LA FORTALEZA DE SACSAYHUAMAN...AMAZING.....

SACSAYHUAMAN...

Sacsayhuaman. This impressive Inca construction sits on a hill overlooking Cuzco and is dominated by a three tiered zig-zag wall about 700 metres long built from huge stones, one of which is around 300 tonnes. The stones fit together perfectly and are an amazing sight. The buildings and towers that were originally on the hill protected by the wall have long since disappeared, but their foundations remain.

Inti Raymi festival. On 24 June the Inti Raymi festival is performed in Cuzco. The Incas worshipped the sun, and the winter solstice was an important occasion that heralded the return of the sun and longer days. This festival recreates the ceremonies that were held by the Incas on the winter solstice. The ceremony is conducted partly in Cuzco and partly at Sacsayhuaman, lasts most of the day and attracts tens of thousands of spectators.

EL ESPECTACULAR MACCHU PICCHU !! August 26, 2005 8:40 AM

MACCHU PICCHU !!!....EXTRAORDINARY! (CUZCO CITY)

Machu Picchu. From Cuzco we took a three hour rail journey into the Urubamba Valley to Machu Picchu. The terrain is very steep in this area and the lush vegetation is in contrast to the barren hills around Cuzco. From the train station at the bottom of the valley a fleet of buses takes tourists 600 metres up the winding Hiram Bingham highway to the Inca ruins - one of the wonders of South America. The ruins are fantastic but it is the location and surrounding landscape which is the most impressive feature.

Machu Picchu ruins from the top of Huayna Picchu peak. We spent seven hours at the ruins, the highlight of which was the climb to the top of Huayna Picchu peak overlooking the ruins. The climb took one hour up a steep trail. From the top there were excellent views of the ruins below, the Urubamba River which winds in a big loop around the base of the mountain, and a 360 degree panorama of the surrounding Cordillera Vilcabamba.

NAZCA LINES .....LINEAS DE NAZCA...(ICA CITY)

 [ send green star]

 August 26, 2005 9:00 AM

NAZCA LINES

The Nazca Lines, are a set of zoomorphic, phytomorphic and geometric figures (lines, triangles, trapezoids, circles, spirals, birds, a spider, a monkey, flowers) that appear engraved in the surface of the desert plateaus. The Nazca Lines are one of humanity's mysteries. They are the most outstanding group of geoglyphs (drawings on the ground) in the world.

Lines and figures appear in an area of over 300 square miles.

How did the ancient people of the Nazca desert (between 900 BC and 600 AD) achieve such geometrical precision, and what is the meaning of the drawings of giant spiders and birds?

Decades of exploration and study by German-born mathematician Maria Reiche led her to see the Nazca lines as a sophisticated astronomical observatory, created to mark risings and settings of the sun, moon and stars.

CARAL

In Peru, to about 200 kilometros to the north of Lima, in the heat of valley of I knew, is the city of Caral.  This jewel of arqueologia conocia for almost a century, but the shortage of objects in the deposit - mainly ceramica -, habian made difficult their dating.  Nevertheless it radiocarbon tests made in the U.S.A. have demonstrated that this Peruvian city has 5,000 years of antiquity, which turns it but the old one of the American continent.  When in Egypt the pyramids of Keops were being constructed, this Peruvian enclave already counted on an impressive staggered pyramid of 18 meters of height.

Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is the ancient Incan city high up in the Andes mountains. It is located 12000 feet above sea level and was hidden from outsiders for hundreds of years. While the Spanish conquered nearby Cusco, Machu Picchu remained untouched for several hundred more years. In 1911, an elderly Peruvian guided an American archaeologist to the jungle encroached ruins of the city and Machu Picchu was discovered and excavated. The remains of the civilization led researchers to discover Incan culture in more detail than ever before, but also led to many questions. While it is obvious to travellers who visit the site that nature and religion were intertwined and extremely significant in daily life is clear, but it is unclear to researchers how Machu Picchu, an entire city made of granite and fortified so heavily, came to be vacated so completely and left for the jungle to reclaim.

Machu Picchu:Machu Picchu
The story of the amazing Inkas and their city in the clouds

"Machu Picchu" tells the story about the rise of the Inkas and the building of this great city. Award-winning author Elizabeth Mann has become justly famous for engrossing narratives that make distant worlds comprehensible and complex engineering feats accessible. In "Machu Picchu," these talents are displayed to their fullest.

Hola Paola

The pics are beautiful and interesting, but some of them have stopped working. Probably the websites that you got them from are cancelling the download to the thread, because they don't want to use their website to send data here. I think you could copy the pics onto a different website, and then they would not be cancelled.

What do you think?
