I have a plan to eliminate world poverty, a topic ML King was concerned with January 18, 2010 5:39 PM

Hello. One of my friends from Lima is a member of your group and I thought I'd duck in here and say my piece:

The only thing that stands in the way of everyone on earth having a billion dollars in assets each is high powered production means, and actually production and distribution to everyone. Everyone can be living in an estate home that he/she owns, etc. across the board in asset type. I reject the contention of the Chinese government that there is not enough soil in all of China to build everyone an estate home there, as they so stated in the Design E2 show starring Brad Pitt available for free viewing on http://www.pbs.org/ . Besides even if there weren't enough soil, they could crush some rock. -Adam

"intro"saying hello to all March 09, 2008 10:30 AM

hello all,

i am patrick o,proud shop steward,for long island laborers local 66;

laborers international of north america.

an honest days work ,for an honest days pay. this has been my motto for the past 25 yrs. i am in the building trades. i have injoyed  the comradery of the differant trades. it seems we are increasingly, becoming replaced by contractors who abuse the recent immigrants to this country.abusing rights such as the number one threat to all workers ;"job safety"

its a pretty sad state of affairs, when in a community i grew up in,paid taxes all my life, worked diligently,to standing in the street, with an inflatable rat blown up in protest, because unscrupulous contracter choose "greed" over doing the right thing.***bottom line*** i ,who am part of this great fabric that makes up the work force;not longer need to apply

being a union member has enabled me to give the basics to my family;home, food on the table, medical benifits.

america, was made great by its working class, when men united for similar causes that bridge we used to cross "god"&"country  was called "unions" we must reawaken to make right for what is being wronged today,    thank/you paddyo

I need a union March 25, 2007 6:15 PM

Hi.  I need a union for caregivers of children and the elderly.  We work hard.  We have to be professional.  Elderly care can be a hard as construction work.  Child caregivers and to keep taking classes.  Our pay does not reflect this.

Please, Click to Donate daily.

There will be a Transportations Unions Rally in Washington D.C. on the 17th of May, and I will be there, as I have a course that week at my Union's Labour College which is called the Wipinsinger Institiute of Technology and Education, my Union is the Internation Association of Machinest and Aerospace Workers.

I am the President of our Local which is Local 608, so the week of the 19thth I will be in Hollywood Maryland, which is where are labour college is, it is about a hour south East of Baltimore, and that is where i fly into, on the 12th of May in the afternoon.

I will have some time to kill before the bus picks me up to take me to the college, the bus usally picks us up at 8:00 p.m. so if anyone from the area want to be a tour guide of Baltimore, i would greatly appreciate it, I will keep everyone informed on my schedule.

Thanks Jon, we are strong when we belong to Unions, are rights are respected and we earn more money if we had not been organized and belonged to a Union, as I believe Unions can work together to help end Poverty, as we are united when we work together in International Unions and Labour Councils, which I both belong to, as I am president of my Union, and a Secretary Treasuer of a Canadian Labour council, so I am very pro-active with the Labour movement.  [ send green star]

minimum wage January 20, 2007 4:22 AM

for all the tea in china.  for all the coffee in central    america.  We need to be organized.     we are the workers of the world.  we go out everyday and prostitute our lives so    that our families and children can have a  chance.  We ensure that the work place is safe so that we have a chance to make it home safe and healthy at the end of the day.

We have organization.  we make it easy for company management to continue buisness day in, day out, because of our efforts there is process,    process to facilitate all labour matters in a buisness like fashion.

We love  and support each other, brothers and sisters of labour.

We take a lot of crap but we dont eat it,  because we are angels of mercy.

Love

Jon xxoo

Unions in Canada helped bring in Medicare and Pensions. May 15, 2006 6:56 PM

Unions have contributed so much to the Canadian Public, by pushing for Medicare, which every Canadian enjoys, even when you are rich or poor, everyone is treated the same, Canada's Public Pension, and old age security, which everyone gets when they retire was also pushed though by Unions, Safety Committee's , Workers Compensation and Un-employment Insurance are also a few more things Unions are responsible for, all Employees weather they belong to a Union or not, have a lot to thank Unions for, the Canadian Post this year has come out with a stamp to Thank the Canadian Labour Congress, which represent Unions across Canada, for there contribution to making Canada a better place for all people.  [ send green star]

thanks Mary, my promotion is important to me. May 15, 2006 6:46 PM

Thank you, Philip, for the invite. My dad was a train engineer in steel mill and was union.  Many, many years ago, I was working in an horrific factory and we tried to get a union in.  As you can probably guess, we lost due to the fact that by the time the vote came around, the company had so cowed most, that we lost the union.  Those of us who did vote for it were made to pay the price; one by one we were subjected to worse and worse treatment/punishment until we began to leave our jobs.  It was quite a learning experience!

I'm looking forward to getting involved here and learning as much as I can from all of you.

hugs....mary

Thanks for the invite Philip

My husband is a journeyman carpenter, and member of the UBC.  We consider ourselves a union family.

I am a big proponent of liberal education... and after years of reading about labor history, and studying world history, I've discovered that wars for liberty and struggles for social freedom and justice, coincide quite obviously with the struggle for labor-rights.... many different countries, different centuries, different cultures,  all with this something in common.

OM Shanti

Hi Philip, thanks for the invite. I also am not in a union, however, labor history was one of my focuses in college. It amazes me how easily the general public has forgotten the huge contributions to our society that unions have made in the past. However, just because so many things have been made better, does not mean that unions are no longer necessary!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
