WELCOME! January 28, 2006 9:11 AM

I`m a relative newbie to Internet Radio though I`ve wanted to get involved with it for some time now. Especially in a DJ capacity.

I hope everyone will do their best to demystify the ins & outs of being or becoming a DJ here.

Also, please post any and all Internet Radio Providers here for us to peruse ? I realize that we may have our favorites and that is understandable but please take into account the various needs of others as well.

anonymous Hello, January 28, 2006 7:48 PM

I don't know anything about Internet Radio or being DJ.  Except that I like music and use to play the violin.  My only experience talking on a radio was that of talking to airplanes and making hourly weather recordings.  Are you thinking about becoming an Internet Radio DJ or something Donna?

Tell me about you, and your aspirations in this group.  It seems you like to help people in facilitating for worthy causes.  Are thinking about using Internet Radio to further that endeavor?

Hello all February 02, 2006 2:47 AM

Hello all, I am not an internet DJ though I help with a club here at care2 for my friend and fellow member who is, Ken C. http://www.care2.com/c2c/group/shineonradio

Beyond that I consider myself something of background support; helping to locate new music to be played, discussion/theme topics and a way, way in the back technical monitor. Along the lines of listening and keeping a live IM running for notes like: “Ken, your mic is still on. The streaming speed is kind of choppy. Volumes on voice need adjusting,” things like that. When it is live there are so many things to juggle and it helps to know what is being heard on the listener’s end.

Thanks for the invite. As some may know I've had a bit of a radio thing going on at my website. some of my interviews are archived and some are not yet.

I was using winamp and shoutcast..but I had my hard drive wiped out a while back and getting my winamp and shoutcast coonected to each other again seemed impossible.

Someone else had set the thing up for me then left the country, so I had noone to reset it up again for me. I can't seem to figure out how to get shoutcast connected to my winamp again. The 2.0 version of winamp, as far as I know is the only version that works for this...in other words, the old version. I do have that, but can't connect up to shoutcast. And they have literally no tech support except for a forum that has rejected my sign-in process each time and they won't return emails, except generically. Anyone else got any ideas?

Here are some of my radio pages. http://girlsgofishing.com/radio.htm

Hi Melissa & Arlene February 02, 2006 9:09 PM

It is my hope that we`ll be able to assist each other in our needs here relating to DJ`ing etc.

Just coming together in one spot on this group should help us in sharing much needed knowledge and expertise.

Everyone please do what you can to assist others in such need.

I am new February 26, 2006 2:21 PM

Thanks for the invite.  One of my favorite internet radio stations is www.ecoshock.org    This can be heard on your computor or ipod and it is a natural for Care2.  I sent some sound clips of my poetry and they put sound effects with them to use in between broadcasts.  The poems were from my book, The Wilderness Within, a book of nature poetry.

I have also written a non fiction book, the Dynamic Great Lakes.  It is also a natural for Care2 since it is an eco friendly book.  Both books are available on Amazon.com with Search Inside features and at a lot of other places.

I have a website: www.geocities.com/barbaraspring

Thank you for the invite to join in.  I am a producer for a internet talk radio network and for me it has become one of my greatest passions in life.  It's wonderful to meet others who share their time and passions to reach out and connect with others.  The Care2 network has been one of the most fantastic sites I've had the pleasure to become involved with.  [ send green star]

Thanks, Donna, for the invite!  I don't know anything, either about internet radio or being a DJ.  Heck, I just figured out how to rip a copy of a song from a CD to puter files and store it in an online storage space (I don't own my own computer - I use public ones....)....   !!!

But at least I did that....

Hi everyone.... February 05, 2008 4:13 PM

Thanks Donna for the invite. I have wanted to do this even if it's from my own home by my little camera I got for the top of my computer. Haven't figured out how to use it yet....Any ideas are greatly appreciated.  [ send green star]

Red February 05, 2008 4:55 PM

Interesting point. It didn't even occur to me that an Internet DJ could be "seen" by webcam. I wonder if that's possible for a broadcast. It would certainly jazz things up.  [ send green star]

Hi Donna, February 07, 2008 11:27 AM

anonymous Hello everyone..... February 08, 2008 4:42 PM

and thanks to my friend Doris for inviting me!  The only experience I have with radio is ten years in the business on the radio, and teaching the business as well.  I left radio under the most horrible of circumstances.  My mother had passed away, and I was taking care of my terminally ill father when the station called me, in Arizona, and told me I didn't need to hurry home, they had canceled my talk show!  That's when I turned my back on the business.  Too cut-throat for me.  I would be interested in learning about this internet biz though.... I'll be around to check out the threads and what's going on.  Thanks!  [report anonymous abuse]

Hi all February 08, 2008 5:06 PM

... yes it was me who gratefully joined with the sole aim to invite my friend Brenda above - and see her get back in business again... - that is I long to hear her - I never heard her shows, we only learned to know each other about a year ago, but she sure has the most stunning voice on the phone - soft, warm, a bit dark and husky - it's just WOW! And she is so knowledgeable about music, too - in another group we had a "Brenda chooses music"-thread and her mix was a revelation... I can add that she is wise, sensitive and has a lot of humor...
How I long to hear a program made by her ---- if you do Internet-radio - is the program somehow recorded? Can some-one on the other side of the world get to listen to it?
So, come on Brenda-gal - I know you are a fast learner - absorb this all quickly, and then won't you, and then get started; don't let old bad memories keep you back forever ... It's a new chance coming your way...
Are there any smaller working-teams forming around these interests, now? Like getting producers, technicians, hosts etc to come together and make dreams come real... ?
All the best to Brenda and every member here, people need to be creative or they are more dead than alive, and this way of expressing one's creativity seems very creative to me...
Follow your bliss!!!!

I was a dj at a college station in a major market, back when a segue was a work of art and public radio was still free.  We spun vinyl -- no CDs, and we only used carts for public service announcements.

The record companies tried to influence what we played by way of hosting wild parties and offering assorted freebees, but DJs still had creative control and the First Amendment was alive and well.

The internet offers an open door.  Let's step in -- after all, We Want the Airwaves.
