Petition against Domestic Violence September 23, 2004 10:15 AM

I thought the members here might be interested in this: "Petition to strengthen laws toward preventing and protecting against Domestic Violence" http://www.PetitionOnline.com/dv2001/ You can email the authors at ssisters@warwick.net and I also sent them an email about this group, hoping that all of you could help each other. Many blessings, Sandra  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

...though I am not a survivor of Domestic Violence myself, I am a counselor and have my Master's degree in Marriage & Family Therapy, and I have had training in as well as clients who were survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hello September 23, 2004 11:13 AM

I also am a survivor and myself I teach Aids To Victims Of Violence. I get so angry at the knowledge the men we seemed to have relied on, the cops. They always have viewed this as the womans fault. And if "she didnt like it shed leave", and that is not how it is. The roots to this is much deeper. They dont seem to realize that alot of it is more emotional control rather than physical abuse. Alot of them never understood me when I would be able to say, "Id rather get hit, than hear the words I do", beging that verbal words stick to me alot more, because adventally brusises would heal, but my inside wouldnt. I wish the laws were more strick in the state of New York than they are. My ex has been in jail over 5 times in 7 years all because of this. Little jail bids such as 60 days, then released to come right back to me. And with orders of protections, that never helped either, I would get told by him after he attacked me, if I called the cops "I also would get into trouble, because he was there", even though he broke in, and who are you more ampt to believe?...The cops who dont help you...or the man whom always gets his way, and finds a way back?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
