anonymous Hiya! June 13, 2005 11:55 AM

My name's Stacy, I joined this group because I enjoy learning about religions... all of them.  I myself do not claim one religion but I will say that I lean more towards Buddhism than any other one.  I've studied Buddhism since I was 14 years old and have read and learned about other religions since then too.  I can't wait to talk to everyone here!!!!  (I'm sure this group will grow real quick!!!)  [report anonymous abuse]

Hello and thank you for the invitation June 13, 2005 12:32 PM

My spritual inclinations are based on the belief of Mother Earth, she who nourishes and feeds us.  Father Sky who lights our paths and feeds our souls and a Supreme being who oversees all of us.  I have faith that these are true for ME.

I know people love to debate religious issues and since I do not subscribe to a religion I will more than likely keep my opinions to myself. Hope it's OK just to come and read once in a while.

Hi I'm Lorelei June 13, 2005 1:00 PM

I am Lorelei, real name as well as nick. I belong to a wonderful small church of the Episcopalian persuasion. We are very tolerant, and have mixed racial members, gays and lesbians, and plenty of people who are open to the beliefs in eastern religions, spirituality, wiccans, evangelicals, druids and pagans. I don't personally believe there is one "right" religion for everyone. I prefer a group who puts their money where their mouths are, as in AIDS ministry, prison ministry, being a volunteer in nursing homes and homeless shelters. I shy away from groups who want to evangelize to everyone they meet. I taught in a multicultural setting for 5 years, and it really opened my eyes to the way some Christians beat other people over the head with their beliefs. I am not like that, but if asked, I will readily share my beliefs. The Jesus I believe in would not bomb anybody, or push the plunger on a lethal injection. I am a counselor, and I took a course on the sociology of religion that I found fascinating. I also have a 4 yr ministerial  degree from the University of the South, and I enjoy learning about other cultures and beliefs.  [ send green star]

Intro from Nancy D. June 13, 2005 1:18 PM

My Care2 name is my real name, Nancy M. Davison. I'm a student of the Ageless Wisdom teachings, though I was raised in the Methodist church and was Catholic for twenty years after that. When I discovered the truth (for me) of reincarnation and astrology, I moved beyond religion and into the more esoteric teachings. That's been nearly forty years now. I'm a student with the Arcane School (Alice A. Bailey teachings) and have been for nearly twenty years. I'm a writer by avocation and a gardener because my daughter's one, and I learned so much from her.

I love discussions about religion and spirituality, and find this group to be lively and unafraid to speak their piece. All good signs.

Namaste, ND

Hi June 13, 2005 1:30 PM

My name is Leilani..Lei for short..I was a Christian for over 25 years, but left the church about six years ago..I am very spiritual, and claim no religion or particular belief system..I have learned so much after leaving the church..I learned alot in church too, but felt it was too full of hate and anger toward those who did not believe as they did, I wanted something more and my spirit no longer felt comfortable with me calling myself a Christian. I follow my own path and learn and open myself up to our Creator..who I still call God..whom I still and always will believe in...I have found more peace and joy and freedom and acceptance outside of the confines of religion..I don't tell anyone to follow me or believe the way I do..I feel God is bigger then any religion and can not be put solely in one religion or belief system..I lean a lot toward Native Spirituality, but am not closed to any accepting, forgiving, loving belief..I practice my own spirituality and rituals..honoring God, others, the Earth, and all of Creation..

Thanks for the invite by the way.

Lei

HI!! June 13, 2005 1:36 PM

And thanks for the invite!  My name is real - Johanna, although many of you are probably pronoucing it wrong in your heads - it's YOhanna - my Mom is dutch and being an American, I tell her it's the gift that keeps on giving, as I have to explain the pronunciation at least once a day : )   Weed out the telemarketers though!!  My spiritual inclination however, would be much harder to pin down.  I'm not 100% sure there is a name for it - I believe in God, Jesus, Buddha, Mother Earth, re-incarnation (from personal experience) the Great Spirit, all of them.  The Goddess and Gods, I think they are all viable and believable and have the unpopular (here in the bible belt anyways) belief that we are all right, regardless of what we believe, we are just on different paths.  Pet peeves are the people who keep slipping religious doctrine in my car telling me that I'm going to be burning in hell for eternity because hell is the one thing I don't believe in!!  I llok forward to being part of this group - thanks again Shewolf!!!  [ send green star]

Hi, Shewolf, I skipped in here from Religious Tolerance. June 13, 2005 2:16 PM

I'm Rebecca, my real first name.  I have also been known as The Educated Backside and Dungeon Lady.  Explanations are too lengthy.

I am a practising Christian, who no longer goes to the 'buildings.'  I was raised as a Christian by a Christian mother who was also a practising Rosicrusian for a number of years.  I've had friends who are witches, Muslims, Jews, and agnostics.

I try to live my life by the example of Jesus, following the 'narrow path' of love and tolerance.  I have been known to lose my temper on occasion, mostly at seeing injustice, intolerance, or bigotry done to another person.  I try to adhere to my own personal policy of "Keeping my mouth shut, so as not to insert foot into same said mouth."   I never try to convince anyone to follow my path, but if I am asked about it I respond.

Rebecca I.

Hello all

I am Raven. I am a panthiest, a pagan, and a Dianic Witch. I honor the Goddess and follow a women's mystery tradition. I discovered this path about 4 years ago, about that. And could never have been happier!

This seems like a great group. I love discussing and sharing my believes, and learning and talking about others as well!

Thanks for the invite!

Hi there June 13, 2005 3:57 PM

Hi everyone--

My Care2 name is Damien Wynter, and my spiritual inclination is just that... spiritual. If I have to choose a "label," I believe I fit more into Eclectic Paganism. I began as a Christian, baptism... dedicated active church member and all, but I never had the inner feeling to "witness" to others and after an amount of time, started feeling that Christianity was not "right" for me. I do not regret this time, b/c for the time that I was dedicated and things felt "right".... it was great. I met tons of great people and feel it was an important part of my life. When things started to not feel right for me anymore, I dropped it all together... I had to... it began to tear me apart and left me with tons of unanswered questions.... some of which, I may post here for opinions and explanation. These posts may not appear to be tolerant in nature, by any standard, but they are questions that I feel I need answered so I can file them away in my mind.

I am here because I enjoy debate... it stimulates thought and I enjoy posts that make me think.

I look forward to getting to know each of you... whether we agree or disagree... diversity is the spice of life... so in the words of Emeril... "let's kick it up a notch!"

Damien

Your Care2 Name: Hunterash - Chosen name is Dana.  Pagan name: Hunter Askrdottir

Your spiritual inclination Heathen - Asatru

Number of years own your chosen spiritual path. Since 1994. I was raised Southern Baptist but never felt comfortable and never felt that "saved" feeling that others described. I joined the Marine Corps and explored Catholicsm, enjoying the ritual but again it didn't take.  I discovered paganism: Starhawk, Merlin Stone and became well versed in general paganism and Wicca. I explored several branches in paganism and narrowed my search back to my cultural roots - past the American Indian/Celtic that I knew about. Neither of those worked for me.

I traced the family to where it merged with Viking/Anglo-Saxon settlers with the Celts. The foundation of our name is Norse.  That led to researching the Northern myths and deities. I finally heard the call and found that "sense of coming home." I've been Asatru Heathen since. Forming a kindred shortly after, which is still in existence.

Your reason for being at this group to learn about other spiritualities and to be a source of information about Asatru and Heathenism.

Hi, my name is Mark (no, really, it is) I'm 34 and was raised Methodist. I still claim that, though it's been a long road. However, I'll take my wisdom from anywhere I can get it.... the Qur'an, the Upanisads, the Tao Te Ching, etc. so you could say I'm pretty tolerant. Why am I here? To learn.  [report anonymous abuse]

I have been on my path with Paramahansa Yogananda for 26 years. I a member of Self-Realization Fellowship http://www.yogananda.org/ for a long time now.

A little about my path:

Aims and Ideals
of

As set forth by Paramahansa Yogananda, Founder

Sri Daya Mata, President

To disseminate among the nations a knowledge of definite scientific techniques for attaining direct personal experience of God.

To teach that the purpose of life is the evolution, through self-effort of man's limited mortal consciousness into God Consciousness; and to this end to establish Self-Realization Fellowship temples for God-communion throughout the world, and to encourage the establishment of individual temples of God in the homes and in the hearts of men.

To reveal the complete harmony and basic oneness of original Christianity as taught by Jesus Christ and original Yoga as taught by Bhagavan Krishna; and to show that these principles of truth are the common scientific foundation of all true religions.

To point out the one divine highway to which all paths of true religious beliefs eventually lead: the highway of daily, scientific, devotional meditation on God.

To liberate man from his threefold suffering: physical disease, mental inharmonies, and spiritual ignorance.

To encourage "plain living and high thinking"; and to spread a spirit of brotherhood among all peoples by teaching the eternal basis of their unity: kinship with God.

To demonstrate the superiority of mind over body, of soul over mind.

To overcome evil by good, sorrow by joy, cruelty by kindness, ignorance by wisdom.

To unite science and religion through realization of the unity of their underlying principles.

To advocate cultural and spiritual understanding between East and West, and the exchange of their finest distinctive features.

To serve mankind as one's larger Self.

http://www.yogananda.org/aboutsrf/aims_ideals.html

I believe in many paths to One Truth! I embrace everyone I meet with as much divine love as I can. I enjoy meeting people from all paths and walks of life. We are each unique souls on our individual paths, yet at the same I feel we are all interconnected at a high level of consciousness and Spirit/Love.

I have met so many wonderful teachers throughout my life, like Ram Dass, Krishna Das, Eknath Easwaren, etc etc. I believe we are all one another's teacher each and every day. I love the teachings of Buddhism and other paths!

I am here to meet new friends and learn about other paths! I also host Many Paths to One Truth here on Care.2 groups.

My computer is locking up right now, so I am just going to reply with my message so I do not lose it, I apologize if there are typos!

Peace, love and light to everyone!

Wendy

About Me June 13, 2005 6:18 PM

Lance F is my Care2 and part of my real name, which is Lance Frizzell-Reynolds, see why it's only F? I'm a newly converted Muslim who will not let go of his liberal ideas and is not hiding the fact that he is gay, nor do I believe I am alone! Actually I KNOW I am NOT alone because there are many groups out there in the real world for gay muslims. I've only been a muslim revert for about 4 months now but it has been in the works since over a year a go when I started studying Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic in school. I have been in search of a religion for years and now I know I have found my home. I joined this group because because I like to discuss and debate religion, not to mention I LOVE to argue about the translation and interpretation of sacred texts. I'm a Sociology major with a minor in Middle Eastern Studies and Double in Spanish, therefore I LOVE to discuss all things having to do with society in general. (e.g. religion, theology, spirituality, politics, ethnic groups, and so on.)  [ send green star]

Hello… My name is Dave; my full name is David LeFort. I am a Solitary Pagan and have practiced the old religion for almost 20 years. I am a clairvoyant and a medium. I have been reading professionally for almost as long as I have been a practicing Pagan. I also belong to the Modern Spiritualists’ Movement in Toronto. I am an accredited church worker at my home church. I lecture, provide mediumship and work as one of their healers. I also lecture and give mediumship demonstrations to other Spiritualists’ Churches in Southern Ontario. I started going to the Spiritualists’ Church around 1990-91.

The philosophies of the old religion and modern spiritualism sometimes clash, however it also depends on whom you are speaking to about the subject. Both philosophies believe in being responsible for your life and your environment, on the physical and spiritual planes. Both maintain that your thoughts and actions create and these creations are reflected back to you! Both believe in guides and familiars. Growth and progress continue, no life is wasted, no experience is worthless, and no soul is lost. I can function in either environment, I do not consider either philosophy contradictory to the other, I believe that they work in concert.

Truth is truth. However, there are many expressions to truth. I am here to learn, compare and share the truth. I can never know enough. I am a work in progress, and learning about life, love and truth. Learning about other people and their truth can open me to my truth. Thanx, Dave.

anonymous  June 13, 2005 8:34 PM

My name is Dale Husband, and my story is a bit more complicated than most others due to the twists and turns that I have experienced in my life.
In my life, I have tried to follow several different paths, spiritually speaking. I have been:
  1. Birth to age 15: Christian, no church affiliation
  2. Age 15 to age 20: Southern Baptist, conservative and evangelical.
  3. Age 20 to age 27: agnostic, with Unitarian church membership.
  4. Age 27 to age 35: Baha'i.
  5. Age 35 to today (age 36): Agnostic, no church affiliation.
In each case, I was looking for truth and was never satisfied with the imperfections I kept seeing in various religions, yet something kept drawing me to religions in the hopes of finding spiritual love and unity.
Today, I have given up that quest. I see no perfection in any faith, so I take all faiths with not only a grain of salt, but the entire shaker! As a former Christian, I can respect those who are of that faith, while not agreeing with their assumptions. Same for the Baha'is. I just know I don't belong with either of those groups now and must put my trust in something else for truth in this world. What I have chosen is the scientific method. I think whatever science discovers via free inquiry, religious teachings and ideals should conform to, not the other way around. Of course, even scientists are not perfect, but they do not claim to be perfect and critical analysis and inquiry is always encouraged and NO ONE is above this! In religion certain things or instituions are often held to be above criticism, even though they are made by or of humans. I am fearful of such things! My heart and mind are open to most people and their paths, but I will not sell myself out again like I did before.  [report anonymous abuse]

Hello June 13, 2005 9:00 PM

Hi,

I am Deborah, what a wonderful group.  I was raised Christian, Lutheran to be exact.
I have struggled with religion for many years.  Loving Christ but believing that his purpose was more for all of mankind than only Christians.

My husband of 25 years is Moslem, at first I tried to convert him, but realized that if Christianity was not his truth, i would be making him something he is not.

I have since come to respect all relegions and believe with all my heart that all in there own way lead back to God.

Recently I have been learning from a Hindu women in India who has helped me through some very hard times.  I also went to see her Guru who was visiting San Francisco in April and had the chance to listen to his divine sound.  I have been meditating and looking inward for inner peace.

My life has since been transformed from a year ago.

Looking forward to learning and sharing with you all.

Your spiritual inclination: Raised Roman Catholic, dabbled in Wicca for a few years in my early 20's, spent 1 year attending a Native American sweatlodge (their version of church) when I first got sober in 1994, spent another year trying to figure out christianity at some non-denominational church, and have spent the last 5 years or so mainly following buddhism. Not 100% sure what if any religion is the "correct" one, but the closest fit that seems to be all inclusive and accepting of any/all other religions has been buddhism. On another nice note, buddhism is the only major religion of the world that I know of that has never fought in any war(s) over religion which also appeals to me from a non-violence perspective (even though I am prior military). 3. Hello June 16, 2005 8:41 PM

My name is Douglass G. I was raised Roman Catholic but have drifted more toward agnosticism in the past few years because of my feelings about acceptance of homosexuality and the importance of seperation of church and state in America (many Catholic leaders argue that voting for any politician who isn't 100% anti-abortion, including situations of rape, incest, and certain death to the mother). Now on top of all that I'm trying to figure out how to work out my future marriage with my unaffiliated girlfriend. I consider myself very spiritual and compassionate. I am just struggling with organized religion. I like Catholicism; I'm just trying to figure out how to fit into it. (I guess that's part of why I took interest in this group)  [ send green star]

You have an open and questioning mind. This should help you resolve your concerns concerning whether to remain a Catholic or find another path where you can express your spirituality and compassion. No one here can tell you what to do, that has to be your decision. As long as you're honest with yourself you'll make the right one. And you know what? No matter what decision you make, you can always change your mind.. That's one of the pluses about being human, we have the power of choice. In light, Namaste, ND  [ send green star]

Senem's Intro June 17, 2005 3:48 AM

Hi,

I am Senem from Turkey. During my school years, I was given courses mainly on Islam but I have my own type of belief since (?) hmm.. I really don't know.. I didn't get it or learn it from somewhere, it just got shaped up by itself. I believe in morality and humanism which requires not only respect and care for the human race but also for nature and all living creatures. I also think that there is an enormous energy out there which I call God sometimes.

And my reason to join this group is to learn about other beliefs/religions and to be able to debate respectfully about the personal views. I should thank Dale for inviting me and to all hosts to create such a place where everybody's aim is the same; to understand...

  4. Your reason for being at this group I am very respectful of others opinions/views/faith, but I am also very interested in those views whether I concur or not. I believe by being tolerant of another's basic values, one can be a better person. I don't expect nor intend to sway anyone's personal beliefs, they are, after all, personal, but also expect the same in return.  I don expect to be attacked because my views differ and by the same token, I act accordingly. I am interested because I was indoctrinated from an early age and attended Christian [Methodist] church/chapel until I was 16 when I found my own point of view. With so many diverse followings or religions in the world today, there is much to ponder and all of it is very intriguing. If no one likes that, c'est la vie...

I would say ecclectic Pagan with some shamanistic ideology and the longer I live the more similarities I find between my beliefs and Judaism.

I was born to Christian parents, christened and confirmed at the age of 15, but I never felt at home in Christianity. That was the only "trueworthy" religion, all the others were presented as somekind of supersticious mumbo-jumbo, so when I was a teenager I thought I had to be non-religious and an atheist.

Then in the beginning of 90's my sisters bought me "The Witch's Handbook" and I found out that there actually are people out there who seriously call themselves witches and name their faith to be Paganism. In the end of 90's I had found Wicca on the internet, and it felt as if I had come home - finally. After studying Wicca I have noticed, that that's not what and who I am.
I would say that I have spend all my life on my "chosen spiritual path", I just didn't know what it is before 10 years ago

I am here, because C J recommended it. I come here through "2beAWitch", and I noticed one of the hosts there - and I noticed "this is not "religious tolerance matters" but..." - I think that was nicely said.
I am interested in religion, spiritual beliefs and doctrine and debating personal truths, beliefs and spiritual paths - this might be a group for that

Hugs,
Ket

Hello all! :) June 21, 2005 4:49 PM

I'm gru- 22- A natural wonderer of all of life; has a curious and engaged mind, loves to think.

My spiritual inclination is Pantheism with a Taoist kick; I am also very heavily influenced by philosophy.

My reasoning for joining? I love to talk and also hear about other people's spiritual experiences, and I think we can all learn from debate/discussion.

At the risk of over sharing, I have gone through a couple of phases, and will try to summarize them (because I can’t exactly answer the questions otherwise).  I was raised in the Assemblies of God Church (it’s one of the extreme born-again-speaking-in-tongues-every-word-of-the-Bible-is-literally-true), believed what I was taught, and tried to live it.  By the time I was out of high school, it just became intellectually untenable and I quit going or believing (actually couldn’t stop believing that I just couldn’t figure it out and would wind up in Hell).  Because it colored my understanding of all Christianity, I spent the next decade as a cynical agnostic.  The experience of getting married by a knowledgeable and open pastor, as well as my wife’s encouragement to re-consider the universe, has softened me on Christianity, and I now consider myself a Christian, who reserves the possibility that it isn’t necessarily true but it’s the best I can figure out (I hope that doesn’t cause anyone to doubt Christianity’s truth—I’d probably feel that way about any religion after my childhood experiences).  I’m even an elder in our Presbyterian Church, where no one demands that you accept every last word of the Bible as true.

2. Christian (Presbyterian)

3. 5 Presbyterian/ 8 mainstream Protestant of some sort

my salutations June 29, 2005 12:42 AM

to all group Hosts and group Members, my c2c name is rolando and also a member of Religios Tolerance. i give credit to Shewolf for conceptualizing  the nature of this group, it is  appropriate for some that are overly opionated about their own belief, faiths, philosophy and self=intelligence. And for some it is flatform to learn and observe. Debater i am not, but i like to contribute once in a while. It has been almost 30 yrs since i took the path of Vaisnavism and is still struggling to practice and act on it. i find Mental Shopping to attain self-realization and the meaning of life to be a dangerous path than sticking to one even it may take a life time. To be in this Group will give me an opportunity to observe, listen and learn. In quiteness(stillness) and observance IMO is a better flatform to see the truth i seek. Hoping this meet everyone in good health and spirit and please forgive my poor english as it is my second language and forgive me if i have offended anyone in my self expressions. Peace and love!

The time you take
+++++++++++++++++++

The time you take to do it right saves you from spending even
more time correcting it later. The time you take to exercise
and keep in shape saves you from spending even more time
being fatigued and in poor health.

The time you take to understand saves you from spending even
more time being confused and misinformed. The time you take
to care for and connect with others saves you from spending
even more time being lonely and isolated.

The time you take to be patient keeps you from spending even
more time being frustrated. The time you take to learn a new
skill prevents you from spending even more time struggling
to keep up in a fast-moving world.

Take time as it comes, and fill it with the best you have to
give. Making wise use of it now will give you many more
valuable options when more time comes along later.

Instead of rushing quickly to whatever is next, put your
focus and attention on doing your best with what is now.
This is the time when you can truly make a difference, so
make full use of the opportunity you have.

As each moment arrives, take the time to live it fully, to
give it value and purpose. The time you take to give of
yourself to life will bring richness beyond compare.

HI...answers to ?aire.... July 03, 2005 6:21 PM

1. see profile pic for c2 name, my birth name (between Gweniviere, & Jenevive, I'm glad parents settled on that~LOL), friends call me KAT...

2 . am a universalist Quaker (3) have been all my life, although raised in the American Anglican (Episcopal) church....just didn't know it til i attended my 1st meeting for worship at the Albany (NY) Religious Society of Friends(3)some twenty odd years ago.....

2b. glad to put down my exact path here at c2, because here we are listed togher in the 1st Christian category along with Amish and Mennonites...

which makes sense because we are the 3 'traditional peace churches' .....

and Quakers started out as a Christian sect in 17th century England in the 20th century.......

4. two reasons i'm here....

       1. saw this group on a person's profile because              i liked their comment on another board....(how             i get into my favorite groups)

       2. one of the Quakers' early names was 'Seekers             ofTruth', & we believe that there is 'that of God'              in everyone, and universalist quakers believe

that Truth & God & the Light Within

Hello July 12, 2005 10:25 AM

Isn't this silly - I've been posting here for a while, and I never noticed this thread.  Sorry

My CAre2 name is Elizabeth N.  My real name is Elizabeth.

I was born Jewish - very reform.  As time has gone by I have come to respect my heritage more and more, but my beliefs are much more electic.  I would characterize myself as a PantheJew or a PagaJew.  I don't really know enough about Paganism or Pantheism, but I want to learn.  I love debating, and this has proven to be a very intelligent group of people.  I am thoroughly enjoying being here, and I keep learning more everyday.  This has become one of my favorite groups.

hello everyone July 14, 2005 2:36 AM

JesFx, DreamFx

Tough to pin down my spiritual belief system, but I'll give it a try: solitary eclectic? turned off by "group religions," influences from many faiths (even the tongue-speaking christians!) and philosophies (wicca included), but prefer to get my goods personally from the raw source (the divine energy, god) who I believe to be both male and female. I guess I tend to commune most with the female aspect. I also feel drawn to Native American belief systems and other tribal forms of "animism" and "ancestor worship" (though I wouldn't call honoring grandma and asking her for a bit of wisdom and insight worship)

I have felt spiritually connected to the universe since childhood, and I feel like I've been here to grow and learn spiritually for at least a few rounds before.

I found this group surfing profiles and joined because I enjoy having intelligent conversations about spirituality and philosophy.

  1. Your Care2 Name: Kerratuin, Daughter of Danu
  2. Your spiritual inclination Pagan (worship out of doors and loving daughter of the Goddess) mix of Native American Shamanism,  Druidism (relationship to the Earth, Healing and connection and sacredness) Celtic (The Goddess connection is strongest for me as she was worshiped by the Celts as Danu, or Danub, or Anu)
  3. Number of years own your chosen spiritual path. I have walked many spirtual paths, incl. Catholic, & Zen and Tibetan Buddist, but no where have I connected with such love as within the embrace of the enternal mother. The Ladder has been long, but I am home.

Holly, While I've been called many things, I was born, Holly.

I am a mystic, an eclectic pagan-Goddess-worshippin-tree-hugger, and relentless truth-seeker.  I have excellent BS radar, and very little tolerance for arrogance and disrepect.  I'm working on tolerating the overly-sensitive... for I seem to have a dark side too.

Lovely to see so many friends here!

Hello! July 15, 2005 1:53 PM

Your Care2 Name: Aislinn

Your spiritual inclination: I am an eclectic witch.

Number of years on your chosen spiritual path: about 3 years, although before that I knew my path was different than what I had been following. From birth to 5 I had no religious education. From 5-15 I went to a Holiness church, a Baptist church, a Church of God church, and a Seventh Day Adventist church and even went to a SDA school for several years. That whole experience was...interesting. Then I quit going there and didn't follow any religion, but still considered myself Christian for about 10 more years. Then started feeling like I needed to explore why I always felt different than what the people I went to school and church with, and why there were so many religions in the world. Then I did this for a year or 2 and then found the nerve (yes it is frightening when all you've been told is that it is wrong, wrong, wrong) to "research" and look into Wicca and from there went to Witchcraft and realized Woah! That's me!

Your reason for being at this group: I was invited and after checking it out (very interesting topics, btw!) I decided to join. I really enjoy learning about different religions and beliefs and want to understand why others think the way they do. I am fascinated with it all, and I find that I can usually find something that fits well with me and helps me in some way along my own spiritual path.

Anyway, glad to be here and thank you, Shewolf, for the invitation!

the welcome intro name rank and serial number, Hello July 17, 2005 2:16 PM

My real name is glenna, I am on a spiritual path, the exact road I am on is Many, Christian, Taoism, Great Spirit,  Gaia's child, Tantra, Tarot, astrology, Some Be Here Now with Ram Dass, that ought to do it, at least for now, because I'm, sure it will change. I have been searching all my life for the personal truths. I bet you have some. Thanks for being there and for being who you are. I hope to meet some of you as we trudge this journey.

Hi, Glenna, my ears always perk up when I see that another person works with astrology. I've been studying and practicing for 35 years and find it more satisfying than any other study I've ever taken up. What kind of astrology do you practice? Namaste, ND  [ send green star]

Nancy July 17, 2005 7:04 PM

I wish I could  say I was a practicer, I am just interested in all I can learn. I have been reading linda Goodman since I was a teenager, moon signs, and love signs. I have a birthdays stars and numbers book, the only astrology book you will ever need, and a rising sign book.  I am a novis. But I could use all the help I could get. The town I live in is small so small what the liburary had was stolen, not to be replaced. And I live on disability so I don't get to buy many books. I am glad to be here. even though I got a headache reading all that arguement on that other post, it was good then it got in a rut. I will read it again later. My computer is my link to the world, glad to met you.  [ send green star]

Glenna July 17, 2005 8:41 PM

Just observe as much as you can. Learn to draw the charts yourself, it takes a little work but is better than depending on a computer program, because as you do the math and enter the gylphs and so on, you get a sense of the person you're dealing with. Learn the symbols and the qualities of each sign, planet, house and aspect, and HAVE FUN! Ask questions of your friends, pay attention to the same qualities in those who share a Sun sign or an Ascendant, watch what happens to people during the time of the Full Moon and than compare those energies with people who have Sun, Ascendant, Moon, Midheaven or a stellium in those signs. I could go on but don't want to bore people who aren't interested in astrology, and this may not be the right venue for all of this. I do hope you continue your study, because it is so fascinating and can become a useful life tool. Namaste, ND  [ send green star]

  2. Your spiritual inclination: Roman Catholic, but I have tried many earlier in my life
  3.
  4. Number of years own your chosen spiritual path: I was raised Roman Catholic. I practiced until I was 14. Then I became involved in advaita vedanta, nondualism based on the Vedas. I explored many religions during that time. I read about Hinduism, Buddhism, went to a yoga ashram in the US, studied zen, Tao... The Mormons even gave me a full course, but I passed on that. I made a foray back into christianity for a year and a half at a Church of Christ. Even went to Bible College. Long story, but hurt by coldness and hypocracy I found. Back to advaita. After a major crisis in my life, I decided to convert to Judaism. I went through all the clesses, did a legal name change, kept kosher...At the last minute, I became convinced that Jesus was the Messiah, and began attending a Messianic Jewish congregation. Later after I married and we moved, I attended many different protestant churches for years. Then in 1992 I returned to the Catholic Church.

greetings to one and all July 31, 2005 2:18 PM

Hello to all; a brief bio of me

1/ my care2 name is my real name.. rick s. ......the s. being short for sullivan.. i had thought of coming in as BodhiGrendl and decided not to. though i am fond of the symbolism of that name given my youth... will explain it later if anyone wishes to be bored..

2/my spiritual inclination...LOL... that's a loaded one .. to keep it short and easy it would be best to call me a Buddhindu.. i'm a buddhist with strong hindu leanings especially in Advaitism and Vendantism.. so see..LOL.. Buddhindu is much easier...  i had considered Buddhu, but that's a little scary sounding and i'm far from that.. (though the new pope, a few years ago, claimed that we buddhists are the greatest danger to the catholic church in the new millenium since marxism ... so i'm a little dangerous ... LOL.. so be careful or i may meditate at you...grrrrr)

3/ sighhhhhhhh... this one makes me feel old, old,old.. i know all things are impermanent but don't remind me yet... i started on the path at a very tender age, though not fully aware at the time of all the future implications of that moment..... and it's been over 30 years.... well now that i think of it... it'll be 40 years in 2011... sighhhh.... but just the buddhist part ... the other has been 10..

4/ why did i join this site?... well i was surfing the spiritual groups and saw that a number of people who have proven in a very short friendship with me to have very good minds were members..... now let's just hope they didn't come here to get away from me...LOL.. as well odd things have begun to come to a head for me in my practice and i think i may be on the edge of a new direction...... no.. still going to be a Buddhindu... that's like my heart beat... can't get away from that, wouldn't want to.... just new things are afoot for me... and i'm expanding my horizons... oooooo sounds twilight zone don't it...LOL...nahhhh nothing at all like that... just don't have the words for it...yet

thanks for the patience to listen/read my intro... blessings to all

Joined, posted a bit then saw this thread, sorry. September 24, 2005 4:41 AM

  1. Your Care2 Name:  Ruth H
  2. Your spiritual inclination I began as a rural Church of England Anglican.  When the vicar preached a sermon at Harvest Festival saying that the good Lord had done it all, my father said "so that's why the churchwarden's beans are still in the field" so I began to be a teensy bit sceptical.  I have studied Astrology, but all my ephemerides are out of date.  It is a good way to look at identifying your likely path.  I am drawn to Wicca, Druidism and while I am not a current parish member, I am also basically a fundamentalist Christian "Love is kind, envies not, etc, Corinthians "  I respect other people's faith, just so long as it doesn't take the form of "because you are a sinner you must be saved by burning " school of mindlessness.  If I post something that occurs to me, that is just my opinion.  I only dispute people who try to enforce their own view on other people.
  3. Number of years own your chosen spiritual path. I'd say all my life, 60 years.  I haven't given any of it up, it just draws in from other sources.
  4. Your reason for being at this group.  I just thought it looked interesting, informative and developmental.

Sorry again that I didn't realise right off that self introduction was wanted.  I hoped that it would become self evident where I came from and what I was about.

showing off... er, I mean introduction ; ) October 03, 2005 5:46 PM

Your Care2 Name: Simon (Ashworth) Wood... I prefer the name Simon Love - I think I will change my name later - get a new birth certificate, etc....

Your spiritual inclination: hmmm... I prefer to apply the philosophy of Bruce Lee's "jeet kune do" martial art to my life... which means I try anything that I think might work, and that way I see what actually works.... this is much like the Buddha's "Kalama Sutra (Diamond Sutra?)" and "Scientific Method" applied to one's life....

Among other things, I like the Hindu idea of all people doing different things at different stages in their lives, the 4th and final stage being living as an ascetic, hermit, etc. - a bit like this:

but with a state of mind more like this:

Number of years on your chosen spiritual path: I've been on it for between 3 and 29 years, depending on where you count me as starting  ...actually, now that I think about it... I don't see it as a path... I think like Krishnamurti said, the truth is a pathless land which reminds me - have you seen the film, "I Love Huckabees"? If you haven't, I heartily recommend it!

Your reason for being at this group: my reason for being at this group at the moment is have fun showing off... Later? Maybe learn some things...

Please take care and enjoy yourselves, everyone

Peace and friendship,

from Simon

1. Your Care2 Name: Stuart Hamilton 2. Your spiritual inclination: Evangelical Christian (Southern Baptist) 3. Number of years own your chosen spiritual path: 1.6 years. I was raised in a Christian home, but always considered myself "above" my parents' petty "faith". I proclaimed myself an atheist at 13 having looked up the definition of the word to make sure. When I was 20 I took my atheism with me to Salt Lake City, Utah where I supposed to marry my highschool sweetheart. Living alone I dove in to just about any manner of debauchery one may think of, and to this day there are holes in my memory which cause me to shudder. At any rate, I can tell you for sure what didn't happen: getting married. I returned home in late 2002 (having been gone a year) simply because I missed my family, and my primary objective (getting married) was no longer a priority on my radar. I sat in spiritual stasis here in Kentucky for about 2 years until the proverbial brick hit my face. I'll elaborate more on this in another thread. 4. Your reason for being at this group: To engage those around with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Its hard. Its not easy. But its something I'm going to do, along with confronting relativism with the absolute.  [ send green star]

Hi All October 11, 2005 10:02 PM

Hello all...my name is Velvet-Ropes...it is the only name I go by online.

I would say that I'm more of a spiritual person although baptised Roman Chatholic I do not follow this at all.

I would say that I've considered myself more spiritual than anything else since I was in my late teens.

I really like learning about different things, and hearing different beliefs and thoughts and this group look very interesting.

I look forward to getting to know you all better

Hello. I am Terri from Arizona. I joined this group because I am looking for answers at this point in my life and thought it would be good to discuss these things with others.

You will find me in several of the pagan and nature groups. I do not claim a religion by name but I do feel I have a private relationship with my God.

My name is Karen.  I also go by Kasper.
I was raised mostly Catholic.  My mother was Catholic and my father converted to Catholicism before they got married.  My father's mother was Mormon, and my father's father followed the Nez Perce religion.
At this point, I don't follow any buildings.  I believe in a higher power and I try to be the nicest person I can be, but I have a hard time with organized religions, especially ones that say that only members of that religion get to go to heaven, or that my good friend who passed away a couple of years ago is in hell just because of his sexual preference.  (Utter BS by the way, one of the kindest people ever, and if there is a heaven - he's there.)  I had some bad experiences with the Catholic church when I was younger, so I am no longer Catholic, and I've never really adopted anything else as my own.
When I got married this year, we were married in a basic Christian church called the New Testament Church, which is located in a renovated gun shop, but we don't attend regularly.  The pastor is a friend of a friend and a good waiter at the local Denny's, so we got married at his church.
My parents are still Catholic.  My husband was raised Mormon.  My foster son (adoption in progress) belongs to no religion, although his previous foster family forced him to go to the Lighthouse Pentecostal church with them against the wishes of his birth parents.  His birth mother is my sister-in-law.
I guess my belief system is a strange mixture of basic Christianity with some Nez Perce and Common Sense thrown in.
I'm here because I'm interested.  Mostly I'll just read, maybe the occasional post if I'm feeling interesting at that particular moment.  I'm more of a lurker.

Hello every one, my name is Christine, but I fell in love with a spiritual interpretation of my name some months ago…which is ‘Bowlacy’ meaning ‘child of the forest and trees’. I have a love for nature… ‘Trees’ in particular, so the name seemed to fit, and I now use it on all the care2 groups which I belong to.

I love discussions about religion and spirituality and am looking forward to contributing here.

Hello All... December 30, 2005 9:39 AM

Hi everyone...  My name is Robbie...  Add a 'D' and you'll have my Care2 name - yeah - Robbie D...

My spiritual inclination leans towards a very individual pathway, which knowingly, I've been following for the past ten to twelve years...

I joined this group by invitation from one of the more recent members, who I know; would only point me in the direction of that which might provide food for the spirit and the soul...

I'm not a prolific poster myself, by any standards; but I do read most of that placed before me: responding whenever i feel I can add something to the topic under discussion...

I look forward to reading that already posted: later this evening...

In respect and peace...

Robbie D....

  1. Your Care2 Name:  Michael
  2. Your spiritual inclination Catholic
  3. Number of years own your chosen spiritual path.  Since I was a  teen and I quietly chose Catholism on my own while both side of my family battled what religeon I should follow (Born Again or Catholism) I did my own homework and I believe the Holy Spirit guided me. Then as an adult seeing the world (just about every poor and oppressed country you can think of) and all its horrors it then again made me stronger in my faith and now study and religeous history / theology at Notre Dame. Plus being home now and having children with my wife showed me how to be humble and appreciative of life.

Your reason for being at this group: To share and understand the faith of our Lord and to invoke conversation and understanding
