I can't seem to respond to the other topics to I'll start one of my own. First of all, thanks for the invitation. I've actually been keeping away from joining new groups recently as I can barely keep up with the ones I'm a part of now, but I really couldn't ignore this one. When I read your mission statement and the blurb about your shelter/sanctuary, whether or not you call yourselves that, I knew that I should join.
I'm a 3rd year, going into 4th year, vet student studying in London, England. I have two years left here before I'm awarded my degree and start practicing. Actually, I want to specialize in exotic pets. Well, it's been a toss up between that or wildlife and I'm still not fully convinced I can't do both. Really this desire came from working with an amazing potbelly pig sanctuary, which I credit with getting me into the mindset to focus on those animals that don't actually have many fighting in thier corner. I've always been fascinated with reptiles, amphibeans, birds and 'exotic' mammals and have never had any issues handling them (though I'd really like to get more experience with snakes.. I never know where to put my hands lol). In them I saw a niche. I don't really agree exotics should, in general, become pets BUT they deserve people who are willing and capable to help them, even more so than domestic animals. I hope to be one of those people some day. Bascially, that means I try and load up my work experience to work with exotics as much as possible.
I loved what you stand for, I love what you do, and I love your policy. And I'm very glad to be a part of this group.
Thanx for invitiong me to partake in a worthy cause~~ June 19, 2006 9:11 AM
Thanks for the 'OPEN_DOOR' invite/policy to such a valuable group....with immeasurable intent/ideas...I have solely/independently managed to rescue/save/re_habitate/re_locate/salvage/SAVE over & over the little to unknown critters that share the world in which we all live...Co_HABITATION MEANS EXACTLY THAT! Helping Mother_Nature's intentions move along smoothly, has been a pertinent effort on my part along with others~ Trying to make a difference...merely to assist in the survival of those who belong here long before humans decided to infiltrate the 'natural_habitats' leaving the deserving critters none the less then seeking survival in the crevices of the concrete world imposing upon all the natural beauty of the Earth which we all co_exist!!! It is beyond the time...to GIVE back what we have thoughtlessly & greedily taken...it is past time to GIVE BACK!
