A great way to go. November 17, 2005 1:37 PM

My friend's mother was recently riding her 23 yr old gelding...she did some very advanced dressage on him and then jumped a few jumps. It was a lovely late summer day. After a bit of canter she came to a halt next to her daughter, husband and some friends who were watching. She leaned forward with her arms round his neck as if to pat the horse for being so good. She stayed in that position a little while longer that people expected, and her husband became a little concerned and asked how she was, they heard a little gurgle. She had died without even falling off of her faithful gelding, he'd carried her to the very end. She was 82 years old and rode and did her horse everyday, her motto was 'Use it or lose it'. What an inspiration!  [ send green star]

Wendy--what you shared of your friend's mother passing is amazing. Yes, it may seem sad to some, but I also see the beauty in the moment. I am truly sorry for the loss of what sounds like an incredible woman and at the same time I feel she was with her precious equine friend for her final ride in this world at that very moment for a reason. Thank you for sharing this--I am constantly in awe of animals and the bonds we share with them. If I had a choice in the matter when my time comes--I'd want to be surrounded by my sweet, furry ones, all those I love dearly and to hold them all in my arms for one last moment. I agree...what a way to go. Hugs - Jules  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I do think it was a wonderful way to go Spiritually. 'Her feet never touched the ground', and her daughter who was present started giving her Reiki as soon as they realised, although she had already gone, and I believe the Reiki would have helped with her 'transition'. The lady herself had written books on horses and spent much of her life dedicated to them, and her attitude was hugely positive, which I think is a key to overcoming Karmic needs and all that sort of stuff...all in all the lady was a veritable Goddess in her approach to life and I'm sure her energy was good enough to take her to a high place! From the horse point of view, Horses are power, and how lovely for her to have been carried to her last moments on her faithful and trusty steed...who happened also to be an advanced dressage horse, trained by her. Her last dressage movement in this life was Piaffe, magnificent.  [ send green star]
