Thank you for the invitation.  I don't know much about Islam, as I am Greek Orthodox.

Calm N, actually you will find that since Islam and Christianity both have a common Judean ancestory there is little difference between them. Especialy with the older Christian denominations.

I believe you will see many similar cultural similarities as Greek Orthodox has kept it's Mid Eastern Heritage.

It is good to see all of you here. Lots of familiar faces. It is wonderfull to see that so many people do want to learn what a Muslim really is and for them to see that we really are very peacefull. actually most of us are probably too peacefull in that we do not admonish the radicals in our midst publicaly and many think we are showing acceptance because we don't publicaly denounce the lunatics.

Perhaps groups like this will help open the doors of communication.

Thank you for the invitation, Essam! February 23, 2006 2:23 AM

I am not a Muslim, but I have already learned a bit about Islam with the help of the discussion forum of the Muslim Public Affairs Committee UK.

I have learned, that Muslims and Christians have more in common, than most people think. There are quite a few differences too, of course, some of which are inacceptable for me.
That is why I know, that I'll never become a Muslim.

But I know, that Islam is a religion of peace, and that the vast majority of outbreaks of violence are in fact unislamic!
A lot of things get mixed up with social issues, which exist especially in the Arab states!

Looking forward to this place here.

anonymous Thank You For Inviting Me! February 23, 2006 5:02 PM

Hi Everyone.
Thank You Mohammed for inviting me.
I have studied your religion ~ and indeed it is a religion of Love ~ Beauty and Peace.
I have the texts right here in my Study still.
Each religion can and has had it's radicals ~ which scars the hearts of it's true people.
Cat Stevens ~ way back in my teens taught me about the heart of Islam.
And some wonderful Prophets did also.
I know that we are all one family ~ and that is where my heart and soul dwell.
When each one of us can manifest peace in our very own heart ~ then we have a hope of widespread peace.
I love everyone no matter their culture or religion ~ for We Are One.
I am deeply saddened by what is being portrayed by this current trait of world events.
If people would take the time to really read "The Koran" ~ they would be very surprised at the true heart of this beautiful culture.
In Divine Friendship and Unconditional Love.

Marc, 32, from the Netherlands February 24, 2006 5:53 AM

Hello all,

Thanks for inviting me to this group.

I've never been in close contact with anybody who's a Muslim, since a little while however I've add 3 Muslim people to my MSN list. A cooincidence...?

Anyway, me... I'm a 'great' example of 'knowing the Muslim religion through television', and... I have to agree, most of the times, it doesn't look good. Unfortunately, the happy live isn't shown on the news that often... Only the misery and dispare.

But, as I'm convinced in the good of people (besides the fact that so many people are Muslim) I don't blame the religion. As with all religions, it's the 'extremists' that make up the news, and it's the extremist that make it all, a mess...

Honestly, I can't believe in any God (no matter what religion) that allows 'murder', 'rape', 'molestation', 'spreading fear', 'terrorist attacts', etc., etc.

So, I'm very happy to be here, and to see the REAL Muslim religion. To learn what it's REALLY about.

I've e-mailed a lot of the links to my home-address already, so I can read more about your believes and ideas. And I bet... Most of these ideas go 'hand-in-hand' with what I've always believed in myself.

Peace & Love to all!!

Marc

I am happy to find a group like this, I am very new and really shy. I live on the Isabella Indian Reservation but I am originally from Bridgeview, Il. There is a beautiful Mosque there and many wonderful people of Islam. I do not know much about the religion, I just know that I miss my old neighborhood because of the kindness of the Islamic people, when times were hard for my children and I, it did not matter that we were of a different religion.  I look forward to learning.

Hello to all February 24, 2006 7:40 PM

I have to say this is a lovely place. People speaking respectfully and sincerely....ahhhhh I feel better just reading what is being said.

You may think how I feel is a bit different, but I attribute it to my feeling that humans are all related, no matter what. The way I believe life is, is the way of the Dali Lama. He has stated, when it comes to religions, that all beliefs are true, because it is from the heart and that no one is wrong in thier convictions if it is based on conscience, ethics and honesty. At least that is my view on some of the words he has spoken.

It is a sign of an open and inviting mind that allows for peace in one's heart and allows one to believe in their fellow man, with open arms. I feel this is the basic need for humane treatment of our fellow human beings.

I hope this made sense to you. It is hard for me sometimes to say what I feel in the right words.

Peace, Jacki

 February 24, 2006 7:56 PM

Thanks Woodrow.

Now, I am from Jewish parents. But my own heart tells me that I am more of a Universalist...more of a united front so to speak.

I also believe that the fringe elements of any belief system are divisions of humans.. I sort of believe in the science of life as well. Maybe I am mixed up on things, maybe I am just a spiritualist in nature. I don't like the way organized religions seporate humans, make labels and classifications. I see that as instant problems right there. Not a unifying thing at all.

Don't get me wrong. I have the upmost respect for people who are strong beliefs that only do good for humans. They are blessed with wonderful hearts and spirits.

The root of the evil is the ones that rewrite what is thier own interpritation of a religion, and create the chaos that we see today. That is the danger.

I remember a conversation with a cousin of mine abour Isreal and the Palestinians, on how I felt both were wrong....both were killing both were doing exactly what God would NOT condone. I tell you, that was a heated discusion.

But I talk too much.

Thanks for listening,

Jacki

I am not Muslim either but I like the impression I have got about this group and I wish to do what I can to stop religious discrimination and demonisation.

I also appreciate the Islamic culture of the Golden Age and am very interested to see what of the attitude still remains - we know so awfully little and the media is overflooded with Anti-Islam propaganda.

i TOO AM NOT MUSLIM February 28, 2006 4:19 PM

I have had enough of the talk about Muslims and how people just want to see them in a bad light - People as in people all over the earth arnt wonderful - in all our races we have bad apples.

We seem to want to push others down. Why cant  we live in peace and harmoney forever and just get on with it, without killing each other over religion. I am a christian woman and enjoy my Faith but dont push it onto others. I believe you should just enjoy your faith and not put it onto others at all.

Lets just enjoy our lives to the fullest in happiness and Joy. Peace and harmoney etc.

wa salaamu alaikum! March 01, 2006 7:39 PM

I was just reveiwing the posts and thought I'd mention something I feel is important.  When I first took shahadda (declaration of faith) my mom tripped...she's Jehovah's Witness, and was very opposed-one thing she said which I thought was strange was--"you can't be muslim, that's not your race..."  I tried to explain to her that Islam was not a "race" but a way of life, a religion inclusive of ALL peoples regardless of ethnicity...she was confusing the religion with "race".  I'm not sure if she understands to this day...but just thought I'd mention that!

Hello to everybody, and thanks Essam for inviting me!. I'm not muslim and it's a pleasure to be here and learn more about your religion. What I know about Islam is that it's a religion of peace & love.

I believe that we are all ONE, independently of our religion, beliefs, country or whatever. We are all in the same ship and the only thing necessary to survive is love and respect between all human beings. If we all understood this, our world would be for sure a much better home.

Some weeks ago I was sent by a friend this beautiful video about the oneness that we all are:

My wonderful, intelligent husband is a muslim and I share with him many beleifs. I pray only to one god. I value Mohammad, peace be upon him, as a prophet as I value Jesus and many others. I feel that problems arise when followers place a religion too high in importance, placing more emphasis on the religion then on god. God is in the little things too, not only in a book or a religion. A religion can be distorted and misinterpreted. A few radicals and extremists can give the religion a bad name, wars are fought and innocent people killed.  I like this group because of it's title , it IS the truth!  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

Thank you SO much for the invite. It means alot to me to be in a group, that if modeled across the world, could end the type of violence and problems we see emanating from both sides right now. Maybe we can serve as a model to the world in a miniscule version of what it CAN be like! Distrust comes from ignorance, and I personally don't want to be ignorant about anything least of all something so intrinsice to another humans soul as his or her faith. Bless you for starting this group!

Wa alaikumus salam Aisha,

Many thanks for your warm and enthusiastic welcome extended to me here.

I am of the view that every sincere follower of the true Islam will strictly adhere to its tenets the first and foremost being 'PEACE'. Under no circumstances a true follower of this religion will even think of being unjust. Because Allah (s.w.t) is just and therefore does like the unjust. So keeping in view this factor it is must that all Muslims should propogate the true Islam and present to the world its pure and prestine profile and not the distorted and ugly one which at present few opportunists and miguided elements are doing so. Apart, they should always present their problems etc., in such a subtle, friendly and peaceful manner that the opposite person or group is forced to take cognizance of their problems or hurt feelings and take prompt remedial measures.

It is nice to know that atleast a few of true like minded Muslims supported by their non Muslim friends have come together here to interact and share their views etc. in the right perspective.

Thanks once again for your welcome message. May Allah (s.wt) help us all in our aims and endevours.

Wassalam

Light, love and peace,

Abid

Thank you for inviting me to this group.  It is full of lovely people.  I learned some Arabic when a lovely Moroccan woman lived in Scotland for a while whilst her husband was studying.  I met her because her elder daughter was in my class.  She spoke no English but I spoke French and this made her stay in Scotland less lonely.  She had the most beautiful nature and I will never forget her.

I do not like to see Islam or people of the Islamic faith being abused and I have been angry at what seems to me a cynical attempt to cause trouble here.  It has been lovely to see such a civilised and tolerant response.

I kinda just stumbled upon this group. I have a great interest in all religions. I myself believe in God and Jesus as our Saviour so that makes me Christian right? But I don't see myself as your ordinary, everyday Christian I suppose. I have great respect for people and there free will to have faith in what whatever they chose. So I think this group will be very educational for me :)

Peace, Love, and many Blessings to all, Tiffany

Aloha April 14, 2006 8:59 AM

Howdy group,

Names Margaret. I am from America. I was given the invite by Woodrow a few days ago. I just haven't had a chance to introduce myself.

I am not Muslim, hell I ain't even religious. But I do stand for equility and rights of all people. So in my eyes even religion and the followers of any belief system have rights :-)

I am married and have 4 kids. 1 daughter 13, 3 boys. 10 ,6 and 4.

I accepted this invite, cause I want to know the TRUTH about Islam and the followers of this religion. I have a hard time when hearing people lump up a nation as a whole when they themselves wouldn't want that for their country.

How would America's feel if we were all labled as slave owners and hateful towards anything other then white people?????

The same is seen within this issue.

Tho I do not agree with Allah or for the record ANY religion. I feel that if your faith is followed cause that is what your heart truely desires then that is what you should fight for and argue for till your seen as an equal.

Well I think thats enough of my rabullsh!iting ;-)

Peace and Love,

Margaret

not that new actually May 11, 2006 2:52 AM

Salam and greetings to all,

I have been a member of this group for about 2 months now. I would like to apologise if I have not made any comments regarding the posts here. I'm in my final year of Uni, and things can get a little crazy at times... but I really do appreciate all of the posts. I'm glad that this group is able to clarify the beautiful message of Islam. So thank you to all ... :)

Another thing, I came across this website from one of the topics in this group www.faithfreedom.org... As a Muslim this website is really an insult to my faith and belief. Maybe some of the Muslims here has visited the website. It gives an absolutely wrong impression of the true teachings of Islam. I have many non-Muslim friends, and I believe that tolerance of other religions is something that Islam teaches us all. But this website just contaminates the minds of non-Muslims who refer to the articles there. I was just wondering what the rest of you has think about this website. thank you

And glad to see you posting. Welcome to the group. Hopefully we can all take a step in promoting peace and understanding  here.

anonymous  May 11, 2006 7:29 AM

I have come across that website before when researching for Nazanin. This time had a breif look inside the forum, did you see that Woodrow?  I feel as though if I were to post something positive about Islam it that forum it would not go over very well. There is one thread in the new members by "Open Your Mind"  Hmmmmm. I can't find anything about us. Maybe we should invite some over to our territory?

anonymous Hello Karla P, May 11, 2006 8:00 AM

In my personal experience, it is much better to refrain from inviting those who pass judgment on others with regard to their own convictions, religious or otherwise.  I did not go to the site, because based on what has been said here thus far, it is one of many who seek power and control through mired and socially convicted networking.  Recently in US news, there has been announced a fundamentalist religious leader being one of the 10 most wanted by the FBI for trying to arrange marriages between children and adults.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

anonymous  May 11, 2006 1:59 PM

Perhaps your right. The girl calling herself "open mind" wasn't going to proper source for her answers, an ant-islam website is only portraying the negative side of the coin.   [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

anonymous  May 11, 2006 6:42 PM

When reading the terms of agreement for the forum, it doesn't sound half bad....
"
We are not interested to dig more ditches but to build more bridges. " I couldn't spot any Muslims there however so the statements are fairly onesided. I'm going to investigate a little further. I definitely don't want to throw oil on any fire. The one "open mind" girl from Austrailia I would like to invite by request of Amberose but only if I feel I can do so in a peaceful way. I'm walking on thin ice in that place.  [report anonymous abuse]  [ accepted]

Greetings....

My buddy  Mohammed sent me an invite to join. Mo's a good guy that sadly I don't get to talk to more often. I know quite a bit about Islam... maybe more than the average westerner and have read the Koran many times in several differant translations.... but you it's always good to learn more and there is no better way to learn than through the views of everyday people. I'm a Buddhist (over 36 years)..... with a mixture of Advaitic thrown in to make it all that much more interesting. I'm not sure that I'll have anything of real importance to contribute to the group but I'm more than happy to just hang out with you guys... thanks and blessings.

Hello,

Thanks Zahra for the invite.  I wish to learn more about Islamic culture.  I am not Islamic nor do I wish it to become one but I do wish to learn and understand the basic tenements and beliefs of the culture. I think there is always time to stop and learn about another people and how they see the world.

Re: [The Truth about Islam, We are Peace, Love, Beauty and Tolerance] New Members Welcome October 24, 2007 6:42 PM

hello all, hi Zahra... I came to learn more about Islam. Alot of the news and politicans always seem to focus on the few fundamentalists that happen to be Islamic. I refuse to believe that every single muslim is the same belief, each is an individual and from personal experience I never met a terrorist in any muslim I met. --Kim toolbar.Care2.com Make your computer carbon-neutral (free). www.Care2.com Green Living, Human Rights and more - 7 million members!  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

My name is Sammantha and I just discovered this group. I want to learn more about Islam, not only for myself, but so I can speak intelligently about it to others. I too have known many people from the Middle East, and know them to be some of the sweetest, gentle and giving people. We need to come together so urgently, so many in this country are ignorant, and not willing to even listen to positive things about our fellow beings. I deplore this governments' attitude and the propaganda it is spreading. This is the most wonderful idea for a group, and I look forward to getting to know you all. Peace and love always.  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Welcome to the group.  Participate often, for the people in this group are some of the finest that walk the earth.  There's never a day goes by when I don't learn something new and important from this group and I always look forward to Zahra's bits of Islamic wisdom to apply to my own Christian life.

I am intrigued, though, by your comment, "I deplore this government's attitude and the propoganda it's spreading."  Care to expand those thoughts into something more specific?
