Biking in L.A.? (Gulp) You bet!

Biking in L.A.? (Gulp) You bet! A transplanted Midwesterner learns that, with a little care and a lot of luck, it can be done. And it sure beats sitting in traffic. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-poston-bicycle-20130219,0,7268780.story?track=rss
Biking

I have a spinal curvature and so have problems looking over my shoulder, that's why I can't bike. My husband is a really strong biker, 120 kms each time, also mountain bike. But I can't enjoy this sport with him and it's a pity. It's very dangerous and he has injured himself and broken bones several times. In Israel there are no bike paths and the bikers bike on the roads with all these terrible nasty drivers. I also had a bike accident when I was 12 which left me kind of traumatized. I guess this is one sport I will never get the hang of. Thanks J.L.

We have some great trails (greenways) in Raleigh, where I live. They are great for bike riding, running and walking and they are quite lengthy and actually are somewhat running all over our state. They do add to them quite a bit and often. I feel safe riding my bike there, but I am way too nervous to ride my bike in car traffic. I'd like to live :)

Was trying to post a great graphic about warm weather and biking for people to repost, but it simply will not post here :( This post was modified from its original form on 04 Apr, 6:19
(at least some) Canadian cities

Bike lanes had a cement island between them and the car lanes making it a lot safer for both--a design feature that appealed to me because so many of the bike trails are a lot longer than roads to get from point A to point B (but usually are wonderfully scenic for recreational or exercise purposes).

Here in Auckland, the construction of the Grafton gully cycleway is proceeding and I look forward to it opening. There are some photos and commentary at: http://caa.org.nz/general-news/quick-post-stage-1-of-grafton-gully-cycleway-photo/ . The cycleway will ultimately link a long existing cycleway with more of the central city. Good stuff!
Thanks Monica!

Sounds like it will be a major improvement!
