Hi Becky! Thanks for the welcome! I'm from the southeast corner of Saskatchewan. My hubby & I own a trucking business, we haul livestock & grain all over Canada and the U.S. so we have trucks going to Ontario, Quebec, etc. all the time. The hubby drives also, thank God! It's nice to have peace & quiet, just me and our sons!  [ send green star]

Hiya Della! December 17, 2006 7:28 PM

Greetings, Della!  Welcome to one of the friendliest, informative boards on the 'net!  I'm Becky - from Waterloo, Ontario - and I own a 12-year-old Q-Horse (Phoenix) and a 7-year-old Percheron (Onyx).  Whereabouts in Canada are you?  [ send green star]

 December 17, 2006 2:56 PM

A couple of months ago, at the Virginian State Fair, I was showing three palomino mares in the AQHA halter classes. It was a covered pen & the weather was awful- we were getting torrential rains from some Atlantic storm. The rain was deafening on that metal roof, they were doing a tractor pull in the next arena over &, right where we were supposed to set up the horses, there was a mini-waterfall where the roof gutter had given up the ghost. In other words, it got western!

Those mares just took one look at everything & their expression was totally, "Excuse me! I don't think so!!!"

Needless to say, they didn't want to square up & stand like statues. I showed the yearling & then the two year old. By the time I got to the four year old, I was about played out. I looked at the judges who were waiting [again] for me to set up my horse & said [keeping in mind that ALL three mares were palominos], "I'm so sorry for making you wait... We're having a very blonde day!"

The judges cracked up laughing, told me to take as much time as I needed &, in the end, they placed the four year old Grand Champion.

Thanx Barb! And hey, I've never heard of us blondes called Palominos....I like that!! Now I can say I had a Palomino moment!!  [ send green star]

 December 17, 2006 5:18 AM

Hey, Della!

Glad to see you here & to Q-Horse!

Please make yourself at home & feel free to jump into the conversation. Oh, & don't worry about the "blonde" moment. We have a lot of palominos, here, so I'm used to it. [My mother was blonde so I don't think I'm really brunette... more like a "chocolate" palomino! ]

Thank you so much, Krista.. October 06, 2006 6:45 AM

I appreciate your help.

No issue is cut and dry, but.....when it comes to horses suffering the terror and brutality of slaughter, I simply cannot accept that slaughter is the answer and so I have been working very hard on this.

I would not want to disrupt or cause trouble in the group and that's why I asked.

If I can convince one person that is pro-slaughter to change their mind, it will be worth my efforts.

Thank you very much.

Marjorie,

As we have learned, no topic is cut and dried, and even though I am against it as well and have worked hard to end that as well as Premarin Farms, people on the other side of the issue have some very valid points to contribute..so our discussions are informative.

To start the topic, just click at the bottom of the page "New topic" and it will bring up a blank screen that looks just like your response box. type in the subject (whatever you want it to be called. "S1915 Updates" works fine) and then type what you would like that thread to be for: "posting of updates to the bill, who is voting on it now, what we can do to help, blah blah blah) Then submit. It will appear in the list of topics and one of the hosts (whoever is online first) will pin it to the discussion board so it never archives or gets lost among the topics.

Thanks for your passion and hard work on behalf of the horses.

Krista

Hi Barb! October 05, 2006 6:50 PM

Thank you so much! I will admit that I'm surprised that some are against it, espcially on this site. I didn't expect that; perhaps I am naive.  I think watching any of the videos might cure that:  www.habitatforhorses.org

Shall I mail you with the topic? How do we do this.

And, thanks again, Barb.

Hi Marjorie! to Q-Horse!

While we have some members with varying opinions on the slaughter issue, we've agreed to disagree.  I'd say the majority [myself included] would like to see an end to it. Sure, we'd very much like to know of any S.1915 updates. If you'd like, start a new thread on the topic. Either myself or one of the other hosts will be happy to red pin it!

Hi, I'm a new member... October 05, 2006 6:18 PM

I don't own a horse, but I've been a rider since i was about 12 years old.

I'm very involved in trying to get S. 1915 passed and wonder if you guys have been working towards this too.

i'd like to keep you all updated, if this is the correct forum for that.

Thanks,

Marjorie

Welcome new members!

Sorry to be late in doing so, I've got my hands full at the ranch with a collection of new critters along with the old timers all needing attention and exercise. Just beginning the process of introducing one of the new mares to working cattle and will eventually progress to roping, she's a stout QH that had been running barrels with a hackamore. Tried her tonight with a snaffle and introduced her to the tiedown not knowing if she'd seen one before, went pretty well, no issues and damn, has this girl got a handle on her speed and spinning on a dime!

Again, welcome to the group

Hey, Ally, welcome to Q-Horse! I've know some pretty nice Quarabs, they can be really fun horses! Ya know, it's odd that you bring them up. I just had a woman stop by the barn today. She'll be bringing her Pinto Quarab gelding here for training. Too, I've recently had some Arabian mare owners express an interest in breeding to my colt, Bailey, in a few years. Might be a nice cross!

Please make yourself at home, Ally. We have some good people on this group & I think you'll enjoy it.

Hi, I'm Ally. It's been years since I've had a horse, but growing up I had a QH/Arab gelding that I practically lived on when I wasn't at school or in bed.  [ send green star]
