Once the PSPCA has this information, we will post it on our website immediately. Please continue to check back for more information. (Please excuse duplicate message(s).)
By Charlie Ban, FOR THE VALLEY NEWS DISPATCH Tuesday, July 21, 2009
Fewer than half of the cats seized from the Tiger Ranch animal shelter survived their illnesses, but the survivors should be ready soon for adoption, according to the organization caring for them.
More than 240 cats from the Frazer no-kill shelter are living in a Clarion County facility while the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals waits for their legal transfer.
Lin Marie, the owner of defunct animal sanctuary, pleaded guilty last week to 12 animal cruelty charges, which spared her almost 600 animal cruelty and other charges. Marie also was known as Linda Bruno.
During a March 2008 raid on the Tiger Ranch on Miller Drive, officials found 55 dead cats on the property, 12 others that had to be euthanized and hundreds of animal bones. They took more than 600 cats after the raid.
PSPCA spokeswoman Gail Luciani said the organization is waiting for paperwork to legally claim the cats before launching a Web site advertising the cats for adoption.
"We fully intend to find homes for these cats," she said. "We're hoping for the paperwork early this week."
Matt Collins, one of Marie's attorneys, said the paperwork in question was a forfeiture order from the district attorney. It won't involve any action by Marie.
"Rarely will a defendant 'help' with a forfeiture order," he said. "The PSPCA is basically waiting for a 'title transfer.'"
An SPCA spokesperson confirmed that cat owners who can prove they own a particular cat from Tiger Ranch may make their claims by Wednesday to get the cats. Proof of ownership would include a photo, veterinary bill or vaccination records.
Animals and our pets can be a great way to reduce our every day stresses and anxieties. It is not easy to deal with our fears and anxieties, however, spending time with animals can makes us feel better. Here is a list of ways of how animals can help us
According
to some estimates, adverse drug reactions are responsible for 2.2
million hospitalizations and 106,000 deaths annually.1 Furthermore, as
many as 50 percent of FDA-approved drugs are withdrawn or relabeled.
Linda Bruno (aka Lin Marie), owner of the Tiger Ranch Cat Sanctuary, has been charged with 574 counts of cruelty to animals; 203 misdemeanors and 371 summaries. Bruno had previously been charged with 13 counts of animal cruelty after the Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA) removed more than 400 cats, seven horses, a goat, nine chickens and seven dogs from Tiger Ranch on March 13. On April 3, District Judge Suzanne Blaschak dismissed those charges on a technicality.
"We believe the evidence supports the fact that a crime was committed," said Mike Manko, a spokesman for the DA's office.
We are pleased that district attorney is continuing to pursue the case against Lin Marie and has refiled the cruelty charges against her, said PSPCA CEO Howard Nelson. We are confident that Lin Marie will be convicted of the atrocities she committed by not providing sufficient medical care and treatment for the animals left to her care at Tiger Ranch.
Blood and tissue samples from 380 cats that were taken to the Clarion hospital tested positive for parasites and viruses including: ESCHERICHIA COLI, STAPHYLOCOCCUS, PROTEUS MIRABILUS, FELINE CALICIVIRUS, HERPES VIRUS, BORDETELLA, MYCOPLASMA FELIS and CHLAMYDOPHILAFELIS. The cats symptoms included upper respiratory conditions, severe muscle wasting, abscesses, dehydration, malnutrition, purulent oral ulcers, eyes completely occluded with dried mucus and other conditions that required immediate medical intervention. Some cats had oral ulcers that prevented them from eating and a discharge from the eyes that was left unchecked and resulted in loss of vision and then the eyes themselves, said Murarka.

Please Note http://tinyurl.com/4x5zlg, PHILADELPHIA PA ~ Status Report: The Tiger Ranch Cats ~ PSPCAs priority is to continue to nurse these cats back to health and adopt as many as possible into loving, forever homes. (Please excuse duplicate message(s).)
Following the PSPCAs removal of hundreds of cats from the Tiger Ranch Cat Sanctuary in Tarentum, Pa., the PSPCA received many calls from heartsick animal lovers who had surrendered their cats at Tiger Ranch and wanted information about their pets well-being. These pet owners believed that their beloved cats would be adopted or left to live their last days in peace at Tiger Ranch.
Unfortunately, as a result of the raid, those that surrendered their cats now know that extremely sick and dying cats were allowed to cohabitate with healthy cats and suffering, ill animals did not receive the veterinary care they desperately needed. While at Tiger Ranch, the PSPCA found burial pits filled with thousands of dead cats, as well as many more animals that were so severely sick that they had to be humanely euthanized immediately.
The makeshift shelter in Clarion County that is housing nearly 300 sick cats taken from Tiger Ranch in Frazer was vandalized Monday morning.
According to Howard Nelson, chief executive officer of the Pennsylvania branch of the Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals, a brick was thrown through the shelter window in Shippenville. Fortunately, no person or animal was harmed, he said. Terroristic acts by a group of misinformed zealots will not deter the PSPCAs mission to help these cats.
The surviving 278 cats continue to receive extensive veterinary care. Currently, 75 cats are in critical condition.

Activists contend the gas chambers are cruel because animals of varying sizes and weight are packed into the chamber. Because the animals absorb the gas at differing rates, some don't die while others die a slow death. Cobb shelter was cited specifically.
