My absence and the future of this group February 08, 2006 7:02 AM

I was absent most of the last two weeks due to my grandmother's passing.

She was a special woman filled with strength, wisdom and love. We were both very close and I hurt her loss. My grandmother was a holocaust surviver, in the year 1939 she had 2 siblings, 16 cousins, 2 parents, 14 uncles and aunts, 3 grandparents and 2 great grandparents. During the war she was liaison officer of the leader of the jewish resistance in the Ghetto in Krakow. She was caught and spent the last three years of the war as a political prisoner in Auschwitz concentration and death camp. Auschwitz was released by russian soldiers in December 26 and officialy released by American soldiers on January 26th 1945. My grandmother was one of four cousins who survived the genocide. No one else of her family remained.

Still she had come to Israel and built herself a new family and a new life, life that were always somewhat shadowed by the horrors of the holocaust.

My grandmother's life story had taught me the true meaning of Free Choice. The human race can by cruel and devastating, it has the abilities to destroy everything in its path including itself. But it also has the ability to build, to heal and to ammend. My grandmother have always taught me to do good. She used to say that it is not enough to follow, it is not enough to wait for things to change. "If you want something to happen, make it happen but more important if you want something to change - get up and act now because any minute later is too late."

I want this world to be healed, I want the people in this planet to live in peace. I wish to change the way people look at our world and our planet and I want to make sure that genocides will never happen again, that we will learn to act responsibly and respectivly with our planet nature and our fellow humans. This is my life goal and this is why I'm here - to act now, because any minute later is too late.

So to those of you who asked and pondered about the nature and the purpose of this group, I am making it clear today -

This group's aim is to bring peace, health and unity to the people of Earth:

By working to solve environmental problems world wide and promote global cooperation to repair evironmental damages, to preserve wildlife and nature, to create international standards for minimizing pollution and control of use of un-renewable resources.

By discussing global issues and sharing ideas of people around the world.

By bringing people together and breaking the walls of prejudice and bias.

By working together to stop all violence and agression between people around the world and helping to solve global problems of poverty, hunger, inequility and illness.

By creating a friendship that will accede differences of nationality, race, gender and religion.

By working together for the common good.

By working to empower the weaker groups in our world in order to make humanity stronger and better.

In the past month there have been many ups and downs in this group. There won't be anymore of those. The only chance this group could get anywhere is if the members will leave the ego and personal intrigues behind them when they come into the group and bring their virtues and ambition to create a better world. No one here is better or worse than the other. We are all equal in life and death and the best we can do is help others and make a difference with our campassion, our love and our will power.

I have returned now and I will do everything in my power to make a difference for the best in this world. I hope that you will chose to agree with what I've written and work with me on that.

Yours,

Erez Luke Cohen - Co-member of People of Earth Group

Erez, I loved reading about your grandmother, all that she went through, and her tremendous spirit and attitude.  I am sorry about her passing.  I hope that many people will follow her example.  My family and I have watched a lot of different videos telling the stories of Jews who escaped Hitler's Nazis and the people who risked their lives to hide them.  This is our favorite kind of video.

I share your hopes for peace and for humanity to stand together against opression and learn to appreciate one another across all religious, racial and ethnic, and to look out for the weakest, most persecuted people.  My family and I love to learn about other cultural heritages, whether European, Israeli, Muslim, Latino, or any other group.

I grew up in a tribal village in the jungle.  I am a white American, but these were the only people I knew from my babyhood until I went away to boarding school.  The black natives were my people, THE people.  When I was older and discovered how prejudiced people could be I was in shock.

When I had my tenth birthday, I invited white and black native kids to my birthday slumber party.  My mother told me there would be trouble, but I was still shocked when my white friends demanded that I make my black friends leave the room.  They said "We will never sleep in the same room with natives or black people."

I stood my ground and refused.  My friends threatened to call their parents to take them home at once.  I said, "You can do that if you want but I will not make my black native friends leave the room.  They have as much right to be here as you do."  My whtie friends stayed that night, but never spoke to me again.

I think there is so much ignorance when people are not willing to appreciate, respect, and understand one another.  It is my hope and prayer that more and more people will come to recognize the foolishness and harm of all our prejudices and learn to live in complete peace and harmony.  May we all work toward this goal together.

It appears to me that if there is going to be another holocaust, it will be a Muslim holocaust.  The vilification and intolerance of Muslims and their religion is on the rise today due to 911.  I think that we need to watch out for ALL religions and ethnicities because any that we allow to be villified could be next if we are not careful.  I think that a lot of people today need to rethink their stereotypes of Muslims and Islam.  (I am not a Muslim, but am concerned for ALL religions and ethnicities.)  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

There might be but I think there will be another holocaust...a holocaust of all beings, all humans are in danger in a world that runs on greed and power, where the only thing that matters is to be successful and "get ahead",where children are sold for prostitution and old people are a nuisance  and where wars are still the best business...The holocaust is always with us,it has been part of the history of mankind ever since the beginning of the world and will continue being so till our planet says "enough" and gives up on us.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
