Donna, Al Gore made the unpardonable sin in 2000 of running agaisnt Ralph Nader instead of running with him.  [ send green star]

Patriot Hero Aaron Russo Passes Away

Prison Planet
August 24, 2007

We were saddened to hear of the passing of activist, film maker, freedom fighter and all round maverick Aaron Russo today, who died today after a long battle with cancer at the age of 64.

Aaron will be remembered fondly for all his achievements, not least of which the excellent America: From Freedom to Fascism, his final movie which exposed the fraudulent basis of the IRS and the Federal Reserve.

Aaron was a real patriot who loved his country and risked his whole career to stand for the truth. He was an example to us all.

Aaron Russo was the Samuel Adams of our day, a stalwart defender of liberty, his passing is greatly mourned but his fiery spirit lives on in all of his great work and in his wife, his children and his film America From Freedom to Fascism.

Our deep condolences go out to Aaron’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Aaron Russo's film, America: Freedom To Fascism, was the call for me to look beneath the surface of absolutely everything and question it all. I will always be indebted to him for this awakening.

I knew something was wrong when after months of waiting, no email arrived telling me their next step. Aaron wanted to gather a certain number of signatures before going further and he was so dedicated that he kept his film running free on the internet and was more interested in getting the information out than he was in making money.

Who now will pick up the torch and lead the cause to shut down the Federal Reserves ? Who will be the star that shines in the darkness to lead the way to deep revolution ?

I will miss him so...and today I felt the loss as a terrible sorrow.

His battle ends as ours is just begining.

Peace to you dear Aaron.

Aaron Russo (1943-2007)

Early this year when Dr. Ron Paul announced he would form a presidential exploratory committee to test the waters for a possible run for president, Aaron Russo was one of the first people to call and offer support, encouragement and help.

I never met Aaron Russo in person, but talked with him several times by telephone.  His commitment to the freedom movement and his commitment to see Dr. Paul be elected our next president was unwavering; even while he was undergoing treatment for cancer.

Thank you Mr. Russo.

My condolences to his family and his friends.

Attended a memorial service for Aaron Russo, the film producer and libertarian activist, this afternoon at Hollywood's House of Blues. It was one of the "celebrating a life, not mourning a death" variety.

Rep. Ron Paul was there and said some words about Russo the freedom fighter, and Russo's pet causes of abolishing the IRS (got a big round of applause from this Hollywood crowd) and the Federal Reserve. (See Russo's conspiratorial documentary on the topic, America: From Freedom to Fascism, if you are curious.)

Interestingly, it seemed a given to Paul and his introducer that everyone knew who he was. He was introduced merely as "Ron Paul," not "Congressman Paul" or "presidential candidate Paul" and he referred within his speech to talking to Russo about his "decision to run" without saying what for. It may be that any friend of Aaron Russo's is presumed to be knowledgeable about this sort of politics; or it may be that the general run of Americans know more about Ron than I might have guessed at this point. (Or maybe half the 300 or so person crowd had no idea what was going on, but they sure seemed to.)

Paul's talk was part memorial tribute to Russo's passions and friendship, part stump speech of sorts (stressing the importance of this moment in time to strike a blow for the cause of liberty the way Russo would have wanted it--voting for Ron himself was an implied, if not explicitly spoken, way to do so). As soon as Paul's talk was over an 11-voice gospel choir with funky organ, bass, drum and guitar accompanyment took the stage for a triumphant "We Shall Overcome" with crowd singalong.

I'm guessing this was the first time this happened after one of Ron Paul's campaign talks--the choir was entertaining throughout the memorial--but I tell you, it shouldn't be the last.
