I have joined this group to be helped and maybe help others.I suffer from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) brought on by my service in Vietnam. This has been a battle for 35 years.Finally, I received the correct diagnosis about five years ago. I am PTSD mainfested by Bi-Polar Disorder. Since being put on Depekote ER and with 5 years of weekly intensive therapy sessions I am about 85% recovered.For the first time I do not suffer from the "Nightmares of War."Also my Panic Attacks are almost zero now.I would like to hear from other Bi-Polars and PTSD people.And especially ANY Veterans out there!Thanks, I am here to share and LEARN.Alan Maskelldosplus4@yahoo.com  [ send green star]  [ accepted]
 
Hello I'm knew/Question April 16, 2005 9:11 PM

I know I am depressed b/c I am over weght 224lbs. And trying to find out what kind of depression this is so I can tell my mental doc. When I go cloths shopping I look at 3x sizes and when looking at good cloths I have to walk away knowing i'll never fit into those cloths. And I don't like going to the doc's b/c thay always tells me you need to lose weght. I take pills for high blood/heartburn and only want to go to the doc for refils. I also have the following problem on 10/28/04 I had an ex-ray of my back and was told that I have DDD/OA and at times it is hard for me to walk and clim steps I live upper apt. and trying to find a lower appt. but it's so hard know in day's. So I take a pill called Hydrocodone/apap for the pain in my back witch is L5-S1 and know it is at my back of my neck. How I know is b/c my neck lately has been creacking and on days when getting up in the mornings my neck starts to hurt and stay behind my shoulder blade. I have never been in any kind of acct. in my life to have this problem. The only thing I can think of is doing to much work or lifting. But the funny thing is that I had this pain in the back since 1992 but was not as bad as it is today. Hi all,Though I don't think I suffer myself from any mental health problems, I've been coping with my mothers for my entire life... and I've just come to a point where I need support and encouragement not to give up on her. She's in another of her bad episodes currently, and I'm having to fight the urge to just walk away... which is sad because I am the ONLY one left who hasn't walked away yet. I guess I'm just feeling a bit over my head, not for the first time, and want to know that others out there have been through the things she goes through and come out the other end ok.I'm really hoping this time will be different for her, that this time something will work and stay working. Hi I'm lesliej Hello, I joined this list about 2 weeks ago, but am just now introducing myself. I joined about a dozen groups at the same time! so posting to all of them may take me a while. I live in Washington,DC and have been dealing with mental health problems for the last 12 years. Although in hindsight, I have been dealing with them all my life in my family. It has been a rollercoaster ride since the beginning, but I do want to share with you how it all began for me: I had the proverbial "mental breakdown" in 1993. I was working a job that demanded I spend 40-60 hours a week, once as many as 80 hours in one week. It was too much to deal with, but I could not get the company to hire an assistant for me. It got to the point that I dreaded going into work and then I started getting sick to my stomach every time I got near the building. (even now, I am not comfortable walking down that block) When it got to where I was spending time on my home phone at all hours of the day/night,I told them I could not work there any more without an assistant. They said "OK, we'll get someone to take over for you within two weeks". They ended up re-hiring the man who had the job before me, and making the employee that I wanted to make my assistant, his assistant. I just went home and went to bed. Where I stayed for several months. During those months the only connection I maintained with reality was a weekly excercise walk around the White House that I did with 2 girlfriends from my neighborhood. When they realized I was not leaving my apartment at any other times of the week, and didn't even bathe or get dressed on those days, one of them decided to make me get help. She called up a local clinic where she was getting therapy and did the initial phone interview for me, and got an appointment. Even though I knew of the appt. she knew it would be impossible for me to go on my own. She came to the door of my apt. on that morning, banging untill I let her in. She made me get up and get dressed and dragged me to the busstop. She didn't leave to go to work herself until she saw me go in the office door. This was a true friend and one I will always be grateful for. I have no doubt that if I had not gotten help at that time I would be dead now. The next 7 years was a really strange trip!! But today I am still unemployed, and live on a very low income from Social Security. I have been pretty stable for the last 2 years. I am a trained Peer Recovery Specialist. I have taken a couple leadership courses from the West Virginia Leadership Academy. I attended the "Alternatives" conference back in October in Phoenix AZ and met a lot of other activists in the "Consumer" Movement. I have joined 3 Consumer groups here in DC---One as a board member, and another as an activist, and the third we just started with the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, and are calling the DC-Consumer Leadership Forum. I consider myself an activist in the Mental Health Civil Rights Movement. But any day now I could get word that I will be doing a 3 month intership as a Peer Recovery Specialist. (yeah, Right, I have been hearing that since last May!). In the mean time I am just trying to do as much political work for the movement as I can, and dealing with my illness day by day. I try to stay focused on my Wellness Recovery Action Plan and take care of myself. This is a great tool! So that is where I started and where I am now. Hello, I am a new member of a sister c2c group and a new join to the YH groups. What a nice family of groups for the disabled. I hope to soon catch up on all the posts since I am home all the time unable to work. Off the hip I am curious about comments or updates regarding Medicare Part D refusal for coverage of medications Valium and Klonopin and similar meds and generics. I am unable to make sense of this decision especially after tragedy of 9/11 under this administration. Besides the fact government buildings where SSD reviews take place do not allow carry totes or backpacks have horrible parking. I am curious how required files for review find themselves up stairs to case workers if and when a disabled person finds their way through a maze of exterior stairs and dual level parking. Courthouses have inadequate h.c. access, too. I know, I missed a court date trying to get in. I received zero empathy about that issue. Maybe I am one exhausted person struggling to meet near impossible requirements having problems. Who knows? Thanks for all wc  [ send green star]  [ accepted]

Hi all. I work in Behavioral/Mental health as an inpatient counselor and have also been such as an outpatient caseworker. My theraputic approach is to partner with people, not to play the professional. I myself deal with personal challenges related to my childhood of being physically and emotionally abused. Schizophrenia, alcoholism & rage are familiar faces of the others in my family tree. I don't miss childhood at all. I hope I can both learn and provide learning. It's not too late to take back the day, by turning 360 degrees around, back to the evolution, dispelling the convolutions devolutionary direction; and getting back to the future, we'll only have if you do! Defend yourself by defending them, one for all, all for one! Remember the lessons of WWII, if you're not taking bullets, you're making them, etc.; I'm bleeding every moment, are you? My name is C.C. I am the mother of one 14 yr old son who has struggled his whole life mainly with ADHD and BiPolar. He is currently in a Level IV treatment and working his way home in the next couple months. he is doing wonderfully. I, myself, became physically disabled in 2003 and it has been some fight! i have Fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, neuropathy, BiPolar, ADD. Subject: Invitation to Join the Disability Caucus of the Green Party The Disability Caucus is an Identity Caucus of the United States Green Party. Once we are accredited, we will have the same status as state parties do within the Green Party (except that we can not cast a vote for our presidential nominee). There are several other Identity Caucuses, including Black, Latino, Women, and Lavender. Verified Members: Please join us by becoming a verified member aka a voting member. We need 100 verified members, spread out over at least 15 states, in order to be accredited as a Caucus. An injustice to any is an injustice to all, "we, the people...", can't allow it :) For e.g., the fundamental thing taught by Jesus was destruction and murder are of no profit or pleasure, something almost all supposed Christians are anti-thetically opposed to, as is your gov't; and a gleaning from Native American teaching, et al, all life are needed threads in the fabric of life. Put your shadow behind you, give the gift that keeps on giving, a hand to a sister and/or brother :) The more art is given, the more it is, as is life. Very cool site, I like it, even though I've only been on it for a couple days, and, unlike many others that are similar, this one's 'buzz' seems to be keeping it growing; which is necessary. Over the last month, 3 times all my work, about 2 hours each time, was completely hacked off this site; I reported it to admin.- they've not gotten back to me.
