Back in the early 70's, I was living in Bartlesville, OK and had been teaching for a few years in Dewey, OK. I decided that I couldn't support a family of four on $7,500 a year so I quit and started looking for something in Journalism...ended up getting a job at The Fort Worth Press...It is long gone now...sad to write. But it started a love affair that goes on to this day, with the City of Fort Worth.
I stayed and prospered for over 15 years in Fort Worth and for personal reasons left for about 10 years. Now I am back and plan to stay until the bitter end.
I will post a little of the typical sites to get you interested but will from time to time post some off the beat places to go...ex: Best Mexican Restaurant to have Breakfast...Or the Best Blues Bar...
Some of the best art in the world is shown here on a regular basis. What is cool is it's right in the arts district...so park free and spend the afternoon looking at art...more to come.
If you like to get a feel for the old west you can't beat the Stockyards.
And you can have a whole lot of fun at the Sundance Square
Sundance Square, pretty picture but it doesn't do it justice. Sundance is very, very cool.
I'm going to stop for now...time to go mow my lawn but feel free to add comments, suggestions or whatever.
Rabbit Great pictures..Just for the others, that first picture is of The Modern...It shows modern art but the building is a work of art in it's self...also a nice place to have lunch or just coffee...they also show free movies...very cool place...
Thanks for such great pics and stories. please keep up the thread. i also love ft worth, it is one of our many cities that still has the old west feel despite moderization. great zoo also.
OK, when you do make it to Fort Worth, I went you consider Benito's at 1450 W. Magnolia Ave...817-332-8633 if you get lost. It's one of those places that is a little on the dumpy side...the one that some of us never try. It is very clean inside and friendly. It has an authentic Mexican menu to die for. I go there for breakfast...you won't be disappointed. If you do go, let me know.
Oops before I forget, here's what a local reviewer said about it.
Simple decor, enlivened by brightly painted ladderback chairs, characterizes this casual place, which offers fantastic Mexican food. The authentic restaurant, family-owned and located in the hospital district, also puts forth a hearty weekend breakfast. Some dishes you might encounter include chiles rellenos, Yucatan tamales, and stewed chicken with adobo sauce. In keeping with tradition, no chips and salsa are served - just as if you were in Mexico. The full bar makes available tasty margaritas, daiquiris, and a few other potent poisons.
Please don't to forget about Angelo's Barbecue Barbecue, Under $20, Fort Worth Diner Rating:4.0 Rate It This Rating
A Fort Worth institution since 1958, Angelo's is famous for succulent smoked ribs, so tender that the meat falls off the bone, and for the stuffed bear that guards the front door. Arrive early, as they've been known to run out of ribs well before closing. Reservations not accepted. No credit cards. Closed Sun.
This place is a hoot...it use to have saw dust on the floor but the city outlawed it ...President Johnson used it to cater the While House when he had a bunch of yankees he wanted to impress.
