Protect the Arctic Refuge!
This week the Senate will vote on a "budget reconciliation" bill that, among other things, would authorize oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. If it passes, this pivotal bill would decide the fate of one of America’s national treasures. Take Action!
Drilling in the Arctic would be a drop in the bucket when it comes to our dangerous dependence on imported oil —and it won’t help consumers who are struggling with the high cost energy. According to the Energy Department itself, oil from the Arctic would only save us a penny per gallon at the pump—and not until twenty years from now.
Drilling would irreversibly harm one of America’s last great wild places. It would threaten polar bears, grizzlies, musk oxen and caribou that live in the Refuge. It would also jeopardize the Gwich’in, the native people who depend on the Refuge and its wildlife for their way of life.
Act now to protect the Arctic!
