Rainbow trout and the environment March 29, 2008 7:40 PM

Some of the members of this group may wonder why, we, as a conservation group, are posting a thread about trout farming.

As the river and oceans fish species start to disappear from mismanagement of fisheries and pollution from the land activities of humans, it will become more important to have the capacity to sustainably produce food containing omega fatty acids.

Oily fish, such as trout, have a high content of omegas.

The world average for ‘feed to food’ for trout is 2.2 pounds of food in for 1 pound of food out. Salmon farmed fish have a 7 to one ratio.

But Arc en Ciel have a different attitude, and a system that not only allows a ratio of one to one, but has zero impact on the water being used for the farming.

Pumps are not required, lowering the carbon footprint of the growth stage of the production to almost zero.

The water flows in and out of the system within hours, is tested and constantly monitored for fisheries and the dept of conservation and climate change, coming up well within established guidelines.

Due to the proximity of the source of the stream, viral attacks are not likely from above the farm, and allows a zero antibiotic feeding regime. Infusions of mercury, fire retardant, zoloft, prozac, dioxides, cadmium, phytoestrogens, and a horde of other man made chemicals found in river and ocean fish are not present in Arc en Ciel trout, for the same reasons – clean water, pristine growing environment..

Whale call is of the opinion that a cleaner eco sustainable fish cannot be found
