Betty, two commetns for you- and the croud
7 years ago
Very impressed with all of your work. I saw a note about your grand swuare sweater which you wished fitted you better. I used to (30 years ago) make clothes with granny squares ad remember taht no matter how soft the yarn, the nature of a grandsquaew ia taht it gives a firmer structure to the item you make. Worked out fine for a bed spread I made but the skirt and jacket and otehr things one could wear were all less well fitted and now years later I don't think it was me but the nature of granysquares. If you made the squares really miniture, they might be easier to fit. Do like the eyes--made me think of a butterfly--often their colorful wings have built in eyes too. Like the dog sweater. For one of my puppies I used one granny square and just crocheted a sort of collar band at the top of the corner and made a strap to go under the stomach and fasten with a button. The puppy was smaller than myhand and the square I had made to be a potholder. One point of the square had the collar that went over his head and the other oint was over his back end. The belt went under his tummy. He was put into this square jacket and got to try his first snow 25 years ago. Holly T

Just wanted to share with you all the Christmas gift I made for my mother-in-law. It's a sweater vest. She told me that she tried it on and it fits wonderfully. She loves it. I haven't seen her wear it yet, but I don't see her all that often.

The picture is not all that great. It looks much better in real life. The ladies at work all loved it too. They are all amazed at the things I make. Makes me feel good when they tell me that.

Ya know Dolores, I didn't notice that before. That's kinda funny. I see what you mean.

Thanks Deborah. The granny squares at the top on the front are considered half squares. They are triangle shaped, so when I did my finishing edges it gave it a vee shape. I like the way it turned out, I just wish it fit me a little better.

Betty, I had to smile when I saw the picture of the sweater.  The top squares at the neckline reminded me of eyes in that small picture!   It's cool though!

Cardigan Sweater

Here's the sweater I've been working on since the summer. I finally finished it a few days ago. It fits kinda big, but it's very warm. I still want to make a few alterations to it to keep it from falling off my shoulders when I wear it. If I attempt this again, I think I'll make the granny squares smaller so that the whole sweater will be smaller. I guess it's a one size fits most pattern.

Beaded Jewelry

I also made a few bracelets and a pair of earrings for Christmas gifts.

When I finish my next project, I'll get that up here too. It should be done soon, I need it for Christmas. Another sweater, but a simpler one.

The problem is you have to have the image on line. You can't post pics from your hard drive. Load them on a free site or in your c2 photo pages and then you can post the pic here using that on line address [URL].

I believe photos here have to be jpg.  I find that photobucket will sometimes change it to that.  Also Picturetrail will make everything jpg too.  On it you can crop/cut, etc.  I have profiles on both of these site and they are free to use.

Hi Sue,
Thank you so much. I chose the color to go with a black broomstick skirt that has a flower print on it in the same purple. The dress sounds really nice. If you ever get a pic of it I'd love to see it. I'm sure you look great in it.  I know that feeling about the sizing. It seems even when you check gage it doesn't seem like everyone is working on the same size scale. That's one reason I had to do this sweater again. It was just way to big following the instructions for my usual size.
That's lovely Rabbit.  The neck line is to die for!  And the colour... Well lets just say, if you ever get bored of it.... lol
I have just finished a vintage pattern crochet dress.  Wish I could post a picture, but I don't have a camera that will talk to my computer.
The dress caused lots of problems because what I think of as a size 12 was not what the pattern thought!  There was lots of frogging (and cursing) I can tell you to get the dress downsized enough for me to wear it! lol  It would seem that dress sizes have changed over the last 50 odd years! lol

This is the 2nd large Eagle I have made.  The other was for my brother, an eagle landing on a tree limb.  I find that the wings of the eagles are the hardest.  B/c of so many browns.  My brothers eagle's wings I had to rip it out 2x.  Right now my project is a quilt on a fence w/a hat on the ground.  Titled "Garder of Eden"  This is for some friends that will be married 65 yrs.

I'm new here, but when I saw this thread I had to show off a little. I've been doing stitching of one sort or another since I was 10, including crewel, crochet, cross-stitch, blah blah! These are my latest projects. (Well the one in the middle actually was one of my very first, but I finally got a picture of it.) I'm working on making some culottes to go with the halter top. Girl Bear

I finished this teddy bear a couple of days ago. It's for a one year old, so I didn't put anything on it that could come loose and be a choking hazard. I'm hoping to get it mailed out later this week.

I used the same pattern that I used to make the bears for my sons, except I made the girl version. The website forgot to give an explanation of how to make the skirt, so I just made my own design.

What I did to make the skirt was. On the ridge around the waist, I single crocheted around. Next row *single crochet in next three single crochet two single crochet in next single crochet. repeat from * around. Third row three single crochet in each single crochet around.

I hope that wasn't to confusing. I'm not used to trying to write out directions.

My New Hat :-)

I made my self a badly needed sun hat. I just love it. I have lupus, and the Drs tell me it's important that I ware a hat every day, especially during the summer. The brim is supposed to be at least 5" I have such a hard time finding one I actually like. I really like this one! I'm so excited. I hate having to ware a hat I feel like I look stupid in. This one actually looks cute on me. It's a bit floppier than I like, but a little bit of starch should fix that. Here's a picture of the hat I made.and the pattern I used.

octopus pattern

I checked out that octopus pattern. Your's looks better. I didn't like that pink one. I'll have to keep that somewhere for future reference.

When it comes to making something bigger, like a sweater, you just have to remember that if it doesn't work out, or if it doesn't fit right, you can either donate it or take it apart and start over. That's one of the things I like about crochet. You can take it apart and use the yarn for another project. When I sew, if I don't like how it turns out I usually have to toss it. That's a terrible waste of fabric. (But I don't often have that problem.)

I thought the colors in your sweater were so pretty, bright and cheerful. I would be proud of it to if I had made it. I haven't made any type of clothing for my self yet except for socks. I'm a bit of a chicken when it comes to making anything very large. I need to get over that though.

I used this pattern for the octopusif your interested.

GiftsCloth Pads

I finally got around to taking pictures of the projects I've been working on. The first picture is of the gifts I made for the friend with the baby. while my son was sick, I didn't really have time to crochet, and right now my arthritis is bothering me. I decided not to make anything for the daddy. Instead I bought a small figurine and I'm including a card saying it's a good daddy trophy. I have to get the package mailed out today or tomorrow b/c the baby is about to out grow what I made for him. My husband said he would like a new hat though, so I'm going to make the hat pattern for  him.

The second picture is of the cloth pads I made for my daughter. (I made 12) They were a gift to celebrate her having her first cycle. I let her pick the flannel (she chose Siamese cats, b/c that's the type of cat we have) and she just loves them. She said her friends all think there cool and want some to. LOL

You should be able to click on the pictures to make them bigger.

Hey all, Happy Holidays!!  I have a couple more pictures of some gifts that I made this past holiday.

wrap

hat + scarf

The wrap ended up a bit longer than I anticipated, but she seemed to love it any way.

The hat and scarf are made out of fleece. The crocheting part was the easy part. I had to cut the fleece into one long strip to make it like yarn. I don't recommend this project unless you have alot of time and patience. It was a big hit though. Everybody loved it.

The poncho was made with a trellis stitch. It has an open weave look to it, although since the yarn is so fuzzy you can't really see it. The wrap was just rows of double crochets. It has seven different yarns in it. I'm glad you like them.

Who said I was normal!!

They did take a long time to do.  When I first started stitching I started on small projects. I thought my mom was crazy for doing it and she said just try it! I believe I did a christmas ornament for the first project.  Now my daughter, who was 11 when she started, is cross stitching too. Her first project was a christmas ornament too, which hangs on my tree every year.  She is 17 now, and has done a stitch I have never done, called couching. Its kinda like outlining or backstiching, but instead going around the object, the lines go through it. EX: lines on a flower vase for decoration.  I would post a picture but she gave it as a gift to her girlfriend, who LOVED it.

Take care and come back soon. When you finish your poncho come back and tell us about it or post a pic!
