Rain Rot October 18, 2012 5:49 PM

With wet weather coming on for most of us (fall and winter rain and snow) keep close track of your animals for rain rot! It starts as little bumps on withers , backs and rumps. It's actually caused by a bacteria. When you find it , it's easy to treat. I personally use hydrogen peroxide. Wipe it on real wet all over exposed areas a couple times a day and clean them good. Any thing thats anti-bacterial will work. Things like Iodine work well also. Baths with surgical soap are good if it isn't real cold. If caught early there will be no coat loss. Otherwise you end up with bald spots for a good piece of time.
