Please review this threadfor the initial inputs from members.
The old thread is locked so we can continue the flow of this process.
From the inputs gathered, this small list of host duties was generated:
1. Mediate conflict
2. Attempt to generate topic content or stimulating conversation when the group is slow.
3. Hostcan delete abuse and violations of the CoC and ToS only.
4. Host may not block any member.
Are these acceptable guidelines for the time being?
Do we need further refinement or additions?
Note:
The reason behind trying to get these guidelins established is that I will be going out of town for a week as of tomorrow. The group can go along as it is, unhosted, or we can establish these simple guidelines, and vote someone in for a trial run.
Carolyn M. 8:44 AM Buck is the list owner. But that still doesn't explain why he isn't listed as the host on the home page...unless I missed an option to hide that on the homepage???

THREE TIME OUTS EACH LONGER THAN THE OTHER ,AND WHEN THAT DON'T WORK "BLOCK" ? ? ?

I would make the first hand slap the longest, then a bit shorter and then 3rd strike..buh bye...now of course they would have to be legit reasons to hand slap/ban.

A GOOD HOST OWNER January 09, 2006 8:49 AM
LOOKS TO PLEASE THE GROUP AS A WHOLE, AND HAS THE "INTEGRITY "TO NEVER BE MANUPULATED BEHIND THE SCENES......
Maybe because he's not the DICKtator style host? LOL He probably is doing it because this is a group for the people, by the people, he's facilitating. I don't show my host status on some of my groups... just a preference... it keeps people free from that feeling "hosted" look...

Just because the "community" suggested it doesn't mean it has to be so...something detrimental like that..we all think it looks good now but when an extreemly disruptive person finally comes in here, you're going to wish you could do something about it...

This is why these threads are being generated; so we can discuss this type of thing.
Stress the word "trial" run. If it is a total catastrophe, we can remove the host in question and try again.
Sure, I'm with you on that then. But it's not just a host I'm talking about, it's any member that is acting extreemly disruptive...ie: bullying, insulting, spamming, etc...
What recourse is there if a host alters posts? (the title) or deletes posts altogether? Referring to posts hear which meet the basic criteria, no foul language, not a personal attack etc?
I encountered this in a one group I was in, the topic was altering of posts.
Then they are paranoid or trying to hide something. The recourse is to let them know that what they are doing is just that. It is dishonest, and serves no purpose.
The ony out to that is if they clearly state that this will happen if things get off topic etc... Some groups like to keep the discussion focus strictly on the subject matter, and I can see reasons for doing this.
Please visit the group "Reforming Our Democracy" for s great example of this. Never had I seen so much censorship in a group that was supposed to be about having real freedom.
Apparently they wish to reform our democracy by silencing opinions that they do not agree with.
Classic...
