It's a beautiful day today.  The birds are singing outside my window.  Think I'm gonna take a hike at Cheesequake State Park.  It's so peaceful there.

Hello to all:  I  am from Middlesex County.  I lived in Momouth County for 5 years and moved back home (haha) to Middlesex County.  I am now living on the same street that I grew up on, I grew up in the first house on the street, now I live in the last house.  Go figure, I love this town. I have lived in Jersey all my life.  Love this state.

Hello all, I'm from union county and new to C2. I still have not figured this site out. I am surprised this group is not more active seeing that us jersians are usually loud and obnoxious.

Hi Bev, sorry for the delay in welcoming you.... I agree with Jane, "once a New Jersean, Always a New Jersean." You should always feel welcomed in your old home (or at least in an online group representing it). Thanks for joining the group.

Thanks so much! May 13, 2007 7:37 AM

Hi Jane,
Thanks so much for the wonderful welcome.  If you could see how I'm sitting here smiling thanks to all the wonderful memories you just woke up for me!

And, yes - Metuchen is a wonderful place.  I always loved the Country Fair in the Autumn.  It was so much fun to wander around and dig through the books the library was selling off, check out various and sundry crafts, and see what different community groups were up to.   There were lots of charities that you could offer your support to, petitions to sign, and with election day right around the corner, plenty of political activity, which some people were annoyed by, but I never saw it interfere with anything going on at the fair at all.  Of course, so much of that may have changed in the time that I've been away.

Ah....a nice brisk Autumn day in Metuchen.  Fond memories.

I'm way overdue for a visit back, so I'll have to keep an eye on what's going on to see when I'll try to arrange that.

Thanks again
Bev, the smiling homesick Jersey Girl.  lol

Hi Bev,  Welcome.  Once a Jerseyan, always a Jerseyan.  I live in Hope, up in Warren County -- yes, Land of Make Believe is still here and still family-owned.

I edit two weekly newspapers in Sussex County. My office is in Sparta where the traffic is starting to look as bad as in your old stomping grounds. And Wild West City is still here and still family-owned.

I have a couple of friends who used to work for the H-N-T before it was bought by the chain.

I belong to the NJPro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and our board meets in Metuchen, so I'm somewhat familiar with the Edison area.  Metuchen is such a great town -- booming, always people walking on the streets, nice restaurants and a great used book store.

I would love to travel, certainly to the UK, but I'm a true Jersey Girl.  Hope to hear from you again. Jane

I am very happy to be a member of this group.  If you look at my profile, you will see that I live in the UK, but take a look at my hometown and you will see Edison, NJ.  I lived there most of my life, but also lived in South Plainfield, Perth Amboy and a few other places before moving here 7 years ago.

I'm still homesick.

So, I thought this would be a wonderful way for me to maintain a tie.  I still read the Home News Tribune on line, but well, more personal contact would be wonderful.

I look forward to getting to know people here (and kinda wonder if there isn't someone here who might not already know me!    )

Cheers!  (had to sound like I live in the UK.  lol)

Hey Steph,

You might like the 3% sales tax we now have in Salem county.   Try looking to the other end of Salem county . You might like it better.

hi all,

i, too, have spent my life here. born in philly, i have lived in cherry hill all my life. i now rent the house i grew up in!

i like NJ, but hate the sprawl. one reason my DH and i are thinking of moving, at least away from cherry hill. we have looked at land in salem county - all the way down by the delaware memorial bridge. tons of open space, but it is starting to get developments built there to.

thanx for inviting me,

HI May 10, 2006 10:17 AM

Hello everyone.  I like the idea of this group.  I am a lifelong resident of new jersey, born and raised.  I know a lot of people, and I mean A LOT, who just can't wait to get out of here. But, I kinda like it here.  We are one of the most diverse states in the whole country, and I think that that puts us New Jerseyans at a cultural advantage.

Um, I am a college student.  I am going to school for teaching.  I love children and learning.  I am kind of a big geek, or dork.  I only have dial up modem, so I probably won't sign on here too often cause it takes too long, but I will check in to say hi every now and then.  SO, HI.

How does everyone like our new governor?  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
Hello! Thanks for the invite! March 25, 2006 6:07 AM

I've been a lifelong NJ resident.  Born in Englewood, Bergen County, and lived in Bergen County (Northvale, Washington Twp., Hillsdale and Westwood) until 1982 when I moved down here to Mercer County (Ewing, Lawrenceville, West Trenton, and Trenton).  I am a paralegal in Trenton, and also a student at Rutgers New Brunswick (Philosophy major, Mathematics minor).

I am active mostly through my church - Unitarian Universalist.  I am the facilitator of the Sustainability Circle which promotes sustainable living (environmental, justice, financial, etc.) though education of the congregation and the community at large; co-chair of the Green Sanctuary Committee which is seeking accredidation from the UUA (Unitarian Universalist Association) for taking action within the church and community that promotes "green" such as environmental, spiritual, justice, financial, etc.; and co-facilitator of the Earth-Based Spirituality Circle which celebrates the changing of the seasons throughout the year at the quarters and cross-quarters.

I also drive a hybrid vehicle, am mostly vegetarian, belong to an organic CSA, avoid as much as possible pre-packaged foods, am a member of ANJEE (Alliance of NJ Environmental Educators), and the Sierra Club.

Introductions March 24, 2006 5:58 PM

Hi everyone! Of course it's a word, but I think it's spelled New Jerseyans -- then again, I went to college in NYC -- ok admit it, how many of you bailed on the state for higher education???? But I came back.  I live in Hope Township, Warren County -- yes, Land of Make Believe is still here -- my best friends, they pay a lot of taxes.  We still have farms, not losing them as fast as Hunterdon, but. . . not many dairies, though. I plugged in to the Frapper map, too.  Not many from up this way, God's Country, we call it. But, I like nearly all  of NJ -- I wouldn't park my car in Paterson, but. . .

I work for a Public Relations firm in Hackettstown, home of M&M/Mars -- they call themselves MasterFoods now, but we know better. I am also a freelance writer and do quite a bit for New Jersey Farmer, so I know about Newfield and Malaga and Franklinville down South.

Glad to be here.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for the invite Toni. My name is Donna, and I am from South Jersey in Salem county, right at the very end, so I am closer to Cumberland and Gloucester county in Newfield.

This is a farming township here, and we try to keep it that way. We have an 80 acre farm across the street that is going to stay there for at least another 15 years. I shop in Vineland and Millville, but drive all the way to Deptford for Petsmart.

I was born in Philly, but we moved to Jersey when I was 6. We came to Maple shade, then Clayton, and I lived in Glassboro, Pitman, Malaga, Franklinville, Blackwood terrace, and Runnemede, and Camden for 2 months. LOL Got out of there fast.

I try to keep a low profile if I can due to my cats. I don't need anyone dropping anymore off here. I did go out to protest Willians horseman supplies about 15 years ago with a couple of animal rights groups, as they were buying cats for labs. They did finally get out of there, but I don't know about out of the business.

I also protested the Franklin Township showdeo many years ago because of calf roping. We had the Channel 3 news there for that one, and they never did it again. I was suppose to be out yard saling that day, and wouldn't you know they had my face right up on the TV screen for my husband to see. I told him I was going to some yard sales.

Well, now I am quiet and hiding out.

Nice to meet everyone.

I am from Flemington. I have live in Hunterdon County most of my life and the changes I have seen are many. When I was a kid there where many small farms. Not any more we have condos large houses all over. The farms are gone and much of the rolling hills are coverd with home now.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Moe Here February 23, 2006 10:32 PM

Moe here,

New Jerseans (Is that a word?)
I am in South Jersey. A town named Moorestown in Burlingtion County. (No, not Morristown. Morristown is in the north, Moorestown is in the south.) Those of us who have lived in Moorestown for several generations are called Moorestownians. (Pronounced Mores-'tone-ians) If we can call ourselved that silly name I don't see why those from NJ cannot call themselves New Jerseans.

Teacher Pattern
I don't know if you could include me in the teacher pattern. You may judge for yourself. I was in charge of all of the computers at a private school. Often the teachers would call me to walk around their room to help the children when they were working on the computers. I also give private computer lessons to adults.

On the Map
I have already stuck my pin on the Activists of New Jersey! Frapper map.Not only that but I have already gotten my first friend from this group in Frapper. (Thanks Natalie) The last time I checked there were 6 pins in the map, including one guy!

This group is growing
It looks as though there are 26 members now. On Tuesday there were only 17. That is a increase of 9 in one day.

Have either of you, Natalie or Francine, or anyone for that matter, seen Contested Territories?  It's a movie produced by Carolyn McGrath (2002) examining both sides of sprawl and growth in New Jersey -- I think she films in the windsor/princeton area.

<<An expressive and thought-provoking documentary portraying the filmmaker's divided feelings over sprawl, focusing on a development that is to be built in her hometown near Princeton, NJ. While she understands the need for affordable housing, she also feels open space preservation is a necessity. Additionally, the proposed development is very emotional for the filmmaker, because the area in question is a place where she often retreats to find solitude and to simply hike. >>

the other thing I was thinking -- was that it would be interesting to map out where everyone's from -- something along the lines of perhaps.

Francine... February 21, 2006 4:22 PM

I feel the same way. Where we live, the acres and acres of woods my husband used to play in and explore as a child have been destroyed for huge houses on tiny lots. It really is terrible

P.S. &, wow, 20 members now

Hi ladies! Thanks for the invite Rebecca

I'm a home grown Jersey girl. Born at Ft. Monmouth army base, and a former resident of: Keansburg, Union Beach, Hazlet, Caldwell, Red Bank, Eatontown, East Keansburg (aka North Middletown), and Belford. Currently living outside Ft. Dix in south Jersey.

The majority of my financial donations go the the United Way and Planned Parenthood NJ. I am also a sucker for...umm...I mean supporter of pretty much every Girl Scout troop, high school athletic team, school band, etc. that sells items for fundraisers. I can never seem to turn the kids down.

I'm noticing a pattern with this group - NJ teacher activists. I'm a teacher also - undergrad psych classes at the local community college.
