Welcome December 11, 2006 8:30 PM

I'm Tami, growing up a very lonely child, my parents had their own business, I learned the unconditional love of a horse.  He saw me through thick and thin, was my confident (he never worried and I got it off my chest), and my best friend.  His name was Royal Flight.  Dave and I were in agony over his death.  Then, we were lucky enough to find a shetland sheepdog, Frisky.  I love Dave dearly, but, there was tremendous comfort in Frisky.  I suffered a bout of PTSD, (from my first marriage to an abusive, alchoholic, undercover cop) and he helped through the hard times when Dave was not home.  I swear he knew the exact thing to do to help me through the panic.  He lived a long happy life, and tried to stay living even after having terminal cancer.  He always thought of me first, as did Flight, and his suffering second.  After his death, we found a loving lap dog shetland sheepdog, Bandit, who only wanted to love and be loved.  That help ease the pain over the loss of Frisky.  2 years ago, I found an abandoned 1 week old freezing kitten.   Dave and I were delighted he survived.  He had some injured an eye, and it did not open until he was 2 months old.  Like my self, he has physical and mental scars.  He has taught me the life is not about the pain and the past, there may be scars, the the future is much better, all you need to do is let go and live.

to the group, Mike!  And thanks for joining and letting us know about the groups that you have.

I have a little too much on my plate right now to join any other groups, but hopefully some of the other members of this group will join you in yours, and as soon as I finish up with some of the stuff that's going on in my life offline, I will do my best to get to the groups that you host and co-host.

Hope you enjoy the group!

Hi Everyone....I'm Elle.

I would love to help with this group's very important work. I certainly agree that education is imperative in our fight to end  suffering and abuse of animals everywhere.

"Not to hurt our humble brethren (the animals) is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission: to be of service to them whenever they require it." ~ St. Francis of Assisi

My apologies for not getting in here sooner to welcome our newest members to the group. I've been crazy busy offline lately, and it only promises to get worse before it gets better. Always works that way, doesn't it?

But, I don't feel TOO bad, since they haven't signed in here yet, either. jk

Welcome to the group, and thank you for your wonderful words!  It is always nice to find others who truly believe that animals have souls, and that they are loving, wonderful beings like ourselves.  So few people treat them with the kind of respect that they deserve.

I used to blame that on people not caring.  And then I started talking to them.  Turns out most of them WOULD care.  They just don't know.  There's no adequate, society-wide training for people in regards to animals, just a handful of us trying to make a difference.

So I'm trying to provide our handful with all the information possible to go out and educate the world.  Hopefully we can start implementing programs that will teach larger numbers at once, as well.

Thanks for the invitation Amy. This is very important. I'm so glad you've started this group. So many things that people need to know and you point out a few of them. It always really blows my mind, when I discover that there are still some people who don't know that animals have souls just like you and me.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi Michelle! August 11, 2005 4:13 PM

so much for joining!  to the group!  I want to put in a thread about adopting older animals, but haven't got to it yet.  By the time I finished posting the ones that are here, I had a second member without even having to advertis!

So I figured I'd just send out the invites.  If you want to start up the thread about older animals, go for it!  I know you feel the same way about them that I do.  If not, I'll get to it in a bit!

A Word of Warning! August 11, 2005 1:18 PM

If you are sensitive to animal's stories, to the life and death of this whole situation, and are very enotional when it comes to the cold, hard, "life and death" facts, I recommend skipping the "In the Arms of Strangers" thread.

It is a fantastic thread, with heartfelt, compassionate stories and articles, but that thread is dedicated to the "life and death of it all" - namely euthanasia.  They are not the stories of the winners of this war; they are the casualties.  And every one is a tear-jerker.

I cried when I read them the first time around, and I cried again when I posted them here for others.  If you are prone to be severely upset by these situations and their outcomes, I suggest you look at the other threads rather than that one.  If, however, you are prone to crying over the tragedy, but still feel the need to face it head-on, to have all the facts, no matter how hard and how painful, please visit the thread.

The excerpts were written by two wome nwho state that they were
not easy to write, nor are they easy to read.  But they are a
necessary evil in the fight against animal overpopulation.  If you can bring yourself to read the thread, please do so.  If you think you will be too upset by the stories, please do not cause yourself further suffering by going to a thread that you feel will simply make you "well-rounded".

It is the most brutal, hard, cold truth that you will find (thus far) on
this site.  Be warned it is not for everyone.  No one will think any less of you for supporting the cause without reading those stories.

Welcome! August 10, 2005 11:13 PM

Hello! Thanks for joining our group. Our goal is to help educate the world to the animal issues prevalent in today's society. To do this, we must educate ourselves. To be most effective, it is important that we have all the facts and know what we're up against.

  • Did you know, for instance, that a vast majority of people in our society today do not know what the term "Pet Overpopulation" means?

  • Or that there are people out there who don't know what he word "euthanize" means?

  • Or what Breed Specific Laws are, and the consequences of implementing them in communties?

  • That there are still people who don't know what's involved in animal testing?

When things this basic are being completely overlooked, or not taught to our society, is it any wonder that we are fighting an uphill battle with some of the bigger things?

The hope is that this group will collaborate with each other, combine their knowledge, and send people out into the world with not only increased knowledge, but a better starting point as to where people need to be educated. We need to tackle the small things with society as a whole, while we tackle the larger ones with the government and agencies nationwide.

I sincerely hope that through this group, we are able to help each other to help others by learning ways to educate the masses, and then going out and doing it.

People are more likely to support your cause when they not only understand it, but are educated about all the ramifcations involved. Ignorance is NOT bliss. Not to thousands of hurting, abused, euthanized animals every year who stand no chance against this lack of information.

Before we can fight the system, we need to educate its people. The first step in resolving the animal issues in our society is education. Without it, we will take two steps back for every one step that we move forward.

Thank you for fighting for this cause and for joining this group. I look forward to sharing with and learning from all of you.
