* I am here because I believe in making the world a better place.
* I believe in treating others with trust and respect.
* I believe everyone has something to contribute.
A lot of negativity and rudenes and just plain weird stuff has been going around on care2 lately, and this simple pledge has been making the rounds as a response to that. It's just a little reminder of why we're all here.
Fortunately we have never had a single problem on this group, but I have seen several other groups fall victim to slamming, slandering and deleting.
To take the Pledge and show the community that you're opposed to the negativity, simply paste this button to your homepage and on your groups. Let's make care2 fun again!
I thought with so much caring by everyone, about a huge amount of the same causes, that peoples differences would be small enough in comparison, left home on a shelf.
Sigh, so sad really!
When I saw the pledge, I thought that really said alot about people doing more and my being able to do more with a Group then by myself.
I just wanted to do my share, relax and just enjoy being here and meet some real people, kind people, yes new friends who care about the same things I do. Sounds nice to me!
About cut and paste, either with right click info or I do things the old hard way. find the edge click and drag over, then use key boards Ctrl and c to copy then take it to where I want it and click on spot and use key board Ctrl and v to paste.
I am trying to figure out how to put a picture in tributes or testimonial ;o) Cut and paste did not work for me there! Nor did link of picture!
I see every thing is color coded and wondered about the meaning of that, each color and if there is a page to explain. Yes, I am very new here. Having fun learning!
As I said, we have never had any problems here, because we are all people who believe in environmental causes, and we're all friends, but you will see really horrible behavior on some care2 groups-- behavior that used to be unheard of.
As far as cutting and pasting goes-- left click and drag to highlight in blue, then control/c to cut, then go left click your curser on your objective (such as my page billboard, or reply to topic,) and press control/v.-- I can give you more help if you send a personal message...
To insert an image in a testimonial, or by basic editor-- find the url of the image by right clicking on it, and then left clicking on Properties-- then insert the image by html code like this:
<IMG SRC="the url of your image">
The url will start with htttp:// and end with .jpg or .gif...
It's actually not that complicated if you experiment...
I have taken the pledge and the Icon is posted on my billboard for all to see. I have seen others with it and always wondered about it. Now I can be an example for others. I have encountered some negativity while expressing my opinion and asking for patience til they got to know of me. Also invited to a group and then denied..go figure. Over all my experience has been wonderful. Thanks for allowing me to take the pledge and display it proudly!!!

I do agree with you, Archie. There's quite a bit of arrogance, hostility , ignorance, and just plain pettiness going on 'round here. Fortunately, however, there are still groups such as yours that keep the focus on the issues and on working , slowly but surely , toward a better world. Thanks. Now....how do I put up that pledge...?

If you go to your profile page and click "my page billboard" it'll open up a dialog box. Then you can copy and paste the emblem as described above. Or you can get the url of the emblem by right clicking on it and selecting "properties." Then you click on "html" at the top of the dialog box and enter it enclosed by this code:
<IMG SRC="the url of the emblem">
always click "preview" to see if it worked, before you hit submit.
I took the pledge! May all who are a member in this awesome goup that Archie has created..Take the pledge too! Thanks Archie and all the beautiful people here on Care2.
peace,Bonnetta

I shall try and paste this on my page. Thanks for letting us know how to do that and thanks for being a friend who cares about our enviroment and nature!
I have never encountered any rudeness or slamming on this site. Hopefully I never shall.
Also thanks for allowing me to join this great group!
I pledged and posted on my page. March 04, 2006 6:46 AM
I'm also very greatful for a place where like minded ppl can come together and share as well as fight for a good cause. It's hard to keep up with so many issues and so wonderful so many care to share so we can keep the bases covered.

We as a group have to stand up and fight against the negative and help people with the positive. Some ways to do this is: ~~~~~~~~~Stop Child abuse in its track!! Stand up and be counted. Help all the children have a chance to love and laugh. ~~~~~~~~~~Stop domestic violence! If you hear violence going on, do something! Don't think it is none of your business, cause it is all our business. Say "NO" to drugs. If we don't do something who will? ~~~~~~~~~Stop animal abuse! It is a fact that human violence is associated with animal abuse. Serial killers and murderers started out with animals before moving on to people. Animals are living beings and should not suffer. Stand up and fight!
I saw a turtle in the road, I stopped and picked it up and dirrected it to the otherside where it wanted to go!
Thank you Archie for the invite to this group!!! I most adamantly agree with having roadless areas!!! I've already signed the pledge and it's good to remind people of the reason we are here!

I've gotta tell ya, Archie...Some people make it hard to stick to the pledge. Still , in the end , it does keep me focused and (relatively) sane , so....I'm glad I 've taken it. Thanks for the idea.

That's okay, Shawna. You have to use the Basic Editor function... There's some instructions earlier in the thread. But thanks for reminding me what it's all about. Sometimes we all need a reminder...
... such an excellent idea - at first I looked for a Pledge-group, and then asked my friends, and they were so kind and helpful, but I was a bit bewildered still, and at last I understood that you take it by telling on your billboard on your profile page that you did, and at the very last I found out how to manage the billboard and then finally how to put something on it! I'll be happy to assist anyone very slowly and step by step how to do this, if you feel something akin to what I describe here!

"To take the Pledge and show the community that you're opposed to the negativity, simply paste this button to your homepage and on your groups. Let's make care2 fun again!"
I think that your words are used very well here. I would like to pin the Care2 pledge to a group of mine where People might not yet be sure as my intentions.
Thanks for your time to better this world.
Much love to you and all.
(And I did took the pledge a while back... )
(Thanks to Simon that asked me about the pledge today. I owe him a big thanks for asking... )
I think I borrowed those words from Dennis B (Dennis's Place.) I'm sure it's okay for anyone to use them. The whole idea is to spread this concept from one group to another. Please post it in all your goods. It's just a friendly reminder of what we all come here for...
Thanks a lot Archie for your kind words, I blush... you are always the gentleman, and as such the defender and promoter of good causes - I'm happy to be a member of this group where you are active!
All the best for your work, it's greatly appreciated! - warm regards to all who have taken the pledge!

I`ve been trying to sort out my profile page in order to accommodate the care 2 pledge.
I am of course happy to display such a proclamation of my good intent. It`s akin to the Reiki precepts I incorporated when I was initiated into that healing system:
Just for today do not anger
just for today do not worry
honour your parents, elders and teachers.
earn your living honestly
give thanks to every living thing.
I try to live by that creed but I`m sure you`ll let me know If I do fall short of my own standards
I appreciate what you are doing Archie, but I don't see how the pledge or button helps. A lot of people come to Care2 becasue they hate environmentalists/liberals/democrats/etc and want to annoy them. Some of them are paid to do it. Others do it because the right-wing groups they belong to tell them to do it.
They know they are ruining Care2 for a lot of caring, nice people and they will keep doing it because they can't stand it that folks like us have a place where we like to go to and talk together and make the world a better place at.
Most of them will ignore or belittle the pledge, others will take it and keep right on being rude anyway.
Sorry to be so negative. I wish I had a solution but I don't.

All you have to do is copy the image from this thread, and post it on your Billboard on your home page to let everyone know where you stand. There are instructions on how to do that earlier in the thread, and Doris has offered to help anyone who's having a hard time figuring it out.
Greg, I understand what you're saying. Posting an emblem on our home pages and in our groups is not going to cause the nasty people to turn over a new leaf. But I think it's a positive breeze blowing around care2, and it can make people pause and consider a little bit...
I just did it to remind myself to behave better, and it seems to have resonated in this group more than I ever expected that it would. As I've said before, we do not have problems in this group. But as we go out and about, let us be ambassadors of good behavior. I think that is really needed on care2....
I took the pledge. I have seen spamming and trollish behavior (basicly people trying to escalate pettiness or degrade meaningful arguements into free-for-alls through various means), but have had the luck of not seeing much worse. People like that feed off of negative attention.

i took the pledge..and i even do the environment thing like walk or ride my bicycle if i'm going a short distance..and it gets hot down here in naples..but i still do it..(i may get a little sweaty but i think it's worth it..sure hope the people i visit think that too..haha)

I haven't myself experienced anything but quite a few people have mentioned it in some of the other groups I have been in. Thanks for the cut and paste info--it helps! I still have difficulty sometimes getting pictures where I want them. I need to do some experimenting until I learn.
Just wanted to thank Thomas for the picture of him and the ducks...took the pledge and this is what we are all about! I am so glad that Archie invited me to join this group!!
I have taken the plege and I totally agree..It will be posted on my page as well. We are here to be positive and pro-active!! Thank you for taking a stand on this -deb

I'm having a slow moment... I was seeing these pledges on people's profiles and was wondering where they came from... then I investigated this thread in a group to which I already belonged and !Voila!
This is great! Thanks! I'm posting on my page right now! I love to spread the word and set a good example!

I have taken the pledge, but would have anyway, especially about treating the earth with respect, and especially after reading an article on MSNBC this morning about how by the year 2050, we will need 2 earths because of the rate we are using up sustainable resources and depleting everything else in sight.
I treat people with courtesy and respect anyway, but consider it an honor to re-pledge that here.
Maybe my outlook will be poorly received October 25, 2006 9:04 AM
but I too believe in those values and in treating people with kindness, but don't you find it just a little disheartening that we have to pledge .. and ask others to pledge, that we should be reasonable and accepting of others viewpoints, when we should do it simply because its the right thing to do??
[send green star]
I look at it as a personal reminder. I know that I don't always live up to the ideals expressed in the pledge, but whenever I see it on my page or on someone else's, it reminds me to try harder....
thank you for inviting me. I came to care2 about 3 years ago and thought the place would be a place like this. So I took the pledge when making the descison to join care2. I think the idea is great and I will put the picture on my homepage too. All in all I think that care2 is on a journey too with lots of learning experiences and I belive the negative stuff will vannish soon again.
[send green star]
ROBBI, I do agree with your outlook! But perhaps we have to pledge for this to bring people that do not see things just as we do - = accepting of others viewpoints, when we should do it simply because its the right thing to do??
It takes me to something I learned from my parents, respect the others as much as you want to be respected.
IN FACT THIS PLEDGE IS NOT A CARE2 ONE EXACTLY. DON´T HAVE THE NAME HERE BUT IN THE LINK BELOW ONE CAN SEE WHO WAS THE PERSON THAT FIRST CREATED THE PLEDGE, THE SYMBOL AS IT BEING SHOWN HERE HAVING BEEN STARTED AT THE "MAKING A DIFFERENCE NOW "(= MADNow) GROUP ABOUT ONE YEAR AGO.
TOPIC IS STILL THERE, MORE AND MORE CARE2 FRIENDS TAKING THE PLEDGE, IN A STRONG TRY TO HAVE PEOPLE RESPECTING EACH OTHER.
THIS WAS DONE, IN FACT, AFTER SOME TROUBLING PEOPLE SHOWING UP IN SOME OF CARE2 GROUPS! THE PLEDGE STARTED TO SPREAD...SPREAD...
THOU AGREEING WITH ROBBI AS I STATED IN MY PREVIOUS POSTING, I STILL THINK THIS PLEDGE, HELPS US ALL TO NEVER ROGET : "TRUST = RESPECT".
THANKS!
(IN THE BACK OF THE WORDS IS THE PICTURE (SYMBOL) OF THE MADNow GROUP).
Thank you Nance for inviting me to this group. I took the pledge and also agree that we're all here in Care 2 because we want to give the best of ourselves and as Mother Theresa said ""Love cannot remain by itself-it has no meaning, Love has to be put into action and that action is service... All works of love are works of peace."

Thanks for the invite Archie. I have joined this group and taken the Pledge with honor. I have posted it on My Page Billboard. I look forward in getting to know the people here.

Anyone who doesnt take this pledge shouldn't be here. The community members are a part of care2 so that we can share, care, and make a difference. Anyone who is here for alternate reasons isn't doing anyone a favour
Thank you for the opportunity to help December 05, 2007 5:37 PM
I just wrote to Loralee Johnstone. My email:
Dear Loralee Johnstone,
Your help is needed to protect the Yukon's Three Rivers Wilderness!
I know that you are a very busy woman so I will be brief.
We are living in a crucial time. We can be responsible adults or we can continue to soil our playgrounds.
I wish to be a responsible adult.
I know that you are an intelligent woman. Doesn't Yukon Chamber of Mines president John Witham's words say it all?
"I don't think the spirit and intent of the process was ever to create a public relations or a voting-type environment," Witham said.
"This is an exploration project. This is exploring for metals."
Sincerely,
