I belong to the religion of Islam. I ventured into this group some time ago, but only just decided to join. I've been reading through some of the topics and I do believe there's a lot to learn about other religions as well. Here seems to be a good place to start.
My name is Martha and I'm a Christian. Thanks for approving me. I hope to make a lot of friends here. I live in Chicago IL. I'm single with no kids and still live with my parents. I work on and off doing temporary staffing for conventions and trade shows.
Hi I'm Kay, I'm a naturalistic / scientific pantheist, which means I believe the Universe and Nature itself is divine and worthy of reverence, and feel a strong connection with Nature. I see the Universe and Earth as a living being, not in the "aware" sense but "living" in the sense that it creates, sustains and destroys itself, it is alive with living beings. Universe itself is the Creator.
Living in harmony with Nature is Paradise, separation from Nature is Hell. When we die we live on in the memories other people have of us, and the elements that make up our bodies are recycled back into Nature.
Very few people have heard of pantheism so I have been criticised several times because of my beliefs, by people who say that my faith isn't a real religion. It is often also confused with atheism, agnosticism, scientology and paganism, although it is similar in quite a few ways to both atheism and paganism, it is very much a separate belief system. Many pagans have pantheistic views and many atheists are actually pantheist and just don't know that pantheism exists.
Hi, my name is Stuart and I just joined the Religions of the World group today.
I thought learning of the different religions of the world would be of interest, especially as I am trying to create more peace and human harmony in our world.
Hello friends and welcome to Religions of the World Group. This group is for each of us to learn from each other thru getting to know the difference belief systems of the world. It is also designed for someone to learn about and discuss the many different religions of the world..Anyone who is interested in the history of the world or in their own culture will probably find this group very interesting..Thanks again for each of you joining the group..
My name is Stephen. Chief Runningfox, my dear wise friend. First I want you to know how much I appreciate your contributions to my group, "The Art of Communication". We have all been enriched by your spirituality. I was encouraged to join your group and it is with great pleasure. For those who don't know me. My background is Greek educated with a masters degree. I majored in Philosophy amd minored in Theology. I was once very involved with the Greek Orthodox church, working at Saint Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles California. I was part of the coalition of united religions for the betterment for the Los Angeles community. I was on radio and television in the 70's. I became dis-enchanted with structured religion and my faith and spirituality primarily come from mother Earth and all living creatures. I hope I can contribute to this group and welcome all friendships here.
I give a big bear hug to my friend, Chief Runningfox.
Thank you Chief RunningFox for your direction here, this is a real gift ! You are so eloquent and wise, it is an honour to be invted here. Thank you. Hi, everyone! I'm Susan...a Jewish, Christian, Buddhist Wiccan. Uh...yeah! Truthfully, I don't know how to define myself. I'm highly interested in religion, but I can't say that I have one particular system of belief. I've recently begun attending a Unitarian Universalist church, and I'm feeling very much at home. I was raised strict Southern Baptist, as a child. When I was around 12, my family discovered we had Jewish heritage, so we then became "born again Jews" that went to a Southern Baptist church...Oy vay! We celebrated Hannakuh and Christmas. We went to church on Sundays, but we also observed Shabbot. We didn't eat pork or shellfish at home, although, the second I got out of the house, I'd go straight to Red Lobster! I was adopted, and my birth mother was Korean and Buddhist and also very involved with the metaphysical. Before I even knew my history, I felt strongly about peace, enlightenment, the sky, and the love of the earth. Since I was 9, I've called myself a "hippie". So, what does that make me? I don't know! Some say "NUTS!"...I say "HAPPY!"

in this day and age religion seems to pop up in almost any conversation. almost every piece of international news refers to some religion or the other. it is so important that we start learning about religious beliefs other than our own, if we are to at least understand the world we live in. and perhaps even understad G-D and our purpose..
Hola Amin, thanks to invite me to this group, I'm really interesting in learn about the religions of The World, but more important to repect all of them, I'm mexican, I belive in God but I don't have a specific religion.
HI AMIN, THANK YOU FOR THIS INVITATION AND I REALLY APPRECIATE IT..HI EVERYONE ELSE,I LOOK FORWARD TO LEARNING FROM ALL OF YOU,AND OCASSIONALLY ADDING TO THE GROUP TOO. I WANT to get to know everyone better, but I think its is the "leaders"(governments.) in the news that worry me,not the "general public." Do I make sense? Or am I just a worry wart?
We're happy that you have joined this group Tiffany and Sapan.
Sarvo...this is the second time that you've brought up Bilderberg...at least, that I have seen...why would you ask students about that group? Do you actually believe it's ligitimate? It's political and can't be discussed here, what group do you go to discuss it?
Amin for the invitation !! And it is so nice to see you too Waya as a host. I consider myself a spiritual person. I believe in God as our creator and Jesus as our Savior but I do not put myself into a denomination in Christianity as it is too organized and thus people tend to miss out on the vital concept of what God's love truly is.
I am also very inquisitive about other religions. I find them very interesting so I know Amin has led me to the right place! Thanks again.
Talked to about a hundred students up at UWM (University of Wisconsin Milwaukee) last week. Walked through a door, found myself going down some really steep stairs and when I got to the bottom, I turned around and found myself looking up at an auditorium packed with college kids. Mahotsava, an amazing devotee from India, and I got them all to chant the maha mantra and then I opened it up to questions. It was lively and exciting and then there was a pause and I challenged the students. I said I had a question. I asked them for a show of hands. I said I'd like the students who understood the significance of the word Bilderberg to raise their hands. I looked over at the professor and he was totally on board and digging it and the class really surprised me. Ten years ago no one would have had a clue but out of about a hundred students, twenty hands went up and I asked them to explain it all to their fellow classmates later and we moved on to other things. It definitely was very exciting. We certainly do live in interesting times.

... Amin, I found this group through your Profile, after we became connected as friends ... I am so grateful for all of the Great Good Work here! We all have a Universal Responsibility to expand our knowledge and understanding of all of the World's Religions and to become good Citizens in This World, in these tumultuous times. Thankfully, the entire Care2.com Community helps each and every one of us to CONNECT in all good ways for the work that we can mutually do in this time! =sapan= Lone Hawk Watcher

prophets in the wilderness February 26, 2006 4:43 PM
Most religions decay over time when money and power come into play.
Everything becomes corrupted! Many civilizations ended. That is why prophets appear from time to time.
[send green star]
This is a nice group of people. Some here are already my "friends" through Care2.
I believe the essence of religions is to have a practical experience of the divine, or God, within, through meditation. Most religions decay over time and lose the original purpose and revelation by the founder. I believe new representations of the divine, or teachers, come forth from time to time to show people how to experience God within and live in harmony.
G.O.D. stands for "Generator", Operator, and "Destroyer". I like the old saying, " there are two gods, the one that we make and the one that made us." The one that made us is beyond words and books. It's also beyond "religion".
Just wanted to share my word of thanks to Patrick Liong for inviting me to join this group. Lately, my reading has taken me to places like Pema Chodron, Pan-Gaia magazine, and a book on the powers of mudras, so this group feels like a natural fit.
My Dad used to call my Mum a Holy Roller because she was always involved in church activities. But, because of that fact...she stayed married to him all his life and was with him at his death. I think that's amazing. If only the dogma of religion didn't get so overwhelming. One of the first things that you learn is...Judge not...lest ye be judged. But as soon as you get involved with religion there's a lot of judging going on. The book 'One' by Richard Bach made the greatest impact on me because of one little sentence. I can't remember it verbatim, but, the gist of it is...when you have found the truth and you share it, the truth becomes a religion...from that point on it has been altered. I cannot abide completely by the Bible because it was written by men who claim to be inspired by God. Down through the years all the different translations can be muddied. I've been studying about the Essenes which I believe (from my heart, only because I am not an English language scholar.) that the word essence is derived. Essence is really what it's all about. Because how can you put the Creative and Cosmic Spirit into words? Nothing is quite suitable. The void...from which all life springs eternal, and will forever, remain a mystery.

I would have to say that there is a lot more in common between the various religions and sects than there is different. What is common though, is the barriers that people erect to protect their beliefs that were handed down to them by their parents and cultures.
Although I feel I've beat all of the bushes and emptied all of the cupboards I've come across, I woudn't even think of pretending that I've experienced all there is....only that I've tried to maintain an open mind. 'Holy Roller' never came into my vocabulary until after I was trying to explain to my parents why I hadn't followed them. It was never on my radar but I don't feel I'm in the position to say anything about others beliefs...remember, I just got here, Melissa.
[send green star]
We are so happy that you're happy, and here with us! Thanks for joining...
It's good to have religious experience, did you find that they aren't much different? I was at a friend's church revival once and discovered what the term 'holy roller' was all about and it didn't have ANYTHING to do with dice!
..I've been poking around here for months but never really said 'hi'.
short intro......I was born into a Catholic family, at the age of 3 and after a divorce, I decided that I was really Lutheran and was baptised as such. Then at 13 (after another divorce), I was 'born again' and was quite content until about the time I turned 16.
Then, I got lost, joined tha navy a couple of years later and as I learned of different cultures, I also began to doubt the assumption that by chance, I had been born into the perfect religion.
So, after several years of reading, asking questions, doubting and then doing more research, I am quite content about the path I have now chosen - which, fortunately for me allows me to keep a healthy interest and appreciation of other religions. That is why I am here - to learn more about how how others celebrate their existence.
Always good to see a new person join the group... There isn't a right or wrong religion...only right and wrong behavior. Does a Baptist mean that you've been baptized in the river? I was baptized in a Catholic Church but, raised Protestant... go figure. I'll take off that duplicate post.
How wonderful to see you here! Thank you so much for joining and I will check out the Rasta Way...it's sounds interesting and I never even knew that there was a practice/religion involved.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHIEF RUNNINGFOX!!! And thank you so much for inviting me to yet another of your outstanding groups.! Hope I don't get in trouble for the caps, but am willing to risk it.
[send green star]
Thank you Chief RunningFox Moos for the invite ...you have been quite an online mentor to me.
over the years I dipped into many spiritual think tanks ..read many books, J. Chambell has been a great teacher to me ...every time I re read a book of his, see the the videos I walk away a changed person. Is it only me, or does religion spells structure and spirituality a freedom of that bcause it embraces everything and everyone?
Carol S wrote: I encountered Santeria which has affected my life very powerfully.
Carol could you tell us about Santeria I am sure many on here including myself have never heard of this religion? I would love to hear about it if you could share with us..
Thank you for inviting me. As an anthropologist, comparative religion is one of my specialties. In particular, I am interested in religious/spiritual healing. In teaching students, I often use the Navajo "sings" as examples of healing rituals.
I taught a course on death and dying last year, and did so from the perspective of the anthropology of religion. The theme was human transcendence of death. We looked at Hinduism, Taoism, Zen, three continents of indigenous religions (North America, Africa, and Australia), and the Abrahamic traditions.
Personally, I consider myself a bi-denominational Christian, Catholic and progressive anabaptist (there's bit of a joke there). I sincerely believe the God's face is everywhere, and not one society has Truth nailed down. The sacred has a way of poking its head up in front of us, and God's face is everywhere
A warm and hearty thank you for the invitation Runningfox July 03, 2005 3:03 PM
Altho I saw this group, I'm such a political animal that I didn't immediately join. Thank you so much for including me Runningfox.
As many have said here, while I'm not an organized religious believer, I am spiritual and feel more a sort of spirituality of place. Permit me to explain. I was raised in the US as a Roman Catholic by my mother who had converted from the Lutheran religion, and who retains the protestant independent perspective to this day.
Following a youthful period of agnosticism/atheism, I converted to Judaism as a Conservative and raised my children in the Reconstructionist branch of this religion. I still consider myself Jewish and observe the holidays en familia and privately.
When I visited Nepal and India I expected to resonate with Buddhism. Instead, while there I felt the gods and goddesses of Hinduism quite strongly.
I have long dabbled in wicca.
Since moving to Cuba seven years ago, I encountered Santeria which has affected my life very powerfully. I am not a formal member -not in any way a santo- but my saints do respond to me when I ask-something I do not do often and always positively and personally. At one and the same time, I intellectually consider this superstition, yet respect, what for me at least, has shown itself to be a very powerful. force
So, again for me, there does seem to be a very real connection between religion and culture, with some religions stronger -in a spiritual rather than a numbers sense- in places where they have grown for centuries.
I guess all of that is to say, I think I fit in here and thank you again.

I shouls have introduced myself July 03, 2005 9:43 AM
I can be impulsive and just started right in.I am here to learn about different religions and spiritualities.I do not consider myself religious(not conforming to a particular belief) but definitely spiritual.I am hoping that this group will help me find my path and teach me tolerance and love of my fellow humans and all life on our great planet.Thank you for the invite.
[send green star]
~ Thank you for the invitation. This looks like a wonderful group to 'learn' from. Although I was raised a per'se "Christian", I do not consider myself to be of any one particular 'religion'...but rather I believe our Creator to be a "Supreme Being" and everyone and everything, down to the very core of life (the center of the universe) consists of a "Spirit"...
As mentioned above, I am here without 'blindfolds' and have learned some of the most important aspects of life, from 'listening and observing'...I do not waste my time on negative folks, so I hope I've found some very positive folks here to share my life with. And, from noting who the Hosts/Co-Hosts are, as well as, recognizing many of my friends...perhaps at last...I've found a place to move forward with.
Thanks , Melissa, for inviting me to suchan outstanding and worthy group. I will be leaving for California from 7/6 to 7/20 to visit my friends and family. I will be able to join the discussions after that. Right now, I'm running in circles trying to get ready physically and mentally. I am terrified of flying.

everyone..... Shadow bear don't you know I knew you were Jewish and Ket was into Earth Religions or as you posted somewhere on another group before a witch.... I may not be good at net messeging all my friends every single day but I have been known to pay attention at times I am certainly looking forward to learning more from everyone....
I received an invitation from a friend to join this group. I belong to a Unitarian Universalist church in Milwaukee where we have a wide range of religious beliefs.
I like reading about different beliefs. I feel the energy of those believing their own or also those shared by me. It is a great energy force. It is very powerful...no matter what is believed by whom...This is why I respect it all.
Here is a link to one place I like to read about different religions.
I feel people need to know what others believe, they do not have to also beleive it but just know it is TRUE for that person and soletit be.
Remember, The FACE of the CREATOR is in the face of many...Every where you look: in the cities or wild lands...in the tiny ponds or Great Lakes, small streams or giant oceans...In the Highest tree or lowest rock, Great Spirit (Whoever you call him by) IS THERE!
India (and Iran as Mehr rightly says) have been the cradle of some of the worlds greatest civilizations and religions and religious thoughts.
All religions have 3 basic common themes: Do good unto others; and love for all creatures; and tolerance!
I believe that this group is the perfect place to celebrate all religions in their multiple diversity and for each of us to learn from the other

Dear Silver Wolf thanks a lot for invitation . Iran is one of the most ancient lands in the world and monotheism began in Iran.Iran and India are the lands of religions and Iranian beliefs and religions influenced most of the religions in all around the world.

Thank you so very much for the invite...it is actually a part time hobby of mine to learn of the different paths people take, and hopefully it will help strengthen my own.
For the invitation to this diverse group!
I too, studied world religions in college, and refer to many texts often when discussing religions. I suppose in forums such as these, we can come face-to-face with people of differring faiths, and see just how much our book-learning helps, and hinders. Accepting other faiths is easy for me, the struggle comes when accepting PEOPLE of other faiths. My path of Love continues as I keep an open mind and heart, and I will enjoy this continuing journey of tolerance.
It's wonderful to see so many familiar faces.
OM Shanti

for the invitation! I am beginning my educational path to an Archeaology/Anthropology degree and eventually PhD. One of the things that has most interested me about the peoples of our past has been the variety of religious iconography and beliefs. These variations continue on today and the internet (with groups like this) enable us to connect with each other and see how alike we really are. No matter what we call our God(dess), that entity is real to us all.
Bright Blesings to all! I can't wait to learn more!
I'm regularly on call as a guest speaker and show up in my dhoti (robes) and tilak (sacred clay markings on the forehead). To explain Krishna consciousness to groups in colleges, universities, highschools, hospitals and really anywhere I'm invited. In 1969 as I came out of a month long coma, the nurse who happened to be there looking down at me said, "It was 50/50 whether or not you would get through this. God must have some plan for you." I can see now that she was right and as I surrender more and more to God's desire, the bliss increases more and more.

I have studied comparative religions most of my life - my parents could not agree how I should be raised so I was exposed to both Lutheranism and Russian Orthodoxy as a child.
Then my studies branched out and I studied many; eventually teaching Woman's Spirituality.
I thank you for starting this group so people can learn that we have much more in common than we have differences!
Thankyou Runningfox and Silverwolf June 30, 2005 5:05 AM
Thankyou for inviting me to this group. I have studied many Religions throughout the years and will be very interested in the views of others. Thank you for the kind invite to this most interesting group. A subject I am most intersted in. I look forward to learning and exchanging information on religion.
Thank you very much for inviting me to your group.
There are a lot of interesting moments in the world religions. I had in my life a perioud when I spouk hours and hours about religions, atheism and history of religions. But later I thought something changed in my mind, my thoughs about the world religions are different now. It is getting change always.
for the invitation. I, too, am honored to have been asked to join. One of the most rewarding experiences that I have had was to take an Introduction to World Religions class last spring. I had a wonderful instructor, and I kept my books, so I have them at hand for reference. I'm sure I'll be looking at them for this group. I am looking forward to reading everyone's contributions to the group.

Hello Everyone, and Thank You, SilverWolf & RunningFox. June 29, 2005 9:38 PM
I'm happy to join this gathering! It will be a pleasure to learn about all the different religious beliefs. It's the essence of each and every one that will make it possible for us all to become aware of the truth. I suspect that the truth will be very simple.
Glad to be here, thanks for the invite. I really like what I just read, reminds me of my beliefs, the phrase all roads lead to Rome is where I got my belief I believe all roads lead to God everybody just needs a little different road.
Thank you for inviting me to join you here. I have always believed that there are many paths to the one truth. Because of this I reasoned that, just as many people can stand about in a field and have a different perception of a tree in its center, the only way for many people to realize the one truth is to share their different perspectives and seek the common vision. This group will, I think, enrich us all.

This is fantastic! Thank you for creating this group, I so enjoy learning all I can especially when it comes to spiritual knowledge. My belief system is unique and is a culmination of different belief systems, which I weaved together.I’ve been told that the road to enlightenment would be quicker if I chose a system that is already in practice, tried and true so to speak. I’m not sure the creator really discriminates I would much rather think it is our intentions that he observes.

for inviting me. I am fascinated by how many things in common each religion has.If God made one of us, He made all of us. No matter by what name we call Him, I think there is only One. JMHO of course.
Thanks for the invitation. I look forward to reading the threads in this group. It'll be nice to learn more about other religions after having been indoctrinated in Catholicism for the bulk of my childhood.

This group is for informational purposes only and no prayer requests or petitions will be permitted to be posted here and no one will be allowed to say their religion is the one true religion or another persons religion is wrong..This group is for each of us to learn from each other thru getting to know the different belief systems of the world..Please bear this in mind when posting.. This is a golden opportunity for each of us to get to know each other much better..
Thanks again for each of you joining the group.. Please feel free to reply or not reply to anything posted here.. Those of you who know Silverwolf and me know we do not require any member of any group we host to do anything..They are free to comment or not comment we leave that choice up to them and if they choose not to post anything nothing will happen and thay most certainly would never be unsubscribed for not posting as some group hosts have done in the past..
Thank you for your invitation to join this group. I agree that learning about different religions and spiritual beliefs is important. I feel it can create acceptance of differences, which can bring peace on earth! I am happy to contribute in any way I can. I have never joined a group like this, so wanted to ask, is there a time frame when issues are posted or do we check in whenever the spirit moves us? Thank you again.
Thanks a lot for all of you joining this group.. Recently it dawned on me that here on care2 is a golden opportunity for people from all over the world to share their many different beliefs..One of the things I have found was that the majority of the people I asked about their religious beliefs were they considered themselves not to be mainstream..I am here to learn and to share and I hope all of you will ask questions and open a dialog about your different beliefs.. This group is not about trying to preach to anyone or to convince anyone that one religion is better than another or any religion is right we could care less whether or not you have a religion because that is your choice to make.. You will probably be as amazed as I am that no matter where we live or what we believe or don't believe we are more alike than not..All of us all over the world are connected and all of us are more alike in many different things than we realize.. Have fun learning and sharing on this group and when you ask a question ask the entire group intead of a single group member..We can each teach each other.. ( I love the way that sounds)
I don't believe in any kind of God or magic, but I do think that religions are an essential part of human history, and I would love to know what you all think, and what you all believe. Thanks a lot for joining me in Besitos, Clarita
