celebrate National Coming Out Day October 11, 2006 3:44 PM

Today is National Coming Out Day, and we celebrate by honoring openness, honesty and bravery. The theme for the Coming Out Project is “Talk About It” – because talking about your support for equality, and how that affects your life and the people around you is one of the most important ways you can make a difference. Today, HRC, in partnership with PFLAG, is proud to launch our first ever resource specifically for friends and family – “A Straight Guide to GLBT Americans.” The guide is a resource that helps map some of the emotions straight people feel when someone first comes out to them, walks people through myths and facts about GLBT Americans, and outlines ways straight people can demonstrate their support. Download your copy today to share with your friends and family. Want to see how Steven Spielberg, Bill Clinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ellen Degeneres, Janet Jackson and many other leaders and celebrities Talk About It? Click here for a brief video in honor of National Coming Out Day. actioncenter/COP_TV-2 Laura Linney and Joe Solmonese Laura Linney and Joe Solmonese "talk about it" photo by Sophia Hantzes Hundreds of people from around the country, from celebrities like Laura Linney, Billie Jean King, Lance Bass, Reichen Lehmkuhl and many other people who support openness and honesty are participating in HRC’s online public art project – “HRC’s Snapshot Photo Project.” It’s easy, fun and a great way to participate in National Coming Out Day!
