POM Ends Deadly Animal Tests! November 29, 2008 11:30 AM
VICTORY: POM Promises to End Deadly Animal Tests!
Last year, PETA discovered that POM was funding outrageous experiments on animals in order to make health claims about its products. It's hard to imagine why a company that makes pomegranate juice would be testing on animals, but what we learned was shocking. In one experiment, balloons were inflated into live rabbits to study erectile dysfunction! In another experiment, baby mice were suffocated to the point of brain damage and then had their heads cut off. Those are just a couple of the tests that POM was funding.
We immediately contacted POM, urging the company to abandon all tests using animals, but after being told by the company that it would continue to fund animal tests, we had no choice but to launch a full-fledged boycott campaign. After enduring just a few months of PETA's public education campaign about POM's deadly tests, POM has decided to stop funding and conducting animal tests.
In a letter to PETA, Matt Tupper, POM president and CEO, stated: "Neither POM Wonderful nor its related entities provide funding for ongoing animal testing on POM Juice (or POM Tea). Moreover, there are no plans to do so in the future."
This is a huge victory for animals who are being tortured and killed in laboratories, and it exposes just how ridiculous the vivisection industry is as a whole-torturing animals to promote fruit juice! With this announcement, POM joins other compassionate juice companies like Welch's, Naked, Frutzzo, Old Orchard, Lakewood, and many others that have provided written assurances to PETA affirming that they do not fund or conduct any experiments on animals.
Please thank POM for making the compassionate decision to end all animal tests and for showing that good health never has to come at the expense of animals' suffering in labs:

Pigs are as Smart as Dogs - Don't eat them! August 23, 2008 10:13 AM
Veterinarians consider pigs as smart as dogs. Imagine keeping a dog in a tight cage or crowded pen day after day with absolutely nothing to chew on, play with or otherwise occupy its mind. Americans would universally denounce that as inhumane. Extreme boredom is considered the main reason pigs in confinement are prone to biting one another's tails and engaging in other aggressive behavior.
The stress, crowding and contamination inside confinement buildings foster disease, especially respiratory illnesses. In addition to toxic fumes, bacteria, yeast and molds have been recorded in swine buildings at a level more than 1,000 times higher than in normal air. To prevent disease outbreaks (and to stimulate faster growth), the hog industry adds more than 10 million pounds of antibiotics to its feed, the Union of Concerned Scientists estimates. This mountain of drugs a staggering three times more than all antibiotics used to treat human illnesses is a grim yardstick of the wretchedness of these facilities.
There are other reasons that merely phasing out gestation crates does not go nearly far enough. Keeping animals in such barren environments is a serious deprivation. Pigs in nature are active, curious creatures that typically spend 10 hours a day foraging, rooting and roaming.
Don't forget the Animal Rescue Site! August 15, 2008 7:08 PM
The Animal Rescue Site desperately needs clickers! Please click daily
to help dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, etc. (And of course, click on
Care2's donate sites too!) You can also buy gifts for friends and
family, and some back-to-school things at the Animal Rescue store!
Proceeds benefit the animals, of course!
Check out these beauties! This litter of pups arrived in Arlington, VA this week. Three have been
adopted, and two of the brothers are still waiting for their forever
homes. The white puppy (who is not deaf) and his black and white
brother are still available. They can live happily with other dogs,
children, or cats. Australian Shepherds are highly intelligent and
energetic. These boys will need active families to keep them busy!
If you can't adopt, will you help with sponsorship till they find a home???

film is just a horror show and it needs to stop now I have put a lot of
time into this but there are just not enough signatures yet to make a
difference. You can do even more by 1) putting this message in your own group or crossposting in other Care2 or myspace groups.

This is pretty simple... Please tell ten friends to tell ten more today!
The Animal Rescue Site
is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet
their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and
neglected animals.
It takes less than a minute (How about 20 seconds) to go to their site and click on the purple box 'fund food for animals' for free. This doesn't cost you a thing. Their
corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate
food to abandoned/neglected animals in exchange for advertising.

ASIA – Horse fighting, a sport dating back 500 years, is still practiced in parts of China, Indonesia, South Korea and the Philippines.
The gruesome practice extorts the horses' natural instinct to fight for breeding rights - pitting two stallions against one another, both hoping to breed with a mare that's placed inside the fighting ring. After prodding by their owners and the sight of the mare, the stallions get extremely worked up. The mare is removed from the pen, and the stallions enter - their instincts kicking in.
They pummel one another with their front hooves and bite too. Bouts can last up to 30 minutes, before one animal goes down or runs away.
According to the Daily Mail, fights don't usually end in death, but horses are occasionally put down. The cultures responsible for this pseudo-sport find the matches exciting and owners take pride in their victorious stallions.
Government officials say it's a tough issue to tackle since it's so deeply ingrained in the cultures that celebrate it. Still, activists agree, this sport needs to end immediately.
To find out how you can help stop horse fighting, go to fund4horses.org. To make a difference now, write the American Ambassadors to China, Indonesia, the Phillipines and South Korea, go to americanambassadors.org.

SNARES: If you have not already done so please use the link below to contact your MSPs or, if you don’t live in Scotland,
the Scottish Minister responsible. This website tool means you can
contact politicians in seconds with little effort. However if you live
in a rural area or if you have had experiences of seeing animals caught
in snares why not add a sentence or two to the letter provided ? It is
important we show the politicians that this is not a townies versus
country hicks issue but a cruelty versus commonsense issue. Those who
use snares often argue that it is about keeping rabbit numbers down or
protecting free range poultry and sheep from foxes.
Rabbits
can be controlled (if really necessary) by using box traps, ferrets and
nets and .22 rifles. All these methods should result in a far quicker,
less terrifying death.
Foxes
eat still-born or dying lambs, afterbirth and the many casualty sheep
and lambs which die from bad weather or as a result of being neglected
by farmers. A healthy adult ewe will chase off a fox. Contrary to the nonsense put out by some pro blood sports enthusiasts foxes DO NOT hunt in packs. Wolves used to do that but people wiped them out in Britain centuries ago.
Poultry
(including free range birds) and reared “game” birds should be kept in
secure fox-free accommodation at night and protected by wire and
electric fences at all time s.
The
real force behind the campaign to keep snares are gamekeepers who want
to kill anything that might eat a pheasant or grouse chick or egg. They
want to upset the natural balance to produce more birds for paying
guests to blast with their shotguns. This is not a good enough reason
(could there ever be a good enough reason?) to allow animals to be
trapped, cut and strangled in primitive traps.
If
you have friends who might agree with us on this please send them a
copy of this e-mail and ask them to let the Scottish Parliament know
that they want a total ban on th e use of snares in Scotland

MO- Men Posing As Animal Control Officers Try to Steal Dogs
(KSDK) - A pair of men posing as animal control officers are trying to steal small dogs, officials in St. Charles County said.
An O'Fallon, Missouri
woman said a man tried to seize her grandson's puppy from her front
yard Thursday. The man said he had to take the dog because it was not
wearing a collar, the woman said.
The individual eventually took off with another man driving a white van.
Officials with the Humane Services for St. Charles County said they do not know what the intentions of the men were. But they said they are assuming the worst.
"They
could be taking animals to use them for medical research. Or to
breeders for breeding. Or they could be using bait dogs for training
pit bulls." Theresa Williams, the director of St. Charles County Humane Services said.
The two men used a white van with a red dog outline, similar to the one used by St. Charles County Animal Control, Williams said.
Williams said a few other residents reported seeing the van.
She
said legitimate animal control officers wear clearly marked uniforms
with a city or county emblem. They also carry and identification badge.
Vehicles are also identified in large print.
Miguel Smith, 5, is the owner of the puppy. He said he will keep the puppy indoors, to be on the safe side.
"If they took her, my heart would be broken in pieces. This is the only friend I have," he said.
Residents who have questions about the identity of an animal control officer in St. Charles County should call the Pet Adoption Center at (636) 949-7387

Justice for Mimi - Prosecute her Killer!
When
Antoine Draper sent his two year old pit bull, MiMi, to live with his
brother for a while, he said it was like parting with one of his kids.
"From a puppy I fed her with a bottle. From the time she was born,"
Draper said. Just days before Christmas, Antoine Draper received a
phone call that made him sick to his stomach - someone had set Mimi on
fire while she was giving birth to puppies. The dog was still burning
when Draper got there - and he knows who did it.
Mr. Draper
filed a police report and brought witnesses with him, but to this day,
Mimi's killer - his brother's ex-girlfriend - is still free. Mimi's remains are still in the yard.
We
are asking you to please arrest and charge the person responsible for
such a cruel and heartless act. Someone with the ability to commit such
a heinous act without thought or provocation is also a threat to humans.

Hearing how the company so carelessly continued testing on animals, some of whom died, broke my heart. I very much want to do something about this. I very much want to get the word out about this.
My own puppies, age 7 months and 10 months, were sickened by so-called "food" produced by this company. I am disgusted.
I come to you asking that you help spread my message. So many people have signed my petition and then e-mailed me saying they had no idea the company was testing on animals. I feel that it's vital that more people learn about this.
I am a realistic person. I understand that the chances of me effecting this business are slim to none. The purpose of my petition is simply to educate people of what's going on... it's important to get the word out.
Snow White's Animal Forum 3 December 04, 2006 5:56 PM
Welcome to Snow White's Animal Forum!
It
has been studied and noted that those who have been serial killers,
murders, rapists, and abusers of humans have started with mistreatment
and murder of animals. This is the start here. To abolish cruelty
toward animals and create stronger punishments for those who cross that
line is a foundation in which could lessen the impact on humans. Animals
are as priceless as jewels and they live, breath, and feel pain too.
Let's place all of the alerts, petitions, articles sites...etc here in
Snow White's Forum. Snow White loves all animals and represents the
companionship humans could have with them. Hugs, Ami
