I need a place with good glass beads or semi precious stones July 22, 2005 6:16 AM

Hi I just recently started making jewelry and I need a place to find good glass beads and then semi-precious stones. I love Aunties Beads (it's online) they have a great selection, but it doesn't cover all of my needs. I'm a stay at home mom and have a website of my jewelry, if you are interested check it out! http://groups.msn.com/CustomJewelrybyYvonne  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Beads online July 23, 2005 7:59 PM

I have found just about any bead i can imagine at Fire Mountain Gems. They even have an online place to put their beads together so you can see what they will look like before you order them. They seem to have really good prices and do wholesale their beads and findings. Kathypeach  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

I have to agree with Kathy. I think that www.firemountain.com has the best beads i can find for the price. There are a lot of other places but these are priced the best. You really need to get a catalogue. The catalogue has a lot more selection . Call them and order it . The number is on the site. Thanks Lou C  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

After you try that There is another place. Call Rio Grande. They have all sorts of packaging stuff and things to use for a business type thing. You might want some of their catalogues too. Last time I looked they didn't have to much on their site yet. They have 3 catalogues. One for gems, beads and findings. and one for packageing supplies and one for stuff to make your own settings or castingss and that sort of stuff, like machines and how to learn to become a real jeweler. Tha's probably a little over whelming . But if you have a site to sell your jewelry, they do have nice packaging stuff. Thanks Lou C  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

good beads. August 19, 2005 7:11 PM

Hi just joined the group, I have been beading for a number of years now. One good thing I found once I started selling was to get a Tax #. The price you pay between wholesale & retail can be quite substantial. Also , when you have a tax # you can purchase from a wider group of vendors, many won't sell to the open public. Fire Mountain is a good start but I have found that most of their semi-precious stones are of a lower grade & have irregular sizes & holes, & their prices are much higher than if you were to buy wholesale elsewhere. You might want to check out Bead & Button Magazine they have oodles of places to buy really cool stuff as well as alot of really good articles & instructional info. They also have a website that is worth while checking out. Happy beading.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Beads August 21, 2005 8:04 AM

Hi guys, I sent away for a vendors licence for Virginia. The IRS sent me a tax number. Now with that yoiu have to fill out and send baack forms like every 3-4 months. So I told them to closed it out . Then I ask for a vendors licence. THey said the tax ID is it. So even though I'm not making any money yet. I have to fill out tax forms. I don't know. Are the beads reaally that much cheaper and better to go through all that? Well if it's cheaper and better maybe it's worth it. I'll have to send away for my Virginia Tax Id. Not the federal tax ID.Thanks for the info Lou C  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

TAX # August 21, 2005 9:02 PM

YES THE PRICES ARE MUCH CHEAPER, PLUS YOU CAN FIND A GREATER VARIETY & GRADES OF BEADS & STONES BECAUSE YOU WILL HAVE ACCESS TO ALOT MORE MERCHANTS. WHAT YOU WANT IS A STATE SALES TAX #. YOU DON'T NEED A FEDERAL #. YOU WILL HAVE TO REPORT ANY SALES & REMITT ANY SALES TAX DUE. I'M GUESSING IT WOULD BE QUARTERLY FOR YOU. IT IS EASY TO DO & COSTS YOU NOTHING. IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON SELLING YOUR STUFF YOU WILL MOST LIKELY NEED TO DO THIS. ALOT OF CRAFT FAIRS, MARKETS & ART SHOWS REQUIRE YOU HAVE ONE. IT WILL SAVE YOU ALOT OF HASSLE TO GET ONE AHEAD OF TIME ESPECIALLY IF YOU WANT TO DO A SHOW OR EVENT FOR THE UPCOMING HOLIDAY SEASON. (YES I'M TALKING CHRISTMAS ALREADY). IF YOU ARE JUST A CASUAL BEADER THEN SOMEPLACE LIKE A LOCAL BEAD SHOP OR FIREMOUNTAIN SHOULD WORK FOR YOU.I HAVE TO ADMIT GETTING STARTED DOES TAKE SOME GING. IT TAKES A WHILE TO ACCUMULATE AN INVENTORY ESPECIALLY WITH BEADS BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT YOU NEED VARIETY IN COLOR , SHAPE, TEXTURE, SIZE, & COMPOSITION. HOPE THIS HELPS.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
