"NOBODY IS BORN HATING ANOTHER PERSON BECAUSE OF THE COLOUR OF HIS SKIN, OR RELIGION, WE ARE TAUGHT TO HATE. SO IF WE ARE TAUGHT TO HATE, WE CAN THEREFORE LEARN TO LOVE AND LIVE IN PEACE" - NELSON MANDELA

Princess Diana obviously thought he was a great person. It's somewhat strange to see them together.
A very awesome leader. May you rest in piece Nelson.
Nelson Mandela was my very first hero and that did not go down at all well in the racist household I grew up in. Although to be fair, back then anyone who was not born and bred Anglo Saxon British was considered inferior by most older, but not all, Brits. Thank goodness times have changed and we have collectively smartened up. It is a great pity that the many dishonourable politicians of today do not live their lives and conduct themselves as Mr. Mandela did. His humility and dignity commanded respect from all he came into contact with. I am happy to say he was granted the very first Honourary Canadian Citizenship! He will continue to be a shining light for many generations to come.
Much loved in Canada our news programs this morning had content only about him. Last night I watched a documentary on his life and I am certain many more will follow in the next few days and weeks.
what a giant among men rest now great one
Inspiring Quotes by the Great Nelson Mandela
Nicely said, Sue. I was in grade 7 before we had a boy with dark skin come to our school. Actually, most the girls fell in love with him within seconds because he had the most endearing smile! He stayed in our school for such a short time, about a week. So we really didn't get to meet anyone with darker skin than someone with a tan or sunburn!
But we did hear about Gandhi and other very special people from cultures and countries very different than where we live here in BC. Look at Mr. Mandela's smile in those pics... I feel as though he's sitting right across from me because I smile back.
June, those quotes with pics are very special. Thank you all for posting here. There's a feeling of not wanting to let go of someone who has made such an enormous contribution to mankind. We need these people. We need each and every individual who has peace and kindness in his or her heart.
Remembering Mandela In Song
The people of South Africa are still learning to cope with their lost leader, Nelson Mandela, or Madiba. In a beautiful and heartwarmng surprise for Woolworth's grocery shoppers, the Soweto Gospel Choir broke out in song in memory of Mandela.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, JUNE! That was absolutely beautiful! People were smiling and Spirit was definitely present. Truly touching and heartfelt.
Wonderful video June thanks for posting it. I'm still crying, it was so beautiful!
