My kitty, Mowie, is missing.  She has been gone for more than a week and I'm feeling so very sad.  She's such a sweet kitty.  Please keep her in your prayers.

Mowie has 4 kittens...without a mom now besides me.  They're 6 weeks old now and eating food and using the litter box.  I am looking for VERY special homes for a few of them.  I'm tempted to keep them all but I really can't, with opening the house up to the public next year for my work.  (Although I'm certain to keep one or two!)

If anyone would like one of my sweet Mowie's babies, please let me know.  I"m in Hartville, Ohio...which is not far from Akron, Canton, Kent, Youngstown or Cleveland.  Write to me at vibraceous@aol.com if you would like to adopt one or two!  (They are especially cute!)

Thanks...
Vibe

My dear friends:

Thank you so much for all your help...

Onward to Puerto Rico. Still trying to find foster homes for kitties here in NM however. Pray or have anyone who is willing in NM to take them for three months to contact me directly @ bodybybliss@gmail.com. Smile.

Know I will be a bit silent on Care2 for a few weeks as I get settled, but anticipate to be back with a big bang. Smile.

Thank you all again.

Much love, Ani

Subject: [GARMCA] The GARMCA needs help! - The SC's 38 Rescue Case
Date: Tue, 19 Feb 2008 19:33:02 -0000

Hello All,
Dyna and I will shortly be on our way to handle a huge rescue effort in South Carolina at the end of February. We will be taking in and fostering a total of 38 rats who we first rescued by a kind animal lover who has unfortunately been moved into a nursing home. These rats have to removed for the current location. Needless to say, 38 will be quite overwhelming for Dyna, myself and our foster network. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! We are also looking to quickly place these rescues in approved homes as soon as possible. I wanted to go ahead and post what varieties and a little about each of these rescues we expect to be fostering and placing. Please email me or Dyna at daratter(at) hotmail.com or Dyna.Brown(at) sablaw.com if you can help in any way or would be interested in fostering or adopting one or a few of these sweeties. We need foster homes and permanent homes. ***Please note: While we would prefer to adopt out each cage as one group to go to one home, it may be possible to split cages up into same sex pairs or singles for adoption. The ones listed as dark brown are most likely blacks in various markings like berkshires and irishes. Below is what was given to us by the current caretaker for these rats.

MALES--
Cage 1: 2 PEW, 2 DARK BROWN WITH WHITE MARKINGS
Cage 2: 1 PEW (may be blind--very sweet...loves popcorn!)
2 DARK BROWN WITH WHITE MARKINGS (both shy, but playful)
1 AGOUTI (shy and skittish; can be grumpy towards cage mates)
Cage 3: 3 PEW, 1 BROWN HOODIE (very sweet, but shy)
Cage 4: 2 PEW (very playful)
2 DARK BROWN WITH WHITE MARKINGS (playful)
Cage 5: 1 BLACK HOODIE (shy, but sweet)
1 BROWN HOODIE (shy)
2 PEW (very shy, but sweet)

FEMALES--
Cage 6: 1 BLACK HOODIE (very outgoing/adventurou s, LOVES food)
1 DARK BROWN WITH WHITE MARKINGS (slightly overweight, sweet)
2 PEW (very outgoing; can be aggressive with food)
Cage 7: 5 DARK BROWN WITH WHITE MARKINGS (small females, very
outgoing, adventurous, and curious--VERY human friendly, but a little
skittish when being handled)
Cage 8: 2 BROWN HOODIES (very sweet, but shy)
2 DARK BROWN WITH WHITE MARKINGS (curious and sweet)
1 PEW (shy, but sweet)
Cage 9: 2 DARK BROWN WITH WHITE MARKINGS (VERY sweet!)

Illinois - 8 Month old Pit Bull puppy with special needs 12:06 PM

A picture of the puppy from a couple months back
My brother took in a second dog 6 months ago, a wonderful Pit Bull
puppy. He's well behaved (well, for a puppy and house trained. He's
8 months old now and weighs about 65 pounds. He's one of the most
talkative dogs I've ever met- not barking, but musical, sonorous
conversations he'll engage in if you talk directly to him while looking
at him. It's so sweet. It breaks my heart that he has to give him up,
but he's at his wits end. He is single and works a hectic schedule.
He's been able to work his schedule around his current dog, but it
turns out his Pit Bull puppy has special needs: he is epileptic, and my
brother just can't be around enough to give him the special care this
condition requires (it isn't too expensive to treat from what his vet
has told him, only about 50/month on average for regular lab tests and
medication). My brother can't stand the idea of him suffering at home,
alone, after he has had a seizure and comes out of it disoriented and
scared. I wish I could help him, but my apartment complex won't let me
have a dog. Please help me save this wonderful dog. The local no kill
shelters are all refusing to accept dogs right now (and for the next 6
months@!), and PAWs has basically flat out said that no epileptic dogs
ever get adopted from them, so taking him there is just a 3-day delayed
death sentence. Please help! email me at robertslater@gmail.com if you are intersted in adopting this wonderful dog, or can direct me to someone who might.

Nearly 50 Animals Seized From Butler Co. Home
REILY TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Authorities seized nearly 50 animals Tuesday afternoon from a Reily Township home.

According to authorities, Bobby Lee Conrad Jr. was supposed to be evicted by the end of the day, and he had nowhere to take his 45 dogs, one cat and one pony.

The Butler County dog warden’s office and the Humane Society took all of the animals from the home in the 5030 block of Reily-Millville Road to at least two different places to determine what to do with them.
"(There were) absolutely horrific conditions in the house," said Leland Gordon of the Humane Society. "Imagine having 30 to 40 dogs in the house. There was feces and urine everywhere, (and) you couldn't even breath in the home, it smelled so bad."

Officials said they hoped the animals would be ready later this week for adoption.

Conrad could face animal cruelty charges, authorities said.
There is also a video there.

anonymous 2 puppies and a dog in need of home August 20, 2007 3:35 PM

I have 2 puppies and a dog in need of a home.  The mother was a stray that I picked up (she was in bad shape) and not long after that.. She had puppies.  Which is probably the reason someone just "dumped" her.  They are adorable.  They are small dogs and very very friendly.  I have pictures of them, but I need to upload them still yet.  The 2 puppies I have left are 2 little girls.  If anyone is interested, I will help pay for the spaying of the dogs.  I just want them to have a nice home.  I am located in southern West Virginia.  Thanks.

Have you seen any of us?

Please forward this email and circulate the enclosed YouTube link to as many people as possible and ask them to please do the same.

Included in this video are photographs of Missing Katrina Pets. Many of them were clearly rescued in the aftermath of Katrina but have vanished or ultimately were lost in the system. They could be anywhere in the country. It's possible that some might even be sitting in a shelter waiting to be adopted. Others might be living next door to you.

Perhaps you know a co-worker who adopted a Katrina rescue, a friend of a friend, a neighbor, a teacher, a volunteer, etc.

Their families are heartbroken and continue to search for them daily, never wavering hope. Clearly these pets are cherished family members, greatly loved, and dearly missed.

Buddy needs a home! March 24, 2007 11:05 AM

Hello everyone! Below is the story and picture of a pup that I just found that needs a home or no-kill sanctuary. We would keep him, but we have livestock and he's already injured some birds bad enough that they are probably going to die or have to be put to sleep. So he can't stay, even though we love him already. We're in Missouri, near Jefferson City. If you know anyone that can help us, please let me know. I need to find a home very soon, because the owner (my dad) of the family farm that I live on is very upset over the presence of a 'chicken killer' and is one who would potentially shoot him if he kills more stock.
He is probably 6-9 months (not hiking his leg yet). Is not neutered yet, and hasn't been to the vet YET. (vet was booked and closed on weekends) but he appears healthy except he's very skinny!! Starved, or on the run for a while. But I assume just tied out and starved because he has a deep indent where a collar used to be. And he acted and looked like he hadn't been fed in a couple of weeks or more. Soooooo, my mind drifts to the conclusion that someone has abused him. ARG.
We are willing to travel a reasonable distance to make sure he gets to a safe place.
Thank you, I know that you all are very busy already. But I would appreciate your help SO MUCH.

In need of help for 9 month old Rot 12:38 PM
Hello, I am looking for some help.  I have a nine month old Rott, he is a great dog.  He is going to have X-Rays on Thursday the 18th.  He has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia.  I would love to try herbs on him or glyconutrients, but I have a three year old son and a six year old daughter.  I fear a dog in great pain may snap at my children.  If anyone has the money and heart to attempt some natural remedies I have some ideas.  I just can't take the chance on him hurting, and possibly biting my kids.  I only have until Thursday to find a loving home, if the vet says my puppy is too bad my only safe option is to put him down.  I can't afford to treat him with herbs and hope that it works before my son walks into him and gets harmed.  Thank you all.  Rai  [ send green star]

This Holiday Season, give a gift that makes a difference -- Make a Wildlife Gift Adoption!

Dear Mary,

Searching for a gift this Holiday Season that is truly meaningful? Look no further than a Wildlife Gift Adoption!

This is one present that won’t just sit on the shelf after the Holidays. A Wildlife Gift Adoption supports our work to protect tigers, penguins and other imperiled animals. That means it will have a lasting impact on the creatures that you and I care about.

With a Wildlife Gift Adoption, you or someone you love will receive a plush animal toy and a personalized Certificate of Adoption suitable for framing.

Here are just a couple of critters you can adopt for your loved one (or for yourself!):

http://action.defenders.org/site/R?i=PR6AXqxaZtfAdJCwifPGcg..Show your true stripes by adopting a tiger. These fabulous felines face a grim future as poaching continues to take its toll. Your gift adoption supports our work to stop the illegal trade in tiger parts and help bring this great cat back from the brink of extinction.

http://action.defenders.org/site/R?i=bj7JrMQMyFRx30-a-LbtIw..Put on your happy feet and march on over to our Wildlife Adoption Center to adopt one of our newest creatures -- the emperor penguin or an adorable penguin pair. Rising temperatures are destroying vital habitat and depriving the emperor penguin of crucial food sources. Your gift adoption will support our work to address global warming and save these earth-bound birds.

By adopting a penguin, tiger or other animal, you’ll help support our work to protect critters like these and the places they live!

This Holiday Season, don't fight the crowds -- fight for wildlife with a Wildlife Gift Adoption. You’ll give a meaningful gift from the comfort of your own home.

As always, thanks for all you do to protect our wildlife and the places they live.

Best Regards,

Karin Kirchoff
Vice President of Membership
Defenders of Wildlife

P.S. As a special thanks for helping support our work, we’ll give you 10% off any wildlife gift adoption between now and December 1st and ship it first class for free. To redeem this coupon, just enter discount code WEB10 at the time of your adoption.

Chickens Deserve a Good Life! October 22, 2006 6:42 PM

Adopt A Chicken This Christmas
A Leicestershire based rescue centre has hit upon the ideal Christmas gift for the vegetarian in the family. The Chicken Rescue Centre is asking supporters to spend £5 to adopt an ex-battery hen, give it a name and receive e-mailed pictures every 3 months showing how their adopted chicken is recovering and adapting to its new environment.

Martin Hudspeth who runs the centre has launched this latest campaign as part of an attempt to raise enough funding to prevent closure of the centre next year.

The centre, which has a no kill policy and has previously received the support of Sir Paul McCartney, started 4 years ago when Martin brought home 4 hens from a battery farm. The hens he received had no feathers and were scared of each other, their own eggs, their own droppings, the ground, and even scared of the sun!

He had to teach them what food and water looked like and how to feed and drink for themselves.

Since 1999 the centre has grown and, because it never turns away a rescuee, so have running costs. The web site which accompanies the centre has recently been re-built at www.chickenrescue.org.uk.

Chickens Like Massage and TV!!! October 22, 2006 6:37 PM

Adopt A Chicken

Chickens form strong family ties. A mother hen begins bonding with her chicks before they are even born. She will turn her eggs as many as five times an hour and softly cluck to her unborn chicks, who will chirp back to her and to one another. After they are hatched, the devoted mother dotes over her brood, teaching them what to eat, how to drink, where to roost, and how to avoid enemies.

Male chickens (called roosters) are most famous for greeting each sunrise with loud crows, often acting as alarm clocks for farmers. Chickens are fascinating creatures. They have more bones in their necks than giraffes, yet they have no teeth. They swallow their food whole and use a part of their stomach called the gizzard to grind it up.

Chickens actually have many similarities to humans: the majority are right-footed (just as most humans are right-handed), they see a similar color range, and they love to watch television. Many also enjoy classical music, preferring the faster symphonies to the slower ones. Having a private nest in which to lay eggs is extremely important to hens. The desire is so strong, in fact, that a hen will often go without food and water, if necessary, to use a nest. The nest-building process is fascinating. A hen will first scratch a shallow hole in the ground, then reach out to pick up twigs and leaves, which she drops onto her back. After she has gathered some material, she'll settle back in the hole and let the material fall off around the rim. She will continue to do this until her nest is completed. As highly social animals, chickens can bond very closely to other animals, including humans. They will fight to protect their family and will mourn when a loved one is lost. When they have bonded with a human, chickens will often jump into his or her lap to get a massage that they enjoy fully with their eyes closed, giving every indication of being in ecstasy. "It's just a chicken" is a retort heard often when concern for the welfare of chickens is exhibited. This comment reflects just how misunderstood these animals are. Chickens are just as deserving of our respect and compassion as are all other animals.

Adopt an Elephant! June 08, 2006 6:03 PM

Care For The Wild International Animal Adoptions

Care for the Wild International runs an adoption programme for orphaned elephants in Kenya in conjunction with the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT). Most elephants become orphaned as a result of human activities, including poaching, snaring and entrapment in man-made structures.

When very young orphans are rescued, they are taken to the DSWT's nursery in Nairobi National Park. They need 24 hour care and have to be fed every three hours, even through the night.

At around a year old the weaning process begins and when the young orphans reach approximately two years of age they are taken to Tsavo East National Park to begin the gradual process of rehabilitation into the wild herds of the park. It is at that time they may be added to our adoption programme.

The DSWT has already reintroduced a total of 60 previously injured or lost, grieving orphan elephants into the wild herds in Tsavo East.

By supporting this wonderful adoption program, you are not only contributing towards the care of the orphan you choose to adopt, you are also ensuring that other young orphaned elephants are given a chance to return to the wild.

You are also supporting the vital anti-poaching and elephant conservation work we do in Tsavo East National Park and throughout Africa.

For as little as £15.95 you can adopt an elephant for one year.

Epileptic Dog Needs Home - Owner Moving Overseas May 03, 2006 2:31 PM

Posting this from a share I created...

Anissa has been awarded 30 butterflies for taking action at Care2 Anissa H.

Anissa belongs to a support group for epileptic dogs and one of the members (Gladys) is trying to find a good home for her 4-year-old Beagle named Milo. She loves Milo dearly and this has been very difficult for her, but must move to Hong Kong in the near future and will not be able to take Milo with her. His seizures are controlled with medication.

Milo lives in Dallas, TX and Gladys will help with transportation of Milo to his new furever home. If you or anyone you know of could provide Milo with a wonderful home, please email Anissa at anissaheaton9@hotmail.com and she will relay the message to Gladys.

Notes:
Rudy was abandoned by his family when they moved away. They left him and his buddy in a pen with no food or water and moved away without a second thought! Can you imagine leaving these sweet brown eyes and never looking back?!? He is a sweet boy who loves to be petted and loved. He just wants a home where he never has to worry about being left behind again! ECAC serves Elbert County Georgia. We are a kill shelter, an unfortunate result of pet overpopulation. Please help put a stop to the needless deaths of thousands of companion animals each year, spay and neuter your pets! Dogs and puppies are available for a small adoption donation. At this time the facility does not offer vetting of impounded animals, but we do have a discount mobile spay/neuter clinic that comes onsite every two weeks. We can assist you in scheduling an appointment to get your new companion spayed or neutered at a much reduced cost.

URGENT, 70 DOGS IN TEXAS NEED HELP.
Dear Animal Friend,

We are sad to report that there are 70 dogs at a sanctuary in Odessa, Texas who need to be placed in loving homes. They are currently at a sanctuary run by a wonderful man who is in the last stages of prostate cancer. If these dogs are not rescued soon, he will be unable to care for them and a local humane society will put them down.

Most of the dogs are mid- to large-sized. All the dogs are friendly to dogs and humans; they are starved for human affection. There are no aggressive dogs. The dogs have been neutered and spayed, vaccinated, tested for heartworm and tick fever, treated for ticks and fleas, treated for tapeworms and some have undergone extensive dental work. Most of these dogs have been in the sanctuary for 1 to 5 years. They have not lived in homes, so they will require some socialization.

If you or anyone you know has the time, patience and the room in your heart and home to provide for one or more of these animals, please contact Max Green at Max@idausa.org or leave a message at 415-388-9641, ext. 222 and someone will get back to you right away.

Thank you for all that you do to help animals.

Sincerely,

In Defense of Animals

Subject: Reward for Milo

The Carollos want to post a $1000 reward for Milo's return.  Attached
is a new reward poster that Judy created.  It has a lot less info on
it than our other posters because of the size of the reward.   Anita
Wollison of No Animal Left Behind has kindly offered to be the
contact, and she is the only email contact on the poster so that we
won't have nuts calling the Carollos at all hours.  We deliberately
want to leave phone #s and details about Milo off of this poster.
Those who respond will have to supply those details.

Let's get this poster out there.  Please feel free to cross-post, put
it on blogspots, copy and post at Petsmarts, your vet's office, dog
shows, trials, agility competitions --anywhere you think might help.

Many thanks, Jane

Hello all, I help volunteer at a Pit Bull Sanctuary.  There are  21 Beautiful dogs there.  It is on 10 acres, they are worked with daily, Some are ready for adoption, I have some photo's to put on the website, you can view them at my albums, The website ( which is in great need of updating, but #'s the same, most of the dogs are still there.) except Hennessy, she has an awesome homeow, but comes back to visit!! I know most people want a new cute sweet puppy, some are afraid to take in a Pit they know has had a past, but I asure you, they are only there if they are non aggressive, go through a screening by the owner, Amanda.  These sweeties are so in need of a for-ever home, and some one to snuggle and love!!!  Website: http://www.pawsitivelypitbull.org/

3 Legged Dog Raised 3 Litters - Now Faces Death! February 22, 2006 8:53 AM

Breed: Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix
Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
ID:
Location: Gaffney, SC

Notes: Little Bit is a sweet, young girl, whom we think is a pit bull mix. She is a small-medium sized dogs (height wise) but is very stocky and nice and fat from having puppies. She loves children and all people, is great with other dogs (especially puppies) and comes when called. She loves everyone and everything, but can be protective of her babies. She has had her puppies taken away from her (they were adopted) and took in two other litters. She was so torn from getting her litter that she gave birth to taken away, that she doesn't like anyone to take away her "new" puppies. She would never hurt you though. She had some sort of a bad past, we do not know what happened, but she was either beat or born the way she is--she has one very small leg that has something wrong with it. She does not walk on this leg, we do not know if it should be amputated or not. Her leg does not stop her though, this is a great dog that you do not want to miss out on! At the moment, she is in South Carolina but could be transported to her new home if somebody is interested in her. Hurry--this girl doesn't have much time left!
