LOL Cheryl they are so cute!
Thank you for the beautiful pictures!
It's so hard to get a good shot of them during the day because they're all snuggled down and you can't see their faces. This is a strange looking picture -- double decker -- with the one trying to make the other one mama and crawl under her. lol
Finally got their faces for a few moments today.
It looks like she's saying, "How do I get out of this?"
The Baby owls are still fluffy, huddled together and sleeping today!
Yippeeee.... I'm glad you peeked in on them, Barb! I looked last night and it was the first time I'd seen them on their own. The smaller one was leaning into the bigger one for warmth and security. They aren't too far apart in age so they will survive just fine.
... big cuddly, soft, fuzzy-wuzzy babies I want to hug! -- oops, a mouse might not last long in there! lol
Aaaawww little baby owls are so cute leaning on each other! They are still really fluffy.
Aaaawwwwwww Gee Cheryl that is sad. What happens to their tiny bodies? But what adorable pictures Cheryl. Thank you for those
Just as happens in nature sometimes, we have lost two of our little owls. The two youngest, Alice and Roo, didn't make it. I have learned everything through the eagle/hummingbird threads as many of the chatters are watching all webcams.
It seems Alice may have been hurt when mom returned one night after a short leave. I just learned about the youngest, Roo, today. He was just too small compared to his two older sisters and just couldn't get enough food.
Here's some cute pictures tonight of Sydney and her two remaining babes.
Little Boomer looking out:
"I love you mommy!"
Hi Mary and everyone! Aren't they cute?!
It looks like one chick but there is another right under mom's chin. Boy, are they ever fluffy!!
Too big to get under mom now - this must be Maggie - but she still likes to get her head under momma's wing. It's good there's more room for the smallest ones under mom. Mom has been preening them and it looks just like a mother cat or dog would lick their little ones.
i can just see mum all cuddled up with her chicks very cozy
thanks Cheryl just off to check on them now
Thank you dear Barb! I love how you say "AAaaaawwww" because I can really feel you saying it and smiling!
Here's a few pics from today. MAGGIE is huge compared to last 'born' little ROO. I can't believe they are growing so fast.
Sydney lifted her wing and there was just a big ball of fluff!
FINALLY... a face popped up! This must be Maggie because she's quite big.
But the last one, ROO doesn't look like he even has much fuzz yet. Look at the difference a week makes!
AAaaaawwww Cheryl!!! Big Round fuzzy breast Maggie
Cheryl I really appreciate your reporting of our dear momma's and babies! YOu do a supurb job!
Just a week ago they were so tiny! That big round fuzzy breast in front of Sydney is actually to eldest "child" - Maggie.
From what I get from the chatters, Maggie gets the food and there is concern for the last hatched, Roo. I'll come back tomorrow when there's better lighting and see if I can catch the rest of them.
I decorated their little housey as it looked a bit dull. lol
WE HAVE THE 4TH BABE and his NAME IS ROO - "Born" today!
Oh they are soooooooo cute! I "borrowed" a picture taken by someone else on the following link:
Mel & Sydney's Daily Blog
This is a really interesting website set up for Mel & Sydney and there is a great Memorial for McGEE with great pictures and info. PLUS -- you can leave a message for Carlos and Donna who care for the cameras and owls should anything go wrong. They are really upset about McGee. I've left a thank you message for them.
Aaaawwwwww Babies? Wonderful!
I just peeked in to see what was going on (my time: 8:45 p.m.) and watched for a few minutes. Mom was making a noise that sounded like someone blowing their nose! I think she may have been saying she was hungry and hurry up with dinner.
All of a sudden Dad flew in with a rat or something and a stupid ad came on so I didn't get to see the transfer of the rat to Mom. (Thank heavens the poor rat wasn't alive). So Mom was sitting there with a rat in her mouth and I could hear babies squealing!!
As you can see, at this very moment there are three little ones: Maggie, Boomer, and Alice. We are on EGG WATCH for #4, which should be any moment!
Hi Lynn and Barb. I was quite upset too when I read about McGee. His nick-name was "Legs" because he was so tall and it used to make me laugh to watch him standing on one (tall) leg.
I will keep my eye open to read more, but I think Molly will be on her own for awhile. It was very special for us to have been able to watch this wonderful couple raise all their young. We are truly blessed to have been able to see that.
Aaaaaawwwwwwww Poor McGee. Maybe he will come back if he can. Oh dear I hope he didn't pass away.
It is so great to see the owl nest again!
I'm so saddened to hear about McGee, Cheryl. He and Molly had been together, having babies and growing together for such a long time and to hear that he's gone is heartbreaking.
Among the good news about Mel and Sydney, I have just come across some very sad news. McGee (of Molly and McGee) has not been seen and it is believed he has passed away. What a wonderful mate and father he was and all who watched this couple will not forget him.
"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we are reporting that we have not seen McGee since March 9th, the day DeeDee hatched. We think he is gone. Last night, since McGee had not returned, Molly made the decision to go hunt for food, leaving DeeDee and the three remaining eggs to fend for themselves. We were expecting the second egg to hatch anytime, in fact we thought we could hear peeping. Molly returned with a small mouse after about 45 minutes. All appeared well as Molly snuggled down on the eggs and began to feed DeeDee. We turned in for the night."
From what I can find out, the following picture was taken March 11th when there were two chicks, another (3rd) hatched on Sunday the 12th, and we're awaiting one more!
1st clutch of 2012
Date Laid ________ Estimated Hatch Date
Egg 1 Laid 02/05/12 time 8:16am Hatch eta 3/4-3/8
Egg 2 Laid 02/07/12 time 09:58am Hatch eta 3/6-3/10
Egg 3 Laid 02/09/12 time 01:12pm Hatch eta 3/8-3/12
Egg 4 Laid 02/11/12 time 10:34pm Hatch eta 3/10-3/14
ISN'T SHE BEAUTIFUL?!!
Keep your eyes open for a glimpse of the chicks and get a screenshot if possible, please. I saw an egg in the fuzzy pic that someone else took so they may not all be hatched yet. Yippee, more babies and in colour! I wonder if Molly & McGee are around somewhere?
