Hi, thanks for the invite Pius. Interesting information given here.
I'm lucky. I live in a place without major earthquakes, volcanos, tornados, tsunamis, floods, droughts, or whatever. We only have airpollution and the promise of disaster by global warming.
I almost got struck by lightning once. I was on a holliday in south Germany on a mountain when a thunderstorm came up. The lightning was only a few feet away. This leaves you in awe of natural forces and it also gets you running inside.
Welcome Marc, Gary, & Launi! It's nice to have you here. Please make yourself at home and feel free to create topics and respond to posts.

Hey Sue and welcome! I'm so glad that you are here. Look over the site and tell me what you think.
Hi Renda,
Thanks for the invite. I have lots of friends and relatives horribly affected by Katrina and Rita - I know I was and I live in NY, but I still consider NOLA home. I went through Betsy and Camille, and I can tell you that was enough...(at least back then we still had a government who reacted to such things!!!)...my sister is a professional photographer and was so overwhelmed by the sites through NOLA she couldn't even take photos. (saltzmanphoto@comcast.net ; recently published in Southern Bride). I have another sister still living in a FEMA trailer in Pass Christian (MS) and another still living by some mircle on Grand Isle (LA) with her daughter! I was in the process of moving back to NOLA...and thanks to oil drilling and global warming (sinking land and rising water), my grandparent's back pasture outside Lafayette (LA), where they used to raise cattle and plant rice, became full of salt water from the Gulf of Mexico...I could go on and on...
at any rate, my computer seems to be fixed now!! and I should be back into the swing of things pretty soon. Looking forward to it!!!-debs

Glad to have you back and if you wouldn't mind, could you possibly post your stories and whatever links you have (&/or pictures) to the hurricane topic. I think that it would be good for other's to view them. Thank you so much!

Looks like an interesting group here and great topics. I will be posting my experience with my first hurricane later. While Hurricanes are not amusing, my first experience with Dennis was to say the least scary. At least to me but of course I have family and friends that say that was nothing.. Ya'll be the judge... Posting to come later in the week under hurricanes.
Thanks so much for inviting me! Looks like a great group...and I believe it will grow fast! Hope you get lots of members

Thanks for the invite Renda. I have lived with earthquakes and typhoons and am familiar with the destructive power of nature. Yet I love mother nature as I love mother earth. They are family - they nurture and sustain us. All they ask is respect. We show respect for them each time we care for the victims of their untamed power. I am with you in this group, Renda - believe me I am.

I read Mark G.'s reply and I can imagine how he felt. Because I live in germany (northrhine-westfalia) and I am very familliar to thunder and lightning. So I know how very noisy it is, to hear the thunder so very close.
Nevertheless, I am not afraid about lightnings, perhaps because I am an electrical engineer.
I hope my english skills are good enough to participate in the group!
Welcome all new comers and thank you so much for joining. Pius and I are not here to run this group alone. We would very much appreciate any of your stories, discussions, etc. under the posted topics and by all means feel free to start new topics as needed.
Note to Ross and Sampson- Thanks for dropping by. Please participate when time allows.
Note to Brendan and Friedhelm - Thank you both for your wonderful introductions. Brendan you are right about Mother Nature!!!! Would love to hear some of your stories about typhoons & quakes. Friedhelm - Your english is fine and we'd like to hear some stories about your storms there! I look forward to getting to know you better.
Thanks for the invite to this much needed group. I live in New Orleans, Louisiana and we lost everything we owned in Hurricane Katrina.
