LA Event Featuring Warren Beatty, Matt Daman for Lynn Woolsey 2/4/06 January 31, 2006 3:45 PM

Dear Friends and Friends of Peace Action:

I want to personally and on behalf of Peace Action ask you to support Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey.  Peace Action feels proud that we gave Lynn an early endorsement last year -- something we don't normally do.  But Lynn is no normal Congressperson:  she went from welfare mom to co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.  On a personal level, my interaction with Lynn and her staff has been inspiring with their level of commitment and tireless work for progressive issues especially her leadership in bringing our troops home from Iraq.

I do hope you choose to hob nob with great activists, celebs and Lynn at Stan's lovely home and support Lynn in her reelection campaign.  The important details are below.

Peace,

Paul Kawika Martin

WARREN BEATTY, MATT  DAMON AND MIMI KENNEDY INVITE YOU TO AN INTIMATE AFTERNOON FUNDRAISER FOR CONGRESSWOMAN LYNN WOOLSEY

The first Member of Congress to call on the President to bring our troops home

Saturday, February 4, 2006; 2 to 5pm

WHY:  Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey is the first Member of Congress to call on the President to bring our troops home and we must support her against attacks from her opponent.

She is facing a primary challenge from a termed-out Assemblyman Joe Nation, a
moderate Democrat who has been critical of her stand on the war and on bringing home our troops.  He is raising money from people who have given money to Tom DeLay and Bush-Cheney and his legislative district covers 60+% of Congresswoman Woolsey's district.

Congresswoman Woolsey is a champion of equal rights, civil liberties, protecting
the environment and fighting for single payer healthcare.  Her opponent, rather
than supporting Senator Sheila Kuehl's  historic single payer health care
legislation, proposed his own legislation in conjunction with a Republican
legislator forcing all Californians to buy private medical insurance.

Congresswoman Woolsey must be re-elected by the same victory margin
she has had in the past to send a message to progressives everywhere that's
it's ok to be courageous and to not back down on issues that matter.

We must send a message that progressive values have enormous support and cannot be threatened by those who seek support from DeLay and Bush supporters.

For all of these reasons, I hope you will join me and our extraordinary host
committee in supporting her bid for re-election and honoring her courage to call
for the troops to come home.  A special note from Barbara Boxer follows the
invitation.

Tickets:
Friend $100; Supporter $250; Sponsor $500;
Host $1,000; Premier Host $2,000

A NOTE FROM SENATOR BARBARA BOXER

Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey is my good friend and succeeded me in representing California's 6th Congressional District.  Lynn is my Congresswoman and I couldn't be more proud.  She is a tireless leader, a champion of improving
educational opportunities, protecting the environment, increasing access to
healthcare and working diligently for peace.  Lynn was the first Member of
Congress to call for our troops to start coming home.

Congresswoman Woolsey is facing a primary election challenge and needs our help.

Please attend the enclosed event on February 4th.  If you can't attend, please
forward a contribution.  Your support and friendship are so appreciated.

Thank you,
