Thanks for the new laws, Canada! October 10, 2013 12:48 PM
Previously my hubby, who has a Canadian mother & American father, would have had to apply for Canadian citizenship as a dual citizen. We were put off by the rather lengthy procedure & fee involved. However, we just found out that he's now "automatically" a Canadian citizen as soon as he sends in a brief form & birth certificates to prove it!
We grew up in Michigan during the 1960s & '70s, so having the option to "run to Canada" if things get too bad in the US always seemed very desirable to us. Plus, hubby is a healthcare worker so we think he'd be able to get a job fairly easily. Yay!
