Be Prepared For An Emergency December 26, 2008 2:45 PM

Several years ago, we learned how to pack for a cat when Termi was traveling to OSU and Indiana.  It was so easy to get her ready, once we had a suitcase for her.

Termi's Emergency Kit

We thought that we could share our ideas.  This would also be good for emergencey evacuations.

1st;  You need a carry-on bag.  It should be expandable.  The one that we used for Termi had two compartments and a small, round container that we used for litter.  You can purchase disposible litter boxes that are made of paper, for short-term use.

2nd:  You can purchase a plastic container in which to keep a ziplock bag of dry food, cans of cat food, vitamins and treats.  We placed this container, a couple of bottles of water, a food dish, water dish, and the round litter container in the main compartment.

3rd:  In the smaller, front pocket, we placed a harness, leash, and toys.

4th:  Don't forget prescription medication, flea and heartworm medication.  Put things in ziploc bags and be sure that each medication is marked with the pet's name and directions for use.

Be sure to have a sturdy carrier that latches or locks, with your cat's name, your name, phone number, cell-phone, and address.  You should also include the name, address, and phone number of your Veterinarian.

Remember to do this for all of you pets.   Dogs need name tags, rabies tags, and any license that is required in your area.

We hope that this will help you in case of an emergency.
