I played role-playing games - mainly Dungeons and Dragons, and AD&D - for many years, but I haven't done so recently. I spent a lot of money and collected new and second hand older stuff, and now I have quite a bit... I don't think that modules, etc., are necessary to make an enjoyable game, but I thought they enhanced it, and I was greedy I think it is a great game... however, I am into other things these days, liek political activism to end poverty etc.. But I am keeping the RPG stuff that I have (like a dragon guarding a treasure hoard ) for a time, aiming to sell them, when and if they become valuable....
Oh... I thought the 2 "Dungeons and Dragons" movies of recent years were not much worth watching... and I reckon a film adaption of "Dragons of Autumn Twilight" (the original Dragonlance novel by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman) would have been far more enjoyable!
Anyway, may you all enjoy yourselves here! Game on!
thanks Simon for joining!.. I'm glad you did.. I agree with you ont he movies..and I like D&D as well, I've played a bit over the years.. my RP thing is White wolf.. Werewolf the Apocalypse and Vampire the Masquerade.. tho the old stuff..
I am not much intot he new vampire and werewolf, tis jsut to much of a hard system to learn and to re-learn tribes, and such..
I've been a RPer for over 12 years.. D&D, whitewolf, Magick.. and a few others, like Heroes Unlimited, now thats an old one!.. gosh I feel ancient..
Most of my years in RP have been spent as either a gamemaster or a storyteller for LARP (live action role-playing).. I lvoe the plots behind everything and the intrigue..
I havent played for a while. I started with friends and the old book & dice stuff, then had a very few of us who would go out and act in character for a day - quite hard trying to buy makeup and tights as a a second level paladin!!
I have done a little bit online but not much so I would be very interested to see what its like, with cool people
its very nice to see you here, I hope you have some fun and learn some stuff from other gamers!.. this is a RPG discussion.. not an actual RPG.. but none the less thank you for joining and feel free to ask questions!

Hiya everyone! I was the DM for tabletop Dungeons and Dragons for many years. Eventually I brought my game world to the net and ran a play by post forum for 8 years. I enjoyed it because I love collaborative writing and brainstorming story ideas with others. I'm a newbee here at Care2 and look forward to making new friends.
I didnt realize youd split this into topics, so I did an omnibus post hope you dont mind!
Im Sally Abravanel from Australia.
My RPG of choice is Tékumel: Empire of the Petal Throne, based on the world created by Prof MAR Barker but I also enjoy European/Medieval (D&D, Glorantha,Mythic Russia, WFRP and Sci-fi (Traveller settings. Im also intrigued by left-field settings like Rocket Ship Empires as well as White Wolfs games.
Currently Im seeking players for an established IRC (Internet Relay Chat) campaign of The Red Star, a game created by TS Luikart and Ian Sturrock and based on Christian Gossetts graphic novel of the same name. The setting is alt.C20/alt.USSR sorceresses with technomagic, giant gravity-defying skyships armed with plasma cannon, gating across continents wow! However the campaign Im running is much more modest in scope the players are members of the Fifth Hook, a group of detectives charged with investigating crimes that officially dont occur in the Republics of the Red Star. Their current task is to find a young girl, the daughter of a pair of highly-placed government officials she has been kidnapped, and it is up to the players to work out why and by whom, and to rescue her.
The campaign is a cross between Fringe and Law and Order with a touch of The Bill (for those of you familiar with this UK police/detective series). Its definitely a combat-light scenario with emphasis on sleuthing and investigation, roleplay and character interaction and development. Some mature content may be expected.
My game is also rules-light possession of/knowledge about the Setting Sourcebook (published by Green Ronin) or the original graphic novels on which the Sourcebook is based is useful but definitely NOT necessary.
The game is held every second Saturday at 8PM (US Eastern Time) that means currently 10AM Sunday Australian Eastern time. Games usually last about four hours. Potential applicants from the UK and Europe should remember that this is VERY LATE Saturday evening/EARLY Sunday morning for you.
