Mange Tout! John Leguizamo cast as Del Boy in US remake of Only Fools And Horses
10 months ago

John Leguizamo has signed on to play Del Boy Trotter in the US remake of Only Fools And Horses, it has been reported.

-

The 47-year-old actor, who is arguably most famous for playing Tybalt Capulet in 1996 movie Romeo & Juliet, will play the ageing con-artist part, originally played by David Jason in much-loved British sitcom.

-

It is believed Leguizamo has been signed up for the pilot of the show, which will air on ABC, before the network will decide whether to produce an entire series.

Like the original British series, which ran from 1981 to 2003, the pilot will focus on the money-making schemes of Del Boy and his brother Rodney, as well as their elderly Grandad.

-

It is not clear as yet who will play the roles of Rodney or Grandad in the new pilot.

-

Leguizamo has starred in movies including Moulin Rouge! in 2001 and 2011's The Lincoln Lawyer.

He has also had television roles in ER and The Kill Point.

-

But while the US remake of the show is no doubt highly-anticipated by fans of Only Fools And Horses, Jason said recently that he doesn't know whether or not the concept will work.

-

He said: 'They can do brilliant comedy [in America] but I don't see that they can bring off Fools and Horses.

'It might work but you've got to change it so much that, in the change, in order to Americanise it, do you lose the whole concept of the piece?'

-

Previous British series to have been successfully remade Stateside include Shameless, The Office and Being Human.

-

However, others, including Dad's Army remake The Rear Guard, have only had pilot episodes made as they proved less than popular with viewers.

I had this report handed to me sometime ago, to understand the Fools and Horses you need to understand British Comedy/Humour, I have put 3 clips from the BBC Sit-com that ran from 1981 to 2003,

-

in the first clip one of the main stars of the sit-com named Trigger always called Rodney as Dave, the reason for this no one every told Trigger Rodney's name, however, when Trigger is told by Rodney what his name is, Trigger still calls Rodney as Dave.My Name is Rodney! - Only Fools and Horses

-

the second clip, again Rodney and Trigger, in this clip, these is a compentition to the name of Del-boy baby, you will see in the clip again Trigger refers to Rodney as Dave If it's a boy they're naming him Rodney... - Only Fools and Horses

-

the third clip Del Boy gets himself a state-of-the-art executive mobile phone for the business. But when he shows it off at the pub it has an unintended side-effect. What the TV in the Pub, Remote Controlled Mobile Phone - Only Fools and Horses

-

A few days ago we lost Trigger the sit-com Roger Lloyd-Pack die at the age of 69, if ever I had choose the best sit-com it would have to be Only Fools and Horses and the best sit-com actor would have to be Roger Lloyd-Pack
