I love Gilligan's Island because I can use it as a mnemonic device to help me remember the seven deadly sins. There's no other way I can remember them. Ginger = Lust, Mary Ann = Envy (she was always envious of Ginger) the Professor = Pride, the Millionaire = Greed, his wife = Sloth (she was lazy 'cause she was used to having servants) the Skipper = Gluttony and Anger (he was always ticked off at Gilligan, remember?) And here's the clincher. The Island represents hell because they didn't want to be there but they never could get away. Gilligan is the reason they ended up there and he always screwed things up so they couldn't get off. Gilligan represents the devil. Ever notice he always wore something red in every episode?

The more I think about it, I'm seeing that Gilligan's Island is redolent in archtypes.  [ send green star]

I never thought of Gilligan's Island quite in that way before.

I used to watch the show because Gilligan looked like an uncle I admired. I also loved the campiness of the shows, although at the time I just thought the episodes were funny.

Hmmm that is an interesting analogy. I will be thinking about that one for awhile.
