Happy New Year Everyone! And it's time to start a new thread. Here is the link to the old...... http://www.care2.com/c2c/groups/disc.html?gpp=47&pst=1706684 Sugar

Hi Donna, how did 8ball do with his fluid problem? Did you have it drained and did it come back? What about medications? Rosie's wasn't in the lungs, just around her lungs. I saw it on the x-rays. I never heard anything different in her breathing, it was just terrible shallow and fast. Her heart was racing too. She seems absolutely fine this morning. I don't know if they put her to sleep, when they brought her out she was alert. Oh that was a long needle. I was nauseous just thinking about what was happening to her. They sent a sample of the fluid to a lab for testing. I am so very depressed I could cry. How am I going to come up with the money every month for her medicine which will be close to $100? The first two things come to mind is lowering the thermostat from 62 to 60 and stop feeding the deer. And no more goodies from the grocery store. Like Marie Calendar berry pies! I love them. At least my Rosie is okay for now. She ate good this morning and has had her pills. She played with me for a while too. She loves to be chased. She has slept on my chest the last three nights. We will manage, like all good cat lovers I will sacrifice for Rosie.

Its a good start for the new year that Rosie is okay, so I wish all of you a Happy New Year again,

Sugar

Sugar, Your a good Mom to your furkids . We do without for them cause we love them. Glad she's eating and playing. Hugs to you. Enjoy the new year!

Hi Sugar,

I just had to sign in  with name and password. I also see Little Joe again. I had that changed yesterday.

8ball hasn't been to the vets. we have not been able to get her there. I had a cat years ago that had a croupy cough, and yet the vet said he didn't hear what I heard. That was when the  receptionist told me how horrible draining the fluids was. I guess it was that big needle.

Sugar,

There are lots of prescription cards out there that say they can save up to 75% of the cost. Maybe you can look into getting one of them. There for a while every time I turned around someone was giving them out.

Good morning, all! Hope this finds y'all doing well and with things going great. Things are good here. We didn't do anything special last night and are staying in today.... Ray's watching TV while I'm on the computer and I was reading this morning. I will probably go water the plants under the porch later today. We've had rain so I won't have to water the ones that are out in the open.

Sandi, good to see you here. Thanks so much for the New Year greeting/picture.

Angie, so sorry that you've come down with the flu. Hope you get better soon. So, the legal age to drink there is 19? I remember her in Texas when it was 18  then it turned to 19 then it turned to 21. I was legal at 18 for a few months then I was legal again at 19! Once I was 19 the legal age stayed 19 til I turned 21 but just barely. Of course by then I was married to my first husband and had had my son so I wasn't drinking much at all. Sorry to hear that the laptop is aggravating you. Hope your plumbing issues resolve themselves and that your septic system doesn't need any work done to it.

Donna, sorry you lost a long post. Sorry too that you can't get 8ball to the vet. Hope you're able to get him there soon.

Sugar, I did a conversion thing for cc to punces I found on-line. 45 cc is equal to a tiny bit over 1.52 ounces. I think that's quite a bit of fluid around her lungs. I'm glad to hear that she's eating so well. It's great that Chewy found Rosie. You're a good mom to Rosie {and all your other cats} and I know you'll find the money somewhere. Thanks for starting a new thread.

Alice, good to see you here. Thanks so much for the New Year's picture.

Sandrea, good to see you here.

Teri, glad to hear that Michelle is such good friends with her big sister from Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Five years is a long time. Glad you had such a great day.

Take care everyone and have a fantastic day.

Happy New Year's Day!

Hi Darla, I must have heard wrong. I know what an ounce looks like and there was more than an ounce in those 2 tubes. I will ask in Feb. when I go there for her check up and follow up. Tomorrow they will call me with any thing that shows up in her blood work and the fluid itself.

If I hadn't taken Rosie in when I did she would have died soon. Her lungs and heart were being squeezed and unable to work properly. She is full of energy now. She is totally different than Saturday. Rosie is one of those cats that hates being dosed with meds. Every day now she will be getting 3 pills morning and night and every other day her regular prednisolone once a day. It took me 15 minutes this morning to get her dosed. All my cats except Mouse are a very delicate eater. I wish Rosie was a wolfer. She is going to end up hating me.

At least we didn't get much snow this morning. It was very light and I just swept it off the deck. Black and White is still not home. He must have had some party last night.

Here's hoping for the best for the coming year. I expect the worst though.

Happy New Year to everybody. I am having a lazy day today but the kitties are all liking that being lazy with us and getting lots of attention. I figured I would have a lazy day today since I have to go back to work tomorrow.

Darla, we stayed in last night and today too. It sounds like you are having a good day though.

Angie, I hope you feel better soon, my husband had the flu too and he is getting better now I hope I don't get it.

Sugar, I am so happy to hear that Rosie is doing better. It's great that you knew that something wasn't right and you were able to get her looked at right away. That is so cute that Chewy knew where she was hiding.

Donna, I hope that Jimmy can get your pipes fixed, that sounds like a big job. It also sounds like he got quite hurt I hope he is ok.

Happy 2013 to everybody else!!!

In less than three days my girl will be turning 17 years old,I just can not belive it,She has grown  so darn fast.It feel like just today that she was 2 years old came to live with Harry and me.But in the last year I have seen a very big change in her behavoir and her personal. She became a much need it,change thatis. She been off all her phsy med for two yeas now ,which I total belive was behind her behavoir and the way she does things.I would not chang a thing of raisseing her.if her mom was to ask me to do it all over once again I say yes,for it has help came closer to my grandaughter and know the feeling of raiseing a child and for that I thank you Dorenda for giveing the chace  to know the feeling of being a mom and grandmom all in one.Love you so much Dorenda if you only knew.God bless and Happy New Year.

Thanks Michela, I hope he can get them fixed too. he got the one area done, but has to buy more copper pipe and a hot water tank for the other end of the house. 2013 has been a nightmare for me already. I am having huge problems with the SSA, and now they have me owing them nearly 2,000, and this is their mistakes, not mine. The food place wants 367.00 , and I am now cut off. I am cut off from my health insurance too, and I  have a cat named Henry going in for an emergency this morning.

I really hope it is NOT his intestines, as  I am sinking far into debt already, with no way out. He is special, VERY special to me. He is not eating or drinking, and  has been howling all night and morning, every 15 minutes to a half hour apart.  I  have been watching him go in and out of litter boxes all day yesterday. I do not see anything coming out. I do know that I saw the contractions around his back end, and I get the feeling he is blocked. I had one blocked a long time ago, and  it was INTESTINES. She had a green string around the back of her tongue, going down into the intestines. This is a big operation.

I gave him a pill for helping with struvite crystals, and some amoxi drops after that, and then a syringe up the rear part way with olive oil. Nothing helped, but at least I tried. I have him in the carrier now waiting to leave about 11 am. They wanted to give me an appointment for tonight, but when I said he wasn't eating they changed it to this morning. They have 2 vets in that office, but I don't know if they are there at the same time.

I am going to ask if I can make payments if it is a big bill. If all else fails, my friend will let me put him in under her name at her vets..... She  carries a lot of weight there.... I did years ago, at my vets when the one receptionist worked there. They have so many new faces there that I don't know any of them.

Well, I am done with my problems. I think I will try  looking at things in a positive way. I do have to get some photos of this big boy of mine. He is a 14 lb neutered male. I love him to bits. I named him Kawala Momma when I first saw him a few months ago. He looked my kitten that showed up here named Kawala bear. Henry looked like he could be his Mother. I was afraid he was going to get hit in the road, or get pregnant... None of the above happened, and I got him in.

He was an angel from the time he came in here. He said a friendly hello to everybody, and he has been sleeping with me on the couch... Big cuddly bear.

Happy New Year to all of you!

Purr Fect Morning quoteDonna keep us posted on Henry. I'm praying for you both. Its hard when are babies (furkids) get  sick and money is tight Can't wait to see photos of Kawala . Did you say Henry could be his mother? Good luck. Have you heard if photo bucket isn't free anymore? Morning to everyone. Sugar hows Rosie?

Good morning, all! Hope this finds y'all doing well and with things going great. Things are good here. Not much going on here, just my usual. Ray is back to work after a day off. We just hung around home and did nothing though our son did come over for a brief visit to return the vacuum that he borrowed. We ate our traditional black-eyed peas that are supposed to see us with good luck and prosperity throughout 2013. I don't know where the tradition starte d but it's been in my family for years back to my grandmother's day at least.

Sugar, okay. Do let us know in February when you find out or you can ask when they call you with the other news. I'm sure if you ask them for it in ounces they'll tell you. Still 1.5 ounces seems like quite alot to me. I hope all's well with her bloodwork and the fluid itself. I'm so very glad you took Rosie in when you did. I hope she gets better about letting you give her the medicine she needs. I know it's hard to give cats pills especially when they want nothing to do with it and fight you with all they've got. I'm sorry that Black and White isn't home yet, hopefully he comes home soon. I'm glad you din't get much snow.

Michela, yes we had a good day. It was quiet and just family ~ just the way I like it. I'm not much of a social person. We go to our friends' homes occasionally but mainly we stay at home just the two of us and sometimes our son comes over. I'm glad you had a nice, lazy day like you wanted.

Teri, so Michelle will be 17 soon. That's great. Sounds like things are good with her and I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed being mom and grandma all in one.

Donna, glad to hear that Jimmy got at least one part of the pipes fixed. I'm sorry that 2013 has been such a nightmare for you already and sincerely hope it gets better for you. I will keep you in my prayers. I'm sorry to hear that Henry is so sick and truly hope that it's not his intestines. I also hope that whatever is going on it's not too serious. I will keep him in my prayers.

Sandi, thanks for the picture, it's a purrfect way to start the day!

Take care everyone and have a fantastic day.

Donna, you certainly have not had a good start to the new year. I hope everything is ok with Henry. Hopefully your vet will let you make payments any good vet should since their prices are outrageous. Keep us posted on how he is doing.

Sugar, I like Sandi was also wondering how Rosie was doing?

I hope everyone is having a great day, hugs to all

Donna, I hate to hear Henry is having a problem. I know how it is when a special baby has a problem. Let us know as soon as you know what is wrong. I love all my babies but Rosie is my special right now. Expect pricing to go up. Medical equipment and supplies will be taxed I think beginning this year which means we, the customer, will end up paying the tax for the vet.

Rosie is doing great! She is eating good, looking good and is playful again. She had her morning pills and I am already dreading the evening fight! She doesn't quite trust me as much as normal and runs most of the time she sees me coming. She better get used to it, this is for the rest of her life. And I thought I had it bad having to give her a pill every other morning. I've kind of made plans for the future to make payments to the vet. Right now Rosie is current, but who knows what the future might bring for her. If the Lasix doesn't prevent the buildup of fluids she might need to be drained again with those big syringes. I give thanks to God for every bit of time I will have her, especially when she feels as good as she does now. I've already turned the heat down to 61 degrees working my way to 60, hoping to save a penny here and there. They all add up, right?

Teri, I'm glad your Michelle is doing so well. Congratulations to you and Harry for doing a great job. Keep up the good work. I remember 17. I graduated from High School when I was 17 and got a job I had for 30 years. I was on my own just before I turned 18. I felt so grown up. That was a great time. I'm sure Michelle feels grown up too at 17. Tell her this is the beginning of the best years of her life. Does everyone else remember where and what they were doing at 17?

It was cold last night. It was 16 when I looked at the thermometer early this AM. Right now the sun is shinning and there is a little warmth from the sun hitting the storm door. Chewy and Kenny are soaking up the rays. Rosie went out on the deck for about 15 minutes and soaked up some also.

That Tom just got me a good one! My leg is bleeding good. He wanted my attention and did his normal thing which was to reach out and try to hook my leg to get my attention!

I found out it isn't just Little Joe picking on Mouse, Mouse is also threatening Little Joe! I thought it was just Little Joe until today when I saw mouse put a rush on Little Joe for no good reason. Chewy and I were there to keep them from getting into it. Chewy is good keeping them separated when he hears them start their fussing. Chewy is a big help to me. Like finding Rosie when she is hiding from me and keeping Little Joe and Mouse from really hurting each other. He also keeps my feet warm at night!

Hi Everyone,

Henry was blocked with the crystals... The vet catheterized him, and in 2 hours I was able to pick him up. I got some meds for him, and my friend gave me some stuff that helps to prevent the things. He was just in the litter box but we did not hear him peeing.

The vet said if he keeps him for 4 days, it will cost 500.00, and  I would need half of it right away. In case of emergencies, it is not likely for me to put my hands on money. Anyway, he said he would try this first, and it cost 171.00. He said if I suspect a problem in the morning, to bring him back for a free check up.

Figuring out how to feed him something different will be interesting..... I mean I have bowls of dry food everywhere that he should not have, and in the double cases of 9 lives that I buy, there are 4 kinds of food, and 2 are FISH... Magnesium !  He has some liquid pred to take  for 3 days, and then every other day for a while, and amoxi drops.

I don't normally do this, but I wanted to make a quick call on my cell phone, and didn't even have my seat belts on yet, and then I spotted a cop behind me. I hung up real fast, and got the seat belt on. He was CLOSE. Good thing I am short. He didn't see me...

NOPE, Henry could never be his Mother. I did think so when he was outside though. I never got a good look at under his tail until he came in. Maybe his father? No, no relation I guess, as Henry is neutered....

Photobucket is still free. I just went there, and nobody asked for money....

Yes ,she does feel all gwon up.and she act it all t he time.that is why I came up with the ideal to buy two side by side's and let michelle move into one side and let her live a lone.but still be close to us if she would need us for something.but their seem to be hard to find with three bedrooms and bath and a half.Michelle's  appointment when great .Harry is doing great and so are my kat's,but Muchin is starting to act like she did a few weeks ago once again..but I will kept giveing her the shimp and it will help buidle her up again.I am doing great and haveing less pain ,but I am all swell up like a balloon  in both arm s a nd my tummie.I just wish it would all go  away and stay away. Will I do hope that you all had a wesomeday. God Bless

good evening everyone, Donna im glad the kitty is ok for now, I had 2 within a month that had urinary problems so i hurried and changed their food to the urinary tract health food, and mix it with sensitive stomach food because i have 2 that have sensitive stomachs and puke the food all the time without it.

Sugar:glad rosie is doing better

Angie: hope u are feeling better

The sweet young kitty is doing remarkably better, his hair is starting to grow back and his energy levels are coming back little by little. Hes beginning to fill out a lil bit, but his legs are still like toothpicks. Also i didnt realize it when i posted about him before but whoever had him before my son brought him to me had cut his whiskers. In the past wk he has started to play with the other cats finally. Im going to post a pic of him....

baby boy.bmpIm sorry im having trouble making it bigger, i will try to get a better pic of him.

Aww Shell, he is cute. Why in the world would somebody cut his whiskers? I am glad he is doing better, I will look forward to your updates about him.

Donna, so happy that Henry is okay for now, I hope that he starts peeing fine so that you won't have to take him back and have to pay more money but it's nice that the vet will let you bring him back for a free check-up. Let us know how he does.

I hope everyone else is having a fine day,

Donna, I hope Henry is doing better. Sometimes these urinary blockages can be persistent. It's true that Henry should NEVER have regular dry food. It's tough when you have multiple cats and that prescription food is expensive. Try to keep him full of wet food. I have heard that some people have been successful with acidifying the cats drinking water. At least that is simple and doesn't cost anything to try. Most people use a quarter of a teaspoon of distilled vinegar per 10 pounds of cat weight. Add to the cat's drinking bowl. In theory this helps prevent the formation of bladder stones. It's also safe for all the cats, not just Henry.

Good afternoon, all! Hope this finds y'all doing well and with things going great. Things are good here. We had some sleet this morning despite it not being freezing ~ it just melted as soon as it hot the ground. The temps today are in the 40's so far, we're supposed to have a high of 51 with a low of 36. Tomorrow we're supposed to get some rain and our high should be 45 while our low should be 40. Not much going on here, just my usual. Kona is in the window meowing at something outside which is  typical of him.

Michela, good to see you here.

Sugar, so glad to hear that Rosie is doing great. Sure wish cats would listen when you tell them something is for their own good rather than fighting us. Luckily, I don't have to give meds to anyone but Scamp had a bad know in his fur {he absolutely hates to be brushed} and he'd fight Ray drawing blood whenever Ray would try to get it out. Ray finally managed to do it with some sneaky maneuvers but it was a long, drawn-out fight first with Scamp taking off and hiding after drawing blood!

So Mouse is picking on Little Joe? Mouse must be feeling pretty good about himself. Glad you had Chewy to help you split them up. Chewy does sound like a very good dog.

Wow, you've got some cold temps! I guess it's a matter of getting used to it but I sure couldn't handle it if we ever got temps that low.

Donna, sorry to hear about Henry being blocked with crystals. It is hard to feed one cat a special diet when you have multiple cats. Hope that Henry does better and that you get everything figured out {diet, meds, etc}. Also hope you don't have to go back to the vet but it's nice of the vet to give you a free exam if you do.

Wow, I guess it is lucky you are short and the cop didn't see you. I guess it's against the law to be on your cell phon ewhile driving there? It's only against the law in school zones here and I think texting while driving is illegal everywhere in the city.

Teri, yes, they are so grown up at 17. I remember my daughter at 17, she was so mature. Of course, she grew up with a disabled mom so she had to be able to fend for herself. I think the idea of a duplex where y'all live in one side and Michelle in the other is a great idea. Hope y'all can find one. Glad to hear Michelle's appointment went great and that Harry is doing great. Sorry to hear about Muchin starting to go downhill again. Glad to hear that you have no pain despite being all swollen up.

Shell, glad to hear the young kitten is doing better. Does he have a name yet? Oh no, someone cut his whiskers?!?!? That is terrible! Cute picture of him.

Karen, good to see you here. Thanks for th etip about the vinegar in the cat's water bowl. Wonder what you do when you have multiple cats who all weigh different amounts? For example, I have 5 cats who weigh from about 5 or 6 pounds up to 18 to 20 pounds. Not that I'm having any problems with blockages.

To all who have not yet posted or who cannot post, thinking nabout y'all and hope to see y'all soon.

Take care everyone and have a fantastic day.

Darla, I would just take an average weight for the vinegar dose. It isn't in any way toxic so close measurement isn't all that important. If the cats resist the change in the taste of their water start with very small amounts and increase it a little each time you change the water.

Thanks for the helpful hints. I had him there again today as he was blocked this morning. I wound up getting valium for him to take every 8 hours to calm down the spasms or whatever it is that is irritating him. If he spent 4 days in the hospital it would give him a chance to heal from the catheterization, but the vet is trying to keep down the cost.

He extracted some urine from him today, and told me to give him the valium. It helped when he peed. No hollering, but did start 5 hours after his pill, so I gave him another one. We have another appointment for tomorrow morning.

We got the hot water tank into the back room. It is still in the box though. He has to drain the other one before putting this one in. We have to keep turning the water on and off..

Karen, thanks. If I decide to do the vinegar in the water thing, that's what I'll do.

Donna, oh, poor Henry. How's he doing with all the meds? It''s nice of the vet to try to keep down the cost ~ he must trust you to do the right thing for Henry. Of course, we know you would but it's nice to have the vet on your side too.

Well, nice to know you have the hot water tank in the room! lol Hope y'all get it hooked up soon.

Take care everyone and have a fantastiic day.

My friend's cat was so bad off that he actually had to have a sex change, and he has to be on some kind of salty pill for life. She gave me some of the pills for Henry. I am beside myself wondering what I am going to do about the food situation. I had this problem many years ago. It was another neutered male, and he blocked up 8 times. I had to do a lot of calling companies etc, as the first vet I had knew NOTHING. I was giving food high in magnesium, and the vet is saying it is ok.

I went to another vet, and they suggsted Hills CD. oh gosh, 25 years ago, for a 10 lb bag, it was 36.00.... I had him on it for 6 months. He did great. Then Hills said it was not good for him to be on it any longer, as it was not complete. I changed to the hills science diet feline maintenance. It was 20.00 for a 20 lb bag. I had them all on it. He did great until he got into the others food. He could not eat anything else.

This guy had a bobbing condition, and no claws, and  this crystal problem. I saw him out back behind the property in the bushes, and the next day, he was under the house looking out at me. My neighbor swore she did not put him in my fenced yard. He could not even stand if he went to turn around, let alone climb a 6 foot fence with no claws. I named him Bambi, as Charlie. He was a van cat.

He managed to climb up to the picnic table out back, and he got into their food. Then I would have to get the amoxi drops out. I also had to keep a stash of Hills SD canned food. It was not science diet canned food, it was SD the special diet. It stunk like dog food, and looked like it too. I had to get a 12 ounce can, and give him a third of a can each day. It melted the crystals, AND,  this is WHAT I better do for Henry..... I never gave it a thought. This awful stuff must be to the moon in price, as it was high way back when..... I usually kept at least 4 large cans in the house, as it took 2 to 4 cans to melt the stones. Crystals actually.

Charlie was put to sleep when he got older, as he had FIP, the wet form. Back bones prominent, and fluid in the belly....

I was talking about the cases of 48 that I buy. I buy 26 per month, and  12 bags of dry food. The dry food use to be premium, but I  cannot do that now. This happens to be 22 lb bags of kit'n kaboodle. I  have  my buckets filled, but I need to change it. I just bought 2 bags of  cat chow indoor. My friend told me it has no fish in it, and she uses the blue bag. Mine do like the indoor, but, it is more money and a half lbs less. I really wish I could go back to Science diet feline maintance. I do have to buy them canned food too, and God forbid I run out of the drumsticks.   Not sure what I am going to do.

I have been typing away, and nothing was showing up. I have to look at the keyboard to see nothing showing up. I mean, the monitor.   The cases have 2 seafood and one turkey and one chicken. Maybe I will keep the chicken in here, and use the other for outside. I have to take this one day at a time or I will go crazy. he is hollering again.

Donna, I  guess I lost my post. Anyway I just wanted to say when my Bandit was alive he had to  have a sex change operation also. He was pretty sick for awhile, I always thought it was because he was only 2 1/2 weeks old when I got him. I had to buy food low in ash. Science diet is a good one but too expensive.  I buy kit'n kaboodle. my stripes won't eat canned. she likes her dry.  hope Henry gets better. Good to see everyone here, hope this one doesn't go into cyber space! Love to all.

Sorry to just jump in with this, but may I please ask for prayers for all people and animals in Tasmania (our Australian Island State).  They have severe bushfires there.

Sorry this is short - heat makes me tired, but please pray for all the firefighters, people and animals in Tassie.

Thanks,

Val

PS We are in Vic, so OK, but poor Tassie is taking a pounding

I will say a prayer Val, sorry to hear about the bushfires, that is terrible.

Oh Donna, you have a lot going on with Henry. I am happy to hear that you got your hot water tank in hopefully you can get it hooked up soon. I have the same problem at my house, 5 cats and no one wants to eat the same food, 2 need to be on a diet, 1 is too skinny and needs senior food and another is really picky, so I know how hard it is to have one on a different diet, especially because you have more than me. I hope you can figure something out, glad that the vet is trying to keep the cost down for you.

Teri, Happy Birthday to Michelle, it sounds like you will have a nice day with her. I wish I was 17 again

Good morning to everyone else, have a fantastic day

Donna, lets us know how he's doing. Thanks for the add Michela. Val praying for Tassie. Glad your okay. Keep in touch. Sugar hows the cat doing?

Good afternoon, all! Hope this finds y'all doing well and with things going great. Things are good here. I just approved a new Adoption Counselor with the rescue group I volunteer with! I'm so excited to have another  Adoption Counselor! It's raining here today and in the mid 40's with a low later of 37.

Donna, sounds like you had quite the experiece. Wow, those foods are outrageously priced. I can only imagine what they are now if they were that high then. I hope Henry gets better soon.

Sandi, good to see you here. Really like the teddy bear birthday picture you posted for Michelle's birthday. They remind me of Stein teddy bears.

Teri, glad you had a great if busy day. Wish Michelle a Happy Birthday, hope she has a wonderful day.

Val, will keep Tasmania in my prayers. That is a terrible situation.

Michela, good to see you here.

Take care everyone and have a fantastic day.

I am getting tired of the running back and forth to the vets. I hope Henry gets well soon, but this is a condition for life as far as I know. He is on the valium to relax the bladder. I went to the vets this morning with him, and he squeezed the urine out. My next appointment is tomorrow morning... day 4.... I was up at 3 am with Henry, and again at 7 am for his meds. I  wish the bladder would get better.......

I also have some acidic tablets for him, but the vet said to stop them until this is over. He is not interested in What Henry eats right now.... My daily urine squeezing is 13.50 a day... Henry has been sooooo goooood. He is a huge cuddly angel.....

I'm sorry I haven't been here for a couple of days. I don't know why exactly, but I just didn't want to get on. Things are just getting to me. I am so helpless to help anyone and really even myself. I think I will not be on except when I can make myself for a couple of weeks. I will be thinking of everyone and will drop in to say Hi! Unless I start feeling better, hope, hope.

God Bless and care for everyone and every cat!

Sugar I, too, have times when I read the posts but cannot bring myself to write snything. Usually it's because I do not feel I can add anything interesting or I am unable to help. Don't let yourself get too down in the dumps. We care about you and will be thinking of you!

Sugar Take care of yourself and those wonderful animals. We care about you. Somedays I too don't have anything to add but want to know everyone is okay. Saying a pray for all the animals and their owners.

Good afternoon, all. Hope this finds y'all doing well and with things going great. Things are good here. Supposed to be a mild day with a high of 52 and a low of 39. Not too bad for the first part of January. Not much to add, just my usual going on.

Teri, so sorry to hear about Muchin. I will keep her in my prayers and send some healing energy her way. One dollar for every year ~ my mom used to do that for my kids for their birthdays!

Donna, sorry to hear things are still tough with Henry. Yes, I believe it is a condition for life; however, I do believe once he's over the acute phase he should be okay in that it can be managed and it won't be like it is now with the continuous vet visits. It's great that Henry has been so good during all this.

Shell, I've heard of Da Bird as it is a highly recommended toy. I'm glad to hear that your cats liked it so much.

Karen, great to see you here. Even when you supposedly have "nothing to add", it's good to have you posting.

Sugar, sorry you're feeling down. Hope you get better soon. You have been missed and will be missed while you're not posting. How is Rosie doing?

Sandi, great to see you here.

Take care everyone and have a fantastic day.

Hi everyone!  I am still sick and still on the laptop, propped up in bed with Bandit lying on top of me. I think she has been worried about me; I wake up sometimes and she is just studying me My little angel. I am so ready to feel better...I hate being sick and I really hate being sick and alone in the house.  Oh well, no sense whining about it right?

Sugar~~I am sorry you're feeling so out of sorts. It's been a rough couple of weeks for you and I am sure it is building up inside of you. I know every once in awhile I have to sit down and have a good cry. Things in my life build up and sooner or later, I have to succumb to my emotions and just let 'er rip. I know it isn't a solve-all solution or anything but seriously, it does make me feel alot better. I wish I lived next door so I could give you a hug and a chance to unload some of your woes.  It sucks that medicine is so darned expensive.   I guess there are no relief programs for animal meds as there are for people meds? I hope you find an answer, I know it must be tough to have this cloud hanging over you. Hang in there my friend!!  Hold your furbabies close and watch out for Black and White's claws!

Donna~~oh my gosh, what a nightmare for you.  I hope Henry gets better soon; it seems the longer it goes on, the more reluctant they are to pee--I guess the memory of the pain. It is so hard to see those we love in pain. I'm sure there is a solution to the feeding problem; once things settle down a bit, the answer will come to you. It's hard to think logically when things are coming at you from all directions. I hope Jimmy gets your hot water heater hooked up and operational soon. My septic system seems to have calmed down and now when Bob gets home from the city, he has a mess of plumbing repairs waiting for him. We had the water shut off and I want to drain the hot water heater; the mineral content in our water is so high that I'm worried about what is forming in the hot water heater this week.   He also needs to replace a few sets of taps right down to the pipes, they are so corroded. I threw out my lifelong warranty from Moen faucets but you can bet I'll be hanging on to the next one

Teri~~I'm so sorry to hear about Muchin being so weak...I will definitely keep her in my prayers. I'm glad Michelle had a good birthday, 17 is a great age though I was already married with my first child by that time!!  My twins just turned 19 last week...they are my babies. I'm glad my kids all took the opportunity to enjoy life before they jumped into marriage and family.  You have raised Michelle since she was 2?   How wonderful for you to be mom and grandma too. I raised my kids and also took in 3 of my nieces for a year here and 6-months there, mostly because they were having problems in school. We eventually adopted my one niece when Bob's brother and his wife were killed.  I also took in my oldest grandson for his last year of highschool because his parents kicked him out.  My oldest daughter (his mom) still won't speak to me over this and it's been over a year now.  My grandson lives with his girlfriend many miles from me, a 3 hour drive, but he still comes to my house for every holiday, just as he has for his whole life. He has Asperger's Syndrome, which is a high functioning form of autism, and he doesn't deal with change well. I'm sure it doesn't sit too well with his mother that her son would rather spend the holidays with us than his parents, since they now refuse to come spend Christmas dinner with us and the rest of the family. All my kids' friends call me or drop over to see how I am; for years my house was full of kids, my own and the neighbours.  Being a mom isn't always about giving birth, that's for sure

Darla~~so great to read that you finally got that boot off your foot!! How does it feel to be walking that bare-footing walk?   I am always barefoot, in the house anyway.  I hate shoes and I really hate socks so I avoid both whenever possible.  I have work boots for working around the property and I have a pair of big, warm winter boots--these are my most used pairs of footware.  I own mega shoes from when I went to work and I do love shoes, for their look and style.  I just don't really like them on me.  I also own running shoes, which I've had for about a decade now.  I went to buy a new pair while I was Christmas shopping and boy was I in for a shock! I went to 4 shoe stores in this mall and every one of them was like walking into a sea of neon. I looked everywhere and I could not find one pair of athletic shoes that I could live with.  Boy did that shopping trip make me feel old.

Shell~~so good to see your new kitty looking so healthy.  His picture is so cute!!  What a dumb thing for someone to have done--cut his whiskers....that's crazy.  We have one of those Da Bird toys too....my kitties just love it

Sandi, Michela, Karen and Val....it's good to see you all. I most certainly send my prayers to all the firefighters, people and animals in Tasmania while the bushfires are burning. Have a good weekend everyone; su

Angie, yes, it's great to be out of that darn boot. I too hate shoes and socks and love being barefoot. My favorite shoes tend to be moccasins as I feel barefoot in a good-fitting pair! However, I have a pair of gladiator sandals that are awesomely confortable. I found them on e-Bay and they fit so well, I absolutely love them! They have a thong thingy for my big toe and a wrap-around piece of leather like material {feels like really soft leather but is man-made} around my ankle that laces to fit with a single, flat piece of material for th esole. Very simple and I get lots of compliments on them.

I'm sorry that you're still sick and on the dreaded laptop. Will keep you in my prayers and send healing energy your way. I'm glad you have Bandit taking care of you. Cats send healing energy themselves.

DO ANY OF U KNOW ABOUT FIP? DID ANYONE EVER HAVE A CAT WITH IT AND ARE OTHER CATS SAFE AROUND AN FIP CAT. THE KITTY IM NURSING BACK TO HEALTH SEEMS TO BE DOING WELL BUT STILL HAS A PUDGY BELLY THE VET NATURALLY ASSUMED AS DID I WAS WORMS WHICH HE DID HAVE. HIS EYES ARE A LOT BETTER BUT THE 3RD EYELID IS PINK IN COLOR NOT SWOLLEN AND RED ANYMORE. HIS APPETITE IS GOOD AND EATS WELL. HE DID HAVE URINE OR FECES BURNS WHICH IS WHY HE HAD THE SKIN CONDITION BUT THAT HAS HEALED AS WELL. ANY COMMENTS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Shell, is the vet now thinking FIP? I've never had a cat with FIP but did look it up on-line for you. Here's the link ~

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feline_infectious_peritonitis

According to this article, quaratine is not really necessary. Hope all goes well.

Hello everyone,

I just finished reading all the posts here.

First I would like to say to Val that as soon as I read the post about the brush fires, I  said an immediate prayer. My thoughts always go to the animals and birds when I read that. they are the truly helpless victims.

Shell, I had a cat with FIP, the wet form. I am not too sure about the dry form, but the wet form is all fluid in the belly, and the back bones are prominent. I had him put to sleep when he got looking bad. He had become an outside cat, and nobody else caught it. He was the one I had so much trouble with blocking up. He is the one that bobbed his head, had no claws, and fell down when he tried to turn around. That was how he was when he got here. He just laid around when I noticed he wasn't acting right, and then I saw his backbones, and yet he looked heavy. It was all fluids.

I went to the vewts today.  We had our morning appointment. I think this is day 4 or 5. I am not sure now. He palpitated the bladder again to get the urine out. He said the loud noise he is making is actually a grunting sound, when he goes to try to pee. He does not have an appointment tomorrow His appointment is Monday with the other vet, unless he improves, and then I can wait until Tuesday.  I hope I can find the bladder, as he showed me what to do, gently squeeze the urine out, and then let go when he starts to urinate. I am suppose to get as much urine out as I can.

He said the bladder needs to relax, and that is why he is on valium. I am not so sure this was the best route to take. He mentioned 500.00 for around 5 days, but this is up around half of that now, and this might go on for 10 days.  I  am getting disgusted. It is a 30 mile round trip too. I guess that isn't that far, but it is far enough when you are going every day.

Everything is pretty calm right now. I just wish he would urinate better.  I also wish I would know exactly where this bladder is. I never felt any kind of lemon there. He says it could get that big. I am not allowed to let that happen....

The heater is in, and the leak is fixed. The old hot water heater is out back draining, and when it is done draining we can take it to the junk yard and make a buck. Jimmy is really feeling it, as he come up out of the crawl space all wet and muddy. He can hardly walk as it is, so this was rough.  I wasn't sure he could get out of that opening, but he did. I was the one that had to work the water. Turn it on, then turn it off, and open the faucets and close them. FUN..... I was trying to cook.....

Oh, I just recently started wearing tongs around the house. I always went barefooted. They are my favorite shoes......... I really should keep shoes on since I have diabetes.  I had clogs on last year, and stepped back up on a steel blunt rake, and it went through my foot, just under my toes. I fell back screaming with blood all over the place, and I pulled the slightly curved rake out of my foot. 4 rongs went in there. I went in the house and ran my foot under water. That is all I did..... I try to stay up on my tetinus shot as I am likely to step on nails and glass and  get clawed sometimes too.

Hi Sugar,

If you feel like being alone, then rest. If you feel like coming here to read, then read. We have all been there, so we understand. It is nice that you let Mouse post, even when YOU don't feel like talking. I get so overwhelmed myself at times. Lately I have been stressed. Sometimes you don't even know it until one small thing happens, and then hear comes the flood of tears. It is odd for me to dry anymore, but I caught myself a few times wanting to just break down. I take one day at a time most of the time. It is all we can do Sugar, aside from praying, and let God lead us in whatever direction we need to be.

I can remember years ago, when I was upset, I would get a paper and pen out, and write down what is bothering me. When I got done, I had to laugh, as I had every right to feel stressed and depressed. Then I was ok again.

Get a nice bubble bath, and lay there singing some songs. You know we all sing better in the tub.

thank u for the info so far, when my son brought him to me, he had feces or urine burns on his hind legs and was infected, very bad eye infection also,, but all have since been healing quite nicely. He was a little lethargic then but had worms really bad.He has so much energy now, Sometimes cant keep up to his lil butt. His muscles are starting to come back and he has a puffy belly but not between his back legs or just in front from what i was told to look for. His puffy belly is just behind his ribcage. He eats and drinks and plays, i was just worried about the puff belly he has. From what ive read by the time it gets to the puff belly they arent eating much or drinking and are lethargic. He isnt any of those either, his prominent bones are starting to go away from what they were. And he has a lil bit of stuff coming from his eyes again, after 2 wks of the drops in his eyes he seemd to be ok but theres a lil bit there tonight. He eats almost a whole bowl of food a day by himself.

Doesn't sound like FIP. You are right that the cat becomes lethargic. You can see the back bones and the water belly. It is fat and sags too. Maybe your guy is simply gaining weight fast, and it does take time to distribute the fat. The belly comes first..

I need to go and get a hot bubble bath. It feels like the heater quit. Jimmy is sleeping.

Good morning, all! Hope this finds y'all doing well and with things going great. Things are good here. Just a lazy weekend. Our temps today are pretty nice with a high of 63 and a low of 33. Yes, it's quite the difference but that's Texas for you.

Donna, thanks for the update on Henry. I'm sure when it comes time for you to express his bladder you'll do a good job. I'm so glad the vet is working with you on cost. I understand that the 30 mile round trip is frustrating. My freshman year of college {in the early 80's} while I was away from home my mom had my cat Whiskers put to sleep due to a severe case of crystals and blockage. I was devastated but according to my mom the vet said that it was such a severe case he would not have any quality of life so my mom made the decision to put him to sleep.

Glad to hear that the water heater is in and the leak is fixed. Sounds like Jimmy really had a rough go of it to get everything fixed.

Yes, wearing shoes when you're diabetic is important. I have problems with my feet too like sometimes I can't feel things too well and sometimes they don't work {like when I broke my foot} but going barefoot is a habit I can't seem to break.

Shell, Donna's right in that it doesn't sound like FIP from what I read. I'd just keep an eye on him and maybe see what the vet has to say about his belly being puffy still.

Teri, I'm so sorry for y'all's loss of Muchin. Will keep y'all in my thoughts and prayers sending positive energy that way. She certainly was a pretty cat. Sorry also that you're in pain. Hope you get better soon.

Sandi, Sugar, Betty and Karen good to see y'all here.

Take care everyone and have a fantastic day.

i had let him come in to play with the other cats after his lukemia test was negative, do u all thinki i have to be worried about the others. I had never had or have known of a cat with fip, i hadnt even heard of it until last yr. But it seems to be a very scarey and bad thing....its supposedly the corona virus that is contagious but mutates into fip which is lethal. And the more cats u have the more chances the others may come down with it. I have 11 but with him makes 12. I have 6 litter boxes but they are all cleaned 2x a day or more if they need it. I lightly bleached the litter boxes and put him back into isolation away from the others. I could never live with myself if i knew i had killed all my fur babies with that disease.

FIP is not generally passed through casual contact. It is passed by bites or possibly scratches that draw blood. Kittens can be born with it contracting it through the placenta. Females generally get it when they are bitten by males during mating. Males spread it by fighting.

I neglected to add that there is an FIP vaccine but it is considered risky to the cat and unreliable by most vets.

If there is a suspicion that the kitten carries a corona virus I would suggest adding L Lysine to his food. You can buy it anywhere vitamins are sold. Just smash it and add to wet food. The L Lysine reduces the shedding of any viruses.

It should also be noted that most corona viruses DO NOT mutate to active FIP.

i have powdered lysine i bought for my other cat that was always getting uri's. Internet also says its passed through fecal matter (litter boxes) and saliva ( food and water bowls). I will give the lysine to the rest of the cats too.

I suppose it is possible to pass it through feces or saliva but it is rare that such a case is documented unlees the saliva enters a wound.

Shell, I was reading over my posts on FIP and I think I may have given the impression that it is OK to allow the kitten to have full contact with your ofhter fur folk. I didn't mean that. I think it is always best to err on the side of caution. Even if the poor fella doesn't have FIP (and we ALL hope he doesn't) it is still best to limit the exposure of your other cats.  There is still no simple blood test for FIP and testing for corona virus antibodies is costly and cannot give a definitive answer to his illness.

he really doesnt even appear sickly in any way. He had contact with them for about a wk maybe slightly more when i noticed the belly didnt go down after deworming, so i isolated him again. we lightly bleached the litter boxes and im going to give them all the lysine powder i have.

Shell, I send you prayers that everything will be okay. I am starting a new thread and will include this link.

Sugar

Hi Shell,

I had Charlie for quite a while, and he was not contagious to the others. Next to mine, you have a very small family. and none of my others caught that. I do want to add, as karen stated, the bites and scratches can spread it. Charlie never went around fighting any of the other cats.

There was no diagnosis, was there? Well, back then there was no test for it. The vet knew by just looking at him, and he got very sick.

My cats caught the herpes virus. I had 30 of them with it, and the vet suggested lysine 500. I had them all on amoxi drops for any secondary infection. It is a virus, and it actually has to run it's course. It took a month for them to get over it. They don't all get it either for some reason. I remember one of  them was so bad that  I had to confine him to a room with a vaporizer on. Everything was wet. I had a hot one, but they recommend the cool ones. I also used vicks in it, and then read later that it is not recommended for cats.

Don't panic Shell..... My kitten that was 3 months old was with the others for a month while he was back and forth to the vets with abcesses on the bottom and top of his paw. Then he got a prolapsed rectum, and then Pneumonitis, running a high fever. The vet suggested checking for  leukemia. He turned out to be positive. I got this kitten at a yard sale on a highway with his sister. Nobody knew where they came from. He lived to be 7. I gave him his own room, and I moved in with him for 10 months before creating his own yard.

At  that point I had him on homeopathic remedies, and I cooked his meals , and gave him precise dry food. No chemicals in it.  He had a pretty nice joint out there with a round pic nic table and lighted owls, an umbrella, and a tykes play house with an igloo in it, and heated pad for the winter, with his own heated bowl. he was connected to another yard that had several cats in there, so he talked to  them. I found him a school desk  at a yard sale too.

I go off the subject sometimes..... His sister was with him for at least 4 months... I was so broken up when I got that news, that I would not have her tested. I had recently taken a semi feral cat in to be spayed, only to get a call that she was yellow inside. She tested positive for leukemia. She was never around Lucky though.  I took some cats into an extra room in my house to get them spayed. This one was only with me a week before her appointment, and after getting this news, I told him to go ahead and spay her, and I am bringing her home. She died a week later.

Now, back on topic again. His sisters name was Lucy Belle, aka screaming belle.  She lived to be about 20 years old, and was never sick a day in her life. She thought she was a movie star. She is on my page and is around 18 or 19 in those 2 pictures.  She use to visit the yard, and all the males would surround her. She waved her tail high into the sky as she put her hose up and strutted. Then once she stood up, they stood up. She took off over the fence when she was 18, and it was 105 degrees. She was gone for 11 days. My neighbors set their traps out for her. She ate late at night at the horse farm, and I got a call from my friend that she got her.

The thing with leukemia is that if a cat is exposed to it, they can test positive. Lucky was NEVER sick. I don't know what happend when he hit 7, but I do know that it is true that death when taking homeopathic remedies as opposed to allopathic medicine is a much easier death. He was so peaceful when he went to sleep and passed away.

Just maybe the swollen stomach is something else. Don't worry so much at this point, as it doesn't sound like he was in any vicious fights with the others.

He was tested when he was at the vets on the 19th of dec for leukemia/aids, that was negative. around the 21st i dewormed him stuff from the vet. I waited a wk after the deworming to let him in around the other cats since the test was neg. But as time has went on the belly went down a lil bit after deworming but not completely. so i started in with researching why he'd be like that, the thing that stuck out was fip, he must have had dirareah which is what caused the feces burn he had im guessing which is 1 of the signs of fip. He also has the pudge that didnt go down after he was dewormed, another sign of the fip. But otherwise eats, was playing when he was with the others and hasnt had the dirareah since he has been here but with the other people i dont know, im just assuming he had it runs with the burns he had. He has since began to gain a lil weight, bones arent so prominent, and seems to be ok. But since i decided to let him in around the others after his test was neg. for felv/fiv, i was extremely worried about the others in the house that he has been around and playing with for about a wk or a lil more. I have a 5 mth old kitten and 4 cats about 1 1/2 yrs old. And 2 seniors. And no he didnt seem to had been in a fights or anything. I was so worried about the others and feel like i put them into harms way by bringin him in with them that i just wanted to go curl up and cry.

If his weight is finally getting distributed, and he has no prominent back bones sticking out, then it sounds like he doesn't even have FIP... My cat was middle aged when he got it.

i will try to get a picture of what he looks like, it looks like hes filling out but i was still worried about the pudge.

Thank you to all who prayed for Tasmania.  The last update was that the fires were still burning, but no casualties.  Donna, I haven't heard that the animal rescue people are there, but I know they will be - all sorts of volunteers and groups are very quick off the mark to help - it just doesn't make the news until later   And I am praying for Henry and you.

Shell, praying for your cute little guy and your other cats.

Sugar, you are very much in my thoughts every day - you take care.  I send you kitty hugs and nice gentle pats for Rosie.

Teri - deepest sympathy for the loss of Munchin.  I know how much you loved her and cared fpr her.

I am doing OK - I find the heat a bit tiring, but I am doing better every day.  My internet though is running slow and playing up, so hopefully will get to post this!
