Howdy and all! Thanks for the invite Darlene and John. I'm in Michigan and it is obvious that the humans in my area need MAJOR changes to protect our precious land and water. The Great Lakes will soon be the "Dead" Lakes.
A brief description of what is happening here: Builders - residential and business, are floading our coastlines and inland wooded areas with massive homes, more shopping plaza's and mall's and industrial plants causing horrific destruction and pollution to our beautiful scenery.
What's even more disturbing is that Michigan takes in TONS of garbage from Canada on a regular basis that is filling our state to the brim with another countries waste. Canada also pollutes the Great Lakes with their coastline industrial dumping as well.
I can't wait to see how this new group develops. I'll do all that I can to help inform and reform the way we are destroying the precious beauty given to us.

Oh I hear you girl, and by me too in the Poconos (Pennsylvania) and everywhere else.
Forgot to add a few words earlier....you finished what I meant to say. TONS of areas in every state....more building, dumping and destroying. It's just sad. Companies claim to be bringing in more jobs and improve the economy (blah blah blah) which I don't see that happening. All I see are more animals losing their natural habitats and precious nature destroyed that my child will never get to enjoy.
Hola. I am Sagrada...........I seem to recognize quite a few faces in here. Nice to see all of you!
About me: I am 26, vegan environmentalist.....do a lot of traveling for protests and such and have been known to get myself in trouble because I don't seem to understand the meaning of "shut up." I'm not a radical, but I can be very vocal about my views.
I am glad you dont shut up, cause there isnt a time to shut up til things change. And I dont see everyone changing soon so lets be a loud as we can be for as long as we live.
Great idea for a group, Darlene! Cheers for the invite, John H. Although I'm not in a position to be able to contribute much, being over-busy already with the groups I'm a host/co-host of (on Care2 and beyond - there is still a beyond, honest! ), I'll be sure to drop by from time to time to see how things are going. And going well is the way I'm sure they will!
Thanks, Darlene. It's a 'Yellow Shell', which is a common moth in these parts (southern UK). If my profile pic didn't enlarge (it doesn't for me) I've some more that I've taken this year of this lovely little creature in my photo album. Here's an example:
When I meant enlarge, i meant just bigger than the one that goes with your name when we post.
You sure have a great moth album. I dont know much about moths, but when I see them, and there can be some really unusual ones, in my yard or on my house, they are amazing and beautiful.
Tryin Not to waste and help do my part in saving a little piece of our world! October 10, 2005 2:54 PM
I've got a sick one for you. I use the same paper plate almost all day unless I can't reuse due to content.I'm always going crazy trying to make sure there's no lights left on. I'm getting to the point that I almost live in darkness. I even pack the terash down more and more to save plastic. Anything I can recycle I do. Sorry I won't use the TP again. I kep the house so damn hot, I have to put less and less clothes on. I can not wear my birthday suit around the house however. I use the microwave more than the oven. It'sactually an advantage since it's so hot in Fl. anyways. I think that I've become almost obessed in trying to save. I don't go oput and drive unless it's something that I must do. I try to make it where when I must, I try to do all things like ducks in a row. My best friend tells me I'm nuts. Oh well, if she wants to spend money and waste all I can do is yell. I even try to do much cooking in one day so that I don't waste more electricity. Now it's truly become a must. I'd downsize my vechile, bt it'd cost me so much and I'd get so little for it. I've had a Ford expedition asince the end of 200. I'll never get another one.. however I can't do anything about it. I try to reuse anything that I can. Sometimes I really think that I'm now half-baked. Let me know what you think. Have I gone over the edge or am I really trying to make a difference? Italia

When I use my regular oven, i make sure it is packed full and I time everything so when those things are done, the oven is still hot so i cook/bake some more things in it. Else I use my toaster oven to cook/bake in. You can do alot in a toaster oven.
I heat water on top of the woodstove when its cold (im in Pennsylvainia, so most of the year) and wash dishes with it then put a bowl in the other half of the double sink so when i rinse the dishes off , then i dump that water into the washing machine, (it is on the same floor) so i save water that way.

My name is Linda and I live in the Hudson Valley of N.Y.I'm interested in conservation and using our natural resources to best advantage and using alternative sources when possible.I'd like to find how self-sufficiant one can be even in a town envonment, and would like to find how one can be an environmental group without being non-profit.I'm open to ideas.

My name is Lee and I am new to care2 and to this groups. I came upon the site after signing a petition. I am going to school full time, which is a priority right now so I might not be on to much. I am working on my BS degree in Environmental Science/Conservation Biology. One of my biggest areas of interest is diversity. Respect, compassion, and consideration for the environment and all living things, those at the present time and those of the future, are important issues to me. I strive daily to educate myself and others, and convey awareness to these issues. The role of wildlife in this is important and valuable to us all in this circle of life, and I DO NOT mean a monetary value or personal prestige. Killing and slaughtering of animals for profit needs to end. I also believe, and it is my opinion, that trophy hunting of wildlife show none of the values I believe in, and should be outlawed completely. The only reason that there are these types of values put on our wildlife, is that we as people, in general, continue to put these types of values on our wildlife and support this. I really like what I have seen so far. I would like to meet some people from western South Dakota who could inform me of upcoming events and activities. Being on the computer all week, it is nice to get away on weekends and evenings to do something hands on. I will be back soon. Lee
