Love and Marriage:The Battel for Equaity Category: Life Frank Sinatra sang a song called- ''Love & Marrige''. The words said- "Love and marriage, love and marriage Go together like a horse and carriage This I tell you brother You cant have one without the other Love and marriage, love and marriage Its an institute you cant disparage " The GLBT Community needs the chance to love and marry.Yes, I believe that lesians, gay men, transgenders should have the right to marry. How can we as a society bar people from saying in public that 'our love has brought us together and now, it shall keep us together." Please go to Marriage Equality- http://www.marriageequality.org/main_home.php People need to stand up for their right to marry and be given in marriage. Maine fought the battel for gay rights and the battel was won- http://www.thenation.com/blogs/edcut?pid=35921 In Maine, the question of marriage was brought up by the other side-They cried Protect Marrige ...etc, etc...Thank God, the voters in Maine where and are far smarter than that. Let me put it this way,I heard on the local Christian radio station - 50 % of all marriages fail- I then heard 50% of all Evangelical marriages fail.I heard that more than 50% of all marriages suffer from adultery. This could well be a good soiurce of worry. It might be wise if they got their own act together, cleaned up their own home and their own yards. If they so belive in marriage, then do it right. Please prove to us you can do it right. We won't object to a good example if we can find one-Do not deny us the right to marry because you feel insecure about it.... It would good for them to get their noses out of other people lives, out of other peoples homes, out of other peoples families. We know how to love, we know how to come together in a loving union, we know how to start and build family, we know how to raise happy and healthy children.( come on, we learned from you but then -we learned a few things on our own) I am not saying -We can do it better. What I am saying is we should have the right. If we fail then we may be no better than you but we did have our chance... Give people a chance-They just might surprise you after all !!!! The Bible tell us what to do with LOVE- English: Young's Literal Translation 1 Corinthians 13] 4. The love is long-suffering, it is kind, the love doth not envy, the love doth not vaunt itself, is not puffed up, 5. doth not act unseemly, doth not seek its own things, is not provoked, doth not impute evil, 6. rejoiceth not over the unrighteousness, and rejoiceth with the truth; 7. all things it beareth, all it believeth, all it hopeth, all it endureth. 8. The love doth never fail... SO PLEASE GIVE PEOPLE THE CHANCE TO MARRY AND LOVE-For ' love doth not fail...AMEN !!!!! Universal Declaration of Human Rights - Article 16 May 24, 2006 12:03 PM

You the longest time I thought that I would have wanted to work for the UN, supporting their efforts to grant human rights across the globe. I had read articles about some of the good they had brought to the world through their many departments: education, doctors, technology, restoring environmental damages, helping refugees and orphans, etc.. However, I was curious if I could also see them as an ally to the GBLT community. I searched through their policies and laws until I found their "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" http://www.un.org/Overview/rights.html I was pretty excited about this until I read Article 16. It is in regards to marriage, and this is what it shows: Article 16. (1) Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution. (2) Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses. (3) The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State. At first I was furious, disappointed, frustrated...I read that marriage was a right reserved for men and women as a heterosexual couple. However, I then realized that that is not exactly what was written. In fact, there is no specification of how a marriage is defined. So, men have a right to marry and women have a right to marry. By this point a man can marry a man or a woman or both, and same for a woman. Following this point one cold say that pointing out the "without any limitation due to race, nationality and religion" is superfluous, but if the UN wants to keep it, I suggest that they could add "gender and orientation" and change "race" to "ethnicity" to the first point of the Article. Basically it would sound like this: Article 16. (1) Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to ethnicity, nationality, gender, orientation or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution. (2) Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses. (3) The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State. I was thinking about writing the UN a letter pointing out the bias language inherent in their Articles, offering them the perspective that failing to amend their declaration may not honor their image of an organization working for "human rights", and propose an alternative to Article 16. Would anyone help me with this? Also, if anyone could point out other bias language in their daclaration, we could work on those too. On a side note, what is intended by "full age"? Take care, ~Julia  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
