The archived threads and non-pinned threads older than 15 days were removed because of their age. When a thread is inactive for months at a time, people forget about the promoted sites. This is an indirect method of encouraging members to bring their promotions forward again. It's not an intended insult.
Ideally, we'd like for members to make one thread, and then use that thread to post their promotions. When a person makes several threads, things can get lost and confusing. If everything is kept to one thread at a time, it's more organized, and it makes it easier for people who are looking in to see what's being promoted.
When a thread becomes longer than about 50 posts, we can close it so the member can open a new thread with "#2" in the title. This really helps keep things organized and uncluttered.
For example, on my thread (Wolf Singer's World), everything I wish to promote is kept to that one thread. It makes more sense, it's easier to follow, and the board doesn't get cluttered. Which leaves more room for other members to post their threads.
I agree, Angel. The archives, in my view, is exceedingly valuable, and especially with this type of group...I just can't imagine why one would delete those? "Archives" does not mean "trash can."
I am going to be leaving this group. But before I do, I wanted to let you know why. I am leaving for 2 reasons.
The first is because of the issue of this thread. I know that you want to keep your group going and keep everyone involved full time with it. I am sure that all of us who are group owners would love just that. But to ask each of us to come to this group to Promote our Websites, just as the name of the group is, but that we have to Promote our Websites every 15 to 30 days to keep it on the site other wise it will get deleted is just totally wrong. We all know that threads get archived after 30 days, and that the group owner and co-host can't do anything about it, that you only have so many threads that you can pin to the group at any one time. So in a group like this, members need to view the archives more often to see other members promotion of their web site unstead of making the member have to come to the group and redo their posting every 15 to 30 days.
The second reasons, is because I do agree that the group owners have every right to place their own rules in their groups as long as those rules do not go against the Care2 Terms of Service or the Code of Coduct. Your thread talking about the photos being posted on the group from other web sites, and stating that the Care2 Terms of Service agreement says we are not allowed to do so is totally wrong. No where in the Terms of service does it state that. This is just a rule you want in place, and so be it, but by making it appear to people that this is a Care2 rule is misleading. We have enough problems on this site trying to get people to really abide by the real Care2 Terms of Service and Code of Conduct then to state lies about what it says in order to make up our own rules.
Personally, I feel you have done yourself in by making these new rules for your group, and you will lose more members then gain them, for not many people will want to be a part of a group that they have to come to and re post their own Promotion to their own webSites every 15 to 30 days in order to keep their Promotion of their site on the group. Some and most folks just don't have enough time to deal with such nonsense.
However, while there may not be a specific point in the Terms of Service about hotlinking, hotlinking is illegal, and it does steal bandwidth from the sites people post from. Having said that, however, perhaps clarification about that is in order.
If I go to a website and highlight, copy, and then paste the graphics and text into a post here, that is hotlinking. To prevent hotlinking, the graphic has to be saved to the hard drive and then uploaded to an image server like Photobucket, or our Care2 albums. Then, if a direct link to the website is wanted on the graphic, one can just highlight the graphic and then use the "link" button to insert the link.
Now, as for the threads, archives, and etc., if we could all use one thread to post our sites in, that would really help prevent clutter caused by multiple threads. It would also mean threads wouldn't get stuck in the archives. It's very easy to just change the settings so that threads don't archive.
As for the cleanup issue, well, Sandy does this every few months; I am merely doing what she does.
The rules, such as they are, are really not extensive, although it probably seems like they are. I wanted to be as clear as possible, and sometimes, I get a bit too wordy in my effort to do that. I apologize if this has been the case, and I'll try harder to use less words.
There were posts that were over 300 days old. They were in the archives. I'm sorry to see you leave, Angel, and of course, I wish you the very best in all your endeavors.
Just found out that my post abt my pretty active website www.seoster.com has been deleted as well... so I will try finding some other place to promote this now..
