Welcome April 13, 2006 7:37 AM

Here I am!! I think??  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 7:43 AM

Thank you Bert. I was actually thinking you might be a good choice for another neutral host for this. Maybe we will wait a few and see if more people show. I don't think many would argue that you would be fair. There still might be some people who do not think I would be neutral. All I can do is say that I would, and they could witness for themselves as this progresses. if it does go anywhere that is. I also think it is a good idea to leave this "emoticon" free. Let the words do the talking, not a silly smiley...  [ send green star]
anonymous  April 13, 2006 7:49 AM

So where are sammie and the lovely Rebecca?  [report anonymous abuse]
 April 13, 2006 7:49 AM

Your very kind EB, but remember you are tolerated in a lot more groups than I am. LOL. I wouldn't want to chase anyone away if they were to see I was involved. The emoticons are your choice, sometimes they help when interacting with someone who didn't know one well, but for direct debate I suppose your right.  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 7:51 AM

Dang Jeffrey!! Your like the Mike Tyson of Care2!! LOL. How many challenges are you going to do at one time??  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 7:53 AM

I figured once we have a solid foundation laid out on how this would operate then we could move on to inviting people in. I think having some established procedures locked down before too many others arrived would be a good idea. I suggested some very neutral rules in another thread.  [ send green star]
Suggested format April 13, 2006 8:25 AM

I have a few suggestions which I had for the ai debate group. My suggestion is that each side be allowed 3 posts to make their case. These should not be rebuttal at this time. After that each person would then be able to rebut the other person's posts up to three times. No name calling or personal attacks would be allowed. The thread would then be closed and pinned so that either side could link to it at any time. Anyone else posting on that thread while it was open would be blocked for a week (or some other punishment) and their post deleted. A seperate thread for comments by those watching would be open for discussion on who won or was winning etc etc.  [ send green star]

Let me know when you have a victim for me.  [report anonymous abuse]
 April 13, 2006 9:05 AM

David, Good ideas. I was thinking for simplicity purposes that we just setup a system where there is one set amount of posts to include: 1) introduction 2) body of argument 3) summation. We would have to figure out a fair way to decide who goes first, but I think rebuttals should be able to happen at any point in the debate. This would just make things a lot easier i think. More than having to have guidelines for one series of posts the switching to another set of guidelins for follow ons and such. What do you think? As far as peanut gallery posters, ya I think a little spanking after one warning would be fine. A day at first, then a week, then your gone. That would be the 3 strike system. let me know...  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 9:38 AM

I am here, if only to observe. Thank you for the invite.  [ send green star]
Buck April 13, 2006 9:47 AM

I that that your ideas are fine as well. But when I say peanut gallery I mean allowing a seperate thread titled something like "thus or thus debate comment thread". The punishment for violating the other thread would be something like you said...a slap on the wrist etc. As moderator you could put that warning in the first post of each thread as you detail the rules.  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 9:51 AM

Hey Steph, thanks for coming. David, Yes I agrfee 100%. No sidebar conversations going on during the evolution of the debate. After it is over, and the final posts are done, then and only then will threads pertaining to the topic be allowed. Is that waht you are saying? I will do revisions to the rules on the banner...  [ send green star]

YO! Still kind of hashing out rules here so far. But we have Jeff volunteering to take on the first match. Let me know if you have any suggestions. I really do want to keep this from becoming a typical slugfest. Maybe it will work maybe it won't. We will just have to try.  [ send green star]

anonymous  April 13, 2006 10:05 AM

where are the emos? Please turn them on...thank you.  [report anonymous abuse]
answer April 13, 2006 10:06 AM

Actually what I am saying is that a seperate thread for comments on the debate going on would be opened. They could not post on the debate thread but could comment on the ongoing debate on that thread. Once the debate was over on the debate thread it would be closed and pinned.  [ send green star]
Okay ... April 13, 2006 10:09 AM

Where are the emotis? How can there be any debate without emotis?  [ send green star]
What, exactly, do you mean by ... April 13, 2006 10:10 AM

"peanut gallery posters"?  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 10:11 AM

I was trying to keep emos out of the debate. I wanted the words to do the talking. Maybe I will turn them on for now, but they certainly will not be allowed during a debate. Sound good?  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 10:12 AM

By peanut gallery posters I mean: people commenting on the debate, during the debate. It needs to be between the two participants and them only. No outside influence until it is over. Cool?  [ send green star]
Okay ... April 13, 2006 10:13 AM

Otherwise, you'll see a lot of this: You get the drift. I'm the epitome of "peanut gallery poster" ... aren't I? I'll behave. Promise.  [ send green star]
Are we inviting? April 13, 2006 10:15 AM

Or waiting until you have ground rules?  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 10:15 AM

I kind of like that old school emo look Uno. I think I will keep them off. The only posts that would not be allowed during sidebar posts during a debate, would be the ones addressing the topic at hand. So, as long as you do not bring that up you will be fine.  [ send green star]
The only thing.... April 13, 2006 10:16 AM

I'm not cool with is the lack of emoticons. They are not silly and actually can be beneficial to some conversations. And then you have artsy fartsy California girls like me who were raised on Disneyland. C'mon, what's it gonna hurt? or =^..^=  [ send green star]
I'm okay with it ... April 13, 2006 10:18 AM

It's your group, Buck. I'm just here to watch, mostly. I'm not a debater, but I like to watch if it doesn't degenerate to ... bad stuff.  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 10:21 AM

Invite away I will setup up some more basic ground rules for participants and the gallery by the end of the day. Let them know: This WIL NOT turn into a slugfest. Let me give an example. If you can't say "well, I do not agree with your opinion" VS. "You are a loon, idiot, stupid, etc..." The don't bother joining. Let's be adults please. Maybe we can handle this in ONE group in care 2... That goes for everyone. If you want to have it out like that with someone from here, then please take it to another group where it is commonplace. All I am asking is people try to have respect while debating. It will add to the credibility of this group, and everyone in it. Thanks.  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 10:23 AM

I am just going to copy and paste that on my invites.... K?  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 10:25 AM

And also no referring to individuals who are not present here by any names either. If you want to address a person, use his/her name. That goes for anyone in care2, in this country, or in the world. Be civil. I can do it, can you?  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 10:25 AM

Uno, imagine a yellow round guy waving at you, saying hola. How ya doing? I am great imagine a yellow round guy nodding at you, and smiling broadly. I am not sure what folks you want in here, and what folks you don't, so I am not sure who to invite yet.  [ send green star]

 April 13, 2006 11:36 AM

we want civil debate in here. I am hoping the lack of emo's would not stop a person from joining. What did we do before Emos?  [ send green star]
anonymous  April 13, 2006 11:38 AM

Before emos.... we discussed things without having to rely on putting faces into everything to show emotion. We worded things so that the other reader knew what we were trying to show by being polite but firm in our beliefs. We had to discuss things like we were talking face to face with someone. It took critical thinking!  [report anonymous abuse]
 April 13, 2006 12:09 PM

That pretty much hits the nail on the head. You can still be creative though... ( /) ( . .) c('')('')  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 12:27 PM

Well, the issue of font saize came up, and that was the line. People need to be able to read what they have wrote.

Emoticons will not be allowed in the actual debate. Just you, and your words against an opponent.

Everywhere else it is cool. There is my type lag again. God I hate that...

I meant that care2 has a 6000 character limit per post, so there is no need to come up with a limit ourselves. Just use what care2 has restricted us too.

Hi all. I am interested in debating issues one on one with anyone, including the feral cat issue, electoral reform, tax reform, evolution is not a scientific theory etc. I suggest you start with a clear statement to be discussed that you agree with and I disagree with, as in formal debating.  [ send green star]
 April 13, 2006 6:19 PM

We have that aspect laid out FD.

Your topics are noted! I think it is good stuff too. I will get them posted somewhere that people can see.

Did you read the rules on the billboard?

Any input is welcome man.

I'm stupified, Uno. I thought we were linked already!

By the way, Bert, that Tyson reference you made very early in this thread is a reference to a comment I made in another group. Perhaps it was misunderstood, but it's definitely taken out of context. By no means was Jeffery referred to as "the Tyson of Care2." Please refrain from misusing my statements.

In my mind hat a says "Golan double". Misinterpret the interpretation. Facilitating my conscience does little for fun making regardless conscious. Brethren all around the core talk mouse, taking Vaseline before matters. In my mind undulations I see a farcical denial that when seen through a opaque mantra becomes valid.

Hi. all I'm here, but I don't know how much debating I'll be doing.  See I could go with Uno on the Photoshop vs PSP8 thing, but I don't have PSP8, and I've seen her awesome work with it, so I don't think it would be a true debate. (anyone got a copy of it they could send me???)

We could do...ponies vs bubbles...

By the way, Evil Bunny...I take it you're no longer evil???  You're just neutral now?  Does that mean no more shooting ponies?

Hi Lena! Thank you for the invite.  [report anonymous abuse]

The debate titles are listed on the Billboard section of the group homepage.

I am trying to stress that people really watch the billboard, as it will have all the up to date information of ongiong activities.

I am trying to promote an environment of consistency. That is why I am numbering the debates, then listing them up on the billboard with descriptions of the debate within.

Neat and clean.

I think once people get used to using the Billboard as a guide it will work just fine.

Hi Folks!!   *wave1*

Toni H!!   I didn't see your Tyson post, so I"m not at all certain what you mean, but if I've offended you,,,

When Tyson first entered the boxing world he was focused and ferocious, if he had stayed that way who knows where he might be right now.
