I too am interested in helping as host.  Here are some petitions I've authored and a recent write up about me on READLARRY POWELL.

LET'S TALK PETITIONS: There is a tendency to call Anita Solomon "The Petition Lady." She certainly has started a few on thepetitionsite.com. And several are targeting Texas -- that's OK. Anita is a Texan currently living in Florida.

As you know, Texas is a state of the heart, not just a state.

Frankly, in the past, I have been reluctant to mention these sorts of petition drives because I could never see anything happening other than names being collecting. There was no method of delivery to the people who needed to get the message. "Sign up! Sign up!" and everybody would get excited and in a month or so there'd be a moment of "I wonder whatever happened" and then the petition would vanish into the ether of "went nowhere."

But Anita swears her petitions will be delivered in a timely and appropriate manner to the elected official who needs to get the nudge.

Here are three dealing with Texas:

The "get though on animal cruelty" petition (www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/260153688) will go to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot, says Anita.

The Mercy's Law petition (www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/809607957) will be sent to Texas' legislators.

And the petition demanding a full, vigorous prosecution of the guy accused of being cruel to Mercy the Dog (www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/536739879) will be sent to Bill Hill, the Dallas County District Attorney.

It is certainly a good thing to know that people are trying to influence these elected officials to do the right thing. And it is also good to know that the folks at the Texas Humane Legislation Network are in the trenches in Austin trying to persuade the Legislature to make the laws tougher. So, sign a petition. Get involved with the THLN and be a noisy but politely forceful element helping your legislator shape his or her agenda.

As Anita says, "You are right in that unless a petition is addressed to the proper individuals and actually sent a hard copy, at the appropriate time, they have no merit whatsoever.

"I'm not saying I can make a miracle happen, but I am trying to go beyond what other petition authors have done.  I am only one person, but if others would step up to the plate, perhaps a miracle CAN happen."

If you want to thank Anita for her work or get involved with her petition projects, e-mail her at puppymillskill@yahoo.com. Obviously, based on her e-mail address, she's not shy about voicing an opinion.
