Yes there really aren't that many places in the country where people can freely protest and find great volunteer actions with out risking alot (job, respect, freedom, etc...). You are lucky to live where it is more acceptable and there are more opportunities Sharon.

PS. thanks for the invitation
It's nice to have you both here!!
Oh, do you mean like what they did to Cindy Sheehan for wearing a T-Shirt w/ a slogan on it? Isn't it amazing how effective mere words (or more importantly, the Truth) can have?
I'm actually more careful about what bumper stickers I put on my car now...I have a desire to win people locally, and I feel that 'infiltrating' and educating slowly is more effective than slamming people w/ something that might be an in-your-face contradiction to their current belief system. Actually, Orange County is very straight laced Conservative in many ways. I myself am a little wacky (as both of you know!) and sometimes "hyper-creative" or "imaginative", (I thnk are nice ways of putting it!
) That's just my personality...and I can't, nor should I , hide that. That can be used (if harnessed! heehee) for good means.
I really do want to put my desire to touch minds and hearts of people in my local community into action. We don't have a town center, so I guess the centers might be the huge church we have (although I much prefer smaller non Republican churches), the supermarkets, the Starbucks. (It would be a TRIP to start a Democrats club, or something to that effect at this particular church. I wonder if it would be possible!
) I still would like to distribute flyers at the supermarkets informing people about Genetically Modified foods, perhaps show pictures of beakless chickens, and start to give people an idea of how destructive corporations can be, and what our alternatives are. (And of course, tell of the benefits of eating Hemp cereal!
)
Larry and Natalie: What do you think would be the answers for you in your communities? Online activism? How about joining groups through MeetUp.com or local groups like that? Remember, there is power in numbers.
Also, if you could do anything you wanted, what would it be?
Do you have ideas for fund raisers? Cos I think people need this kind of info...
Someone I was in contact w/recently is putting together a fundraiser for their new Katrina relief Alliance. They are going to get together to get rid of the mold problems in homes there. She needed an idea. I suggested a Mardi Gras theme.
Speaking of dream jobs, I better quit dreaming and get to work. ![]()
I want to get involved, I want to know I made a differance, I want to pay my bills and say good-bie to them forever. I want to learn and put my brain to work as well as my body (a bit soft now).
What I can offer is a willingness to work and a can-do determination.
Leaving this area is a bit on the difficult side for now.
