Hi.

I guess I should introduce myself.  I am the mother of a beagle, Baulah Mae.  She is a rescue.

There was a birthday party held in honor of her and her 6 puppies who turned one in July and it was wonderful.  HA HA

I have also given a friend of mine, many moons ago, a puppy shower for her first puppy.  We had a blast.  Made a cake in the shape of a bone and got the fake poop to place on the floor so the my girlfriend would have a fit, and she did.  HA HA.  We all had a great time and played pin the tail on the cat ( I know......no letters please..haha).  It was a cardboard cutout we did.  And of course all kinds of presents for the new puppy.

So, that's me in a nutshell.  I live in Florida with hubby and Miss Beulah Mae, have 2 grown children, one in Pa, and the other in N.C. and 3 grandbabies who I miss so much.

If you want to add me to your friends list that's fine.  Some of you I know, and others I hope to get to know.

Hugs

Looks like a friendly bunch of people! Ours is a very mild mannered chow-chow and especially affectionate and loves to be pet. The other day,the veterinarian explained that our chow's white hairs were "old hairs." like "old people.",so I brushed her hair almost half an hour three days in a row. I'd been brushing it every day anyway but finally her honey color hairs are showing out more again. She loves lyeing down and relaxing while being combed.  I know dogs usually eat meat and bones, but can they eat fish mixed into their food since its also protein? She needs some change in taste and aromas.

I'm Tami, growing up a very lonely child, I learned the unconditional love of a horse.  He saw me through thick and thin, was my confident (he never worried and I got it off my chest), and my best friend.  His name was Royal Flight.  Dave and I were in agony over his death.  Then, we were lucky enough to find a shetland sheepdog, Frisky.  I love Dave dearly, but, there was tremendous comfort in Frisky.  I suffered a bout of PTSD, (from my first marriage to an abusive, alchoholic, undercover cop) and he helped through the hard times when Dave was not home.  I swear he knew the exact thing to do to help me through the panic.  He lived a long happy life, and tried to stay living even after having terminal cancer.  He always thought of me first, as did Flight, and his suffering second.  After his death, we found a loving lap dog shetland sheepdog, Bandit, who only wanted to love and be loved.  That help ease the pain over the loss of Frisky.  2 years ago, I found an abandoned 1 week old freezing kitten.   Dave and I were delighted he survived.  He had some injured an eye, and it did not open until he was 2 months old.  Like my self, he has physical and mental scars.  He has taught me the life is not about the pain and the past, there may be scars, the the future is much better, all you need to do is let go and live.

Hello everyone!

This seems like a very nice group.
A short introduction. My name is Erik Sjodin and I live i Gothemburg Sweden. Sorry to say, I don´t have a dog because of my current living situation. Living next to a big road and being away several hours every day is not ideal for a dog. My family has had dogs as long as I can remember (since I was six) so living without one of these wonderful companions is hard. Especially since you know it´ill be a few more years ´till you can aquire a dog. Ha ha ha. But still, good things come to those who wait.
Very nice group icon, seems like many dogowners like to dress up their friends in funny hats and glasses, like me. Luckily for us, our friends are very patience with this. And who knows, maybe they like it.

Hello, I am very new to Care2 and  I already know I love this group.

I use to do Pekingese Rescue until my son was injured and my life was changed forever.  I now have 2 Pekes, 1 Terrier , a Pug and 12 exotic parrots. I have always loved animals. My dogs are all spayed and neutered and I strongly support this action with all dogs and cats. I have very strong feelings about breeders , such as Puppy Mills, unfortunately, I live in Missouri and the  Puppy Mills are a real problem here. Thanks for having this wonderful group of caring folks.

It sickens me to read some of these horror stories--but somehow, I feel our voices are being heard through the petitions we all sign.

Keep those Petitions coming---Hugs--"Carol"

Hi Denise and Jean!  I haven't been a member long, but I love to come in here and read all the different things everyone is doing.  I sometimes have a hard time dealing with the abuse I read about, but love to sign the petitions because I feel I am working for a serious, worthwhile cause and making a difference.

So welcome, and hope you enjoy and have lots of fun!

Since the Care2 Board shut down the Sheltie Lover's topic due to lack of traffic, I've moved over here. I've also asked our few (4) members if they want to move over here and be social, since we've "homeless" now.

My wife and I are involved in Sheltie Rescue with Northern VA Sheltie Rescue (www.NVSR.org)
and we are currently owned by four Shelties and an immense Siamese cat. Three of our four Shelties are rescues that we 'selfishly' kept for ourselves (LOL We're "foster flunkies!"). Our old Sheltie Rescue was shut down when we had to move to the East Coast for employment. (www.geocities.com/WalksWithShelties) The slack was taken up by a local all-breed rescue group.

I am a former employee of Air Wisconsin/United Express, Independence Air and MAXjet Airways, currently looking for a technical writing/editing job or a job in a different field. I live in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia (huh?) and would love to move back to MO where our kids and grandkids live.

Hello everyone. Glad to meet you all.

I am a dog lover. Actually, I love all animals. I wish I could protect them all from so-called humanity. Too much cruelty in the world.

I currently have a one year old Golden Retriever. Such a wonderful creature! She is the light of my life.

I am glad to have found a place such as this that is filled with wonderful caring people.

Hi there everyone! This is Karli here from Malaysia! I've been a member of care2 since 1998 but i've only explored the site recently..i'm amazed at how much it has changed since then!

I've got 3 doggies at home, an Irish Setter and two sikies, all given to my family. Our first dog, Duchess, a terrier mix was rescued from a pound but she has recently died of kidney failure. she was only 8 years old. we were all heartbroken. another terrier, Toffee died of an accident 2 years back, so we currently only have her brother and mother (Boy and Sandie, respectively). Hunter the Setter is pretty lonely without Duchess around now.

I'm happy to be part of your family and hope to interact more soon! take care and happy new year!

Hi everyone!

I have had a rescued dog now for about 8 years. He was very abused when I got him. He would not let me pet his head. But, after alot of loving, he is a very sweet and loving animal. He was very hard to socialize with other animals.  That took alot of patience, and training.  I love the dog whisper show.  I have learned alot from it. I look forward to being part of this group.

GOD Bless!

Hi all,

I've recently just joined Care2 and am still working on introducing myself to the members of my groups. Forgive the delay, please.

My fiance' and I own a 160 acre dairy farm and have several animals besides our cows and chickens. Our all-adoptee house-mates are our two terriers, Bonnie, who is 5 years old, a scottish terrier and our little "clown".  Daisy, a mixed breed terrier (schnauzer/westie) who is going to be 17 this June and who is top dog eventhough she's the smallest of the 3...she just knows she's the boss. She's traveled with me all over the place since she was very small and has been my one true constant companion since the day I brought her home at 8 weeks old. And Rose, our border collie/ blue healer mix who will be 1 year old Feb. 17th! They share their house with 3 cats, Willow, Darla, and Cleo and they take very good care of their kitties.

I'll share pictures at some point of our little sweeties.

Until later!

Peace.

Beth

Beth, That's quite a brood you have there! I wish you and your fiance the very best with your dairy farm. Which state do you live in? I knew some dairy farmers in Maine and know what a tough go it is to keep these farms going. I am sure your loyal doggies and kitties are a welcome sight at the end of a long day. Peace, Kaeli

Thank you, Kaeli. Yes, we have our hands full, to say the least. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

We are in Wisconsin....and it's FREEZING cold here right now! Our well quit on us this afternoon on top of an already full list of things not going according to plan. lol. But it does come with the territory. We have a guy on his way to fix the well problem as I'm typing this...so I'm off for yet another fun filled night of moos and who knows what!

Hi I'm Amanda and have been with Care2 for a few weeks now.  I have to say I love this group. I have a 6 yr. old German shepard Chow mix. He is a beautiful and loyal man, my one true love lol. I have always loved dogs and was exstatic when my Dad's german shepard had puppies and I finally got mine. Bear the best dog I could have asked for
well oh well

Kaeli,

Actually, it turned out to be not the well at all, but a relatively easy issue with the pressure tank, which is inside the barn, so no one had to work outside in this freezing cold to fix it!

We were so relieved.

***************

Hello Angela,

I'm very sorry to hear about your rotty. I hope he/she didn't suffer.

I love your avatar picture. I used to have a peacock until we moved from Minnesota to Wisconsin and decided to leave him on the old farm with the people who'd bought the place rather than put him through the shock of a huge move like that. We didn't think it fair, and I guess I figured he was better off staying where he was familiar with his surroundings. I miss him a lot sometimes, though. Getting another one isn't an option because I don't buy animals. He was meant to be in our life for the time he was there after he just showed up one day from out of "nowhere".

I LOVE DOGS TOO!!!

I'm unable to create a profile or even see yours and send green stars because I'm living the Middle East at the moment and many pages have been blocked by the government. I’m still trying to figure something out in order to post a little doggie picture at least.

My first dog was a beautiful Cocker Spaniel; I don’t think any of my other animals loved me as much as he did. His name was Sand

My second dog is a three years old Bullterrier, he is the most noble loving sweet, dangerous looking dog I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, I couldn’t bring him with me and I miss him dearly but the thought of him puts a happy smile on my face.

Hugs to all the dog lovers.

Pets are for LIFE....

A man in Grand Rapids, Michigan incredibly took out a $7000 full page
ad in the paper to present the following essay to the people of his
community.
HOW COULD YOU? By Jim Willis, 2001
When I was a puppy, I entertained you with my antics and made you
laugh. You called me your child, and despite a number of chewed shoes
and a couple of murdered throw pillows, I became your best friend.
Whenever I was "bad," you'd shake your finger at me and ask "How could
you?" -- but then you'd relent and roll me over for a belly rub.

My housebreaking took a little longer than expected, because you were
terribly busy, but we worked on that together. I remember those nights
of nuzzling you in bed and listening to your confidences and secret
dreams, and I believed that life could not be any more perfect.
We went for long walks and runs in the park, car rides, stops for ice
cream (I only got the cone because "ice cream is bad for dogs" you
said), and I took long naps in the sun waiting for you to come home at
the end of the day.

Gradually, you began spending more time at work and on your career,
and more time searching for a human mate. I waited for you patiently,
comforted you through heartbreaks and disappointments, never chided
you about bad decisions, and romped with glee at your homecomings, and
when you fell in love.
She, now your wife, is not a "dog person" -- still I welcomed her into
our home, tried to show her affection, and obeyed her. I was happy
because you were happy. Then the human babies came along and I shared
your excitement. I was fascinated by their pinkness, how they smelled,
and I wanted to mother them, too. Only she and you worried that I
might hurt them, and I spent most of my time banished to another room,
or to a dog crate.

Oh, how I wanted to love them, but I became a "prisoner of love." As
they began to grow, I became their friend. They clung to my fur and
pulled themselves up on wobbly legs, poked fingers in my eyes,
investigated my ears, and gave me kisses on my nose. I loved
everything about them and their touch -- because your touch was now so
infrequent -- and I would've defended them with my life if need be. I
would sneak into their beds and listen to their worries and secret
dreams, and together we waited for the sound of your car in the
driveway. There had been a time, when others asked you if you had a
dog, that you produced a photo of me from your wallet and told them
stories about me.
These past few years, you just answered "yes" and changed the subject.
I had gone from being "your dog" to "just a dog," and you resented
every expenditure on my behalf. Now, you have a new career opportunity
in another city, and you and they will be moving to an apartment that
does not allow pets. You've made the right decision for your "family,"
but there was a time when I was your only family

I was excited about the car ride until we arrived at the animal
shelter. It smelled of dogs and cats, of fear, of hopelessness. You
filled out the paperwork and said "I know you will find a good home
for her." They shrugged and gave you a pained look. They understand
>  the realities facing a middle-aged dog, even one with "papers." You
had to pry your son's fingers loose from my collar as he screamed "No,
Daddy! Please don't let them take my dog!" And I worried for him, and
what lessons you had just taught him about friendship and loyalty,
about love and responsibility, and about respect for all life.
You gave me a good-bye pat on the head, avoided my eyes, and politely
refused to take my collar and leash with you. You had a deadline to
meet and now I have one, too. After you left, the two nice ladies said
you probably knew about your upcoming move months ago and made no
attempt to find me another good home. They shook their heads and asked
 "How could you?"

They are as attentive to us here in the shelter as their busy
schedules allow. They feed us, of course, but I lost my appetite days
ago. At first, whenever anyone passed my pen, I rushed to the front,
hoping it was you that
you had changed your mind -- that this was all a bad dream... or I
hoped it would at least be someone who cared, anyone who might save
me.

When I realized I could not compete with the frolicking for attention
of happy puppies, oblivious to their own fate, I retreated to a far
corner and waited. I heard her footsteps as she came for me at the end
of the day, and I padded along the aisle after her to a separate room.
A blissfully quiet room. She placed me on the table and rubbed my
ears, and told me not to worry. My heart pounded in anticipation of
what was to come, but there was also a sense of relief. The prisoner
of love had run out of days.
As is my nature, I was more concerned about her. The burden which she
bears weighs heavily on her, and I know that, the same way I knew your
every mood. She gently placed a tourniquet around my foreleg as a tear
ran down her cheek. I licked her hand in the same way I used to
comfort you so many years ago. She expertly slid the hypodermic needle
into my vein. As I felt the sting and the cool liquid coursing through
my body, I lay down sleepily, looked into her kind eyes and murmured
"How could you?"

Perhaps because she understood my dog speak, she said "I'm so sorry."
She hugged me, and hurriedly explained it was her

 job to make sure I
went to a better place, where I wouldn't be ignored or abused or
abandoned, or have to fend for myself -- a place of love and light so
very different from this earthly place. And with my last bit of
energy, I tried to convey to her with a thump of my tail that my "How
could you?" was not directed at her.
It was directed at you, My Beloved Master, I was thinking of you. I
will think of you and wait for you forever. May everyone in your life
continue to show you so much loyalty.

I know i am new, and dont know much about the group at all. My friend sent me this and it made me cry. I didnt want to post it to make anyone sad.. or turn emotions up, but just to post to maybe someone can post at a vets office, other boards, email and tell. Who Knows, it may just save a life or two

Hi-My dog Jack was killed by animal control in the
city of Merced Ca. I have owned dogs, mostly springers and mastiffs for thirty years. I love dogs
and this is a nice group. I want the word to get
out that this city is barbaric and I will post more
about these ignorant, horrible and sadistic people
later. I hope it never happens to you because if they
decide they want your dog dead you will lose unless
you have five thousand dollars to file a motion.

That's what keeps me in Rescue
Those are the kind of stories that keep me in Sheltie Rescue, Jessee. Thank you so much for sharing. I wish that we could afford to do more, but there's so many that need help and resources are so scarce. We just remind ourselves that "We can't save them all, but we can save THIS one!" That was the motto of our old (now closed because we had to move) Rescue. See www.geocities.com/WalksWithShelties
We now are members of www.NVSR.org and do what we can with what we have.

Three of our four Shelties are rescued dogs that we kept for ourselves. Sometimes, I think that I can see their gratitude when I look deep into their brown eyes.

Hi Stephanie

I certainly would. My wife and I have been in Sheltie Rescue for about six years. Some of what we have seen has shaken our faith in the goodness of Humanity, and has literally made two grownups cry.

We can definitely agree with those that say that they have more friends on four legs than on two.

I love the name beulah-or is it always beulah mae? My dog is
named after a character in a Scottish soap opera Monarch of
the Glen-maybe some of you have seen it. Golly was a very
taciturn gameskeeper and lover of the land, hence I named
by pup after him.
Heartwrenching "Pets are for Life" posting

The poem Jessee O. printed is well done and gives the dogs a voice. Just remember, though: the human decisions are not always callous. I made a gut-wrenching decision to part with a dog I loved very much. She had a health issue which had cost me $1200 in a very short time, and was facing the need for an $1800 MRI that I could not afford. I tried to find a home for her with someone who could do well by her, but how many people want a cute little dog who is pooping on the floor, has an undiagnosed chronic illness and is chewing holes in the floor and walls? I could not do it any longer. I brought her to an animal shelter and I question myself over and over about it. I loved Rosie with all my heart, but she was a dog, and I could not afford to give up my basic needs for her. I know there are many people who see hope and cuteness and in a new puppy..and then bail. But it isn't always that simple. I still picture my little Rosie when they put her in that cage, her looking up at me. It was not my wish to abandon her. I still grieve and only hope it will get easier.
Re: [Dog Lovers] Introduction

I'm sorry to say this but your dog was probably terrified being left in a filthy shelter. Why didn't you at least have the decency to hold her while a vet put her to sleep. I would spend my last dime on my dog because my dogs will die for me in a heart beat. Obviously, your dog is far more noble than you. 57 messages in this topic | post via the web | start a topic via the web Group Links home | announcements | discussions | host shares | member shares | members email reply: doglovers-549034-654826@groups.care2.com email post: doglovers@groups.care2.com email owner: doglovers-owner@groups.care2.com email unsubscribe: doglovers-unsubscribe@groups.care2.com Karen K. Hi everyone. My name is Lisbeth.I am very happily owned by two sighthounds.Mike my four year old whippet and Connor my rescued ex-racing greyhound and lets not forget Chris my wee parakeet.I am involved with trying to rescue galgoes from spain and greyhounds anywhere they are being mistreated exployted and killed long before their time.I am against greyhound racing. Simply because these nobel sighthounds run for their lives on those cursed tracks. My own greyhound was a victim of the racing industry. He was found starving to death, dumped by his former owner or the gypsies who stole him from his breeder.Once a dog has been stolen in Spain it is regarded as garbage. My Connor was lucky he had chosen to die right in front of the maingate of the royal palace in Madrid. No one could ignore his plight. So he was rescued. Two months later I picked him up at the airport in Copenhagen.Connor and mike love each other and I love these two precious souls very deeply.greyhounds changed my life forever for the better.I just wish that more people realised what absolute brilliant family members greyhounds make if you let them into your heart and home. They do not deserve to die long before their time as the majority of them do. Not always humanely.Connor was one of the lucky few who survived the racing industry.I hope that manny more will get to have their very own family as well. lots of love and light from Lisbeth Mønsted Larsen in Denmark.Ps I will be moving to a bigger flat where they will allow me to keep two more dogs than I currently have. The day we move to more greyhounds will be comming home to make our family complete.
Karen and her Decision
First of all, Karen, thanks you for sharing what had to be a terrible decision. I'm glad that you feel comfortable enough to share it here.

Though I have not done that personally, I can appreciate the grief that you and your dog went through. Sometimes, there is no good answer.

To Stephanie, I ask: What else should she have done? There are few places (like Best Friends in Utah) that would take an unadoptable dog for life. She could not carry on with the situation as it stood. Most shelters would have put her dog down as soon as she walked out the door, as they simply don't have the resources to keep a dog like that for the rest of her life. The only other alternative would be for Karen to have taken her dog for euthanization herself.

I've been present for several euthanizations for Shelties that were just too riddled with cancer to survive and were suffering horribly, or were terminally ill. I cried and held them as they were put out of their agony. Some people simply can't do that...they can't take it. Perhaps Karen wanted to give her dog a chance, however small, of survival.

The one time we had an issue like this, it was with our elderly cat that got so senile that she quit using the litter, no matter how fresh it was. Her physical health was fine, but her mind was gone. We were lucky enough to find a shelter for "retired cats" that would take her for us and let her live out her days for a fat fee. We paid it gladly and let her go into kitty retirement. There are few places like that.

Ultimately, though I would not have done what Karen did, I do back her in her decision. She did the best she could in a moral dilemma. "Judge not, lest ye be judged."

I would never leave an animal in a shelter not knowing and I have had to put down all of my dogs at the end. But I was always there. Always. If you cannot afford medical care you should not take an animal into your life. Period. That is human decency. I do not think that is even debatable. Greyhound rescue is huge in the U.S. A mate breed sighthounds and my girlfriends elderly mother had a greyhound that never left her side. They are lovely dogs. But runners if the door cracks open so be care ful. Hi, I'm new here.

I'm new to this group.  I'm the momma of 2 rescues (Ginger & Freddie) & auntie to my sister's 2 rescues (Scrappy & Sofia) in CA, so I'm a big advocate of rescue groups.

A colleague from GMS knew I was still grieving over the loss of our family Maltese (my brother Spunky) & said he was fostering the perfect dog for me...Ginger was rescued as a one year old (then 5 lbs, now 7 lb) in WV.  She's a Maltese & Yorkie (alpha female), but thinks she's a cat.  We think it's b/c my colleague's wife was also fostering cats & had a Dalmatian, whose back she would climb onto & sleep.  "Baby G" likes to pace along the back of the sofa & rule the roost from the highest perch (normally a pile of pillows). When we first met, she immediately greeted me w/ a happy tail & flipped onto her back for a tummy rub.  She climbed onto my lap & grrr grrr'd when any of the other foster dogs & cats came near me...so I like to think that she chose me.

About 10 months later, we rescued Freddie.  He's a cool calm "omega male".  We know that he was abandoned in a dumpster & was about to be put down after 2 weeks in the shelter b/c of lack of space.  Luckily, a former colleague from NBC knew we were looking for a brother for Ginger.  She also volunteered at this shelter in MD for many years & works w/ rescue groups.  She contacted me after finding Freddie a foster home.  He was terribly matted, infested w/ fleas, had kennel cough & tape worm!  He didn't know how to walk on a leash (resisted any direction we tried), refused to walk on grass & was missing a few bottom teeth & occasionally fell asleep while sitting.  His remaining teeth are grounded down, so the vet thinks either he tried eating rocks or was trying to chew out of a kennel.  Now, Freddie Bear has cleaned up really well, walks on a leash behind Ginger, has learned a couple of tricks (dance, sit, paw & kiss) & will now stick up for himself when necessary.

Thanks for letting me do a little parental bragging that only other pet owners will allow!

Paws out,

Christina

Stephanie, You do not know me, and you obviously missed the entire point of my posting. Only my friends, family and vets know the circumstances that caused me to bring Rosie to a shelter. For starters, she was to be picked up by a Shih tzu rescue and when I got to the shelter (which was spotlessly clean, by the way), they whisked her away. I was hysterical. When I got home, I found out the rescue organization had run out of room and could not take her. When I contacted the shelter, they refused to respond. I have endured great grief over this, and you might be wise to think before you judge someone for their actions. There are many other factors that I will not waste my time explaining to you, given your attitude. When you heard the voice inside you that said "I'm sorry to say this," perhaps you should not have. Next time you decide to judge someone in public like this, how about asking a few questions first? K. Kaeli

Gregg, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your posting about my decision. I cried until 1 a.m. last night over Stephanie's posting. Not that I should have to explain my decision to bring Rosie to a shelter any further, but sometimes our circumstances change and we can't be the heroes we want to. I could not bear the emotion of having her put down. I was already reeling with having to give up my house as I live in Florida, and due to the hurricanes 2 1/2 years ago, my insurance and tax increases drove my house payment up by $350. a month. In the past 12 months I have lost my beloved dog...and now my house is due to be foreclosed on. I am about to file for bankruptcy and last week, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I share this not to ask for a pity party, but to illustrate how wrong we can be when we judge. I do it, too. We are all human. I did what I did with Rosie and was told that there are many, many people willing and financially able to take on a cute small dog with medical and behavioral problems. Enough said. Thank you so much for making the effort to respond and offer your support, Gregg. I am going to try to give this website another chance and hope that we all will have learned something here. In the future, I hope that the website owner will let Stephanie know that verbal attacks are not acceptable here. She not only ruined my night last night, but has upset several other people too. Sign me, Small dog lover trying to take the high road in Florida

Dear Karen.I may be very new here.however you have my deepest sympathy over the loss of Rosie.Unfortunately this is what we face when we devote our lives to our four legged family members.lots of love and light from Lisbeth in Denmark. Dear Stephanie.there is absolutely no need to repeat your answer.I am a university student and capabel of understanding a message the first time it has been written. The sighthounds I have are as follows: Mike four year old blue and white Whippet. Connor three year old rescued ex-racing greyhound in latin Canis Familiarus Gradus wich means the first breed among dogs.I like all sighthounds including Italian greyhound. However I have never known them to be fragile quite the opposit. They are hardy little dogs despite their fragile appearence.Their histories is almost as ancient as that of the regal greyhound.Ps I forgot to tell you that my Connor is 28 and a half inch in shoulder height. and a stunning reddish brindel with lovely dark brown eyes.he was found starving to death dumped by his former owner.however his royal highness is thriving and deeply loved by everyone who knows him and the same can be said about Mike.please don`t take anything  that I write to be anything more than information. What sighthounds do you have? lots of love and light from Lisbeth mike and Connor the rescued ex-racing greyhound.ps.Thank you so much for your kind welcome and the information and please excuse my writing as I am studying for exams and thus have a lot on my mind. you might say that I am overloaded for the foreseeabel future.Take care all of you and thank you for letting me joining in this wonderful group.

Lots of love and light to you and your family in this dark hour. From Lisbeth in Denmark a special greeting from Connor the rescued ex-racing greyhound and Mike the loving whippet and Chris the old parakeet.

New To site/ Karen's Decision

Hi My name is Julie and I am new to this site. I am looking forward to meeting new friends here, I only have one dog now - a long haired Chihuahua named Goldie who is 2 years old now and the love of my life. Sort of my baby I guess as I have lost my two sons over the years and my mum passed away in October last year as well.

In regards to Karen's decision : I am not sure of the whole story Re: Karen's decision but I just wanted to say , I have to face some very difficult decisions in my life similar to hers, regarding the well being / welfare of my animals. I know how hard it is to have to face those things let alone make gut wrenching decisions, but sometimes we have no other option no matter how hard it is. Just over 11 years ago I had to make a decision to have my beloved 10 year old German Shepherd put to sleep, due to his health deteriorating rapidly to the point of  liver, kidney, heart failure etc & the vets held no hope for him, I did not want to lose him but I did not want him to suffer anymore. It was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make, broke my heart, but had no other choice in the end. That grief was made harder by judging, criticism of others not understanding, and also the death of my son 2 months later they were the best of friends - inseperable since 'Prince' was a tiny puppy of 7 weeks - rescued from a place of total neglect! Took 2 baths, flea treatment etc, before I relized he was not black/brown but brown/tan & white! Sorry I am not trying not to sound critical I was just trying to say I have been in the same place of many others who have had to make heart wrenching decisions to place dogs/ cats in refuges etc, due to circumstances beyond our control so I for one will try my darndest not to judge or criticize anyone in Karen's or anyone elses position. I've been there - know what it's like and how it feels! It is hard enough going through agonizing decisions, and the grief etc, associated with it without being subject to harsh words or treatment by others. I know how that feels and although I am not Karen I understand where she is coming from and my heart goes out to her. To Karen I say try to take no notice of others opinions, no one else has the right to judge or criticize you for any reason. I know you had your reasons you did the very best you could under the circumstances. God knows your heart and your circumstances. May He truly bless you and help you. Just wanted to let you know I am here to support you as a friend and fellow dog/animal lover, should you ever need me.

Kind words

Dear Lisbeth, You have a beautiful name and your kind words were a great way to end my day. I think all this discussion is really helping me to put my guilt and pain behind me. I will always feel sadness about losing my Rosie, but thanks to you and others who have written to support me, I know that I am beginning to move on. Blessings,Karen Kaeli
My decision, your support

Julie, Thank you with all my heart for your kind and understanding words. I feel embraced by the support you and others have given and that has given me the courage to let myself grieve instead of feeling paralyzed by guilt and denial. I am here for you, too, if you need an ear! I have a tender heart and I'm learning to toughen up a bit and use my sadness to reach out and hear others's stories. Love & peace to you, Karen (Kaeli)

Dear karen.thank you for your words they make my heart sing in gratitude.I lost my nine months old whippet puppy two years ago.I still miss him.No familymember can ever replace another.Alex had to be put to sleep. He had been diagnosed with a cerebral tumor.Nothing could be done to help him execpt to let him go with love. However I had a new life to look forward to, that helped me through the despair and paralysing grief.Besides I had Mike my other whippet to take care of he too missed Alex.I contacted Galgoes in need Denmark and asked them if they would let me adopt a sighthound through them.I got the green lights. The twenty second of March 2005 I went to the Airport in Copenhagen to pick up my new family member.I met the secon in command of the galgoes in need and signed the adoption papers. Then she showed me a picture of my new sighthound. The first thing i said was this is not a galgo but a greyhound. Then he and another dog came through customs. When he tumbled out of his crate it was love at first sight. This was almost two years ago.Since then a lot of things has happend.I found out who Connors sire is/was.Connor and Mike love each other and I love my lads more than anything in this world.I will be moving to a new place where they will allow me to keep two more sighthounds. That day two more greyhounds will be joining our little family.Connor is an ex-racing greyhound he was found starving to death and was lucky enough to survive.however I am very happy to have given him a home. Thanks to the gift of love that Alex left with us, by sharing this gift with our Connor and others it keeps growing and fills me with joy and gratitude for having known Alex even if the time was way too short we shared it and it has grown. Karen one day you might feel the same.Know that I care and am here if you need me. lots of love and light to you and yours.Julia if you ever need someone i am only a klick away. It is through grief that we learn and grow as people it is through grief that we learn how precious life realy is.It is through sharing that we learn that we are loved and abel to share that love with others it is through that love we become truely human and friends.it is our understanding and love that is the gift left for us by those that went before we did for them the time will seem short for us it will be a lifetime. However in that life time we can make a diffrence for others. It is the bond we share it is what brings us together to make a diffrence. You have both made a diffrence in my life and I thank you.lots of love and light from Lisbeth  and the lads.

That's what we are here for Karen Last year my parents had to have Barley, their 12 year old American Staffordshire Terrier PTS. She had vestibular disease and suffered multiple strokes. At the end she couldn't even walk and my mom had to carry her outside to go potty. I grew up with Barley, she was like a sister to me. This is a poem that really helped me, it is sad, but kind of happy too.

ROOM IN YOUR HEART

Sorrow fills a barren space;
you close your eyes and see my face
and think of times I made you laugh,
the love we shared, the bond we had,
the special way I needed you -
the friendship shared by just we two.
The day's too quiet, the world seems older,
the wind blows now a little colder.
You gaze into the empty air
and look for me, but I'm not there -
I'm in heaven and I watch you,
and I see the world around you too.
I see little souls wearing fur,
souls who bark and souls who purr
born unwanted and unloved -
I see all this and more above -
I watch them suffer, I see them cry,
I see them lost, I watch them die.
I see unwanted thousands born -
and when they die, nobody mourns.
These little souls wearing fur
(Some who bark and some who purr)
are castaways who - unlike me -
will never know love or security.
A few short months they starve and roam,
Or caged in shelters - nobody takes home.
They're special too (furballs of pleasure),
filled with love and each one, a treasure.
My pain and suffering came to an end,
so don't cry for me, my person, my friend.
But think of the living -
those souls with fur
(some who bark and some who purr) -
And though our bond can't be broken apart,
make room for another in your home and
your heart.

Libeth, You are a light in the world. I am so sorry about the loss of your puppy and am glad that you have your sighthound menagerie coming! You are right; it is sometimes through grief that we find others in love and light. We all need that light. There is so much war and sadness...and people and puppy dogs suffering in the world. We all need to try hard to accept one another without judgment...in that unconditional love that our dear dogs give us! Kristen, thank you for your sweet words! Peace to all, Karen Kaeli

Hello to everyone~  thought I'd drop in and say "Hi". Today my puppy (LOL) turns 3 so we're gonna celebrate by heading to the shoreline and chase some seagulls, its in the 70's here. On a personal note, Karen, I'm soooo sorry to hear about your dog. My mom had to put her little one to sleep (she was 14) after several seizures had left her in too much pain. She couldn't move, all she did was cry. It was horrible. We stayed with her and my mom requested the ashes so she could have her close always. Its expensive to own a pet, which is why I think she took on the animal insurance. It actually does cut down on some of the expenses.   Losing a pet leaves a hole, just like losing a part of yourself. I'm  sure  that  Rosie is in "summerland", free of pain. Blessing to all ~ Dusty~

a little poem..........

When I am old...
I will wear soft gray sweatshirts. ..
and a bandana over my silver hair.....
and I will spend my social security checks on wine and my dogs.

I will sit in my house on my well-worn chair and listen to my dogs breathing.

I will sneak out in the middle of a warm summer night and take my dogs for a run,
if my old bones will allow...

When people come to call, I will smile and nod as I show them my dogs...
and talk of them and about them...
....the ones so beloved of the past and the ones so beloved of today....

I will still work hard cleaning after them,
mopping and feeding them and whispering their names in a soft loving way.

I will wear the gleaming sweat on my throat,
like a jewel and I will be an embarrassment to all...
especially my family...
who have not yet found the peace in being free to have dogs as your best friends....

These friends who always wait, at any hour, for your footfall...
and eagerly jump to their feet out of a sound sleep, to greet you as if you are a God.

With warm eyes full of adoring love and hope that you will always stay,

I'll hug their big strong necks...
I'll kiss their dear sweet heads...
and whisper in their very special company....

I look in the Mirror...
and see I am getting old....
this is the kind of person I am...
and have always been.

Loving dogs is easy,
they are part of me.

Please accept me for who I am.

My dogs appreciate my presence in their lives...
they love my presence in their lives......

When I am old this will be important to me...
you will understand when you are old....
if you have dogs to love too.

I'm new to the group and just wanted to say hi! I have a 13 yr. old Mini Schnauzer named Buddy. (He's named for Buddy Holly, but how that came about is a LONG story!) He's been with me since he was 9 weeks old, and has helped me through some hard times and shared my joy in good times. He's showing some signs of slowing down with age, but still loves to play and go for walks and rides in the car!

From what I've read I think this group is great! Hope everyone is doing well!

My info is in my profile if anyone cares to look. How ever I have a more inportant matter to bring up.

Forgive me for posting this here, but this will affect those living in California.  I couldn't think of any better way to get the word out. Please help, this is going to hurt both Dog and Cat lovers. Do you want to lose your pets? A bill is in the works as thus:

BILL NUMBER: AB 1634 INTRODUCED
BILL TEXT

INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Levine
(Principal coauthor: Senator Padilla)
(Coauthor: Assembly Member Nava)

FEBRUARY 23, 2007

An act to add Chapter 9 (commencing with Section 122336) to Part 6
of Division 105 of the Health and Safety Code, relating to pets.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

AB 1634, as introduced, Levine. California Healthy Pets Act.
Existing law sets forth provisions relating to veterinary public
health and safety and provides for or regulates spay, neuter, and
breeding programs for animals.
This bill would prohibit any person from owning or possessing any
unaltered cat or dog over the age of 4 months, unless that person
possesses an intact permit, as specified.
The bill would establish an
intact permit fee in an amount to be determined by a local
jurisdiction, as defined, and would require the revenue from these
fees to be used for the administration of the local jurisdiction' s
permit program. The bill would make a violation of these provisions
punishable by a prescribed fine.
The bill would require all revenues derived from these fines to be
used for funding free and low-cost spay and neuter programs, and
outreach efforts for these programs, which would be required to be
established by each local animal control agency, to the extent that
funding is available, and for the enforcement of these provisions.
By increasing the enforcement responsibility of local agencies,
this bill would create a state-mandated local program.
The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local
agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the
state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that
reimbursement.
This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this
act for a specified reason.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes.
State-mandated local program: yes.

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

Hello! It took me a while to come over and introduce myself and my sweet Malibu - My name is Chris Im here in Colorado and I LOVE dogs but I especially love my sweet girl Malibu who we believe is a mixed Border Collie and Huskie - Oh she's precious and apparently her first owners abused her terribly as it has taken her 2 years to really trust us. She actually was my exhusband's roomate's dog and his roomate abused her terribly as well, thats when I took it into my own hands and brought Malibu to our house where we couldn't have dogs as we rented at the time. I didn't care and couldn't allow the abuse to continue.

She is of course a part of our family just as my 4 boys are - I couldn't imagine my life without her! She has her bed right under my computer desk where I am alot - in fact she's there right now as I'm speaking! I have some pics but I think there is a post where I can post her pic there.

Of course I love all animals dearly but I just can't help love dogs - We tend to get alot of lost or stray dogs come to our door lol

I look forward to knowing everyone and their beloved doggies!!

Lots of puppy love!

Chris

Hello,

As you see my name is Audry, I am the PROUD owner/mommy of   4   APBT's  & one pit X, 2 of my dogs are rescues.  I love my furbabies dearly & will fight the bad rap they get to the death!! I believe that BSL sucks but I do abide by it because it is in place where I live and if I did not I would be placing myself in the standards of a poor and worthless owner! I do not agree with many peoples views on the APBT but will always listen to other peoples views & reasons. I am learing new things about this breed every single day! I work full-time & I help at a rescue also. I am trying to open my own rescue within the next 2 years and  have already started my move on this but I am not rushing as I want to do it right!!

I love all dogs & all animals for that matter. I hope to learn from all of you & I hope that you can also learn from me.

hi i'm new to the group.  i am a dog over and would like to learn more about them 9i'm sure i'm in the right place for that).  sadly i am not a dog owner though i would like to be in the future.  i would like to be more financially stable before i go and get a dog, because i want to be able to give him or her all that they need.  i am really interested on in the toy breeds because..... well i don't know why really i'm just really attracted to them and since i live in an apartment a toy breed would be perfect!  since i have plenty of time before i will be in the market i have decided to do my research so that me and my pooch will be a perfect match.  what do you all think?  where should i start?  how did you pick the dog(s) that you now have?  what special considerations should a first time dog owner be concerned about?

Dear Benita.Welcome among us.Deciding on having  a dog in your life is a big step.Eventhough you will never regret it once you are there.Picking the right dog can be difficult. However I sugest you get one from your local shelter or a breed spesific rescue. So manny needy dogs are left in shelters through no fault of their own.Besides dogs from shelters are vacinated spayed or neutered.Wich will cut the costs considerably. aquiring your first canine is saying hello to an individual that will never judge you and love you no matter what.Take your time and read as manny books about dogs as you can. Pick a dog after the following criterias. Your own diposition, what do you want from a dog? What can you offer a dog in return? Remember it is not always a question of space. It is more a question of love and acceptence from your side than anything else. You might consider a greyhound they are easy to keep and lazy indoors and out. They don`t need a lot of exercise they are very clean in every way and manny of them need a home. Too manny young healthy greyhounds are destroyed anually just because they are not fast enough for their greedy owners. You might consider looking into that side of things. The following website will explain everything you ever wanted to know about these most nobel of sighthounds surpreme atheletes with the most loving hearts of any breed that I know of. www.greyhoundaction.org.uk There is a lot of toybreed rescues as well. best wishes and best of luck from Lisbeth in Denmark and from Mike whippet and Connor the rescued ex-racing greyhound.Ps we live in a small flat together very cosy and both my lads are thriving.
Dog research
Hi Benita, I found the most helpful thing to be checking out some dog books from the local libary and getting familiar with the breeds. Most of these books will give you information on the different breeds' temperaments, whether they make good apartment dogs, how they are with children, etc. I ended up with a Bichon/Shih tzu cross and a Shih tzu purebred because they are hypoallergenic, small and great apartment dogs. Other breeds that do well in apartments are Italian Greyhounds, Chihuahas, Maltese and poodles, to name just a few. Doing research on the breeds is important because you want to find the best fit for YOU, your lifestyle and living space. Vets can be good resources too, and of course this website! My vet saved me from getting a 3 yr. old, unneutered male Jack Russell, which would have been a big mistake! Good luck and welcome to the site. Kaeli

Hi from Australia

Hi folks from Australia. I am presently dogless, but in the past have bred and shown Min Pins, Border Collies and Salukis. Have been involved with dogs all my life. The last dogs I had were 2 rescue Dobermans, Kohl and Jake, who although came from totally different places, it turned out that Kohl was Jakes' Mums' litter sister! For the past 12 months we have been busy building our own home ... from the ground up ... but that is nearly done, so will be searching for 2 buddies pretty soon.

Although we are dogless, Jeff, my hubby/soul mate, built a web site for a local refuge when we lived there and I still update it for them. Please feel free to sign the guest book if you visit and mention Care2. Any Ozzies here that want a pet .......     www.maryboroughanimalrefuge.com

Hi, I am new here and the proud owner of a miniature black poodle named Gabbi.  I have always loved dogs but adore poodles, they are so intelligent, courageous, and devoted to their "pack".  Wish human beings were as worthy.  I try to be what she thinks I can be.  Got her from a breeder, a good one but she was not emotionally connected at 2 years old.  The first night she slept with me in my bed and has been totally mine after that.  I realized she had been living in a crate most of her life with little emotional ties to people, she has always been afraid of noises she is not familiar with and it has taken years to get her to feel safe in most environments.  Her breeder was not a puppy mill breeder, she bred to improve the bloodline, had show winning dogs in agility and conformation but as most breeders, she could not have an emotional connection to all the dogs.  Gabbi still sees every dog as a pack mate and does not understand some dogs are not friendly to other dogs.  She can't be left alone so she got a cat as a pet.  She is my surrogate, what I can't do, she does for me, like run.  She makes me feel so happy, so loved and reminds me of the sheer joy at living in the moment.  I got her after my father died, he and I had shared a toy poodle until its death and Gabbi made it feel like my Day was not gone.  She is almost 10 now and I am aware she may not have many years left to give me.  I try to honor everything she does for me and take good care of her, better than myself at times.  I have vowed I will never be without a poodle in my life again, being mere human, I can't contain the wonder that life is, too distracted by daily tasks.  Hope this touches the memory of someone who was lucky enough to have such a being in their life.

Dear Vintage B.Congratulations on your choice of breed.I like the IG.They are sporting little dogs and adorabel in every way.You will get to love a precious soul.if you ever have any questions about sighthounds feel free to ask.The italian greyhound is an ancient breed. The IG is a sighthound. They are sweet tempered and hardy little dogs contrary to belief. They love to be with their owners and they are very curious. They like to sit in your window sill looking at the world outside. They love running and they are quite fast for their size.If you live in a place where it gets cold in winter he/she will need a warm coat when you take him/her out.always remember that sighthounds need less anastetic when going in for an operation. They have no boddy fat and are thus more vulnerabel than any other breeds.Other than that they are as healthy as can be. Best wishes and good luck with you new familymember. Lots of love and light from Lisbeth and the lads in Denmark.

Hello all!

I'm Chase, I'm in Arizona. I have four doglets.

Two rottweilers.. Chivas, a 14 year old girl, and Guinness, an 8 year old boy. They live outside in the backyard, in their very own air conditioned dog house!

This is Bandit. He's cranky alot.. we chalk this up to him having official papers, certifying that he's 100% toy fox terrier. Purebred doggies can be a little high strung.. lol

Last but not least.. the baby of the family, Bailey! She is a petite chihuahua, and the cutest dog in the world (yes I'm biased). She shivers alot, so we have many little shirts and jackets for her.

If you want to see an adorable video of Bandit and Bailey, check out my profile. That's all for now! just wanted to say hi and show off my loves.

Hello everyone and thank you for letting me be a part of your group.  My name is Cindy and I have a son named Caleb.  We have one Great Pyrenees, one Miniature Pinscher, one Chihuahua and two ferrets.  I do rescue in Missouri and will adopt out to checked/visited homes only.  I do not charge for these animals, I consider their vetting and bailing out money as my contribution.  I NEVER take any animals to the shelter because they are a kill shelter.  All of my dogs were adopted by me from other shelters around my city.  I refuse to support my shelter in any way.  They refuse to stop killing helpless/innocent animals.  I work with Man's Best Friend to rescue, vet and adopt out to qualified homes.  Pics of the kids can be found in my photo album.

I'm so glad to be here because I am a SERIOUS animal lover and will take in anything (I even had a alligator).  I also am against Puppy Mills and Backyard Breeders.  We need to take care of the animals we have before we make anymore.

Hugs to you all and I look forward to reading your posts in the future.

Hi! I'm new here!

Hello everyone! My name is Cheya, I am new to this group as well as Care2, so I thought I would introduce myself. I am the proud Mommy to a 3.5 year old Boxer named Jack. He is the light of my life. His sister passed last fall, he misses her terribly, especially when i am at work all day, so I recently got him into Doggie Daycare & he is loving it. I am very happy about that! This seems like a lovely group, everyone is very nice, so thank you for having me! I hope to have pix of Jack added to my profile within the next few days.

Hi, everyone!

I am new to this group and to the Care2 site; just make first steps and check it around....

Don't know much about dogs but certainly love mine. And that's her, let me introduce her to you: A 2 year old mini schnauzer (MOSTLY schnauzer and partly a scottish terrier; her daddy was one but I think she inherited her mama's slightly grouchy yet irresistable personality). Her official name is Agrippina Gennadyevna but everybody calls her Dixie.

In fact you are looking at the picture of my whole family but the other member of it is represented by his foot only.

Family portrait We love you all and hope to make more friends and have fun here!

Today I learnt that you shouldn't have a dog on-lead in an off-leash park - then the dog feels restricted when others are running around having fun.

Hello I have been here for awhile but I haven;t officially introduced myself. I am not online a whole lot.  I would love to rescue dogs from cruelty but I have a 3 year old who can be rough and a 7 yr old as well as a 10 month old and a 2 year old jack russel Cooper.  We;re trying to move to a larger house where I hope to be able to help as many animals as I can.  I would love to rescue a grey hound. I also don't know the channels I would have to go through and I can't afford to have a dog shipped to Vermont. So I would have to do something locally or in the New England area.

I also want to say Hi and that I will try to get in this group as often as I can. This is an awsome group!

First of all I would like to say Hello to everyone!  I am a new member and have made my first posts here today.  I have really enjoyed reading the posts in this group and I never thought I would get so much out of something like this!  There is a lot of love here and it is inspirational!

I am 29 and have a Yellow Lab / Shar Pei mix puppy who is 7 months old right now.  Smokey is a handful, but we love him and wouldn't trade him for the world.  Here is a pic of Smokey...
5-2007 Good Morning Mom3.jpg

My camera isn't very good, but don't you just LOVE that face?  It's like he is saying, Helloooo...Moooommm, it's time to Play!  And you know he brought that rope over so I could throw it for him.  My man Tony and I are HUGE Dog Whisperer fans.  Cesar has taught me a lot about dog psychology and how to be a stronger person.  I've realized all the therapuetic ways a Smokey fulfills my life and I want to fulfill his equally.  We recently bought two bikes so Tony and I can take Smokey for rides together.  It is great quality time for us and the dog.  And Smokey gets the exercise he needs.

Well, thank you for allowing me to introduce myself!  I look forward to participating and reading more about all of you!

Hey everyone, my name is Kristin. This is the first time I'm posting anything so I guess I should tell you a bit about me and my "kids".  I live in new york, usa. I am currently at home and in total there are 3 dogs and 5 cats. I personally own 1 dog, an 8 year old chocolate lab who I rescued from a horrible owner and living conditions, she great so well behaved and just an attention hog lol. Then I have 3 cats. The other 2 dogs are a 5 year old mini poodle and a 4 year old boxer. All of my animals are spayed, and I have very strong views on this since it helps to save the lives of many animals. I work at a veterinary hospital, it's honestly the best job ever (helping to save the lives of many animals is the most rewarding thing for me) and through my job I rehabilitate wildlife.

I'm David, wife Pat, a Lhasa "Taz",Shi-tzu"Bandit",mix Shi-tzu"Sassy".We care for our pets.THEY GO WHERE WE GO.our life style is based on times around dogs/food,potty time, being home alone to long.Sassy's the youngest 2 yrs. She's a rescue  the wife cried when she saw her in the cage.So little less than 2lbs.now she runs plays and just keeps busy hardly sits still.she loves the running space we have at our vacation home in Northern Mich.she like to play keepaway with her toys but loves go-fetch.being the Omega dog she teases the older ones into doing anything from moving off the couch to barking out the window at nothing.she moves away from you if you do the raspberries sound thrrrt.Looks at you like huh?Taz is an old girl she just stays nearby.goes outside with me and lays near the shed or on the porch watching me do yard work.Bandit is only 6lbs but keeps everone and everything away.He barks at everthing birds kids, loud noises.he chased my wife's sisters beagle off the property up north when they came up to visit last month. He's little but he's not scarrred of anyone.People ask if he bites we say yes.but they still try to pet him ,and they get nipped.Once you've come around enough he'll leave you alone. He sits by the window near the driveway and watches whenever the wife goes out.I know when she comes home without hearing her car.Bandit goes runnin around looking for a toy to offer her.Best burgler alarm around.we have no fence around our yard but the dogs know where the END is.No shock collar no hidden fencing.People ask how long it took us to train them.we say"they're still training US".we know when they want food, fresh water, out, and playtime. It is said people live longer when they have pets.well with the extra activities in caring for our dogs we do stay healthier. If you want a good laugh think about this ,40" of snow, cleared driveway, wall of snow, dogs 8-10" high trying to get on top of snow cuz thats where the grass is to go potty.Fun to watch first hand and them runnin around on top if it's crusty enough.and yes we do clear spots for them on the grass but when it's fresh snow and they gotta go it takes time to shovel.I do have to wear snow shoes to get to the pole barn when we go up in the winter.after the snow packs down the dogs have a good runway.I have to shovel offshutes so I don't get dirt on my boots.last winter I shoveled a path around the yard a big 100' circle in the back.Sassy ran around and around .with 3ft high walls that all she could do is go and go and go.someday I'm gonna figure out how to put pictures on the computer to send out .I do like seeing other peoples pet and how they look like their owners. well god bless the pets in the world

There is nothing wrong with pit bulls. We adopted a female stray pit bull and she is the sweetest dog and just loves everybody and everything. She is a bundle of energy and loves to play. I will do all I can to change peoples minds about pit bulls. Its not the breed of the dog that is the danger its man and his treatment of the dog.

Hi,
I'm quite new to this group. I joined Care 2 very recently and had not too much time to visit all favourite groups so far. But as I LOVE dogs, I'll certainly be an active member of the group.
I'm now the mother of a wonderful collie, he's 9, his name is Botticelli and hadn't been for him I would have been already insane by now on this wonderful planet. The world is beautiful only that humans are trying to make it a loveless one.
To just kill all pit bulls simply because they are pit bulls is just like making peace through a war, or like saying that it's not humans who commit murder but the guns they use!
Unfortunately, we live in a loveless manmade world.

With love for all dogs

Hi to all DOG LOVERS

My name is Bonita, live in Michigan.  Hubby and I have 6 dogs and 2 cats at present.  We've had up to 10 and 3 but have lost older sick ones along the years.  We very recently lost my baby Rat Terrier, Bo-Peep, not quite 5 yrs old so are still in the grief process as we pack and get ready to head north for 2 weeks.  The trip won't be the same without her, she loved to go camping.

I am new to this site as well, but when I was sent a email sympathy card from Care2 I looked around and just had to join.  Reading through this post here, you all have such cute babies.  I wish I knew how to post photos of mine but I'll have more time to set and figger that out when I get back.  You all have a happy Thanksgiving and I hope I don't miss any good stuff but I probably will.

Hello to all,

Thank you so much for your great intro. to this group. I am new to this group, and feel welcome already. I have an English Shepherd mix, she is a shelter dog. We adopted her at two months of age, and she turned 1 year old in this month. She had a lot of problems when we first got her, but she turned out just fine!!! She is just a sweetheart, and we love her millions. Her name is Shandi.

I also am the mom of two young adult daughters, and the grandmom of Shandi's sister, our old 12 year old cat Phoenix, by the way, they get along just fine.

Have been a dog lover all my life, and have raised many of them. Thanks to all for accepting me into this group.

Hello again to everyone. My name is Paula and I was a member about 7 mos. ago. I had to take some time off to gather myself. I am very glad to be back. I share my life with Mindy and her pup, Cujo. Mindy is a chihuahua and in May gave birth to 7 healthy puppies. They now have new homes and I kept Cujo. My daughther came up with the name, but at times he lives up to his name. I refer to him as a pitbull in a chihuahua body, ha ha. Well I am looking forward to getting back in touch with all of you and to the ones new to the group.

Hello from another dog (and other critters) lover!  I'm looking forward to meeting and sharing with everyone here.

Sugar

This is Sugar, an incredibly lovable old gal - a bit about her background is noted in the photos section of my page.

Bubba

Bubba is a delightful goofus who keeps everyone highly entertained!

More on Bubba is also in the photo's section.

The best part is that these two rescued dogs have donated lots of love and licks to nursing home residents!

Hi all Dog Lovers,

I'm new to the group.  My name is Linda & I live in Iowa with my hubby & 2 wire fox terriers Butchy & Snickers.  We bought Snickers as a puppy over 5 years ago & we rescued Butchy 3 1/2 yrs ago when he was 3 1/2 yrs. old.  We have no children and our dogs have always been are kids.  I also have a blog for my dogs.  The link is on my profile page if you care to check it out.  I can no longer work outside of the home due to my illnesses so I started making & selling dog clothes last year to keep me busy.  Butchy & Snickers are my beautiful models.  Looking forward to knowing everyone.

Hi, I am Bea, I am new to this wonderful group. I am owned by 5 Golden Retrievers, bred by me. I am a full time dog groomer, of 11 years, My advice to this group is free.  I teach natural dog diet, so if any of you want to know how to feed your dog a natural diet, I am the person to ask. Same, if you got a dog that has skin problems, is overweight, and you have tried everything else to make him loose weight, I can help.

Read all the introductions and you look like a lovely bunch of people and I am so glad to  be here. Woof to you, Bea

New and poping in to say hi.

I was told about this group buy another person who shares my love for dogs.  I have 3 human kids that are my life. In October we added Maggie to our crazy house.  She is an 8 year old Jack Russell that I got from a rescue here in Ontario.  The poor girl was bounced around for most of her life. She was given away when she was younger then returned to her owners. Then just before I got her she was given away once again only to be locked in a basement because she bit some one. Thankfully she was returned to the owners and they called the rescue after she was almost put to sleep.  She is my best friend and always there for me at night when I am lonley.  I have also started to be a foster mom for the rescue.  I am looking forward to getting another foster dog in Febuary.  (The rescue doesn't use a shelter. They take Jack Russells out of shelters and place them in foster homes until they go to their forever home. )

On top of having Maggie I also help my sister with her 4 Jack Russells. 3 of them are rescues. On of the rescues is my buddy Forrest Gumpy.  He is addicted to water and does a sport called Dock Diving.  We have to fight to keep him off the dock because he loves to run and fly off into the water. Right now he is fighting for his life because he has lymphoma.  My sister and I take him for chemotherapy once a week.  We did get news today that he is in remission after only two treaments.  We are so happy. He is only 5 years old and a ture fighter.

Hi Melanie,

Welcome to the group.  I'm new too.  Maggie sure is cute.  We're glad you were able to rescue her & give her a great home.  We had a jack russell before our wire fox terriers.  Sadly he had severe brain seizures at 6 months old & had to be put out of his misery.  We sure hope Forest Gumpy stays in remission.  We have some pals in Malayasia & Singapore that have jack russells & one even does search & rescue training.  They love to be active.  Have a great weekend.

Hi I'm Jeanne. I can't remember if I introduced myself before. I live in Connecticut with my black shorthaired cat named Hope. She was a little stray and I took her in 8 years ago. She is the light of my life. I lost my retired service dog named Holly 6 months ago. I had to put her to sleep at the age of 14 yrs. She had kidney disease and couldn't keep enough food in her to maintain her normal weight. So, I had to make the right decision (I keep telling myself that) to end her suffering. I still struggle with my choosing euthanasia everyday, thinking maybe if I tried this or done that. I don't know. Her eyes were still bright and alert. I was so afraid of my baby starving and becoming anorexic. You see, I don't have a husband or children so Holly & Hope are my world. I hope to someday have peace with my decision.

Welcome Melanie B.

It's always kind of exciting to see someone who lives in Ontario, Canada. I live in Parry Sound, Ontario, with my husband, adult children, 2 cats and 3 dogs.  We have 2 wire fox 'terrierists', Millie & Random and a lab/hound Miss Annie Oakley.  We've been involved in WFT rescue since 1995, so I know that you're a very special person to be fostering and adopting these wonderful dogs.  Random is my son's puppy, and when they move to their own new home on the 31st, we're hoping to adopt a 6 yr. old wft male who is presently being fostered by Animal Guardian Society in Durham, Ontario.  Every Jack Russel I've met have been wonderful dogs, full of personality and love! Anyway, welcome to the group, I think you'll enjoy the people, the issues and information that you'll find here.

Blessings!

Hi everyone,

I'm Susan and I'm glad to be here. I'm married and I've got one young daughter and one teen daughter. I own 2 dogs, 1 adult cat, 1 bird, 1 guinea pig, a little over a few ponds fish, fresh water and saltwater fish. Also, 1 former stray kitten. She was a stray that was hanging around the outside of my mom's house we visited during the past holidays. She decided to travel on the outside of our vehicle for 5 hours for her forever home!! She was completely unharmed. We weren't aware of it until the next day after we returned home and discovered her outside. She earned the name Lucky from my kids.

Hi my name is Lori and I live in Wisconsin. I am happily married and we have a miniature dappled dauschound. He is 6 years old and his name is Sammy. I got him for my husband which is disabled and he battles from depression due to heart problems. So Sammy is a great therapy dog and a pal for my hubby while I am at work everyday. Since we got him my hubby has had almost no depression and that just makes life so much better. As soon as I get a pic of him I will post it. Thanks for letting me join as I think this group sounds like alot of fun. Thanks Lori

Hi, my name is Jaime and I live in WV. I have a disabled 20 month old baby girl that has brought more joy to my life than anything ever has! She is very special and I am so happy that I have her in my life! I am also, of course, an animal lover. I am owned by my boxer~ Bruno, my border collie mix that is 11~ Bear, my schnauzer~Powder, and my 2 senior, adopted (from kill shelters), beagles, Nick and Mollie. I also am owned by 4 felines, Screech who is 10, Lexie who is 7, Frances and Oscar, both 7 months and adopted from kill shelters.

I post online to many rescue groups for kill shelters in WV, and in particular, I work closely with my own county's ACO and Humane Officer. I do almost all of her online work, help with transports if going my way, post for donations to help the animals whether it be an emergency or for basic medicals, such as shots and speuters. I enjoy what I do because when you actually are able to help an animal, it is such a wonderful feeling.

I have joined this group in hopes to get more help for the unwanted animals in my county. We have very little help from our own community and have to look elsewhere to get it. That is sad, but true. We have a building donated to us to get the animals in out of the extreme elements and we are working on getting donations sent in to help with the other necessities to make it happen. It is so cold here during the winter, but all animals are kenneled outdoors and we do not have a high adoption rate, especially in county adoptions. We do our best to get our precious furkids sent to rescues. We are hoping for our shelter to become a no-kill and we WILL accomplish that! I suppose Sandy and I are just too stubborn to quit. It is so sad when you get in a perfectly fine dog or cat just because someone has thrown them our or were just not wanted anymore. We get attached to them and want them to find the best of homes. Right now, we are very limited with space and are hopeful to get our shelter set up by March of this year. If any of you would like to help, feel free to email me. I have placed a post about Durbin, WV down in the threads. You may email me at jaime0801@frontiernet.net if you have any questions about what we do or if you would like to help in some way! Thank you so much, and I look forward to being a member of this group! Jaime

Hi everyone:

I'm relatively new to care2 and wanted to introduce myself and my dog, Josie (mixed breed) who just turned 14.  I have always owned cats over the years and Josie was our first dog whom we adopted at 8 weeks old.   We named her Josie after Josie & the Pussycats!    Corney, maybe, but it fit at the time.  I lover her dearly - meet Josie below:

Nice to be here!

Hello fellow dog lovers. My name is Katia. I have three dogs. One rescued from a shelter, she's a mix but looks like a Besenji, her name is Maili and she's 9 yrs old, Bambi is the next one, she's also a recue- she came to us with emotional scars, wasn't being fed, she lived on bugs to survive... she's a Chihuahua mix, we think she's part Sheba Inu and she's now 6 yrs old and sweet as ever. Our third dog is a Papillion- another rescue from a bad situation, he just turned 2 and his name is Gizmo. These are my babies, my dogs and my friends and we're happy to be part of this group   We live in California and are passionately involved with animal welfare campaigns and the movement against animal cruelty.  I hope to get to know as many people as possible here in this group- being the dog lover that I am. Best  wishes to all, Katia

Hi everyone!
I'm Holli and live in Tyler, TX.  I have three young teenage boys ages 12, 14, and 16. (OH MY GOODNESS!! Am I REALLY getting THAT old!?) LOL! I also have several pets: 3 dogs: Trevor- blk lab mix- (10 years old),  Chase- Pointer mix-(3 years old), Solomon- black lab- 16 months old (HELP ME!) LOL! and a wonderfully dog-adapted male cat: Kobie-Wan-Kanobi (like OBI Wan KANOBI on Star Wars)- orange long hair tabby- (4 years old).
Oh, and multiple fish...LOL! I guess you could say I am pet oriented! I could keep going on and on and on and on and on and on and on, but I won't. You  now have an idea of the kind of person I am.
I look forward to learning more about this group and the entire site too.
Have fun!

Hi, Im Judy. I am in other groups here and I am new to it all. I posted this way a few days ago and linked a slide show of my dog off from my notebook. I copied and pasted addy to here, another group, but here. I guess it came out all crazy like. I think I figured out, with some help, that on certain sites when you copy and paste from notebook, the whole notebook pastes. So Im sorry I did this to you all, this is a test and I hope I dont get thrown off here. I prefer to post this way but if this doesnt work, I will post via email.  Here is the link, I hope it looks right and if not, please dont throw me off the site, I will post via email if this doesnt work. Thanks and nice meeting you all.  Judy http://www.associatedcontent.com/slideshow/3539/timid_tank.html

Hi everyone

Hi, I'm Morgan and just getting around to the introductions here.  Been reading over the site and forget to check in.  I'm owned by 5 doggies Bernie my long coat chihuahua who I constantly tell "Bernie your so cute your dangerous"  try being mad at this white chi with big dark eyes who knows how to cock his head and bat those eyes when he knows Momma ain't happy.  Then there's Monty my short coat chi who alternately gets called Love Bug, Crazy Guy and The Dude depending on which personality he is showing-this little guy tells me when I stressed out before I know it!! Penny is my spaniel mix who was rescued from the fast lane of the freeway where she was clinging to the barrier.  Everyone loves Penny, she leaps straight in the aire with a huge smile-goes and visits the neighborhood every nite and everyone wants to steal her.  Gracie (or Graceless as she can be known) my Gt. Dane who helped calmed down horses just by going to the fence and "talking" with them during one of the firestorms here in San Diego county. She is precious--can lose her confidence easily but that comes from a previous home where they thought training meant sending her away to be distance shocked for 2 weeks.  She took a long time to break thru but she is a love.  Spirit is my last addition--Poodle/German Shepherd mix and he is smart enough to be a handful.  Spirit believes life should be nothing but fun and that he should do as he darn well pleases.  He tends to be too protective as when he recently went straight thru a glass window when he thought my chihuahuas were being attacked by another dog.  No he wasn't injured god knows how and we have since been working on a "no window" command.  Well, that's my crazy household. It's loud always going full tilt boogie and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Hello, I'm Bridget, and I have two dogs. Benny is a big black mutt, who is very sweet and gentle. Hunni is a whippet/golden mix who likes to eat plastic and run.

I'm really happy to be here, but gotta keep this short, as we're off to the doggie park.

Hi everyone! I am new to Care2 and had to join this group immediately as I am definitely a dog lover! I grew up having dogs as family pets, and now have my own puppy. He is an 8 month old black lab mix that I adopted about 3 months ago. He is about 45 lbs now and still growing, has a ton of energy, and is extremely friendly. We're currently attending obedience classes; he's doing pretty well so far but he does love to jump. I'm looking forward to chatting with other dog lovers and making some new friends!

Hello all you doggie lovers!

I am new to this group, so I figured I would introduce myself. I have three spoiled little dogs; one is a male Chihuahua, a female Chi-terrier mutt, and their daughter. They are so crazy! They crack me up, no matter how upset I get, no matter the reason. They just look at me with those eyes and I melt into laughter! My boyfriend gets along with them just fine, thankfully! I could never be with someone who didn't get along with my babies. Love me, love my dogs!

Hi Everybody!

I'm new to care2, but not to dogs

Currently I don't have one, but had them around me all my life, so I intend to adopt as soon as circumstances allow. I miss having special friends.

G'day (Hi) I'm Patrick and I live in the land of Oz (Australia). Thank you for the opportunity to join this wonderful group! I love all animals but at the moment I'm closest to my little chihuhua (have you ever heard of a big one?) Tootsie; and my cuddly furball cat, Tinkerbell. I'm passionate about animals (more so than human beings) and I'm terribly sensitive to any type of cruelty to animals. Hence the reason I'm here. To try and make a difference whatever way I can. Nice to meet you beautiful people.
