anonymous hello June 24, 2007 6:55 AM

this group looks like it might be quietening down but i hope not. im rae from uk. 45 years old, 3kids and a definate diva (almost).

My claim to almost divahood -

couple of years ago i when i could afford to drive i had a lovely ford ka. on its bumper my sticker said 'i am a goddess'. one day i was driving in a town i hadnt been to for several years and there was a new one way system that got me confused so i accidently cut someone up. we stopped at the lights and he got out. fearing road rage, i was amused when he said ' you may be a goddess, but you' re a lousy driver!'

I've Been AWOL November 06, 2005 10:56 PM

Hi all and especially Welcome to our new Divas

Sorry bout being AWOL my puter was in the shop for almost a month! The power supply was shot and they had trouble finding another one cause my puter is almost 5 years old!! Guess it's time to save up for a new puter...

With the American Thanksgiving coming up (I'm a Canuck so celebrated mine in October while my puter was sick) I'd love to hear any of your Almost Moments from your Thanksgivings. I do have a sort of Almost Moment...more of a cute one that was actually my daughter's, but I'll share it anyway.

My DD was about 10 months old at her first Thanksgiving. Naturally first time Grandpa was invited to join us and he proudly sat beside his granddaughter's high chair. My father was relating the usual stories of MY Thanksgivings as a child and we really weren't paying much attention to my daughter strapped into her high chair. Lea was gazing at Grandpa while she was displaying an obvious dislike to her divided plate of yummy creamed peas, creamed turkey, and creamed sweet potatoes by dipping fingers into her food and flinging it at Mommy! After a splat of whatever it was, fell on my plate, I turned to see her gazing at my Dad as she picked up pieces of food off HIS plate and daintily put them into her own toothless mouth. Dad seemed oblivous as he continued to regale us with stories. Lea kept picking and eating, all the while giggling away at her own antics. When I got up to grab the camera, somehow she managed to get Grandpa's attention and the two of them shared a couple giggles as she continued to eat off his plate only. I did manage to get a couple pictures before Lea promptly fell asleep in her high chair, a piece of Dad's turkey still clenched in her little fist! Talk about Kodak Moments! Ahhhh, she definitely is her mother's daughter - as my father delighted in saying before he was off with yet another tale of my childhood special occasions!

Amelia put a smile on my face, and that kind of made me wanna be apart of this group. I like the topic, we almost Divas need to have a group too...LOL..Thank you for this Group, i know i will enjoy it very much.

Nice too meet you all..

YAY! What a great group!

My almost diva moment happened on one of my first dates with my current boyfriend of 2.5 years. We drove up to the top of one of the local lookouts/big hills, and I was wearing my favorite sandals- big chunky sketchers that were excellent all-terrain shoes, and also very cute. Well, my boyfriend expressed some concern over my choice of footwear, to which I explained that these sandals had successfully seen worse and I can handle it thankyouverymuch. So not 10 minutes later, I was following him up a mossy rock, and slipped right when he turned around to say something. It wasn't one of those "whoops, lost my footing" kind of slips, it was a "where'd you go" kind of slip- there one minute gone the next. Totally embarrassing. I couldn't stop laughing for half an hour. We still laugh about it now. Needless to say, those sandals have been retired

Hello! July 27, 2005 6:03 AM

I am French, I come from Paris, 24 years. old a student at the paris national conservatory. Married, expecting a child. 1st month only.

When I was young I lived in the country and was a country girl - blonde hair, little nose, freckles, greenish eyes, flowers in my hair, big red lips. Bit like in the photo but younger.

Well, now I live in Paris i prefer designer, Moschino and D&G are my favourites. shop at Lafayette galeries mostly. My bathroom has oceans of creams, make ups lotions - but I still go for a more or less natural look.

Thats my two cents

Helllooooo Everyone! July 08, 2005 3:25 PM

I didn't get an invitation....I sought you out all by my big girl self!  This group looks like it would be such fun.  Sooooo here I am!

I can share some stories with you.  Let's see which one shall I start with.  Well, being a country girl with a southern accent I secured a job in California with a Savings & Loan Co.  A part of my job was to call out loudly over an intercom system the names of certain towns.  Not being very experienced in the business world yet one of the first towns I had to call out was BLACK BUTTE.  Of course, what did I yell over the intercom system but ....BLACK BUTT!!

Greetings to All "Divas" out there... June 20, 2005 8:35 AM

I am honored to be in your company.  I have an "almost Diva" story to tell.  When I was in my teens I had taken a new job at a bank.  I was about as green as grass in the social graces department.  But, I decided to attend a party that the bank had scheduled at an area upscale restaurant.  Everyone was wearing long dresses.  It was the first time I had ever worn a gown.  I spent all day getting ready and was so careful protecting my dress on the trip there.  I felt so sophisticated, and adult as I grouped with some of the ladies in my department and sipped my coctail.  Well, some of us decided to take a walk to the ladies room.  We had to walk past a group of the bank's "most elligibles", and there were 3 steps going up to the landing.  I was sharing a smile with one of my friends as I took the first step up, and with the second step my neck jerked forward.  With the 3rd step I was pasted to the floor, as I had neglected to lift the hem of my skirt and my shoes took a little more fabric with each step.  I didn't wait for any assistance.  I was on my feet and in the bathroom before my drink even spilled.  My face didn't stop burning red for days!!!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

WoooHooo May 19, 2005 2:32 AM

Ohhh yes, I do so agree with Arie! Welcome everyone, it's great to see you here!

As Arie said, we can be ourselves here; laugh, cry and advise and support each other thru whatever trials and tribulations we may have...or have had...that make us Almost A Diva!

In fact, I was trying to think of one of my Almost Moments that might serve as an example for something...and one came to mind...so here is my example of How an Almost Diva Meets the Boss....

I was in my mid-20s at the time, and had just started a job as a receptionist for an internation company. Everyone was great helping me get settled in and learning the ropes. I'm pretty short (only 4 foot 11 inches) so even my desk and area had been set up to reflect this little "problem" of height. Because my legs don't touch the floor if sitting properly in a chair, my new chair was lowered as far as it could go, and yet still allow me to appear at least from the boobs up over the desk so that I could greet incoming guests and not look like one of the staff's kids! LOL I was even lucky enough to get one of those hard plastic floor covers that the chairs can roll on making it easier to move from one spot to another in my area.
Of course, I was thrilled with this job and just loved it. Made sure I dressed very well each day, in order to impress those coming in the door as I was aware that I was the one that would give an initial impression of what this company was all about and if I didn't come across as professional and yet warm and friendly, well the boss wasnt going to be impressed himself too much now would he?
So there I was....my 3rd week I think, on the job. A wonderful looking gentleman entered the lobby and walked up to my "window" and asked for my boss. This man was GORGEOUS!!! And I got a tad flustered and couldn't even remember my boss's name for a moment, as I told the fellow that Mr. R. wasn't in this week and would I be able to give him a message upon his return. The gentleman started to laugh and shook his head a bit and started to walk thru the employees door. I went to dash to stop him (as was my job to do) and was saying as I moved..."I'm sorry sir, but you are not allowed in here"....and I'm trying to get at least my toes to touch the floor so that I could push myself away from my desk and turn my chair in order to get up and usher the gentleman back out the door.
Welllllllll........I managed to push with my toes alright....and the chair started to turn as I had wanted it to, and one caster caught the edge of the plastic floor cover and over I went!!! The chair flipped backwards, me STILL SEATED PROPERLY for some reason, and I landed sitting prim and proper in the chair as if it was upright, with the entire skirt flipped up over my head!!
Ever notice how fast news goes thru an office when someone is having an Almost Moment???? As I managed to push my skirt back down reasonably covering everything I had again, I looked up to see at least a half dozen people staring over me, laughing their hearts out, and this gorgeous gentleman trying to help me stand up and he's laughing too...and saying...."It's okay Nancy, I'M MR. R....and was trying to tease you....Welcome to the company!"

I was with that company for about 3 years (never should have left I suppose but...) and that welcome incident was NEVER forgotten! Mr. R. said he might start to use that example in an Orientation Meeting for new employees on how we're just a big family in this company so no one needs to try impress anyone, etc.

So there you have it - another of my many Almost Moments!!

DON'T try to impress your bosses, or anyone actually.... well at least don't try from a sitting position on a secretary chair with casters!

Until the Next Time...

~ Nancy

anonymous Hello.... May 18, 2005 6:25 AM

Another newbie here! Thanks to Arie for the invite!

My almost moment....I was out with a bunch of girlfriends and we were walking on one of the hottest days last year. Were were walking downtown on the waterfront...along the tall walls around the harbour, heel toe, heel toe, heel - SLIP! I took a lovely little dive into the harbour, in my pale yellow sundress, over my head and I dont know how to swim. So a few guys who witnessed it all dove in after me, and thankfully got me out. One of my girlfriends gave me her jacket/windbreaker. I haven't walked on those walls since I fell in.

P.S. The Harbour in my city....doesn't smell the best.

Love and Happiness,

Raven B.

Hello May 18, 2005 5:50 AM

Hi Everyone! Thanks for the invite, Arie ... great group idea, Nancy!

I do have an "almost" moment to share ... much to my embarrassment!

My family and I were traveling home from a vacation in the mountains. We had been in the car for some time, so we stopped at a rest area to stretch and use the facilities. We were walking up the sidewalk, right along the curb, and I was bringing up the rear. My two year old was in front of me and nearly tripped on the curb. Can you guess where this is leading? I said, "watch your step, sweetie" then promptly tripped on the curb, busting my rear and scraping both knees and one hand! Of course, I explained to my husband, for the sake of onlookers, that I was fine. "I meant to do that, so Quinn could see how much it hurts!" YIKES!  The pain from my rosey cheeks was far worse than that of my scraped knees.

Namaste, Angela

Well I'm glad to be here, I hope this group does well! Oh no! Poor Myrtle. Gosh, if my mom were computer literate I would send her over here-- I'm sure she'd just get such a kick out of this kind of group! It's so her! LoL, I feel like I have Almost Moments every day. Walking down the street doing some errands for work, thinking to myself, I feel good, I look good, what a great day. I'm wearing a wraparound skirt, and the wind is kicking up, and it's kicking my skirt up a little too high! We're downtown, and there are people everywhere. I had to walk around and hold my skirt down with one hand so I wouldn't be pulling a Marilyn!!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Almost Divas are Ageless May 07, 2005 3:00 AM

Arie....You are more than welcome to be here with all of us.
Age doesnt have anything to do with being Almost A Diva....I think one of my first Almost Moments was when I was in Grade 3!!
It was Show and Tell Day (do they still have that in schools today?? LOL) and I had brought in my pet turle.  It was just a little thing in the green plastic bowl that had the plastic palm trees so that the turtle could think it was on some exotic island, I suppose.
Anyway, for some reason, I was the only one that brought in anything for Show and Tell that week, and I was sooo excited to show off Myrtle the Turtle (hey, I was only in Grade 3...it was still a few years before my vivid imagination kicked in!!).  There I was proudly holding up my turtle for all the class to see....except that at some point during the day Myrtle had, shall we say...gone to that Exotic Island in Turtle Heaven.  I was embarrassed and cried in front of the whole class.  My teacher was nice tho and even gave me (and Myrtle) a ride home!
My mom, brother and I had a "burial at sea" for Myrtle and Mom gave me the dubious honour of The Last Flush!
On that note....

Welcome to all of you and I'll check in again later....right now I have to don my June cleaver pearls and heels to do the vacuuming!

Almost something else... May 03, 2005 8:01 AM

Nancy, thanks for the invite. Very interesting angle for a group. Being such a competitive society here, we usually do not become what we thought we could have been. For me, I almost became a journalist, but somehow the Alps and Switzerland lured me to get into hotel management for the past 20 years.... but I think, whatever we do, we must have fun doing it.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Nancy thanks for the invite to your new wonderful group!

I've had so many near-misses and almosts that it's hard to narrow down which ones to write about  My biggest "almost" though was that I almost didn't marry my current husband. Now that would have been a HUGE mistake! He is the best thing that ever happened to me. I will think of some others and fill you in soon. Til then, thanks again!

Love,
Ravyne

I was almost divorced for almost a year....and then I just found out about a month ago...I didn't mail myself the final paper that had to go in the mail...

Now I am more divorced then I was before...
