CNN through their promotion of the Supposed Christian conspiracy’s voucherizing, charterizing, privatizing and Corporatizing the public education system, under the guise of the “kid First” Banner. By the by, it’s not “kid first” to do away with the 0 tolerance rule, it’s Pedophile and criminal first, instead. They want to do away with the last 70 Years of educational evolution, backslide the nation’s education system to a pre-Plessey vs. Ferguson, education system, where there is separate and unequal Education. That segregationist and classist crime movement is being paid for by Your tax $, whites have their supposed christian voucher schools, and Corporatized prep schools and African-Americans have their supposed christian And corporatized charter schools, all getting your tax $ as well as special funds
And corporate $, making them almost doubly funded and staffed, etc.. Creating A future populace of have gone to special supposed christian schools kids, and Those who have not. This and the removal of voting rights, etc., is the beginning Of the defacto-reconstituting of defacto-slavery in the united suck of assassins, During the first African-American President’s 2 terms. For, as the rounding-up of Predominantly lower-middle class to poor innocents, because the police don’t Have to bother to do their jobs, they just have to arrest people, dictates that the Injustice system is providing defacto-slaves who must work at .25 cents an hour For the corporate structure, as well as non-violent, self-medicating, alcohol and Drug users, so, too the separate and unequal education systems will in the Future. We see this in the dino-in-chief’s allowing the “inalienable right” of voting To be stripped from 25 % of the African-American population, so far, and the White supremacy plans to take the vote away from another 25 % of African-Americans and poor voters before his 2nd term is up, why is the supremacist-in-Chief allowing this, and not stopping it with an executive order codifying that “Inalienable right‘s” re-enfranchisement across the nation? Nearing this Anniversary of the “Sandy Hook” terrorist attack (Blacks continue to insist is just Another “shootin’”, for the white supremacy), so chosen in retaliation to my Informing the world that uber-storm “Sandy” was engineered by HAARP, weather Machines, etc., of the united suck of assassins Gov’t to decrease voter turnout in The dems stronghold, the Eastern Seaboard, have we comprehensive gun Control, no, why not? There’s no reason why we don’t have an executive order For Amnesty for immigrants, like Reagan did! Yet, Barack‘s real busy trying to Shove another Earth-murdering trade agreement down our throats, “we,…” said No to NAFTA, CAFTA, and all that will come afta, so, say no to “TPP“, now! The Dems new caving to the rems comes on the heels of the rems latest boast, “a Nuk attack is the next they’ll purposely not prevent”, like they purposely didn’t Prevent the attacks on 9-11-2001, we can‘t allow the dems to cave to the rems, Destroying Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, rich African-American and White Supremacists, “…ebony and ivory…”, mugging elderly Caucasian women (the Largest recipient demographic) for their Social Security checks, “…in perfect Harmony…”! Last week, supreme leaders, supposed Christian Al-queda, Pope Francis, supposed Christian Taliban, Obama, met to seal global plans for the Future re-increasing the speed of their blitzkrieg. I told you that Abu Ghraib was The signal to the world that the crusade was in it’s intelligence operation Gathering phase of their global blitzkrieg, everyone now knows its true, defend Yourselves before you can’t! Close the unnecessary NSA and NASA, that’ll Save trillions as well! By the by, if Pope Francis were as good a Christian as Everybody is projecting, he would have turned down the ‘TIME’ Magazine’s “Most Important Person Of The Year Award”, for the idolatry that has plagued the Roman Catholic Imperial Church , and its teachings, forever, is only worsened by The award. Now he’s a celebrity, things are probably only going to get worst, Remember Thoreau said, “ower corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely, So how can him being a popularity supreme leader also, help him be less of a Patriarchal supposed christian supremacist leader? Anyway, Snowden should Have won the award, i.m.h.o.. Why hasn’t the supposed anti-war movement Done anything About Barack‘s not “removing troops from Afghanistan by 2014”, As promised, now they’ll be there “indefinitely”? Saddam Barack Osama Hussein Obama Binladen, as the rems call him, is supreme leader of the most Supreme of supremacies, “The President’s Club”, as he calls it, and a leader of Twelve supremacies, the “twelve headed monster” of the apocalypse, in The Book Of Revelations, he has over two years left in his Presidency, demand he do Something besides blaming 5 to 10 clukkaz in the House for everything not Getting done! “Jackhammering infants for baby Jesus”, supposed Christian Al-Queda’s ‘mantra of the month’, to genocide his competition before his second Coming, is still a cornerstone of the nazification of all to dictate the extermination To extinction of humanity, large mammals, through unending war, Earth-murder, Their ‘final solution’. Stop the destroying of newborns testicles by delivery Nurses in Roman Catholic Imperial hospitals, the infanticide, the rems, psychic Terrorism, “sucking” to death infants in the crib, the pedicide, raping, etc., of Kids, teens, by the global supposed Christian conspiracy. Don’t let him just Organize his doin’ nuthin’, like most bureaucrats, demand real: immigration Reform with amnesty, at least gun magazine and automatic weapon control, National voting “inalienable” right re-enfranchisement, etc., now! “Ebony, Ivory”, Stealing Elderly White Women’s Social Security Checks, “In Perfect Harmony”

Obama signaled last week that the ‘fix’ is back in, it’s the 90’s again, the real left And evolution have been destroyed to mitigated to the point where they can‘t Stop the duopoly, white and African-American supremacies, republican Conspiracy, the S.S. Tea Party, rems, and dinos from warring on the middle-Class to poor as they want, with his supposed “fix of ACA”, which actually made The healthscare industry bailout act less cost saving, more probable to fail, and Opened the door for the S.S. Tea Party to further “fix it“, to its end, in the future. Barack has called the Congress “do nothing” dozens of times, lying for the white Supremacy, for it’s only the rems who are extremely obstructing, like they did When they closed the Gov’t, costing taxpayers $ 35 billion, for nothing. Why Hasn‘t the “do nuthin’” dino-in-chief appointed the 93 Judges he can, what’s he Waiting for his term to be up so the rems get to appoint them instead of the Dems? As well, the supposed “bipartisan budget bill” supported by rems and Dinos alike is just the second act in the latest economic, political, etc., terrorizing The populace of the united suck of assassins into caving to the demands of the White supremacy’s war on the lower middle-class to poor’s increasing it’s Blitzkrieging speed, by threatening to close down the Gov’t again in 2 months, Costing taxpayers another $ 35 billion, for nothing! They cut SNAP by 5 billion, 3 Months ago, then cut it by another 39 billion a month ago, and that’s above and Beyond the original sequestration cuts to it, and now they want to cut it even More? Don’t allow the dems to cave to the rems terrorism of the lower-middle-Class to poor, tell Congress no on the fake compromise budget ‘deal’! 0 Tolerance for sexual harassment, violence in schools has long been attacked by The African-American supremacy, most recently by Tavis, etc., and just today CNN reported a case of a first-grader being suspended for kissing a girl on the Head, as he should have been, there’s a reason for rules, they’re necessary, as Is this one, especially, we can’t allow our kids to be continually raped, sexually harassed under the supervision of those paid by our tax $. The Only reason it’s A national story is because the rems and dinos official news channel, Propagating ebony and ivory supremacies working together in perfect harmony To rape and pillage the Earth, CNN, is working to do away with the 0 tolerance Rule, so all the supremacies can get back to mass-raping more kids tomorrow Than they did today for the white supremacy, like in the 50’s through 90’s, before The evolution started reportage on their pedicide programs. This ebony and Ivory conspiracy is also propagated by

As The Gravity Of Your Abominations, You Thought You Could Spaceship Escape,

Drags you back through the Solar-System you destroyed to burn before the Sun,
On the judgment day you dictated, after cannibalizing the Earth to death
And trying to run, you will know all life are needed threads in the fabric of life,
That we couldn’t allow torn asunder, non-renewables should’ve been abolished
Now, you think you live in the Weimer Republic, where fascist, notsee liberties
Abounded, where genocides, exterminations and extinctions were just decadent
Appetites for supremacists of all kinds to feast on, but, before you awaken from
Notsee American dreaming, you’ll find yourself in a notsee German redux, where
The Jews aren’t only the non-republican Caucasian infants to men being
Genocided now, but, you too. Where a Baskin and Robbins, with its 21 flavors
Of supremacy, have divided and conquered all for the white supremacy.
'In Germany they [notsees] came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up
Because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for Jews, and I didn't speak up
Because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't
Speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics,
I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me,
And by that time no one was left to speak up. - according to Pastor Martin
Niemoeller, 1946', so the story goes, though, you’d know that they actually came
First for the mentally ill, elderly, handicapped, diffabled, foreigners, Gypsies,
Roma, homeless, long-term hospitalized, nursing home attendees, orphans, poor
(CA inspired eugenics), like the tea partiers, republicans, and their dinos, are
Doing now. You’d know the corporate structure has made a trap of this world,
Yet, all life is in it, so 'we,...' can't underestimate our responsibility, that
Generations past have heaped on our heads and shoulders by not acting on
Theirs, then. You’d remember lessons of WWII, if you're not taking bullets,
You're making them, I'm bleeding every moment for you, are you? You’d think of
Dylan Thomas' poem's line, '...and death (murder) shall have no dominion...',
And know, 'we, the people...' can make it so! Will you? You‘d know, as Happy
Rhodes lyric relates, “…Words weren’t meant for cowards, be brave…”, and
Write on, as this rogue’s scholar, reality, does for you, all for one, one for all!
You’d also know that allowing evolution to be a common language, as it's the
Thread that links every, in the fabric of life, is a good place to start, if we‘re to
Change directions from the corporate structure’s convolution’s devolutionary one
To an evolutionary one, to avoid the extinction of humanity and large mammals
That can be seen on the horizon, racing towards us from our future, we‘ll only
Have if we individually, relationally, communally, nationally and globally turn
360 degrees around, back to life, nature‘s balance, the evolution and the future.
Viva la evolution! From the heart in the heart of the heartland. What, do you
Feel, think, does every cell in your body say, your heart bay, soma evoke?

Any problem has a solution, being that solution is a choice, as we are, Freud's sub and unconscious, Jung's collective unconscious, whether we're more in touch with reality, more acute foci of attention, more our true, inner-selves, relates to how concentrated or diluted our solutioning with reality is; ergo, whether we're more or less directing, creating the changes that constantly happen in our lives- and, to the extent that we do, co-creating reality. "All The News That's Fit (Not) To Print", But,
Doesn't Fit Because Adv., Etc., Has Dibs

The real left is being exterminated at a greater rate
Than ever in the united suck of assassins, there are
So many ways to know, one, the media 5 ring circus
Is in def con 3 mode, with the supposed progressive
Dems, like MSNBC, leading the corporate structure's
Convolution's devolutionary directions coning charge
Against the people for the first time, usually that's fox
+ friends job- providing excellent cover to keep reality,
Etc., out of the news. A closer look at a few rings,
Chris and Rachel keep talking about how they can't
Get enough of the part of the tea party who are for
Solar power, supposedly, on their shows, so I guess
If Hitler was for solar power they would have joined
The majority of homosexuals at that time, in Nazi
Germany, in support of his genociding the Jews, like
They‘re genociding non-rem, hetero, Caucasian
Infants to men now, here? Next, the Trayvon Martin
Ring, it surpassing the civil wrongs movement's
Sherrod charade, where they legitimized the Tea
Party for the republiconspiracy, already. I didn't think
Acquittal of zimmerman was a possibility because
The evidence supported a 1st degree murder con-
Viction possibly, 2nd degree murder one definitely,
And, knowing the state of the State of FL, and our
Criminal, injustice system, I thought, he would’ve
Received the last minute manslaughter charge
Conviction, at least, by the all female jury, which
Prosecution may have not met all the prosecutorial
Requirements for a conviction on. Yes, it's a tragic
Travesty, one which the Justice Dept. is looking into
Rectifying, yet, it doesn't mean that, as Shaka bs,
A respected radio host, said on MSNBC, "racially,
Things are 8 times worse now than during Jim Crow".
Apparently, he hasn't bothered to Google Jim Crow
Yet, so, to give a hand to the brother, I'll explain here
How that's not true, for e.g., then, there was a few
Actual 'lynchings' of African-Americans a week, at
Minimum, now there aren't. Every million $ spent
Now for show protests across the nation is a million
We won’t have 6 months from now when we need to
Protect and get out the vote, to change the legislators,
Who can then change legislation, like, 'stand your
Ground', which is devolving our streets into a paradise
For premeditated murderers. MHP is doing an ad for
MSNBC which basically says, while we're struggling
With it, of course, 'we like us some inequality'.
A highly respected Professor at Brown Univ., whose
Name escapes me, so we'll just call her Professor
Crakomias, also extolling on the lack of progress
And the surrendering to it in apathy by her and her
Fellow African-American supremacists. Just one line
Of her con will be addressed here, as she's a pro
Academia supremacist, and we haven’t the space
Or time. She said, "the fantasmagorically successful
African-Americans are discriminated against by their
Inclusion". Which immediately reminded me of Sir
Charles Barkley's whining for a decade about how,
After he spent his 50 million $ on alcohol, whores, etc.,
"African-Americans aren't getting the right amount of
Team management, ownership opportunities", which
Was accurate to a degree, though, there was nothing
About Latinos not getting them in baseball, etc., yet,
He came across as detached from reality, in a have-a-
Lot bubble, for, most multi-millionaires are smart
Enough to not whine about how they don't have it like
That, when they actually do. Her realism was that the
Poor world famous, young, healthy, multi-millionaires,
Moguls of the celebrity supremacy, “can't lead on, or
Even publicly talk about, issues that are of import to
African-Americans, because they will lose something,
Possibly”. For the last half a century, if a non-rem
Caucasian, heterosexual man said this he would be
Called a sellout, yet, since the genocide of non-rem
Caucasian infants to men is a cornerstone of u.s.a.'s
Entire notsee global empire and war machine, the
Rules that apply to non-rem males don't apply to any
Other demographic, therefore, when "a N.... can't be
Separated from a nickel", as Chris Rock relates, to
Evolve, save society, he's, an exceptional exception,
A “victim of inclusion discrimination“, regardless of
Him being a billionaire, etc.. This would be similar to
The top 1 % crying, during king george and his dick,
Cheney's, reign on the American way of life, that if we
Just give them more they could turn the trickle-down
Economics (which is really vacuum-up) pissing on the
Middle-class to poor into a shower. Yes, African-
American supremacists “Loves them some inequality“,
MHP, don't they? That's one reason they’re 'all in' on
Backsliding against civil rights, called “kids first”,
Which will turn out to be worse than king george and

Chameleon Karma

(Karma isn't history, is real cause, effect to the x th
degree, what goes around comes around, immediately
and eventually, possibly, yet, more intricately.
When one might suggest that anything is a result
of karma, or one's karma, that's not truth,
even though we also can't say that it isn't true.
To begin to understand karma one needs
to study both Hindu and Buddhist perspectives
on it, as well as Dharma, which isn't weaved
within the karmic wheel, and is the path we strive....
An ideal. It's said, a butterfly fluttered trivial breeze
south of the Equator can become a gale north of it,
with poetic license. This gives an inkling
of the intricacy in discerning what is, or could be
karmic. Those who say everything is, are mistaken,
while we can't say something is not. It's said only
Buddhas, and possibly Prophets, can discern
the true nature of an event back to its beginning,
seeing into past lives, et al. That gives a clue
to the impossibility of one abusing another
and suggesting it's their karma, accurately;
or trying to manipulate another with the same,
although, sadly, this is done constantly.
As one sows, so shall one reap.)

Chameleon Karma

Darkness plummets a man’s mind
As he deflowers a girl before her time,
Against her will, a heinous crime.
The River Ganges sees, rushing,
Reflecting, as it flows to the sky.
Brings Rama and Shiva tears to eye.
His soul turned its back on him,
Now, third eye blind, he’s just
Doing time, out of, or in a jail,
The prison of his crime. In India,
What can we do, the shout anew.
Echoing back on a Summer’s breeze,
Who can we be, in nature’s balance,
Harmony, if we don’t do
What we must do?

"What's Love Got To Do With It..."

They say, a rose by any other...,
Would still be as sweet....
Every 9 seconds a woman is raped
By someone who says he loves her.
Give a real gift to sisters,
And brothers, all, reach one,
And teach one, to not be a
Link in that patriarchal chain,
Not adding to that number of
Humanities bane, not a statistic
in la machine's game, ever;
From this Valentine Day on.

As machinations of

Narcissistic nihilistic

"...Of..., By..., For...?"

Pondering the nature of
Some peoples character
Has led me to conclude,
Their despicable actions,
Though masked by
Purported concern, therapeutic
Intervention, are what's so.
Stories about the one legged
Baseball player, or
The man without a face,
While inspiring
In and of themselves,
Are poor masks for
The premeditated malpractice
That takes place within these walls.

A woman raped in the very
Corridor she must walk
Up and down; day in day out!
A man-child grew up here
Stories to tell, they, supposedly,
Allow to curse, intimidate and
Dominate others. Giving him
All the rope he wants, then
Snapping the noose;
Strapping down, drugging,
Seclusion. Without boundaries
What client wouldn't become
Out of hand; where's the care?

Their fabrications told over and
Over, manufacturing psych.
Histories, means to ends,
Political, social, religious to
Discriminate for delusional profits
And pleasures; remove competition.
Their best, counter-transference,
The opposite of mental health!
A heart can be killed, yet,
Heart never murdered!
Did they ever know the
First tenet of all helping
Professions, "do no harm"?

Thanx

While feeling sacred on
This All Hallow's Day,
I also feel pangs of the
Hungry, so wrought by
The profane; for the food
Wasted by us could feed
All the world's.... Yet,
Betwixt, in the mundane
It's only hurled.

This petition on Avaaz . org: Fiscal cliff or escalation of war against middle-class to poor?:

My latest essai: War on middle-class to poor, and the m.m.c., throwing truth, reality, our kids off fiscal cliff/slope: To understand how the last 4 years of continual terrorist attacks in the united suck of assassins have been premeditatedly construed, and propagated as ‘a few bad apples perfect storming’, and/or the “mentally ill falling through the cracks”, neither of which are the case, in order to move forward one of king george and his dick cheney’s reign on the American way of life’s failed agendas, forced psychiatric diagnoses of the middle-class to poor population, we must discern through the cloudy lens of the multi-media conspiracy, the angle at which the truth entered it, the intensity of the truth, etc., in order to figure out the refraction of the truth by the m.m.c., in how it’s received by the people; thereby, we can determine why the people have accepted this as the new status quo (as a militarization precursor to the republican conspiracies‘ desired civil war)- and, only then can we struggle with the m.m.c. appropriately, to do their job, instead, so, the people will act instead of acquiesce. To that end, my latest essai: Again, the current engineering of post non-remocrat electoral victory can be aptly described as more of the same, the dino-in-chief gave the ‘08 and '10 victories’ political capital to the rems, for going on 3 years straight, almost recess appointing no one compared to what the republicans do, shirking his executive responsibility (while throwing U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice‘s being Secretary of State under the “300 buses and no drivers“, opting instead for a backroom deal with the rems and S.S. tea party to give the Senate seat vacated by he who will be Secretary of State from MA, to Scott Brown); another example of “ebony and ivory” supremacies “working together in perfect harmony”, like when they, the bad and good cops of the supposed Christian conspiracy, collaborated for 2 decades, first covertly, to get the rems voucherizing, the dinos charterizing, what most call privatizing, the RalphiNader would call corporatizing, which I think is more like making fascist, the public school system. Yes, the the dino-in-chief, regardless of the extreme republican obstruction across the whole of Gov’t, in the dems face, became the best thing for the rem conspiracy since Reagan. All this talk by the dems, of the dems wins as “not a mandate”, while the rems are saying their losses were “a mandate”, smacks of king George and his dick Cheney’s sky bluing us while he insisted up was down, etc.. He would state, at best, background truisms, like the sky is blue, with his projections, so, at least subconsciously, people might think there’s some truth to what he’s saying, while he pathologically lied. Now, we’re used to old dems pathologically half-truthing, while the good ole’ rems used to only pathologically lie; yet, this level of mindfkng has been made old by the S.S. tea party’s insisting that the old motifs operandi of the rems, “why tell a truth when you can lie”, be replaced by theirs, “why tell any ole’ lie when you can tell an extreme one”- this while the dems have had to throw a healthy smattering of whole truths in with their half-truthing for a decade now, although this seems to be coming to an end, portended by the atmosphere of “lowering expectations” by the dems, even the progressive ones. It’s like the populace wasn’t watching for a second and all the political playas jumped 5 steps to the right before the people looked again. Is it only an aspect of the fact that the dino-in-chief has been telegraphing that he will “cut spending”, even though it’s already been cut to the bone (while some would call it economic treason to cut social spending now, as it‘s the necessary stimulus our economy urgently needs), for 2 years now, like he suggested in his Bluedog dem proposal to avoid the ‘fiscal cliff’ the last time, which was turned down by the rems, with an expiration of “only the 2 % ‘s tax decrease”, that being a hat trick there’s no obvious way to execute- I don’t think so. Especially with the run of the mill treatment the terrorist attack in Newtown, CT is receiving. It’s important to keep in mind that one of the dino-in-chief‘s, which, for abbreviation’s sake, will now be referred to as the d.i.c., goals, putting the con back in the corporate structure’s convolution, isn’t possible without pervasive collaboration to collusion by the multi-media conspiracy, for abbreviation’s sake, it will now be referred to as the m.m.c., which has determined a re-structuring of the m.m.c., itself; with more tolerance for b.s., also resembling the m.m.c. of old; trying to slowly but surely engineer out the truth telling trend of the last decade in it. Both are clear examples of another goal of the dic and the African-American supremacy, stop the evolutionary, green, truth-telling trend, in politics, and return us to a politics of the 80’s to 90’s, where almost no dem dared tell a truth that a rem lied, etc.; and, of course, to help in that end, the rems want to return politics to the 80’s, and the SS tea party, to the 50’s- so, as you guessed it, the dic‘s “centris

Greens, what do you all think, GOTV, re: storm?

Fellow Members,

Hi. Can't wait to watch Jill in the 3rd party debate tonight, although, everyone is needed this election cycle due to republican and Uber-Storm Sandy voter suppression, please. We can't allow a rem in the whitehouse, it would mean 3 million male (even though they're only heterosexuals), and 1 million women and kids murdered in the Middle East, more than otherwise; through rem unending, unnecessary global war! W. Allen said, "70 % of success is showing up", we must keep this in mind, giving special attention to the East Coast, hit hardest by the Franken-Storm, Sandy- it will be hard for them to vote, even harder to vote early, so, please do what you can for anyone you know there! I agree that we shouldn’t pay no mind to the “internal polling” of the mitt/paul uber-paign, and I keep telling them if they just would extricate their heads from their asses they could hear other people and do external polling, which would be far more reliable than their polling their kidneys, liver, bladder, etc., BUT, they can’t listen, yet, even though Barack is probably not down, the dems always get egoed by the rems, and that’s how they loose 20 % of the time, so, the dems thinking they’ve defeated the rems isn’t probable; and, therefore, we still need every vote! Protect the vote NOW, “…be the change you want to see in the world…”, Mahatma Gandhi, if you want democratic processes, vote for the vote by GOTV, voting early, and each one reach one, each one beseech one, give someone a ride to vote early, accompany someone to vote on election day, etc, please! Green Party, Jill Stein for Prez: Urgent: Midnight tonight, 10-17-12, 3:26 PM
2 years ago

Our last FEC deadline is at midnight tonight and every dollar will make a difference. After last night, it’s more clear than ever before -- we must show the establishment the mounting demand for a Green New Deal.

Can you pitch in $50-100 today?

https://jillstein.nationbuilder.com/donate?utm_campaign=fec_midnight&recruiter_id=55518&utm_medium=email&utm_source=jillstein

Our arrests at the Commission on Presidential Debates’ (CPD) event last night has gone completely viral but we need the resources to keep up. Most Americans are fed up with politics as usual and with your support we will get out the message that there is an alternative to the two establishment parties.

Please dig deep. This is our final FEC deadline before election night.

https://jillstein.nationbuilder.com/donate?utm_campaign=fec_midnight&recruiter_id=55518&utm_medium=email&utm_source=jillstein

It’s great to be back on the campaign trail and I am so moved by the wave of support we’ve received from every corner of the nation. None of this would be possible without you. Thank you.

~ Jill Stein

p.s. - A first-time donor has pledged to contribute up to $1000 in matching funds for anyone in Massachusetts who gives up to $200 (more than ten times any donation he’s made to a candidate before!). Please forward to anyone you know in the state.

A Special Opportunity for Teachers:
I'm writing to announce a special opportunity for K-12 teachers from the Favorite Poem Project. If you're not a teacher, but would like to help us spread the word, please forward this email to an educator you know.

Former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, in cooperation with the Boston University School of Education, is accepting applications from teachers and teacher/administrator teams across grade level for a remarkable week of poetry in Boston, July 16-20. House passes CISPA: The House passed CISPA yesterday, and we want to make a splash as the focus shifts to the Senate.

More than 70,000 of you have emailed the Senate since yesterday, admonishing them to reject CISPA and protect our privacy and civil liberties.

If you haven't yet, please click here to email your Senators right away.

Email to forward to your friends:

We pushed them to the brink, but House Republicans rammed through CISPA yesterday afternoon, ahead of schedule.

Let's make sure it dies in the Senate: Please click here to email your Senators right away.

Our hundreds of thousands of emails and tens of thousands of phone calls have had a real impact:

Amendments were adopted that made CISPA (marginally) better.
Earlier this month CISPA was supposed to sail through, but we helped foment real opposition, and the vote was far closer than anybody could have imagined even a couple of weeks ago.
Most Democrats held firm in opposition, and more than two dozen libertarian-leaning Republicans defied their leadership and vote no.
Most importantly, President Obama has threatened to veto CISPA.
The Senate will consider cyber security legislation in the coming weeks. Let's turn up the heat right away:

Click here to tell the Senate to reject CISPA and any and all legislation that doesn't respect privacy and civil liberties.

Sample letter text:

All supremacists from all conspiracies within all demographics, who all collaborate with the white supremacy, must stop dictating their demographics embrace the devolutionary direction of the corporate structure’s convolution; and support allowing kids to be kids, and young women to become women, at minimum, before they’re introduced to any and all forms of corporate whoring. As well, female supremacists can’t collaborate with black and white supremacists in gradually taking away women’s reproductive healthcare and rights, as well as choice; the price they’ll pay when they do will be much greater than the crumbs they get off the republicans plate. Happy Rhodes sings, “words weren’t meant for cowards, be brave…“; write on. They say, the brave are those who stand when standing is hard; I say it’s when you only stand, "all endowed with inalienable rights..." (regardless of the fact that the dino-in-chief has taken away any and all rights from everyone except himself with the NDAA law, for all intents and purposes), yet, we only have the ones we exercise; remember the constitution republicans- that includes women. As well, I've said the united suck of assassins is a country of extremists, supremacists of every conspiracy within every demographic, conspiring with the republican conspiracy (which is why the remocrats keep winning even though they're only 20 % of the population, the dempublicans keep building them up), including academic, supposed Christian (the 'good cop', some of the civil wrongs movement, 'bad cop', all republicans, S.S Tea Partiers, our taliban and al-queda), supposed Sikh, LGBTQ, etc.; Machiavellians and uber-ones, at minimum fascists to nazis, one and all- it's not even a possibility that the evolution's direction can stand against the corporate structure's convolution's devolutionary one, at this rate. The republicans final solution, to steal everything from everyone through the extermination to extinction of humanity and large mammals, technocracies of the world have permanently altered weather cycles causing the increase in the amount and severity of supposedly natural disasters, yet, we know all life are necessary threads in the fabric of life, we can’t allow to be torn asunder. Extermination of humanity, large mammals, determined by the republican conspiracy, globally, millions of birds falling from the sky, fish dead in the water, etc., must be heeded now; before they sukceed in dictating the extinction of humanity and large mammals- as well as the destruction of the earth, and, possibly, all life as you know it. Life is indivisible, struggling with global unnecessary unending war is necessary; although, the intellect can‘t lead, for the life doesn‘t follow. Remember a lesson from WWII, if you’re not taking bullets, you’re making them, and fascism is the last step before the complete backslide to Nazism, possession is only nine-tenths of the law in a poverty stricken mind, centrism among extremists is Nazism, don't be it or allow it; Ghandi said “…be the change you wish to see in the world“, and Castaneda said, “discipline is the art of feeling awe”, etc.. Turn 360 degrees around, back to the evolution, dispelling the convolutions devolutionary direction; and getting back to the real future, we'll only have if you do! By abolishing the over use of fossil fuels (vaporizing the spirit and sucking the very blood of the earth, like the remocrat conspiracy does through their psychic terrorism, the suck, assassinating their only real competition, the real left, the evolution), and the devolutionary direction dictating the permanently altered weather cycles, 100 year storms happening every ten, 10,000 year cataclysmic events happening every thousand, 100,000 year destroying all life events, like alteration of magnetic poles location, their reversal, degradation of our orbit around the sun, happening every ten thousand, etc., and being most alive! Don't be republicated into mirror supremacist images of the white supremacy, being woman, black, supposed christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Asian, Atheist, male, LGBTQ, age, etc., supremacists isn't equality, there's no equality of nazism; destruction to extinction aren't profit, pleasure, nor power- Audre Lourdes said, "you can't take apart the man's house with the man's tools.”. The premeditated mass-murder of 8 billion people isn’t allowable, opinion, freedom of religion, choice, civil liberty, a right, equality, American dreaming or way of life, nor cool. The dreamers must awaken, unlike the Dino-In-Chief’s response to the tea partiers, which is tripartisanship, centrism, caving, the real left’s is fku+theshtthatshatu, as it should be; thank goodness! They can’t sociologically program somas of illimitable potential, that are indivisible, as life is, in order to republicate automatons for la machine, if you, don‘t agree, resist, refuse, be more so. Popularityism=vampirism=cannibalism=centrism supremacy=fascism=extermination=nazism=extinction. Thanx. Goodbye.

As Hanukkah has begun, and Christmas and Kwanzaa are but days away. I’ve recently been thinking a great deal about the success of “mighty” organizations that started out small, but with an enormous cause, and have succeeded in helping us to think and act differently in the world: MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers), Teaching Tolerance, the Women’s Movement, Bread for the World and Greenpeace, just to name a few.

The elders tell who they are, how they live, and what they believe. Magnificent portraits complement the soaring text. Among those profiled are Buffalo Jim, a Seminole who describes the Seminole story of creation as if the Everglades were Eden, talks of his people's individual passage into the afterlife, and reveals that every field of wild plants is, to him, a medicine garden. You'll also meet "Uncle" Frank Davis (Fancy Warrior), a Pawnee Elder who describes the "path to understanding" as a trial filled with scraps of paper, each one a piece of a puzzle. Also profiled is Mathew King, a Lakota who warns of punishments or those who would destroy the Earth Mother. Readers share the innernost thoughts and feelings, dreams and visions, laughter, healing remedies, and prophecies of the Wisdomkeepers, whose humanity shines through every page.

This review is from: Wisdomkeepers: Meetings With Native American Spiritual Elders (The Earthsong Collection) (Hardcover)

This is a book of incredible beauty - linguistically, visually, and spiritually. In an era which seems to skew more and more to the material and superficial, the Wisdomkeepers who are interviewed bring life and its challenges to the level of essence. Although I have walked in the daily company of Native Americans for more than fifty years, my understanding of the nobility of heritage and centered life grew immeasurably with the reading of every page. Anyone who passes this one up will be the lesser for doing so.

This review is from: Wisdomkeepers: Meetings With Native American Spiritual Elders (The Earthsong Collection) (Hardcover)

I have recommended this book to anyone I know that is on a path of awakening and can hear the words with their heart.I have given this book as gifts numerous times, but I cannot find it anymore which greatly saddens me. I would love to turn the world on to this book as it so beautifully depicts our Native Americans - OUR indigenous people. This book does justice to out Native Americans which they so very much deserve. I do not know how to thank Steve Wall and Harvey Arden - they have touched my life with this richly textured, genuine and moving piece. No words can express the power behind the span of the eagle's wings, the moving wisdom of a redwood forest or the joy inside to which this book has brought me.

Day Laborers: Ready & Reliable:
Ready and Reliable. Day Laborers are Here to Help.

During this holiday season when good will abounds, the best gift one can give a day laborer is a dignified day of work.

These days, our families aren't expecting luxurious holidays, simply hoping for basic employment to provide for every day needs, a roof over one's head, and to put food on the table. Especially in the winter, when work is more scarce and need is even higher.

More often than not the day laborer community has become the focus of attack with our contributions to our cities' well being going unrecognized. In the face of that marginalization and stigma, contracting workers is itself an act of immeasurable solidarity.

Friends, please consider hiring a day laborer this month. To help facilitate this process, we're launching a new website

http://www.HireaDayLaborer.org

There, you can find the day laborer worker centers closest to you.

I think you'll find it's the help you need, when you need it, at the price you can afford.

Thank you,

Pablo Alvarado.

Don't Let Lowe's Off the Hook for Appeasing Anti-Muslim Bigotry

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 12/21/2011) -- The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today urged all people of conscience to continue to hold Lowe's corporate headquarters accountable for its decision to appease anti-Muslim bigotry by delivering a letter of protest to a store manager and posting a photo of that action online. Nearly 250,000 people have already expressed their disappointment in Lowe's.

A sample letter to Lowe's managers provided by CAIR states in part: "Lowe's should agree to undertake reasonable actions to show the broader American public that it's business model includes no room for bigotry. Until that time, we have no interest in your products."

The home improvement chain recently pulled its advertising from TLC's new reality series "All-American Muslim" because of an anti-Muslim campaign initiated by fringe right-wing groups like the Florida Family Association (FFA) and Internet hate sites such as "Bare Naked Islam" -- which recently featured a number of threats of violence targeting U.S. and European mosques. The hate groups objected to the show's non-stereotypical portrayals of American Muslims.

Lowe's officials have ignored requests to meet with community organizations.

A number of spontaneous protests have take place outside Lowe's stores nationwide and the retailer was forced to delete thousands of anti-Muslim comments from its Facebook page.

"Lowe's seems to be betting that the upcoming holidays will distract people from the corporation's decision to appease anti-Muslim bigots," said CAIR National Legislative Director Corey Saylor. "If everyone takes a few simple steps we can remind Lowe's that caving in to bigotry is a bad business model."

Saylor noted that numerous politicians, celebrities and journalists have already spoken out against the decision to pull the ads. This week a group of Baptist and Jewish leaders delivered a petition with 200,000 signatures to Lowe's headquarters. A separate petition has over 40,000 signatures and is growing.

CAIR is working in coordination with the National Boycott Lowe's Network and the Boycott Bigotry campaign.

Urgent: Innocent man about to be executed:
Dear MoveOn member,

Troy Davis could be executed as soon as September 21, 2011, for a crime he did not commit. Davis is on death row in Georgia for the 1991 murder of police officer Mark MacPhail. However, since his conviction, seven of the nine witnesses who testified against him have recanted and no physical evidence links Davis to the crime.

No one should be executed when there are so many doubts about guilt. It is more important than ever that we continue to let Georgia authorities know that we oppose any effort to execute Troy Davis.

That's why I created a petition to the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles on SignOn.org, which says:

We, the undersigned, call on Georgia authorities to take all steps necessary to ensure that Troy Anthony Davis is not executed. Seven of the nine witnesses have changed their story and no physical evidence links Davis to the crime. No one should be executed, especially when there are so many doubts about guilt.

Another way to help Troy Davis:
There could be one more avenue to help save Troy Davis from execution on Wednesday September 21 — but to take advantage of it, we need you to speak out now, and ask your friends and family to take action as well.

We've learned that Chatham County District Attorney Larry Chisolm, who asked a judge to issue Troy's death warrant, can also ask the judge to take it back. This move would be a game-changer — but it'll only happen if he feels more pressure from us to do the right thing than he feels from all those in Savannah calling for Troy's death.

Click the link below to automatically sign the petition to District Attorney Larry Chisolm, which reads:

"Based on the major, persistent doubts about his guilt, I call on you to seek a withdrawal of the death warrant against Troy Davis and to support clemency in his case."

Dinos suggest, "nobody wants to see what's in sausage-making, they just want it done", we know what's in their "deal", they’re grinding up the future’s of all lower-middle-class to poor; we can stand, say no to the devolutionary direction the S.S. tea party is steering their tripartisanship in- we won‘t watch our nation crashed into fascist rocks, our futures dashed upon them, for the uber-greedy! Call your Congress person and ask them to vote no on the deficit bill.

Sample talking points, letter:
Dear Congress Person,

Hi. Oppose the creation of a uber-Congress in the deficit bill. The constitution makes no mention of such a body, and I understand this is how members of Congress hope to insulate themselves now, from making unpopular votes to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits, in the future. On behalf of the elderly and all citizens who will face serious setbacks if these cuts are enacted, I want you to know that I consider a vote for this bill a vote to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits; and I will not be supporting you in the next election if you vote for this ‘uber-Congress to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits’ bill, the, supposed, deficit bill. Goodbye.

Puma JUST DID IT:
Detox Campaign, Fabulous news!
Puma, the third largest sportswear company in the world, has leaped ahead of rivals Nike and Adidas this morning by publicly committing[1] to the elimination of all releases of hazardous chemicals from its entire product life cycle, and across its global supply chain, by the year 2020. The move comes less than two weeks into our Detox campaign, and shows the power of thousands of people challenging the industry online and in cities around the world.

The question is, who will take the Detox Challenge to the next level -- Nike or Adidas. Please sign our our petition if you haven't yet or forward this email to your friends. As much as 70 percent of China's rivers, lakes and reservoirs are affected by water pollution, and the clothing industry is making it worse by pouring hazardous chemicals into the mix.

Our brand choices give industry leaders like Nike and Adidas power. Now, we need them to use that power for good and help champion a toxic-free future. By working with their suppliers to eliminate the use and release of all hazardous chemicals in their supply chains and products, these brands can detox our sportswear, detox our water, and detox our future.

Click here to visit our site and sign the petition

http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/campaigns/toxics/water/detox/Tell-Nike-and-Adidas-to-Detox/?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=GPI%20detox%20now%20petition%20followup%20(Puma%20success)%20(1)&utm_content=

Round one of the Detox challenge belongs to Puma who has sent a clear message to its competitors that allowing suppliers to use and discharge toxics is simply not acceptable. But Nike and Adidas could still steal the lead by matching Puma, and then going further by coming clean about the hazardous chemicals released during the production of their products.

It's working - please spread the word today!

The Greenpeace Detox Team

P.S. Please forward this email to friends if you have already signed the petition, and help spread the word about this urgent issue by making sure everyone you know is “all in” for a toxic-free future!

(SCIA) held a hearing on “Native Women: Protecting, Shielding, and Safeguarding
Our Sisters, Mothers, and Daughters.” In historic testimony, the Department of
Justice’s Associate Attorney General Thomas Perrelli testified [ http://fcnl.org/r/B/MTU1NTIz/NDYzODY/0/0/aHR0cDovL2luZGlhbi5zZW5hdGUuZ292L2hlYXJpbmdzL3VwbG9hZC9QZXJyZWxsaV9UZXN0aW1vbnlfRklOQUxfXzEzSlVMMTFfLnBkZiMhIyE ]
that the Department of Justice supports legislative changes to the Violence
Against Women Act (VAWA) that would strengthen protections for Native American
women, including in cases of domestic and dating violence perpetrated by a
non-Indian boyfriend or husband. Perrelli expressed support for new legislation
which would amend the VAWA in three specific ways:

* Recognize the authority of certain tribes to exercise concurrent criminal
jurisdiction (along with state or federal jurisdiction, depending on the
tribe) over domestic violence cases, regardless of whether the defendant is
an Indian or non-Indian,

* Clarify the full civil jurisdiction of tribal courts to issue and enforce
certain protection orders against Indians and non-Indians, and

* Amend the federal assault statute to increase the maximum sentences from six
months to one to ten years for three types of assault frequently committed
against Indian women if such assault is committed by a non-Indian against an
Indian woman in Indian Country.

The Department of Justice formally submitted a legislative proposal [ http://fcnl.org/r/B/MTU1NTI0/NDYzODY/0/0/aHR0cDovL3d3dy50cmliYWxqdXN0aWNlYW5kc2FmZXR5Lmdvdi9kb2NzL2xlZ2lzbGF0aXZlLXByb3Bvc2FsLXZpb2xlbmNlLWFnYWlu

Raise your voice for safe chemicals!:
April 18, 2011

Senator: Be our hero, co-sponsor the Safe Chemicals Act of 2011

Today we have exciting news to share; Congress is poised to take a meaningful step to protect you and your family from toxic chemicals. We need your help to make sure your Senators know that fixing the toxic chemicals law is important to American families!

We know you're tired of having to worry about which products in your home are safe and which ones may contain toxic chemicals like lead, formaldehyde or dangerous plastic additives. So are we. We believe Americans shouldn't need a Ph.D. in chemistry to make safe purchases at the checkout counter. The just introduced Safe Chemicals Act of 2011 would require chemical makers to prove their chemicals are safe before they are allowed in our homes, schools, and workplaces.

http://org2.democracyinaction.org/o/6639/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=6344

Just as we have laws against people breaking into our homes and threatening our safety, we can have laws against chemical intruders that enter our bodies. Without our knowledge or consent, these toxic intruders put us and our children at risk. Science is linking toxic chemical exposures to all kinds of serious diseases and disorders, including childhood leukemia and brain cancers, breast and testicular cancer, neurological disorders like autism and Alzheimer's, and fertility problems.

We need you to tell your Senator to co-sponsor this important piece of legislation. By signing up as a co-sponsor, your Senator can show their commitment to putting common sense limits on toxic chemicals.

Will you take a minute to ask them to co-sponsor the Safe Chemicals Act?

http://www.saferchemicals.org/join/get_involved.html

If you prefer to make a two-minute call to your Senator, please call the Capitol switchboard at: (202) 224-3121.

Thanks for your continued support. Asking your Senators to co-sponsor the Safe Chemicals Act is an important step towards safer products, stronger businesses and healthier families!

Sincerely,

Lindsay Dahl
Deputy Director
Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families

Panama Campaign Update: Ngöbe Introduce Bills to Protect Their Governance and Territories

After half a year of constant protests which were supported by Global Response campaigns, the Ngöbe people have proposed two bills to Panama's National Assembly. One bill would revoke an executive decree that violates their right to freely choose their own political leadership. The other bill prohibits mining and dam construction that would negatively affect Ngöbe communities.

Bangladesh Campaign Update: Energy at what cost? Protests Against Coal Mine Continue

Two thousand Bangladeshi citizens blocked major highways and railways for six hours on March 28, and demanded a response from the prime minister by April 11. They are calling on her to honor a 2006 agreement to ban open pit coal mining in the country. For seven years, Bangladeshi citizens, including the National Indigenous Union (Jatiya Adivasi Parishad) have fiercely protested a British company's plan for open pit mining in Phulbari.

Please, Egyptian brothers and sisters, don’t relent, or forget, this great element of your struggles processes is just this step as well as your “Independence Day“, hurray, not a goal achieved, yet; embrace your journey, don’t be eluded by the destination- you’ve gotten where you are by struggle, now you must struggle more. The supreme military body dissolved your parliament, dissolved your constitution, Suleiman , the V.P., is still in power, and you can be one step closer to your democratic process evolving, or, it could, sadly, be only a next step in a military takeover- they might say is “for the good of the country and people”, Fear not, act, keep the circle in the square, as you are struggling from within to be you, and family to be that, and community to be so, and all relations to be more no, you must individually struggle to be a country at rebirth, as well- and if you will, you will through perseverance.

Turtles, sharks and juvenile tuna need your help!:
In this image a whale shark is caught in a net meant for tuna. Help us stop ocean destruction!
E-mail Princes Tuna!

http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/campaigns/oceans/tuna/Write-to-Princes-tuna/?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=GPI%20Princes%20Tuna%20appeal%20-%20Jan%202011%20(1)&utm_content=

Dear fellow Ocean Defenders,

I've got some great news to share with you about our campaign to save tuna. This week, having got wind of the fact that it was going to come last in Greenpeace UK's new tinned tuna league table, Tesco (a supermarket giant in the UK) did a spectacular u-turn. After being the subject of a Greenpeace investigation, it has radically improved its policy on the fishing methods used to catch its own-brand tinned tuna.

It seems the mere threat of a Greenpeace campaign - and the outrage of thousands of Greenpeace supporters - is sometimes enough to move huge corporations.

We need international tinned tuna brands to follow suit in order to give sharks, turtles and juvenile tuna the break they so desperately need! That's why I am writing to you today - to ask for your help in stopping ocean destruction by Princes - a tuna supplier with an incredibly poor record for sustainability.

Act: http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/getinvolved/

Princes Tuna can change their policy and improve their sustainability.
Ask them to act now!
The majority of Princes tuna is caught using FADs (fish aggregating devices) alongside massive purse seine nets. FADs are basically death traps for endangered sharks, rays and juvenile tuna and if any company is serious about sustainability - it shouldn't have anything to do with them.

Write to Princes now and tell it to stop canning ocean destruction.

You may have already sent a letter to Princes, and if so you probably received an automated response with empty statements. But the bottom line is - Princes is still responsible for the unacceptable loss of marine life because it has yet to change its policy on FADs. You can still e-mail Princes telling it you know its dirty secret and urge it to act on its serious and genuine commitment to sustainability.

Greenpeace UK supporters have been sending complaints to their national fair trading authority pointing out that Princes has been printing false green claims on its tuna tins in the UK. Labels state "Princes is fully committed to fishing methods which protect the marine environment and marine life." And after just one day of launching this online action we received confirmation from Princes that it will be removing this statement.

Now that Princes has admitted its tuna products are unsustainable it needs to start taking measures to change the way its tuna is caught - rather than just changing its labels. With your help - we're hoping to mount enough pressure on them so that they start walking their talk.

I'm currently on the Rainbow Warrior in Taiwan. We're taking this amazing ship on a tour of East Asia rallying support for the creation of marine reserves in the Pacific Commons - one of the most important marine areas for the conservation of the world's tuna species. You can find all the updates from us on the ship including videos, photos and blogs here. And you can read more about the effect of the shifting tuna market on our campaign for healthy oceans here.

Thanks for your support! Please share this email with your friends.

Is our pressure on Costco working?
I want to thank you for being on the frontlines and helping us pressure Costco to protect the oceans by saying no to wholesale destruction. I’m hesitant, but want to share with you that it appears our pressure may be working.

https://secure3.convio.net/gpeace/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=681&s_src=topheadertestversion2&JServSessionIdr004=v5qipsttu2.app331a

Greenpeace activist surveys have revealed that several of the red list fish have disappeared from Costco store shelves. Is this a move in the right direction? A clever decoy? Or, merely a seasonal adjustment?

http://www.oh-no-costco.com/

We don’t know—because once again, Costco is hiding the truth and not being transparent. Why are they so afraid of making a public commitment to the oceans?

One thing we know is that the pressure is working—so we need your help once again. Please take action and tell Costco CEO, Jim Sinegal to stop being shifty and to stand up for the oceans by supporting positive environmental change.

Sincerely,

Casson Trenor

Peltier family accuses U.S. government of medical neglect

"A man dies from prostate cancer every 16 minutes in this country.
Why does my brother have to wait over a year to receive even
a diagnosis?"

Native American activist Leonard Peltier, who maintains his
innocence, was wrongfully convicted in connection with the shooting
deaths of two agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1977.
Imprisoned for 35 years-currently at the federal prison in Lewisburg,
Pennsylvania-Peltier has been designated a political prisoner by
Amnesty International. Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, 55 Members
of Congress and others-including a judge who sat as a member of
the court in two of Peltier's appeals-have all called for his
immediate release. Widely recognized for his humanitarian works
and a six-time Nobel Prize nominee, Peltier also is an accomplished
author and painter.

Sister Betty Solano says Peltier began exhibiting symptoms commonly
attributed to prostate cancer over a year ago. His age (he is 66
years old) and family history are risk factors for the disease.
Pressured by Peltier's attorneys, the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) ran
standard blood tests in June. Peltier received the results last
week, over four months later. A physician only now says a bi

TAKING ACTION

http://www.gp.org/action/index.shtml

The Green Party is the Peace Party, the one voice in the political array that doesn't rely on about-face justification for continuing international violence underpinning notions of a superior calling for our nation. What does that mean? On Veteran's Day, what is the price of war?

I'm from a military family. My dad went into the Navy right out of high school, and is a Pearl Harbor survivor. After the war, he went Army, to finish his twenty years. Growing up, I attended 13 schools before I finished 9th grade, most of them in rural villages, where the Nike missile base was a barracks for the privates, the missile "silo" was a cramped metal trailer, and the two families with kids were temporary outsiders.

Except for aunt Marianne, who was a navy nurse, the military didn't want women, so we four daughters were not expected to enlist. As a woman, I was often told I had no right to an opinion in favor of peace, unless I had a brother or a cousin in combat. Like many of you, I decided that the way you best fight war is to get there ten years beforehand, and prevent despair by fixing what was wrong.

My husband's family was also military. In their Appalachia, no one was drafted-- they were Volunteers. His dad never saw a plane close-up, til he climbed into one, to learn to fly it for WWII. He re-upped, and finished his military career by teaching ROTC, in a building on campus that a Quaker-led group, including me, would stumble into one day, and occupy long enough to pray for the dead, and the still living. My as-yet-unmet husband's only brother was among the unnamed for whom we prayed. His unarmed reconnaissance plane was shot down, the last fatality from Tucson. Until the next war.

How do we count the cost? There was the warrior's widow who, with two toddlers to raise alone, commenced a writing and publishing career with a Memorial Day article, asking for peace. She never remarried, and, she was eventually disabled with a brain tumor, and my husband and I became her caregivers. That is the part of the war that extends forever-- that the one who should be there to help, years later, is, instead, a name my hand touches on a Wall, as I touch the places where he should have been, and was not, and the differences that it made, to people I care deeply about, and people who will never even know that he existed.

How do we, in the Green Party, honor the vet, on this Veteran's day, the one who lived, the one who did not? I have marched so often over the years, stood in vigils, helped tie a ribbon around the Pentagon. I've been cheered, been ignored, been spit on by old men with VFW hats. My husband, too, had marched against the War, and, in haunting, last letters back, his brother blessed the marching.

The only "thank you" big enough for Veteran's Day is taking up the duty to find a better way. Praise of their courage, in a speech or a flag-colored bumper sticker, is too small. Throwing one beloved corpse upon the next, to justify having thrown the first, is sad beyond grief. The truest word is that they are lost to combat because we did not work hard enough to build a world where war was avoided, because peace was the better option.

They planted a Peace Rose on Dave's grave, but it was gone by the time we buried his wife beside him. The next year, my husband and I took my dad back to see Pearl Harbor again. And last month, my cousin Clifford's son, Aaron, was killed in Afghanistan, leaving a widow and two young children, and we all cried again.

No more names on a Wall, or bumpersticker praise for the Vet. Raise your voice. Raise our collective voices, supporting those who speak for peace, and who stand on the platform of our party to do so, and speak through the megaphone of their candidacy, and challenge the war-makers at the one place they can be displaced-- the ballot box. Ballots can unmake bullets, but only if the Party committed to peace endures, and for that, we need your support.

This is not a small thing, and we are the only political Party that does it. If our Party is silenced, then we become spectators in a stymied, broken version of democracy, and the wars go on.

Donate today. Help your Green Party make enduring peace, this Veteran's Day.

Bring Medicare for All Back to the Table

***ACTION ALERT for Single Payer***

Write Your Representative Today!

It's time to take action for SINGLE-PAYER NATIONAL HEALTH CARE!

The media are focusing on the debate between Democrats promoting Obamacare
and 'Tea Party' activists who are determined to block any health care reform at all. Whether Obamacare gets passed in Congress or Republicans succeed in defeating reform legislation, the for-profit health insurance companies will win and the rest of us will lose.

These are the worst economic times since the Great Depression and we need healthcare that is cost-effective for ALL. Single-Payer will reduce health care costs by as much as a third and reduce 'rationing' -- no more for-profit insurance company overhead, administrative costs, and skyrocketing CEO salaries. Single-Payer will allow everyone to choose their physicians and hospitals, and no American will ever again face financial ruin over an illness or injury.

Take Action now! Write your representative here!

Tell your legislators that Single Payer makes economic sense and business sense. Here are simple talking points you can use in messages to your congresspersons.

Single-payer will boost the ailing US economy and provide relief for businesses large and small, because it will cancel the high expense and administrative burden of employer-based health care.At 3% administrative costs, Medicare (which would become universal under single payer) is very efficient compared to the 15-30% administrative costs of for-profit insurance.Single-payer will relieve cities, towns and school boards from having to bear the cost of providing health insurance to employees, allowing responsible officials to reduce their budgets and lower local property taxes.Single-payer gives government and citizens a stake in preventive medicine and promotion of good health habits to keep costs down.

Don't let Democratic and Republican politicians destroy hope for real health care reform. Don't be fooled: Obamacare won't provide health care for all Americans. It will drive up heatlh care costs and impose 'mandates' that result in multi-million-dollar taxpayer-funded subsidies to insurance companies. Obamacare is not the solution. The only real solution to America's health care crisis is Single-Payer. Please write your representative

http://salsa.wiredforchange.com/o/175/t/2758/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=2980

and tell them we need Medicare for All.

Please show your support for the Green Party of the United States, the only political party that stands firmly for a Single Payer Health Care System, and for health care as a right as the most practical way to ensure our nation's health security. Your gift of any amount will strengthen the Green Party's voice for Single Payer.

Sustainers are our base of support, enabling us to count upon a base level of income each month to pay staff, sustain our Washington DC office, and support advocacy of issues like Single Payer. Many people find that it is more affordable to spread their donation out monthly. During our time together in Durham, we called for an increase in monthly sustainers from 250 to 500. With your help we can meet the $10,000 per month goal. You can start your sustainer here. If you are already a sustainer, please consider increasing your level by as much as you can by contacting Brian Bittner at brian@gp.org or 202-319-7191.

If you would prefer or are better able to give a one-time donation, your support will be put to good use as we move forward. Remember, The Green Party takes no money from real estate companies, investment firms, or insurance companies. In fact, we don't take any corporate money because we think corporate money in politics is wrong.

Today We Honor Greens

As the Nobel Prize awards continue to be announced from Oslo this week, the Green Party of the United States looks to honor those who support the Green Party despite the incredible support the international community has given to President Obama's version of "peace".

Despite Tuesday's Washington Post report that President Obama has secretly authorized 13,000 more American soldiers to continue the occupation of Afghanistan - in addition to an announced increase of over 20,000 soldiers - the Nobel Peace Prize committee chose to honor his promises to bring about change.

We honor the Green Party members, supporters, candidates, and donors who are helping create real change by supporting the real alternative to corporate, war-making politics.

The Nobel Peace Prize committee chose to honor President Obama's promise to end the American-led war in Iraq, yet over 100,000 American troops still occupy that country.

We honor the hundreds of thousands of Americans who voted for Green Party candidates in 2008 in an attempt to put real leaders into power - leaders who follow up on their promises, work for real peace, and work to save lives, not put them in harm's way.

The Nobel Peace Prize committee chose to honor President Obama's promises to work for poor people around the world, and to re-shape our economic policies to keep the rich from getting richer and the middl

We Need Your Support for Single Payer

Back to http://www.GP.org

In Durham, North Carolina this July, delegates at the Annual National Meeting of the Green Party of the United States chose working for a Single Payer Health Care System as one of the top priorities for the coming year. With your support, we can make this priority a reality.

The Green Party has taken a strong stand, based in experience, to reform our nation's health care system. All across the country, the health insurance debate rages. The debate is centered around reforming the health insurance companies.

The Green Party has a tradition of going to the root of the problem. The problem will not be addressed by making minor changes to require health insurance companies to provide a bit more health care to a few more people.... We exist not to dabble in small adjustments on the edges of corporate America, but instead to pressure for basic reforms. The Green Party honors health care as a basic right for all rather than as a rationed privilege only for those who have. We advocate for a Single Payer Health Care System. Our candidates stand firmly for Single Payer when they run for office, our elected officials stand for Single Payer when in office, and our members advocate for Single Payer in their daily lives.

The idea of health care as a right is not a radical position, but instead is part of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,

http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/

the founding document of the United Nations, of which the United States was a signatory in 1948. It states: "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services"

Our health care system in the United States is the most expensive in the world. A Single Payer system would cut the cost of health care delivery by as much as one third.

Our health care system was ranked 37th in 2000 by the World Health Organization. A Single Payer system would be able to deliver better health care to more people.

Advocating for Single Payer is a protection....

...for each of us as individuals. Our nation's health care is only as strong as the weakest link. If some of us are vulnerable to diseases such as tuberculosis, which is among us now, or to any of the predcited pandemics that will come with our population, water, and environmental challenges, then all of us are vulnerable. The future of our nation's health security lies in our willingness to address the health of the least of us .
...for our nation's businesses, so that they might more fairly compete with other nations.
...for our workers, so that they might be as productive as possible
...for our cities, towns, villages, counties, schools, so that providing health care doesn't bankrupt them.
...for our children, that they might realize a healthy future.

Please show your support for the Green Party of the United States, the only political party that stands firmly for a Single Payer Health Care System, and for health care as a right as the most practical way to ensure our nation's health security. Your gift of any amount will strengthen the Green Party's voice for Single Payer. You can donate here.

Sustainers are our base of support, enabling us to count upon a base level of income each month to pay our excellent staff, to sustain our Washington DC office, and to support advocacy of issues like Single Payer and other issues. Many people find that it is more affordable to spread their donation out monthly. During our time together in Durham, we called for an increase in monthly sustainers from 250 to 500. We want to give you an opportunity to be a part of this effort by becoming sustainers or increasing your monthly gift.

You can donate here. Remember, The Green Party takes no money from real estate companies, investment firms, or insurance companies. In fact, we don't take any corporate money because we think corporate money in politics is wrong.

You Can Help Make SinglePayer HealthCare a Reality

What's wrong with the health care reform plans supported by President Obama and Democratic leaders? The only winners under these plans are the insurance companies, HMOs, and drug manufacturers. Democrats want Americans to spend billions of dollars extra every year for health care, rather than just eliminate the bureaucracy, paperwork, waste, and high CEO salaries of for-profit insurance. The Democrats' proposed 'mandate' would mean massive taxpayer subsidies for the insurance industry. The 'public option' won't reduce health care costs, and would only cover 10 million people out of the 50 million without insurance. President Obama and the Democrats have already caved in to drug industry pressure on re-importing Canadian drugs, on negotiating for lower drug prices, and on generics.

WE DEMAND universal health care under the SINGLE-PAYER NATIONAL HEALTH CARE PLAN (HR 676)!

WE DEMAND that single-payer be placed on the table in the health care reform debate. (Senator Max Baucus, chair of the Senate Finance Committee, says that single-payer is "off the table.")

WE DEMAND that Democrats, Republicans, and the media stop telling lies about single-payer universal health care. (Single-payer is NOT "socialized medicine"!)

WE DEMAND a televised national debate between advocates and opponents of single-payer, so Americans can hear the truth about universal health care.

WE DEMAND new studies by the GAO and Congressional Budget Office on the cost of single-payer. In the 1990s, analyses by these offices showed that single-payer would save billions of dollars in health care expenses.

For more information on Single-Payer go to the Physicians for a National Health Program website.

http://www.pnhp.org/facts/singlepayer_faq.php

How can you help? Send a letter to the editor of your newspaper. Below is a sample for you to use as a guideline. Remember - it is best to keep letters as brief as possible.

Dear Editor:

What do the Democrats holding town hall meetings and the mobs trying to disrupt the meetings have in common? No matter which side wins, millions of Americans will still go without coverage, hundreds of thousands will go into financial ruin over health care costs, and insurance CEOs will laugh their way to the bank. Don't be fooled by the Obamacare plan for 'mandates' and promises of a 'public option', which mean continued skyrocketing health care costs and huge taxpayer-funded subsidies to insurance companies.

The only real solution to the health care crisis is the single-payer plan, which covers every American regardless of income, age, or prior medical condition. Under single-payer, physicians and patients make decisions about medical care, not government or corporate bureaucracies, and everyone can choose his or her own health care provider. As GAO and Congressional Budget Office studies have shown in the past, single-payer will save billions in health care spending, because it eliminates the administrative costs, waste, and high CEO salaries of for-profit health insurance.

Single-payer could be Congress's gift to working people and businesses alike. Single-payer will boost the economy by relieving businesses large and small of the costly burden of providing health benefits.

Whether the Obama/Dem plan passes or Republicans get their way and no health care reform is passed, health insurance companies will win and the American people will lose. The health of the American people is more important than corporate profits. Let's make health care a right for everyone and pass HR 676, the single-payer bill.

If your letter is published, please send a link or copy to gpinfo@gp.org.

Help us keep the vision of single-payer health care alive. Donate what you can to strengthen our voice so that we can make our vision a reality. If you have given recently, please consider giving more. And, if you haven't given in some time, please consider making today the day you give.

If you can only afford a little each month, you can become a monthly sustainer so your donation can be spread over time. Help us reach our goal of 500 monthly sustainers by 2010.

Click here to help make our voice stronger with your contribution or monthly donation. Our accountability to future generations depends upon what we do today.

Annual National Meeting Huge Success

Back to GP.org

We have just come from the Green Party of the United States'(GPU Annual
National Meeting at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in Durham, North
Carolina. The meeting was attended by delegates from over 30 afflliated state
Green Parties and caucuses, as well as other party leaders, candidates,
officeholders, and observers. The North Carolina Greens and NCCU did an
excellent job hosting us. We had great places to meet and sleep, wonderful
food, and warm hospitality. Those attending commented on how well organized it
was, and how inspired they were by the events and sessions.

Friday afternoon, Dr. Jonathan Kotch, Board President of Health Care for All NC
and senior faculty member at the UNC Gillings School and of Global Public Health
and Dr. Justine McCabe, former co-chair of the Green Party of Connecticut and
Ph.D. alumna of Duke University were among those who spoke at a forum on health
care reform and the need for a Single-Payer National Healthcare plan. You can
view the video here.

http://www.gp.org/video/durham.shtml

On Friday night, Jesse Johnson, of the West Virginia Mountain Party, gave a talk
about the catastrophic effects of mountaintop removal by the coal mining
industry. His speech was followed by a screening of the new documentary 'Coal
Country: Rising Up Against Mountaintop Removal Mining'. For more information

Our Saturday session focused on messaging. Delegates brainstormed and then
prioritized issues upon which the party will focus: Single Payer; Food, Water
and Energy; and Human Rights. These messaging priorities will help us develop
a clear voice on relevant issues to support our candidates, help frame the
political dialogue, and put pressure on those in government to bring us closer
to a sustainable world.

Saturday afternoon, Cynthia McKinney addressed meeting attendees via live
stream. She discussed her recent efforts with the Free Gaza Movement and Viva
Palestina to bring medical and other supplies to Gaza in the wake of Israel's
invasion last winter. She and other Free Gaza activists were aboard the Spirit
of Humanity when it was seized by Israeli gunboats (http://www.freegaza.org),
but a Viva Palestina convoy succeeded in delivering supplies last week
(http://www.vivapalestina.org). You can view her talk here.

There were great workshops throughout the meeting. The Green Party Black Caucus
hosted several workshops including one focused on ways to advance the Green
Party's support for Reparations. Other workshops covered campaign skills,
fundraising, ballot access, candidate recruitment, high speed rail
transportation, Green economics, and many more topics. You can see video of

Keep the Heat on Bill Maher

On June 19th, Bill Maher (former host of Politically Incorrect and current host of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher) asked his viewers "Shouldn't there be one party that unambiguously supports cutting the military budget, a party that is straight up in favor of gun control, gay marriage, higher taxes on the rich, universal health care - legalizing pot - and steep, direct taxing of polluters?" Seeing ourselves in his description of a truly progressive party, the Green Party of the United States wrote an open letter to Bill Maher asking him to invite Green Party representatives and candidates on his show.

We asked you to help convince Bill Maher to invite us, and you responded! Now we need you to keep the heat on BIll Maher. Call his show's studio at (323) 575-2345 and ask the switchboard operator for the production office of Real Time with Bill Maher. Then ask him to invite America's true progressive party - the Green Party - on his show. You can also e-mail Real Time and ask to see the Green Party on the air - over 1,000 of you already have!

We Need You to Keep the Green Party Strong!

What can you do now?
Donate what you can to strengthen our voice so that we can make our vision a reality. If you have given recently, please consider giving more. And if you haven't given in some time, please consider making today the day you give.

Make a commitment to help monthly.
If you can only afford a little each month, you can become a monthly sustainer. Sustainers help the party maintain a steady income by donating every month with a credit or debit card. This July, Keep the Heat on Bill Maher

We need your help to keep the heat on Bill Maher. Call (323) 575-2345 and ask for the production office of Real Time with Bill Maher. Or you can email HBO producers here.

Ask them to have Green Party representatives on the show and to read the party's open letter

http://www.gp.org/press/pr-national.php?ID=231

to Bill Maher.

The Green Party sent an open letter to Bill Maher after a June 19 broadcast of Real Time in which Mr. Maher said "[W]hat we need is an actual progressive party to represent the millions of Americans who aren't being served by the Democrats. Because, bottom line, Democrats are the new Republicans."

The Green Party's reply to Mr. Maher: "Hey, Bill, we're over here! What you described is the GREEN PARTY! We already exist!"

Bill Maher, former host of Politically Incorrect and current host of HBO's Real Time, asked "Shouldn't there be one party that unambiguously supports cutting the military budget, a party that is straight up in favor of gun control, gay marriage, higher taxes on the rich, universal health care - legalizing pot - and steep, direct taxing of polluters? These aren't radical ideas. A majority of Americans are either already for them or would be if they were properly argued and defended."

Sound like any party you know?

Real Time with Bill Maher will be back with new episodes later this month, and we want to see Green Party representatives on it. We need more television personalities willing to ask if Americans are getting the change they voted for last November, and we deserve someone willing to let a true opposition air their views.

So all we need is a few minutes of your time to call (323) 575-2345 and tell Bill Maher that you want to see the Green Party on the air! Or you can email HBO producers and tell them that you want to see the Green Party on Real Time by

500 Days to Mid-Term Elections

Back to GP.org

The 2010 elections offer an unprecedented opportunity for the Green Party. In the 2010 election cycle we will have the chance to get the Green message out and to hold the corporate parties accountable. Now more than ever our country needs an alternative that will fight for a Single Payer system, to bring ALL of our troops home from Afghanistan and Iraq, to take serious action on global warming, to bail out Americans who are suffering from the worst recession in nearly three decades, and to create a banking system that works for all of us and not just Wall Street.

The Democratically-controlled Congress has failed us on all these counts. Next year the entire House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate is up for election. In addition, 37 states will be electing Governors. Seats for other statewide officials will be up for election. These elections provide the Green Party with many opportunities to win and maintain ballot lines. The more ballot lines we win in 2010, the more opportunities citizens will have to vote for a sustainable and just future and the stronger we will be when we go into the 2012 elections.

In 2006, in spite of being badly outspent by his Democratic and Republican challengers, and a frivolous Democratic Party challenge to Green Party nomination signatures, Rich Whitney ran a strong race for Governor of Illinois. He won 10% of the vote - twice what was needed to secure the Illinois Green Party ballot line. This success enabled the Illinois Greens to hold their first Presidential primary and guaranteed a spot on the ballot for Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente. Winning a ballot line also allowed Illinois Greens to run a record 60 candidates in 2008.

Jill Stein got 18% in a two-way race for Secretary of State in Massachusetts; her campaign won the Green Rainbow Party of Massachusetts a Presidential primary and put Cynthia and Rosa on the ballot in 2008. Craig Bergland's campaign for Governor won back our ballot line in Nevada and gave us another state we didn't have to petition in last year.

Last year, your donations were vital in getting Cynthia and Rosa on the ballot in Arizona and Virginia - two states where voters did not have the opportunity to vote Green in 2004! Your support also won ballot access for the Arkansas Greens, who were the ONLY opposition to House and Senate incumbents in 2008.

With your help, we can win ballot access across America. Your donations will help put Green candidates on national, state, and local ballots. Help us meet the ballot challenges in 2010: 43,000 signatures in Texas, 15,000 signatures in New York, 10,000 signatures in Missouri. Although volunteers are instrumental, paid petitioners will also be needed. Each dollar you give can help get us one signature closer to ballot access.

With your help, we can build stronger state parties, recruit more candidates to run as Greens, get ballot access, and provide the American people with a choice for a sustainable and just future. Please give generously today!

Greens Win in June 9th Elections

The Green Party had a very successful election day on June 9th, winning four of five races. Three Greens ran for City of Portland (ME) Charter Commission. Ben Chipman, running in District 1, won his race with 62% of the vote. Anna Trevorrow, running for an at-large seat, won her seat with almost 13% of the vote amongst a field of eight candidates. Dan Jenkins, running in District 2, came very close to winning with 45.5% of the vote. Congratulations to two Green members of the City of Portland Charter Commission!

In Whately, Massachusetts, two Greens became (we believe) the first husband-and-wife team of Green officeholders. Nate Fortune was re-relected to the Whately Elementary School Committee, and Joyce Palmer-Fortune won her race for Whately Select Board. Congratulations to Nate and Joyce for helping turn Whately, MA Green!

Single-Payer Now!

Back to GP.org

Our country has the most expensive health care system in the world, yet we were ranked 37th by the World Health Organization in 2000.

The Green Party advocates for health care as a right for all, and we support a Single-Payer system as the most efficient and effective way to get there. We are the only political party to do so. A Single-Payer system would eliminate the for-profit insurance companies, lower the cost of health care in the United States by as much as one third, and would remove the financial burden on businesses suffering from the recent economic meltdown - replacing employee-based health care benefits.

But Single-Payer has been barred from the public debate because of the influence of insurance, HMO's, and pharmaceutical lobbies through campaign contributions, 'astroturf' (false grassroots) operations, and dishonest advertising.

The health care reform debate demonstrates why America desperately needs an independent noncorporate party. Democratic and Republican politicians are swimming in campaign donations from the insurance industry, receiving over $46 million in insurance money in 2008. There is no Single-Payer voice at the table.

Help us work to bring a Single-Payer voice to the table by donating to the Green Party of the United States.

Our media coordinator, Scott McLarty, recently wrote an OpEd piece entitled "Fire Departments and Health Care'. You can read it here.

We need Green voices in this nation! We need Green legislators in Congress! Contribute to keep the Green Party strong. Remember, we are the only party that supports Single-Payer and health care as a right for all.

Help us hold that vision of single-payer health care alive. Donate what you can to strengthen our voice so that we can make our vision a reality. If you have given recently, please consider giving more. And, if you haven't given in some time, please consider making today the day you give.

If you can only afford a little each month, you can become a monthly sustainer so your donation can be spread over time.

Record Number of Greens Running in '09
Green Parties across the U.S. are running a record number of candidates in local and state elections. Fewer elections are scheduled in odd-numbered years, but that hasn't stopped over 100 Greens from running for office in 2009 elections. In 2005, 69 candidates had declared their run by the middle of May. In 2007, that number was 74. So far in 2009, 119 candidates have declared their runs. That's 119 people (and their volunteers) asking for votes, asking for financial support, and letting their communities know that the Green Party is ready to step up and lead.

It's not too late to declare your candidacy! Call or visit your town's website to see if school board, city council, county board, or soil, water, air, or utility board elections are scheduled for this year. Find out how to file a candidacy, get local Greens involved, and let your state and national Green Party know you are running! It's also not to early to start planning a run for 2010.

If you can't run this year, help out a candidate who is. To find out if any candidates are running near you, check our comprehensive online elections database. Remember to get out and vote Green in 2009!

Green Party Says Goodbye to Emily Citkowski
The Green Party of the United States' Operations Director, Emily Citkowski, is leaving this month after nearly six years with the party. She started working for GPUS in November of 2003 and coordinated day-to-day operations at the national office through two Presidential campaigns, five national meetings, and several location changes.

After leaving a regional labor organization to direct operations for the Green Party, she is returning to work for a national labor advocacy group and then to law school shortly thereafter.

Emily remarked: "I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work for the Green Party as a staffer. During my time on staff I was constantly amazed, inspired, energized and sustained by dedication and creativity of our volunteers, candidates, officeholders and grassroots activists. Our party will not just survive but thrive on this kind of people-power and I look forward to being part of it as a volunteer. I'll miss working with my colleagues at the national office, but have no doubt they'll get along fine without me."

In addition to her duties as Operations Director, Emily played a key role on the Merchandise and Outreach Committees. She will continue with her GPUS committee work, as well as her efforts with the DC Statehood Green Party.

Congratulations and thanks for many years of service can be e-mailed to Emily at emily@gp.org.

Not Good Enough

http://socialentrepreneurship.change.org/actions/view/not_good_enough

http://www.gp.org/index.php

We need your help. Given the world that is fast coming upon us, we need to take full measures, not half-steps, in order to create a livable and sustainable world. That is the essence of the Green Party. After 100 days of Obama's presidency, it has become clear that we are a far cry from where we need to be as far as civil liberties, the environment, the economy, health care, and the military. The Green Party has real solutions to the problems at hand. Please look over the 100 Day Report Card below. Keep in mind that C is "good enough"; in percentages, in order to get a "better than average" grade, you need to score 80%.

Is the Obama administration doing "good enough" or "better than average"? We don't think so! If you see your vision reflected below, donate what you can to ensure that the Green Party is strong and able to put the necessary pressure on our monied system.

Civil liberties: F
The Executive Branch is finally following the law by releasing and repudiating the Bush Administration's legal memos that attempted to justify torture. The President also raised the possibility of prosecuting those responsible for providing that justification.

However, the Obama Administration defends the illegal wiretapping program, leaves the door open to outsourcing torture through "extraordinary rendition", and argues that prisoners can be denied habeas corpus if they are shipped to the Bagram prison in Afghanistan instead of Guantanamo! The Administration also opposes a Congressional truth commission to investigate torture by the Bush Presidency, although citizen pressure may successfully force an investigation.

Obama supporter Glenn Greenwald, who writes for Salon.com, recently wrote: "What's being asserted here by the Obama DOJ is the virtually absolute power of presidential secrecy, the right to break the law with no consequences, and immunity from surveillance lawsuits so sweeping that one can hardly believe that it's being claimed with a straight face."

The Green Party supports a ban on torture, the repeal of the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act of 2006, and opposes the warrantless surveillance of US citizens, 'extraordinary rendition' of prisoners to extract information, and denial of habeas corpus and due process.

Environment: D+
The Obama Administration has taken some positive steps on global warming by allowing the EPA to regulate greenhouse gases as pollutants, initiating legislation to reduce greenhouse gases, and providing funds for alternative energy in the recently passed economic stimulus bill.

Unfortunately, the Administration has committed to spending only $145 billion on alternative energy over the next 10 years, about 0.1% of our country's gross domestic product (GDP). In contrast, the proposed military budget for 2010 alone is $664 billion. The Administration supports nuclear power and "clean" coal, and its proposed cap and trade scheme is vulnerable to abuses such as free giveaway licenses for utilities to emit greenhouse gases. In the European Union, free licenses have resulted in increased emissions from coal plants that have offset the reductions gained from new wind power.

The Green Party advocates a moratorium on new coal fired power plants, ending subsidies to the nuclear and fossil fuel industries, increasing CAFÉ standards, and ending mountaintop removal mining.

Economy: D-
The Obama Administration's economic stimulus bill is headed in the right direction with new infrastructure projects that can put Americans back to work. Plans to let the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy expire are also encouraging.

However, the stimulus was too small and too focused on tax cuts. The Administration's plans for repairing the financial system are likely to result in a great deal of wasteful spending, reward those who got us into the current economic crisis, and ignore the fundamental problems. It is unfortunate that the Administration has rejected calls to nationalize the largest and most insolvent banks in favor of a plan that loans nearly $1 trillion to hedge funds to indirectly subsidize the banks. By contrast, Wall Street Journal recently reported that only "10% of borrowers in some stage of foreclosure appear to be eligible for the federal aid to homeowners program."

The Green Party advocates ending trade in the highly speculative financial instruments that helped cause the crisis, restoring regulations on banks, breaking up financial conglomerates, promoting small local banks and credit unions, implementing a much larger public works program, and working to build a steady state economy based upon sustainability.

Health Care: D+
The Obama Administration has proposed substantial increases in federal spending in order to extend health coverage to more Americans. The Administration's spending plans will extend coverage only to about one-half of uninsured Americans and are short of effective methods for cost control.

The Green Party continues to advocate the single-payer health care systems as the most efficient and effective way to deliver health care to all Americans

Foreign policy/military: D
The Obama Administration has taken a few encouraging steps, such as starting to at least open talks with foreign leaders. The President has shown an increased willingness to negotiate with Iran, and has stated plans to discuss nuclear arms reductions with Russia. However, there are numerous loopholes in the agreement to withdraw all troo

The Change America Needs
Back to GP.org
Dear james m,

This week, the Obama Administration rolled out a plan to throw another trillion dollars at banks. That's $1,000,000,000,000, going to companies largely responsible for the current recession.

http://www.gp.org/action/index.shtml

Government should be holding the financial sector accountable for the damage that's been done to the economy, for the millions of lost jobs in recent months. Government should be directly helping people at risk, many of whom made no substantial mistakes but have lost their jobs or their savings anyway. But government is prioritizing Wall Street over Main Street.

This isn't the change that so many Americans clamored for a few short months ago. This new wrinkle to trickle-down economics isn't going to inspire hope.

The real change is the change offered by the Green Party. The real hope is in the Green Party's genuine vision for a sustainable future.

The Green Party needs your help to make this sustainable future a reality. Unlike the other parties, we don't take contributions from the corporations we're forking billions of dollars over to. In fact, we don't take contributions from any corporations at all. So we are extremely reliant on average Americans, the very people facing uncertain futures right now.

This is why we urge those of you who are able to give to the Green Party of the United States today. We too are facing mounting bills and pressure to stay afloat through the down cycle in the economy. And we understand too that many other groups are facing similar prospects and have similar needs. We can't say that those other groups aren't important. But we can say why the Green Party is, and why the success of the Green Party is so critical as our nation teeters.

The Green Party is still the largest political party in the United States which is dedicated to establishing Single Payer Universal Health Coverage. As more people lose their jobs, the necessity for access to health care becomes increasingly dire, but the Obama Administration keeps signaling new handouts to insurance companies as their preferred option. Green momentum is critical to push Washington toward the solution that people actually want.

The Green Party is still demanding that we get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, slash the Pentagon's budget, and use that money to help the American people. But the Obama Administration hedges on Iraq, and sends more combat troops to Afghanistan, while expanding the war across the Pakistani border. This is costing more American lives and billions of American dollars. Green momentum is essential to confront Obama with the reality that he's not doing what the people want.

Without the Green voice calling out the federal government on economic policy, health care, and foreign policy, the corporate voices ring that much louder. We can't afford for them to pocket any more of our money - and be sure that we'll be paying for all of it.

Please support the Green Party of the United States today. If you haven't given in some time, please consider making today the day you give. If you've given recently, please consider giving more. We need your help to make the Green voice as strong as it can be so we can contest what's happening to our country.

If you can only afford a little each month, you can become a monthly sustainer so your donation can be spread over time.

Click here to help make our voice stronger with your contribution or monthly donation.

GP RELEASE Greens blast EPA lack of preparedness in handling TVA's coal ash spill
GREEN PARTY OF THE UNITED STATES

Greens blast EPA lack of preparedness in handling TVA plant's coal ash spill

• The hazardous waste disaster is evidence that the US should stop using coal to generate electricity, say Greens

WASHINGTON, DC -- Green Party leaders strongly criticized the Environmental Protection Agency's response to the recent spill of 5.4 million cubic yards of coal ash from the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Kingston Fossil Plant.

"The EPA has failed to follow through on its stated intention to regulate coal ash as hazardous waste," said Frank Jeffers of the Green Party's Eco-Action Committee (http://www.gp.org/committees/ecoaction/index.php). "Nationwide, how big is this mess? Very very big. There are thousands of coal waste sites all over the country, and when it comes to coal wastes, you can figure about anything that could be in it, is in it."

According to a December 29 article in The New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/30/us/30sludge.html), byproducts from the Kingston plant in just one year include "45,000 pounds of arsenic, 49,000 pounds of lead, 1.4 million pounds of barium, 91,000 pounds of chromium and 140,000 pounds of manganese. Those metals can cause cancer, liver damage and neurological complications, among other health problems."

As a result of the spill, the toxins have now been poured into a 400 acre area, rendering the land uninhabitable.

Greens called the spill a preventable disaster, noting that if the EPA had implemented its recommendation in 2000 to label coal ash as a hazardous waste, the coal ash would have been contained in a pond with a composite liner system.

According to the Times article, the EPA backed off this recommendation "in the face of industry opposition, promising instead to issue national guidelines for proper ash disposal, though it never did."

"The enforcement of such guidelines is not optional. Safe drinking water standards are not optional. Such cowardice in the face of industry pressure is unacceptable. Americans deserve a strong advocate for their health and the health of their environment," said Linda Cree, co-chair of the Eco-Action Committee.

Greens called on President-elect Obama's chosen EPA administrator, Lisa P. Jackson, to:

• Label coal ash as hazardous waste

• Retrofit all coal ash ponds and coal ash landfills with composite liner systems

• Require a complete and accurate inventory of coal combustion waste (CCW) sites, including abandoned sites

• Issue public advisories on the hazards posed to communities by all CCW sites

• Relocate and reimburse local residents impacted by the sludge

• Mitigate damage to local water supplies and establish a local environmental advocate to monitor water quality

Green Party leaders said that the sheer size of the Kingston coal ash spill, estimated to be more than 40 times larger than the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska, is evidence that the US should begin to phase out the use of coal to generate electricity.

The Green Party has long advocated phasing out existing coal plants and a ban on new ones, part of an aggressive national policy based on conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy. See the Green Party EcoAction Committee's "First 100 Days Energy and Environmental Policy" (http://www.gp.org/committees/ecoaction/documents/First_100_Days.pdf).

"With more than 400 coal power plants in the US, the odds of a disaster of this magnitude occurring again are alarmingly high. To safeguard our shared natural heritage, we must adopt the EPA's prior recommendation that coal ash be treated as hazardous waste and contained as such. Anything less, in the face of foreseeable catastrophe, is irresponsible," said Art Browning, member of the Harris County (Texas) Green Party and producer of Greenwatch Live! (Houston Public Access TV). Mr. Browning witnessed the dangerous effects of fly ash from a coal-fired electricity generation plant in Kingston, Tennessee, where he grew up.

Green Party condemns Israel's massive air attack on Gaza, calls on US to rein in Israel and seek a ceasefire

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Green Party of the United States calls for an immediate end to Israel's bombing attacks on Gaza, which in the past four days has already caused at least 364 deaths, including Palestinian women and children, with hundreds more wounded.

"It's clear that President Bush gave a green light for Israel's massive and disproportionate display of force. The Green Party demands that the US seek a bilateral ceasefire, with immediate pressure on Israel to stop the bombardment and end the occupation," said Rosa Clemente, the Green Party's 2008 candidate for Vice President of the United States

Cynthia McKinney, the Green Party's 2008 presidential candidate, had joined the Free Gaza Groupon the SS Dignity, which sailed from Cyprus to deliver three tons of medicine and humanitarian aid to Gaza in defiance of an Israeli blockade. Ms. McKinney was safe after Israeli gunboats attempted to intercept the Dignity last night and one gunboat illegally rammed the vessel in international waters, 90 miles off the Gaza coast. GREEN PARTY OF THE UNITED STATES MEDIA RELEASE

Enacting a single-payer health care program will boost the ailing US economy, say Greens

-Single-payer plan would remove the expensive burden of employer-based health coverage

-Greens see danger that progressive groups, unions will acquiesce to the Obama's 'life-support for insurance industry' plan

WASHINGTON, DC -- Green Party leaders urged Americans to take up President-elect Barack Obama's call for discussion on health care and demand a single-payer national health care program, also called Medicare For All.

Greens said that the current financial crisis is an ideal time to introduce single-payer.

"Businesses have been burdened for decades with the high expense and administrative burden of employer-based health care benefits. Single-payer will alleviate the burden and stimulate the economy. It will also cost working people far less than they now pay for private coverage. Businesses large and small, unions, and all middle- and low-income working Americans will benefit from single-payer," said Sanda Everette, co-chair of the Green Party of the United States.

Greens have taken the lead on single-payer in many states. Party leaders Gloria Mattera and Peter LaVenia are co-sponsors of Single Payer New York, Mark Dunlea is one of the organizers, and gp.org webmaster David Doonan manages the group's site (http://singlepayernewyork.org).

"Mr. Obama asks Americans to send their ideas to him about how to fix health care. Now is the time for organizations and Americans who support single-payer to tell the President-elect that single-payer is the only acceptable solution," said Carl Romanelli, former Green candidate for the US Senate and Northeastern Pennsylvania coordinator for the PA single payer movement (http://www.healthcare4allpa.org).

"The greatest danger is that the sense of exhilaration and relief that greeted Mr. Obama's election will turn into acquiescence to his mandate plan for health care reform," added John Battista, MD, Green Party member and Coordinator of the Connecticut Coalition for Universal Health Care. "That's what happened in 1993 after Bill Clinton was elected, setting back the chance for single-payer for more than a decade. Like Mr. Clinton and every Democratic presidential nominee for the past two decades, Mr. Obama would leave the private insurance industry in control of our health care."

"Will Barack Obama stand with the American people and make quality health care a right for all by saying no to for-profit health insurance?" asked Mr. Dunlea, who attended a recent Healthcare Now national gathering in Chicago and proposed placing 20,000 single payer signs at the inauguration. "Or will he allow health insurance companies to continue to make profits by denying consumers access to coverage? Doctors say yes to single-payer, nurses say yes to single-payer, and the American public says yes to single-payer in every poll despite the denials from politicians and the media. Will Mr. Obama say, Yes we can?"

Green Party leaders urged progressive and consumer groups and unions not to repeat mistakes made during the first Clinton term, when many of them dropped their demand for single-payer and endorsed the Clinton 'managed care' plan, which would have herded Americans into coverage under a handful of the largest private insurance companies. President Clinton rejected single-payer, and support for national health insurance was deleted from the Democratic Party platform during the Clinton Administration. As a result, health care reform languished while the number of uncovered Americans grew and even those with coverage have been increasingly denied treatment.

The Obama plan includes similar mandates and attempts to compensate insurance firms and HMOs for heavy regulation by giving them huge subsidies.

"The Obama plan is a scheme to sustain insurance companies and HMOs with our tax dollars. It reciprocates the hundreds of thousands of dollars that these corporations contribute to Democratic candidates every election cycle. Insurance companies and HMOs have a financial interest in excluding 'high risk' people -- the old, the poor, those with prior medical conditions -- and limiting treatment for those who have coverage in order to maximize profits. Why should we pay off insurance companies and HMOs to cover the excluded, when we can save hundreds of billions annually by covering everyone with a single-payer plan?" said Green Party co-chair Jill Bussiere.

Single-payer/Medicare For All would cover all Americans regardless of income, employment, residence, age, or prior medical condition, while allowing choice of health care provider. In 2003, the New England Journal of Medicine published an article estimating that Single-Payer could cut health care costs by $350 billion annually (http://www.pnhp.org/publications/nejmadmin.pdf).

Illinois Green Party Statement on Arrest of Gov. Rod Blagojevich

We in the Illinois Green Party are deeply troubled by the arrest of Governor Rod Blagojevich and his chief-of-staff John Harris. The Governor is charged with attempting to personally profit from his power to appoint a person to the U.S. Senate. While we recognize that the accused are innocent until proven guilty, we must also admit that we are not surprised by these allegations. We have seen a long pattern of pay-to-play from Blagojevich, and indeed, a long pattern of pay-to-play throughout Illinois politics for years. The long sordid history of corruption in Illinois must finally come to an end.

The Green Party has always stood for accountability, transparency, and clean government through clean elections. We reject all corporate campaign contributions, advocate for public financing, and have long pushed for at least caps on individual contributions, so that our elections will no longer be pay-to-play.

We call on the Illinois General Assembly to hold an emergency session to:

1) Develop legislation to give the people of Illinois the ability to recall their public officials;

2) Consider the impeachment of Governor Blagojevich;

3) Amend Illinois statute to provide for an open process for filling this and future U.S. Senate seats, preferably through a special election, as the process for filling the current vacancy has been irrevocably tainted;

4) Reform the campaign finance system, banning all corporate campaign contributions, and installing caps on individual contributions;

5) Further reform the campaign finance system to eliminate pay-for-play, by barring or severely limiting contributions from political appointees, and mandating that political committees return donations made from individuals subsequently appointed to public office, boards, or commissions.

These are the first steps which need to be taken to help instill integrity, transparency, and accountability to our state government.

Greens offer six big steps for economic recovery

• Greens support workers occupying a factory in Chicago after layoff: bailout money isn't being used to help working Americans

WASHINGTON, DC -- Green Party leaders said today that the incoming Obama Administration and Congress should take six major steps to reverse the financial meltdown and restore financial security for Americans.

The steps include a Green public works program, aid for state and muncipal governments, expansion of mass transit, Single-Payer health care, a peace dividend gained by ending the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, and an end to the wasteful war on drugs.

Green Party candidates running for local, state, and national office in 2008 promoted many of these ideas even before the crisis precipitated. In September, Cynthia McKinney published a ten-point list of solutions and reforms in response to the Wall Street meltdown, titled "Seize the Time" (http://votetruth08.com/index.php/learn/mckinney-messages).

Greens expressed support for United Electrical Workers union members occupying a Republic Windows and Doors plant in Chicago after the plant was shut down and they were laid off with three days' notice and told they had no assurance of receiving severance and unused vacation pay. The company's creditor, Bank of America, received $25 billion from the government's financial bailout package. Greens said that the bank's actions, including refusal to allow Republic to give workers 60 days notice (as required by law), demonstrates how bailout money isn't being used to assist working Americans facing financial hardship.

Six Green steps for economic recovery:

(1) Enact a massive Green public works program, creating new living-wage jobs in conservation (including weatherization and energy retro-fitting); clean and safe energy technologies to replace fossil fuel and nuclear sources and create a carbon-free economy; repair and improvement of America's deteriorating infrastructure (especially water and sewer systems); and improvement of public schools and Green job training programs.

"The collapse of the I-35 bridge in Minneapolis in 2007 was a result of the neglect and starvation of funds for maintaining infrastructure that was built decades ago. The ideology of privatization and hostility to 'big government' is no longer tenable during the financial crisis -- the current White House and Congress conceded as much when they began pushing for bailouts. Public works programs built America, and public works, with hundreds of thousands of new Green jobs, is what America needs now for economic recovery," said Rosa Clemente, the Green Party's 2008 candidate for Vice President (http://www.rosaclemente.com).

"We're encouraged that President-elect Obama intends to

Text of Cynthia McKinney's speech prepared for conference in Damascus on Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the denial of the Right of Return for Palestinians

• McKinney was blocked from leaving the US and unable to deliver the speech in person

WASHINGTON, DC -- 2008 Green presidential candidate and former six-term Congress member Cynthia McKinney has published the text of her speech prepared for a conference in Damascus, Syria, in commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the denial of the Right of Return for Palestinians, in violation of the Universal Declaration.

Ms. McKinney was unable to deliver the speech, because she was detained at the Atlanta airport under circumstances that haven't yet been made clear.

The text of Ms. McKinney's speech, preceded by an introduction, follows below.

Cynthia McKinney
November 23, 2008
http://www.allthingscynthiamckinney.com

Today, November 23rd, I was slated to give remarks in Damascus, Syria at a Conference being held to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and, sadly, the 60th year that the Palestinian people have been denied their Right of Return enshrined in that Universal Declaration. But a funny thing happened to me while at the Atlanta airport on my way to the Conference: I was not allowed to exit the country.

I do believe that it was just a misunderstanding. But the insecurity experienced on a daily basis by innocent Palestinians is not. Innocent Palestinians are trapped in a violent, stateless twilight zone imposed on them by an international order that favors a country reported to have completed its nuclear triad as many as eight years ago, although Israel has remained ambiguous on the subject. President Jimmy Carter informed us that Israel had as many as 150 nuclear weapons, and Israel’s allies are among the most militarily sophisticated on the planet. Military engagement, then, is untenable. Therefore the exigency of diplomacy and international law.

The Palestinians should at least be able to count on the protections of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. What is happening to Palestinians in Gaza right now, subjected to an Israeli-imposed blockade, has drawn the attention of the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, who noted that over half of the civilians in Gaza are children. Even The Los Angeles Times criticized Israel’s lockdown of Gaza that is keeping food, fuel, and medicine from civilians. Even so, Israel stood fast by its decision to seal Gaza’s openings. But where are the voices of concern coming from the corridors of power inside the United States? Is the subject of Palestinian human rights taboo inside the United States Government and its government-to- be? I hope not. Following is the speech I would have given today had I been able to attend the Damascus Conference.

Cynthia McKinney
Right of Return Congregation
Damascus, Syria
November 23, 2008

Thank you to our hosts for inviting me to participate in this most important and timely First Arab-International Congregation for the Right of Return. Words are an insufficient expression of my appreciation for being remembered as one willing to stand for justice in Washington, D.C., even in the face of tremendously difficult pressures.

Former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir, thank you for including me in the Malaysian Peace Organisation’s monumental effort to criminalize war, to show the horrors of the treatment of innocent individuals during the war against and occupation of Iraq by the militaries and their corporate contractors of Britain, Israel, and the United States. Thank you for standing up to huge international economic forces trying to dominate your country and showing an impressionable woman like me that it is possible to stand up to “the big boys” and win. And thank you for your efforts to bring war criminal, torturer, decimator of the United States Constitution, the George W. Bush Administration, to justice in international litigation.

Delegates and participants, I must declare that at a time when scientists agree that the climate of the earth is changing in unpredictable and possibly calamitous ways, such that the future of humankind hangs in the balance, it is unconscionable that we have to dedicate this time to and focus our energies on policies that represent a blatant and utter disregard for human rights and self-determination and that represent in many respects, a denial of human life, itself.

In the same year as Palestinians endured a series of massacres and expulsions, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights became international law. And while the United Nations is proud that the Declaration was flown into Outer Space just a few days ago on the Space Shuttle, if one were to read it and then land in the Middle East, I think it would be clear that Palestine is the place that the Universal Declaration forgot.

Sadly, both the spirit of the Universal Declaration for Human Rights and the noblest ideals of the United Nations are broken. This has occurred in large measure due to policies that emanate from Washington, D.C. If we want to change those policies, and I do believe that we can, then we have to change the underlying values of those who become Washington’s policy makers. In other words, we must launch the nec

Greens focus on electing Malik Rahim, Louisiana Green Party candidate for the US House on Dec. 6

• Rahim, co-founder of the Common Ground Collective, receives Thomas Merton Award for his relief work in the aftermath of Katrina

• Video clip: Rahim's keynote speech at the Green Party's 2008 National Convention, July 12 in Chicago http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7226475852159421918

WASHINGTON, DC -- Green Party leaders are focusing on the campaign to elect Malik Rahim, Louisiana Green candidate for the US House in New Orleans (District 2) (http://www.votemalik.com), urging local and national support and assistance for Mr. Rahim.

The election for the 2nd District US House seat will take place on December 6 instead of November 4 because of election delays caused by Hurricanes Gustave and Ike.  District 2 is currently represented by William Jefferson, who is facing trial on 16 counts of corruption.

"Malik Rahim is more than just a welcome change from Rep. Jefferson and the corrupt political culture he represents.  New Orleans voters have a chance to elect a hero who organized thousands of Common Ground volunteers to provide food, health care, and other basic services to hurricane victims in the wake of Hurricane Katrina," said Jody Grage, treasurer of the Green Party of the United States.  "We're encouraging Greens and friends all over the US to donate to his campaign, and those who can get to New Orleans to work on his campaign."

Mr. Rahim is co-founder of the Common Ground Collective (http://www.commongroundrelief.org), an organization that provides short-term relief to victims of hurricane disasters in the Gulf Coast region.  Mr. Rahim is a former Black Panther and ran for New Orleans City Council in 2002 as a Green Party candidate.

On November 12, Malik Rahim received the Thomas Merton Award (http://www.thomasmertoncenter.org) for his work in community organizing and providing relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  Under Mr. Rahim's leadership, the Common Ground Collective opened the first free health clinic in the city of New Orleans, helped reopen schools, gutted over 3,000 homes that needed repair in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans, and provided direct services to nearly 200,000 returning residents.

Malik Rahim's political agenda include support for a national health care program (with an endorsement of HR676, 'The United States National Health Insurance Act'), federal money to rebuild the Gulf Coast region's healthcare infrastructure, federally funded Category 5 flood protection, and comprehensive storm protection by maintaining and preserving ecosystem services, including rebuilding the region's cypress swamps.

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Green Party's 2008 candidates for the US House doubled the number of votes they received collectively from the number received in 2006, while over one million US voters voted for at least one Green candidate in the 2008 election.

The total number of votes for Green US House candidates (568,791 so far; compared to 252,550 in 2006) will rise further after the December 6 postponed election in New Orleans, Louisiana, where Green candidate Malik Rahim is running in District 2 (http://www.votemalik.com) for a seat currently held by William Jefferson, who is under federal indictment.  The Green Party is still awaiting final vote counts in some races around the US.

A new record was set for a Green candidate running for the US House, when Deb McFarland finished second in an Arkansas District 2 race with 64,622 votes or 23.33%.  Rebekah Kennedy apparently set a new percentage record for a Green running for the US Senate, with 202,016 votes or 20.59% (results not official) in her Arkansa

Greens thank national candidates Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente, congratulate Barack Obama on his historic White House victory

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Green Party of the United States thanked Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente, Green candidates for President and Vice President, for their strong national campaign in the 2008 election.

The party also congratulated Barack Obama on his election to the White House today, and celebrated the election of America's first African American President.

"Even though we competed with Sen. Obama for votes in the presidential race, we're thrilled that voters have elected an African American President, something unimaginable a generation ago.  We're just as thrilled that our own presidential ticket -- Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente are two women of African descent, and Ms. Clemente is Black Puerto Rican -- represented the voices of so many Americans who've been shut out of the system," said Clyde Shabazz, Green candidate for Congress in Michigan's 14th District.

Greens noted that voters expressed a mandate for change in the hope that President-elect Obama would follow through on his pledge of "Change We Can Believe In" and reverse the dangerous direction that the country has taken.

"Voters who were motivated by Barack Obama's message of change will now have to fight if they really want change to take place during the next four years," said Jill Bussiere, co-chair of the Green Party of the United States.  "Rosa Clemente, our candidate for Vice President, talked about the Green Party's 'imperative' throughout the campaign.  The Green Imperative will move forward during the Obama Administration, as people demand that change be more than a campaign slogan."

DC RELEASE Statehood Greens to Dems: Use your new power, make DC a STATE

DC Statehood Greens to Democrats: Use your new power in Congress and the White House to grant DC statehood

• DC statehood can be enacted by a simple majority, without an amendment to the Constitution

• No reason to seek the 'DC Vote' (one voting seat in the US House) when DC statehood will afford full representation (two Senators, one Rep) and increase Democrats' power

WASHINGTON, DC -- In the wake of an election giving Democrats strong control over both houses of Congress, the DC Statehood Green Party challenged the next Congress and President-elect Barack Obama to grant statehood to the District of Columbia.

"Democrats in the US House and Senate now have the power to make DC a state," said TE Smith, native Washingtonian, Vietnam veteran, and DC Statehood Green activist.  "Democrats would increase their own numbers in Congress, because the new state would have two Senators and one Representative, and these seats would be occupied by Democrats.  The new Congress can enact statehood for the District through legislation requiring a simple majority, and without changing the US Constitution."

Statehood Greens called on Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton and DC Vote, who have promoted legislation giving the District a single voting seat in the House, to support the call for statehood.

"Why only seek 'DC voting rights,' which would give DC one vote, when Democrats in Congress can give us full statehood and three new voting seats?" asked Mr. Smith.  "Statehood would give us more than representation -- it would give us freedom from control over the District's legislation, policies, and finances by Congress and the White House.  We'd get the same rights and responsibilities that all other Americans have."

DC Statehood Green Party leaders stressed that Congress could grant statehood to the District through legislation passed by a simple majority, without having to amend the US Constitution, which requires ratification by two thirds of the states.

Congress would pass a b

Eight Great Reasons to vote McKINNEY in DC instead of Obama, Nader, McCain
DC voters: Make your vote count on Election Day, Nov. 4, by voting for
Cynthia McKinney for President, Rosa Clemente for Vice President, and
the DC Statehood Green Party slate of candidates!

Here's why:

(1) Barack Obama doesn't need your vote!  We already know that Obama
will get a large majority of votes in Washington, DC, and will get all
three of DC's Electoral College votes.  You can vote for Cynthia
McKinney in DC without worrying that John McCain will win.

(2) Let's put John McCain in third place in DC!  We can send a
powerful message by making Republicans the 'third party' in DC, if
Cynthia McKinney gets enough votes.  If McCain comes in third behind
Cynthia McKinney, it'll show how strongly DC voters reject the
Bush-Cheney-McCain-Palin agenda!

(3) Ralph Nader is running as an independent candidate.  A vote for
Mr. Nader will have no effect after Election Day.  A vote for Green
candidate Cynthia McKinney is an investment in America's progressive
antiwar party.  It will pay off for years to come, building the DC
Statehood Green Party locally and the Green Party nationally.

(4) Cynthia McKinney, Rosa Clemente, and the DC Statehood Green Party
do not accept corporate campaign contributions.  Democrats and
Republicans take millions of dollars from corporations that have their
own agenda and put profit ahead of human needs.  The Green Party
represents We The People, not powerful big-business interests.

(5) Cynthia McKinney is a former six-term member of Congress (from
Georgia) with a record of standing up for human rights and equality,
leadership on the environment and foreign policy, speaking out against
the Bush White House while most Democrats remained silent, speaking up
on behalf of poor African American people in New Orleans after
Hurricane Katrina.

Ms. McKinney was the first member of Congress to introduce a motion
for impeachment of President Bush for high crimes and abuses of power.
Rosa Clemente is a long-time community activist and Hip-Hop
journalist.  As two women of African ancestry, Cynthia McKinney and
Rosa Clemente are uniquely dedicated to the interests of DC residents.

(5) The Green Party supports DC statehood -- real democracy,
self-government, full representation in Congress, and equality for
residents of America's 'Last Colony.'  Democratss removed the goal of
DC statehood from the Democratic Party's national platform in 2004 and
2008.  The Republican Party has never supported democracy for DC.
When you vote for Cynthia McKinney, Rosa Clemente, and the DC
Statehood Green slate, you vote for DC statehood and democracy!

(7) Do you oppose the Bush-Cheney agenda: continuing US occupation of
Iraq and Afghanistan, threats to invade Iran, the anticonstitutional
USA Patriot Act, the $700 billion bailout for Wall Street that doesn't
help working Americans, immunity for telecomm companies that allowed
spying on US citizens without warrant?  Barack Obama and his fellow
Democratic leaders support these Republican policies -- Obama even
voted for increased war funding, the Wall Street bailout, and telecomm
immunity.  Obama opposes real universal health care
(Single-Payer/Medicare For All).  Like Republicans, he wants to leave
for-profit ins

Green Party Acts: endorses Standing / Voters Pledge; etc..

November 2008
News Headlines

http://www.standingforvoters.org/

The Green Party of the United States has become the first political
party to endorse the Election Integrity Pledge promoted by Standing
For Voters, an internet-based group inviting candidates to pledge
their commitment to fair elections.

http://www.americanblackout.com/

Along with the Green Party, several Green Party candidates have
pledged 'no early concessions' and actions challenging election
outcomes if necessary: presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney and
vice presidential candidate Rosa Clemente; US Congressional
candidates Carol Brouillet (Calif.-14), Rebecca Dewitt (Ariz.-4),
Harold Burbank (Conn.-5), and Mike Beilstein (Or.-4); and five
candidates for state and local offices: Dan Kairis of Illinois,
Richard Boyle of California, Rick Lass of New Mexico, Allan Hancock
of Minnesota, and Charles A. Pillsbury of Connecticut.

http://www.breakthematrix.com/node/28047

"Led by David Cobb, our 2004 presidential candidate, Greens organized
the response to the 2004 vote theft. John Kerry and most of his
fellow Democrats did nothing after reports and evidence of GOP
election manipulation and obstruction of African American and young
voters surfaced. Meanwhile, Greens filed for the recounts in Ohio and
New Mexico and raised most of the money for legal expenses. It's our
special obligation and privilege to be the first party to sign on to
the Standing For Voters pledge," said Holly Hart, secretary of the
Green Party of the United States.

http://www.gp.org

For more on Green leadership in the Ohio and New Mexico recounts,
visit IWantMyVote.com.

In signing the pledge, Greens sharply condemned recent tactics that
have been used to obstruct and discourage voters, especially African
Americans in certain states, from voting. Such tactics include
letters to voters falsely claiming that they've been declared
ineligible to vote, foreclosure lists denying right to vote because a
voter's address is "no longer valid," and vicious attacks on voter
registration efforts.

"The drastic efforts to disqualify legitimate voters suggests that
we'll see a repeat of Republican conspiracies to steal the national
election. Will Democrats fight this time, or will they roll over
again and leave it to the Green Party?" asked Sanda Everette, co-
chair of the Green Party.

The documentary 'American Blackout' covers Cynthia McKinney's role in
the struggle for election integrity. A recent essay by Ms. McKinney
also addresses the breakdown in fair elections (OpEdNews.com, Oct.
7).

The Green Party advocates various systematic reforms to ensure fair,
accurate, and truly democratic elections, including public financing
of elections, free time on public airwaves for all candidates, repeal
of ballot access laws restricting alternative-party and independent
candidates, paper verification and open-source software for computer
voting systems, instant runoff voting, and proportional
representation.

According to the Standing For Voters pledge, signers promise to
challenge election results "if the combination of election
conditions, incident reports, and announced election results calls
into question the reliability of the official vote count." Should
another candidate be declared the winner in a race, signers vow
to "wait until all valid votes are counted and all serious challenges
resolved before conceding defeat."

"We'd like to see all of the nation's political parties endorse
Standing For Voters, as the Green Party has done nationally," said
Emily Levy, Standing For Voters Project Coordinator. "As participants
in what's commonly known as 'our democratic process,' all parties
should commit to fair elections. We welcome endorsements from local,
state, and national party organizations, as well as other groups that
care about democracy."

GP candidates to watch Election Day 2008

The Green Party of the United States has identified several
candidates who are running significant campaigns at state and local
levels. Five such candidates are profiled below.

The Green Party's 2008 national nominees are Cynthia McKinney and
running mate Rosa Clemente. Ms. McKinney was interviewed on
BreakTheMatrix.com on Sunday evening, October 19 and on Democracy
Now!, October 16, following the final presidential debate, from which
she was excluded. More recently she was interviewed on Weekend
Edition Saturday (NPR), October 25, 2008.

At least 245 Green candidates will be on ballots on Election Day,
November 4. At least 293 Greens have run for public office throughout
2008, including the November 4 election. More Green candidates to
watch are listed at: http://www.gp.org/2008-elections/candidate-
news.php
? Jesse Johnson, Mountain Party candidate for governor of West
Virginia, has participated in three debates and has attracted
attention for his promotion of a ban on mountaintop removal mining by
West Virginia's powerful coal industry and his leadership on other
state issues. Mr. Johnson was endorsed by the Sierra Club on October

DC Statehood Greens to host 'Reality Check' party at Busboys & Poets for Statehood Green candidates, Wednesday, Oct. 15

• Meet candidates from DC's 'Second Party'; live music & food; reporters are invited

• Washington City Paper political blog gives David Schwartzman the highest rating of all At-Large Council candidates

WASHINGTON, DC -- The DC Statehood Green Party will hold a campaign party on Wednesday, October 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Busboys & Poets restaurant, 14th Street and V Street NW (near the U Street Metro Station on the Green line).

Titled 'Reality Check... for Nov. 4', the event will be an opportunity to meet DC Statehood Green candidates and enjoy live music and refreshments.

Members of the media are invited.  There is no admission charge.  The event is not a fundraiser, although donations will be encouraged from supporters of the Statehood Green ticket.

Party activist Jenefer Ellingston, who organized the event, said "Come to hear solutions to DC's misbegotten government from the alternative party not indebted to the corporate paymasters!"

The four Statehood Green candidates for local partisan office are:

• Louise Thundercloud, for Delegate to the US House of Representatives http://www.statehood4dc.com/thundercloud http://votingforchangeindc.ning.com
• Joyce Robinson Paul, for US Statehood Representative http://www.statehood4dc.com/jrpaul/home
• Keith Ware, for US Statehood Senator http://www.statehood4dc.com/ware/home
• David Schwartzman, for Council, At-Large http://www.davidschwartzman.com

Also on the DC ballot will be the Green Party's presidential nominees:

• Cynthia McKinney, for President of the United States http://www.runcynthiarun.com
• Rosa Clemente, for Vice President of the United States http://www.rosaclemente.com

On October 8, Washington City Paper columnist 'Loose Lips' (Mike DeBonis) gave David Schwartzman the highest rating, an A, out of all seven candidates for the two At-Large seats on City Council for his performance at a recent candidates' forum (http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/citydesk/2008/10/08/ll-grades-the-at-large-candidates/).  Mr. Schwartzman also received a positive write-up from The Washington Post on Sunday, October 12 (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/11/AR2008101101983.html).

The DC Statehood Green Party is now the District's 'Second Party' in terms of electoral clout. Statehood Green candidates have collectively received more votes than Republicans in recent general elections for partisan office, even when the two parties have run the same number of candidates.  In the 2006 election, the five Statehood Green candidates received a total of 47,421 votes, while the five Republican candidates received 32,658 votes (http://www.dcboee.org/information/elec_2006/general_2006_results.shtm).
