Well, that intro sounds pretty silly!  I am working at my computer after my hubby was logged into Care2.  I didn't realize that till I saw my post!  Well, he needs to be here, too!  So, I'll come back and join myself in a bit.  Sorry to confuse!  Yeegads - it must be past my bedtime!

Hello.. May 20, 2006 1:39 PM

I'm happy to have found this group!  Thanks to everyone here for their willingness to speak out about health issues.

I'm Sheila, 49 years old and the mom of 3 sons.  It's only been in the last few years that I've really encountered problems from health issues that have impacted my life.  Diet, exercise, and an attitude of positive re-enforcement are crucial.. as what affects the mind, affects the body, and vise-versa.  Determination and having a spirit of joy, as well as being blessed with family and friends who are supportive and understanding can make all the difference.

Looking forward to reading here and contributing with you all.  Thank you for a realistic group created to aide in further understanding and sharing encouragement.

 May 06, 2006 7:59 PM

Thanks for the invite - I can see this is a group where I can just Be....I could identify w/several of you and I wanted to hug you (gently) because chronic pain is so wearing at times - pain and depression go hand in hand - I don't mean to imply either one wins out over love and life because they don't. I've lived w/chronic pain from scoliosis/spinal fusion T6 to S1/hardware in/out/revision surgery, migraines (since age 26 - I'm 58), arthritis, chronic depression and anxiety (of course). I worked for 20 plus years until I got my priorities straight - as Oprah says God taps you on the shoulder; then slaps you on the face; then you run into a wall and finally if you still aren't listening the wall falls on you. I retired early and continue doing volunteer work when I can, Care2, etc. I have social work (hospice, grief, gerontology -aging) in my blood and work experience so I keep up w/health/medical info, plus I know I'll learn alot from each and everyone of you. I have two grown kids (23 and 30). You are all in my thoughts - talking and sharing the experiences of our lives is so life-affirming. I'm honored to meet you!

  Peace & light, Jennie B.

Fairly healthy April 29, 2006 9:29 AM

Well I'm in fairly good health but am always interested in ways to maintain that. Only problem for me is weight gain. I sail a great deal and diet is something I cannot always control. Don't like fast fixes or "TRENDY DIETS" but with a schedule of 6 weekd at sea and six weeks at home it can get difficult to control. ANY SUGGESTIONS.  DOUG  [ send green star]

Wow, I am so glad to see so many people joining this group.  I think it will be a wonderful group for so many of us.

I didn't say in my introduction what type of health problems I deal with so I thought I would add this so you all know what I am dealing with.

I have Epilepsy (Seizures are under control), Multiple Sclerosis, Degenerative Disc Diease, Gastritis, Diverticults, HIV/AIDS with AIDS diagnosis, Lipodystrophy, Periperal Neuropathy, and also have lots of migraine headaches. I was also born with Spinal Bifita Occult.

 April 28, 2006 11:12 PM

wow Anjee, you sound like me, . I have allergies, migrains, depression (brought on from being in pain all the time or so my dr says) ibs, osteorposis (sp?) and i have no idea what else as i lost my health insurance so havent been to a dr (other then my back dr) in a couple years (thanks to my back). You are so right about the things we miss! me and the kids used to go to a amusement park 3 or 4 times each summer, fav things were rollercoasters, bumper cars and pretty much anything fast lol, plus horse back riding, camping (maybe with a camper with a good bed in it but who can afford that? used to use tents and the ground, no way now). we used to go to a rollerskating ring every weekend (was very cheap) .cant sit in a car, has to be a van or truck or suv cause they are higher up(but cant drive too far.). walking is not too bad, swimming hurts but is good for me so in the summer i do that (pool is only open in the summer) and go to the drive in cause i can recline the van seat, take a couple pain pills and walk around any time i need to. but all the exciting things are gone for good.even eating out is painful, boyfriend doesnt understand why i dont want to go out .

when do you find out if you have lupus? I just seen this website on care2 (I mean someone posted it)

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that your dr has good news

hiya LuAnn, my boyfriend and 16 yr old daughter are bi polar (he also has diabetes and high cholesteral), daughter is also add and migrains. I have never met a guy who got migrains, is it less common in men? I dont wish them on anyone,I wish  life would stand still  till they are gone

to all (gently of cource! )

Jacki for the invitation!

I have clinical depression, high blood pressure and have been told there is a "good chance" I will develop diabetes at some point.

My DH has chronic migraines, kidney stones, bi-polar disorder.

Our oldest son has ADD and migraines.

Our younger son has Sensory Integration Disorder.

Our daughter was born 2 months early and weighed 3 lbs .4 oz at birth.  But my little 3 year old "harbor chick" (a la "Ghostbusters II") is the healthiest one of us all!

Hello let me introduce myself a little better.

Im Anjee  I have asthma, allergies to so many things, migrains, depression, fatty liver diease(NASH) Gerd, IBS, RLS(restless leg syndrome), insomnia, high blood pressure, high cholestrol (462), sleep apnea(have to use a c-pap) and my doctor things I have Lupus will find out next week.  I was in a car accident in 2001 and have had 4 suregeries on my back and I get injections every few months, I have actually had the limit of all injections for this year actually.  My L5 s1 is where my back is hurt.

I can understand where Debbie is coming from because I used to be this thin mom who got out and did every thing for her children and with them.  There are no more hiking weekends, or riding bikes, playing ball etc with my kids. The only exercise I can do is walk for about 10 minutes at atime or swim, When I am swimming I enjoy it because taht is when I have NO pain.  The *^%$#&((^)&&%$  who hit me was a 21 year drunk and robbed my children of their mother and me of my life as I used to know it.  My children help me as much as possible but I dont want them to have to do everything for me, I am embrassed when I go out sometimes because I have to use a cane to help me, I feel that at the age of 36 weak because of it.  I use to be a woman who could do everything for herself even work on my own vehicle and I enjoyed it.
