Our Children in Georgia WON! last night - Thank you!
I just wanted to let you know and THANK ALL of YOU!
Last night was the last day of Georgia's legislative session and our
children WON, against all the Special Interest Groups, who have "supposedly"
spoken and influenced Georgia laws in education for us; the people and their
children, for years.
We; the people and a handful of advocates started a campaign for a parent's
right to choose the appropriate educational placement for their child with
diffAbilities, if our public schools fail to provide a free appropriate
public education for their child.
Georgia's parents and advocates and some of you help us in our efforts to
speak for our most vulnerable children with diffAbilities and last night
SB10 - Special Education Scholarships are now a law in Georgia and parents
now have a choice for their children with diffAbilities!
I just want to thank those of you that signed the online Educate Georgia
Petition (BTW, it is still ongoing, since the petition is to stop another
rule in May, so if you haven't signed it - please do)
More importantly, some of you that did sign the petition contacted me
personally and also supported our efforts for the past 2 weeks, to make SB
10 a reality; giving parents the opportunity for "choice" and hope to our
most vulnerable children in Georgia.
I can't thank you enough, because for the first time in Georgia, those who
had the virtue to withstand the highest bidder and speak the truth for the
sake of the children - WON!
Those Special Interest Group, with all their political pressure and clout
were put on notice - We; the people WILL take our power and voices back, if
you don't speak the truth for the sake of our children, communities and
Never underestimate the power of a few committed people to change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.'
I'm sincerely grateful to those of you that went the extra mile after
signing the petition and became involved in another effort that had nothing
to do with the petition. Because of you, 200,000 children in Georgia now
have the choice of opportunities they never had before.
Because it's right...
"Education is another word for Freedom; a life filled with rising
expectations, dignity, responsibility and an opportunity to live the
