Beano alternative? November 14, 2007 9:18 AM

Does anyone know of any natural alternatives to Beano?

Yep! :-) November 14, 2007 9:35 AM

For those of you who may be unaware of this, Beano isn't vegan. This from Beano in response to the veg question: "The gelatin that is used in Beano is derived from fish and is used as a processing aid/enzyme stabilizer. Other than the gelatin, there are no other animal derivatives in the Beano product."
Oh, well, other than THAT!

But Bean-Zyme is vegan.

And here are some tips for flatulence-free bean cooking...

BeNo--You Know You Need It!!

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    1 cup water
    1/8 teaspoon crushed mint
    1/8 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Mix the above ingredients together.  Gulp it down just before your meal--or during.
This isn't my recipe. I've never tried it. I got it from vegweb.

You're welcome for the tip ("fish goo!" , good description!), Anandi ~ thank you for bringing up this topic!

And thanks for the Bean-No recipe, Amalthea! If anyone gives it a try, please give us a review!
